Please nobody vote for Monkey Dust. That shit is terrible.

emil.y, Friday, 10 August 2007 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

King of the Hill all the way

milo z, Friday, 10 August 2007 00:16 (eighteen years ago)

Dom Passantino, Friday, 10 August 2007 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

I hate all Adult Swim except Boondocks. King of Hill all the way.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

I really dig ATHF a lot. I didn't really like the latest season that much though (sept Hand Banana was impossibly hilarious ["can you back that up, I mean that ass" etc])

The last few seasons of South Park have been great I reckon.

W4LTER, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:12 (eighteen years ago)

uhh ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE!!

Stevie D, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

The PJs - Eddie, I once thought this was as low as you could sink. Man, was I wrong.

Oilyrags, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

Monkey Dust slowly got worse and worse.

W4LTER, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

dr. katz, home movies, spongebob, brak blah blah blah.

tremendoid, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

i mean if drawn together is gonna make the cut, there really is no excuse

tremendoid, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

not that i would put metalocalypse above simpsons or south park but it's way funnier than most of that stuff

i saw an episode of dr katz the other day and did not lol, tho i liked it as a kid. i bet the critic is still pretty funny?

bell_labs, Friday, 10 August 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

i mean if drawn together is gonna make the cut, there really is no excuse

Yeah that show is terrible. They show it all the time in Aus.

I agree that a lot of these shows aren't funny. and that it's not comprehensive..

W4LTER, Friday, 10 August 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

no worries i like loads of unfunny comedy cartoons (flinstones, jetsons, flinstone kids, groovy ghoulies, i could watch stuff like that all day). these are just the wrong ones!

tremendoid, Friday, 10 August 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

south park is so bad now too

chaki, Friday, 10 August 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

No Katz, no credibility.

C0L1N B..., Friday, 10 August 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

yuh, I regret not putting Katz in
;_;

And South Park's still funny. Funnier than new Simpons anyway.

W4LTER, Friday, 10 August 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

simps*

W4LTER, Friday, 10 August 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

I really like Monkey Dust. Besides, there's no Metalocalypse!

Morley Timmons, Friday, 10 August 2007 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

Where's POLICE FISH? Where's CAPITOL CRITTERS?

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 05:19 (eighteen years ago)

since the simpsons are now more than 50% shit, futurama.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Friday, 10 August 2007 05:22 (eighteen years ago)

harvey birdman A++++++ would watch many times

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 10 August 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

wtf is a stripperella?

elmo argonaut, Friday, 10 August 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Started watching Harvey Birdman season 3 last night, it is great

Jordan, Friday, 10 August 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Drawn Together is funnier than anything on Adult Swim

Dom Passantino, Friday, 10 August 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

i'm no cap'n save-a-swim, but the jokes on drawn together are worse than carlos mencia's

elmo argonaut, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

The Simpsons had the longest run of being funnier than everything else (7 years - Seasons 2-8). There is other stuff on here that is as funny, if not funnier (King of the Hill, Futurama, 1-and-a-half seasons of Ren & Stimpy, South Park's best is scattered across several seasons), but none of those sustained it for as long.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

The Simpsons are like the Beatles. Could any of these shows happened without them?

Ms Misery, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

King of the Hill MIGHT have happened without the Simpsons. A lot of it was in place in Beavis and Butthead. Speaking of which:

WHAT ABOUT BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD?!?

Oilyrags, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

What about Sifl & Olly??

Ms Misery, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

Oh also, I doubt Groening would've ever got the green light for KOH without success of the Simpsons.

Ms Misery, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

Judge, you mean. And yeah, it's impossible to say. But B&B were huge, and that might have been enough.

Oilyrags, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

oh, duh. Well likewise in terms of Simpsons paving way for KOH. I doubt Beavis & Butthead did much to help his cause there.

Ms Misery, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

B&B being hugely successful probly helped Mike Judge more than some cartoon he had nothing to do with.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

I AM NOT ARGUING ABOUT THE SIMPSONS ON THE INTERNET

n/a, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

My point is that B&B was nowhere near mainstream enough for major networks. An already successful prime time animated show surely greased the wheels more than something on MTV.

Ms Misery, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

drawn together is terrible!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 10 August 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

that's definitely true - there was a reason King of the Hill was originally scheduled (and debuted) in the same timeblock as the Simpsons

x-post

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not going to say that The Simpson's success had nothing to do with KOTH getting on the air. That would be idiotic. I'm just saying that there were plenty of reasons for Fox to want a piece of Mike Judge in 1996, and not all of them live in Springfield.

Oilyrags, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

actual winner = TEX AVERY

blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Monkey Dust slowly got worse and worse.

WRONG. Series 3 >>> Series 1 >>> Series 2.

I actually voted for South Park, btw. It's about as funny as all the other shows on this list combined.

Just got offed, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

i'm surprised our American friends have actually seen Monkey Dust even in this torrentin' age

it actually is the best animated show to come from Britain not aimed at kids but that's the most damnedest faint praise one can give about anything for sure.

blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

^never heard of it

Jordan, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

quite right!

blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE'S THE MR HELL SHOW

blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

earlier this decade there was actually an effort put forward to get adult-orientated British animated series going including Stressed Eric, something on Channel 4 I forget involving Gina Yashere. These were so bad that TV channels abandoned the idea pretty quickly although somehow more expensive but equally poor sitcoms and sketch shows continue to be made.

awesome i really was resigning myself to the previous statement

blueski, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

DAN PERRY LIKES DRAWN TOGETHER

chaki, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

They tried to launch Stressed Eric in the U.S. and its quick death was largely ignored.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

DAN PERRY LIKES DRAWN TOGETHER

to be fair he also liked Crash

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

Drawn Together isn't very good, but to be fair, it's not as bad as you think it's going to be. There's a few chuckles to be had.

kenan, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

THE MAXX

milo z, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

not hilarious?

Jordan, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

The Maxx is extra not hilarious, however, in quite a different way than say American Dad is.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

i basically hate adult swim and everything it stands for, tho space ghost was genius. it's been diminishing stoner bullshit returns since. i voted 'simpsons' to bug the haters, whatever, i still live in a world where nothing post season 10 exists, it's not that hard!

the critic was funnier than futurama, controversy etc.

ghost rider, Friday, 10 August 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

where are:
anamaniacs
rocky and bullwinkle

ghost rider, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

oh shit does anyone remember freakazoid, that shit was awesome

ghost rider, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I thought The Flea (I think is what it's called) was funny. But aside from all the puns & fun-eez I liked it bcz I could relate so much to Arthur.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

I think Class of 3000 is consistently funny in a classic way.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

YES the flea

earthworm jim

ghost rider, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

the tick?

elmo argonaut, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait where is HOME MOVIES?

Home Movies is great and should not be lumped in with the other Adult Swim stuff (most of which have had their moments, but HM doesn't really share the same kind of humor).

Jordan, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

i've always disliked the simpsons. no one ever believes me when i say this.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 10 August 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

haha right tick

ghost rider, Friday, 10 August 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

I absolutely can't stand the standard Adult Swim humor template (ie all the ones w/ex-Hanna Barberra characters and esp. Aqua Teen). Which makes me look like Snob Grande. As my fiancé said, "Not all comedy can be about a handsome man falling down." But would that it were.

Abbott, Friday, 10 August 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

A good episode of SP revives your faith in the power of good satire like you wouldn't believe. Today's fix was "Stanley's Cup", a perfection of the sports-movie satire they'd attempted with "BASEketball".

Just got offed, Friday, 10 August 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

I absolutely can't stand the standard Adult Swim humor template... "Not all comedy can be about a handsome man falling down."

haha - I kinda liked the Kirby ripoff one with the various ethnic stereotypes but yeah, the mileage on that stuff is pretty limited.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 August 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, Bob and Margaret was horrible!

Morley Timmons, Friday, 10 August 2007 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

It was better than every other British animated sitcom tho

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:10 (eighteen years ago)

well, with Monkey Dust I have exhausted my knowledge of British animated comedy (and Bob and Margaret, which the Comedy Channel ran into the ground). I'm going with what I know :)

Morley Timmons, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

To qualify: I still like Monkey Dust a lot, but with growing age and maturity I can see more and more clearly that many of the jokes are fairly crass, and wear thin with disappointing ease.

Just got offed, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

The classically trained actor will always be funny.

W4LTER, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:34 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could have voted for the Venture Brothers...

Viceroy, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

xpost: Oh yes. Oh yes. Oh yes.

Just got offed, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

The moment he appears on the call-girl hotline is profoundly funny no matter how you spin it.

Just got offed, Saturday, 11 August 2007 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

What about Sifl & Olly??

it's not animated? also, not funny.

that (also unfunny) monkey dust show runs on sundance channel in the US at odd times.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 11 August 2007 03:15 (eighteen years ago)

sifl and olly is funny as fuck but yeah no animation i can remember. wonder showzen should squeak in with those killer care bear things.

tremendoid, Saturday, 11 August 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

since the simpsons are now more than 50% shit, futurama.

^^ this.

I love the Simpsons and it's still my favorite of all but I get more LOL mileage out of Futurama.

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 11 August 2007 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 16 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

"Drawn Together" has become less about being funny and more about being gross. Which is okay but not really conducive to it winning polls about shows that are funny.

Is nobody here gonna rep for THE OBLONGS???????? Because that shit was shit.

HI DERE, Thursday, 16 August 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

The character designs on the Oblongs reminded me a bit of Carol Lay's Story Minute stuff, which was nice. But not sufficient to redeem it or anything.

Oilyrags, Friday, 17 August 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah the Oblongs, that was horseshit. I like Will Ferrell a little bit less now that I remember that show.

And, again, I apologise for the omissions in theees poll!!

W4LTER, Friday, 17 August 2007 00:06 (eighteen years ago)

re british animated sitcoms: wasn't there a couple of viz cartoons? billy the fish? and non viz crapston villas and some others late on channel 4.

acrobat, Friday, 17 August 2007 00:48 (eighteen years ago)

It's Aqua Teen.

I liked Monkey Dust - the only decent Brit animation?

Where are Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff though? May be kids things but, especially in the case of Dexter, make me laugh more than anything.

" *incoherent low frequency mumbling* "

the sir weeze, Friday, 17 August 2007 02:28 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno. Freakazoid reeks of them taking what worked on Animaniacs and trying _WAY_ too hard.

kingfish, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

Ghost rider has some great memormry cells there. Freakazoid and earthworm jim were fantastic. While we're tossing around Kids cartoons; why is 'Foster's home for imaginary friends' not in this poll?

Ed, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:15 (eighteen years ago)

because it's fucking shit.

W4LTER, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:18 (eighteen years ago)

Man, I thought Animaniacs was guilty of trying way too hard. This does not stop me from singing the Chicken Boo theme.

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

W4LTER, you have no soul.

Ed, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

Nine of the top ten are consistently funny. The other one is a catch-all "WAH MY FAVE WASN'T INCLUDED" category that would also include THE OBLONGS so therefore doesn't count because srsly, fuck THE OBLONGS.

THE CRITIC deserved higher placing.
