I had to go with PiP 'cause that was my halloween costume that one time

TOMBOT, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

I always confuse him with Judge Reinhold except Judge Reinhold looks like some hideous monster created by plastic surgery and botox now.

gr8080, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

My friend went out with a guy for a while, and one of her reasons (among many) for dumping him was, "He has James Spader hair."

molly mummenschanz, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel, Thursday, 14 June 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

jessie monster, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Will Randall: What do you do?
Laura: Why do you care?
Will Randall: I don't. I was just making polite conversation.
Laura: I'd rather not discuss what I do.
Will Randall: You know, I think I understand what you're like now. You're very beautiful and you think men are only interested in you because you're beautiful, but you want them to be interested in you because you're you. The problem is, aside from all that beauty, you're not very interesting. You're rude, you're hostile, you're sullen, you're withdrawn. I know you want someone to look past all that at the real person underneath but the only reason anyone would bother to look past all that is because you're beautful. Ironic, isn't it? In an odd way you're your own problem.
Laura: Sorry. Wrong line. I am not taken aback by your keen insight and suddenly challenged by you.

HI DERE, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Bear is the movie about the bear. My grandma had a poster from it in her basement.

jessie monster, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

(xpost) T'S LIKE THEY PREDICTED ILX INTERACTION 6 YEARS BEFORE IT HAPPENED

HI DERE, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

I am not taken aback by your keen insight and suddenly challenged by you.

Mr. Que, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

I have had that conversation (me as Laura).... wau

latebloomer, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

I actually really liked Stargate, up until the point that they actually step thru the stargate, when it all goes to shit

kingfish, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

girls people don't like it when I'm cryptic

Laurel, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

this list is missing the excellent Dream Lover

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

Also, my usual request to my hair person is "more feathery please"

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

So about your visit to New York....

Laurel, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

I'm only cryptic to girls.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 14 June 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

clearly the answer is less than zero.

sex, lies and videotape is possibly the worst movie ever

sunny successor, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

WOLF WOLF WOLF WOLF WOLF WOLF WOLF

HI DERE, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

sex, lies and videotape is possibly the worst movie ever

strange, I really liked it in high school when I first saw it, it had sex talk and was all indie. And then I saw it again a year or two ago and basically laughed at it the whole way, and turned it off before it was over because it was stinking up the joint.

kenan, Thursday, 14 June 2007 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for White Palace but it could have been Two days in the valley or Crash too. I do find him rather disturbing in Boston Legal but his late 80s to mid 90s vintage is totally hot.

leigh, Thursday, 14 June 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

He looks so like a young David Hemmings in this pic. Which means he'll end up looking like james Doohan in his old age.

http://www.kimsaid.com/archives/spader.jpg

Billy Dods, Thursday, 14 June 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

he's at his best when he looks his worst

this is true, e.g. Boston Legal. But old 'n' ugly spader really isn't Spader at all, so I'm glad BL is left out.

I vote SL&V because that is a master class on Playing A Crepe.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 14 June 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

you put caveats on the only two movies i want to vote for

2x

Jordan, Thursday, 14 June 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 14 June 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

this is true, e.g. Boston Legal. But old 'n' ugly spader really isn't Spader at all, so I'm glad BL is left out.

Oooh, but I fancy him in Boston Legal very very much, nonetheless.

Zora, Thursday, 14 June 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

It was hard to choose between Secretary and Crash, but Secretary got my vote.

rockapads, Friday, 15 June 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

i guess i voted less than zero altho i wouldve gone w/secretary for the gylnihalll perv factor but it says right in the poll not to do that

jhøshea, Friday, 15 June 2007 01:22 (eighteen years ago)

I think he's hot in The Practice/Boston Legal! I thought everyone on ILX hated James Spader! This thread pleases me.

Trayce, Friday, 15 June 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

Where is *Alien Hunter*?

Also, that episode of Boston Legal where he dresses up as Murphy Brown.

S-, Friday, 15 June 2007 02:43 (eighteen years ago)

MANNEQUIN

marmotwolof, Friday, 15 June 2007 02:45 (eighteen years ago)

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 15 June 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

Secretary. Obv.

SeekAltRoute, Friday, 15 June 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

Tape Store, Saturday, 16 June 2007 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

seriously you ppls is LAME

TOMBOT, Saturday, 16 June 2007 07:40 (eighteen years ago)

though I guess a vote for PiP is kind of a half-assed vote for LTZ so combine the two and that wins

TOMBOT, Saturday, 16 June 2007 07:41 (eighteen years ago)

How many times do I have to say I don't give a shit about Gyllenhagel? That vote is all Spader.

Laurel, Saturday, 16 June 2007 08:15 (eighteen years ago)

Hello people, Less Than Zero is a really bad film, what are you on about.

Tim F, Saturday, 16 June 2007 08:54 (eighteen years ago)

its great in its own way

jhøshea, Saturday, 16 June 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

i mean i guess i couldve vote for pip but that wouldve made me a girl so

jhøshea, Saturday, 16 June 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

Secretary = yay

SeekAltRoute, Sunday, 17 June 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

my vote was all Gyllenhagell, and thus correct

tremendoid, Sunday, 17 June 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

Too bad Storyville sucked. Maybe he just liked shooting in New Orleans.

Pete Scholtes, Sunday, 17 June 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Mrs Trifle was watching The Watcher the other night and later said that if James Spader asked her to marry her she would really have to think about it. And this was after watching The Watcher...

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

James Spader meets David Mamet.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

"James Spader rips into Mamet" would have been better.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

eight years pass...

i'm digging deep into this guy's filmography

i acquired about 70% of the movies he's been in

i watched crash on the weekend

tuff turf won in the other james spader poll (BEST OF THE REST OF JAMES SPADER'S RICH AND WORTHWHILE FILMOGRAPHY) but i haven't been able to get a hold of it unfortunately

papa poutine (∞), Monday, 12 February 2018 18:56 (seven years ago)

six years pass...

Watching Bad Influence for the first time since it came out. The whole way, I've been trying to remember why Greil Marcus included it in a "Real Life" column at the time; just a minute or so before the answer, I somehow remembered. Thought Spader's brother was played by a young Rainn Wilson. No--Wilson was probably a kid at the time. Spotted Donald Margolis, Jane's father, from Breaking Bad, though--John de Lancie--as Spader's boss.

Somewhat compelling trash.
