I love you. Let's take it to the next level.

corn is so hot right now

get bent, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 06:28 (eighteen years ago)

Dear corn on the cob,

I love you, but it really hurt my feelings when you got drunk and embarrassed me in front of my friends. I know you were just trying to be funny, but when you made fun of my overbite it made me look like a fool. Still you're so sweet....

Jesse, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

lol corn is hot right now

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 06:53 (eighteen years ago)

hahahaha

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 06:53 (eighteen years ago)

nothing wrong with corn like off the cob, either. but that's just different.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 06:57 (eighteen years ago)

the problem with corn ON the cob is that it gets all stuck in yr teeth! but if it is already off the cob, it doesn't! weird!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I have had none this summer, I should rectify and with garlic butter too.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

We've got corn growing in our garden, and wait patiently...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

I was at this street festival all weekend and damn if the roasted corn on the cob booth didn't make a killing, $3/ear!!

Jordan, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I envy you, fresh from the stalk is the best way.I have happy memories of scrumping corn cycling round france.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

my cats also love corn on the cob!

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

I have never know of the right words for the little forks that you stick in corn cobs; from now on I shall know them as KOB-KNOBS.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

> my cats also love corn on the cob!

I have a theory about this. Do they love all corn on the cob, or buttered corn on the cob only?

gabbneb, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

what's your theory, Oilyrags?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

cornbread on the cob

Jordan, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

My theory is cats like butter, not so much corn.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

how are you going to test this theory of yours?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not. One of my housemates is allergic to cats.

elotes

http://www.epicurious.com/images/gourmet/features/streetfood/austin.jpg

yay

I suspect it's largely the butter but many piggy cats will eat anything.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

you could try putting some butter on your dick.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

xxxpost: but it might just try to eat it anyway because it's conditioned to expect buttery goodness!

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

I've never had elotes. It seems like it would be tasty, but big jars of mayo sitting in the sun all day on the vendors' carts make me somewhat nervous.

jaymc, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

bernard does "xxxpost" mean what i want it to mean?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

that's about twice as much entendre as I'm comfortable with

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

you have to get it form a "reputable" cart

carne asada, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

I know a cat who eats tomatoes.

Jordan, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

cats don't eat tomatoes unless you put them on your tits first, IIRC.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

oh whoops I guess mine was really only an xxpost in the first place

bernard snowy, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

I had a grilled corn on the cob at a festival this weekend and then corn OFF the cob with garlic powder last night. I also enjoy the game corn-hole.

Further mysteries: if corn is so grand and universally acclaimed, how come corny is bad?

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Well, what about "cheesy"? Surely cheese is one of the world's greatest creations.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

Indeed, and at the intersection of corn and cheese there exists chips with queso.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

and cats luv both.

kingfish, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

corn (1) Look up corn at Dictionary.com
"grain," O.E. corn, from P.Gmc. *kurnam "small seed," from PIE base *ger- "wear away" (O.Slav. zruno "grain," Skt. jr- "to wear down," L. granum). The sense of the O.E. word was "grain with the seed still in" rather than a particular plant. Locally understood to denote the leading crop of a district. Restricted to corn on the cob in America (originally Indian corn, but the adjective was dropped), usually wheat in England, oats in Scotland and Ireland, while korn means "rye" in parts of Germany. Introduced to China by 1550, it thrived where rice did not grow well and was a significant factor in the 18th century population boom there. Cornflakes first recorded 1907. Corned beef so called for the "corns" or grains of salt with which it is preserved. Cornrows as a hair style is first recorded 1971. Corny "old-fashioned" is Amer.Eng. 1932, originally, "something appealing to country folk."
