that ninja book is really great. i can't remember if picturebox, the publisher, was planning to finally put out his earlier 'maggots' comics. hopefully someone will after all this time.

i'd agree with that, though as you can probably tell my own tastes are pretty conservative.

oh cool -- nice cover image, too.

it looks like picturebox is putting out a yuichi yokoyama collection (which i think will be his fight comics and his public works comics, but maybe not his trainride comics), a CF book, and a reprint of Frank Santoro's Storeyville at the same time. Pretty rad.

Thank you for all these, PUSAP. I love the variety. Whenever I see a great painting I always think "my work needs to be more like THAT." Weak ego or something. But when I'm hit with a barrage like this, with so much variety, that voice shuts up, and I realize that my work just needs to be more like itself.

I have just been to the Asian Contemporary Art Fair. A lot of it was underwhelming (I have now seen all the Mao-meets-western-commercialism paintings I ever need to see), but here are some artists I liked.

Yeah, Rob's stuff is amazing! He's really prolific, too, there's a ton of great material on his flickr and his website, xip.nu.

Here's three things of his I grabbed really quickly:

Whew, I thought the link at the top was about Roni Horn dying which would have been too bad, only because the woman looks and sounds exactly like Michael Rappaport. A lot of her art is interesting too.

Here's who is probably my favourite artist of the last 30 years: Felix Gonzales Torres

This and the other threads have gotten so long and unwieldy that Jeff and I have decided to just do a blog.

It'll be the same kind of thing, more or less daily, so if anyone reads this thread, please join us at the official roni horn memorial blog:

a really obvious one, but I just finally saw that Cai Guo-Qiang show at Guggenheim and it was really great. I wound up liking the cars and the wolves but there was also a lot of other really interesting work that was more subtle and unexpected after seeing all the ads with the cars and wolves.

Hurting 2, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

Nice to see that Maureen Gallace got given props, definitely brilliant painter, in my estimation, probably the most interesting one there is right now.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 27 May 2008 10:44 (seventeen years ago)

She's probably my favorite discovery from this thread.
