I hate all Adult Swim except Boondocks. King of Hill all the way.

I really dig ATHF a lot. I didn't really like the latest season that much though (sept Hand Banana was impossibly hilarious ["can you back that up, I mean that ass" etc])

The last few seasons of South Park have been great I reckon.

I agree that a lot of these shows aren't funny. and that it's not comprehensive..

no worries i like loads of unfunny comedy cartoons (flinstones, jetsons, flinstone kids, groovy ghoulies, i could watch stuff like that all day). these are just the wrong ones!

Drawn Together is funnier than anything on Adult Swim

The Simpsons had the longest run of being funnier than everything else (7 years - Seasons 2-8). There is other stuff on here that is as funny, if not funnier (King of the Hill, Futurama, 1-and-a-half seasons of Ren & Stimpy, South Park's best is scattered across several seasons), but none of those sustained it for as long.

The Simpsons are like the Beatles. Could any of these shows happened without them?

King of the Hill MIGHT have happened without the Simpsons. A lot of it was in place in Beavis and Butthead. Speaking of which:

oh, duh. Well likewise in terms of Simpsons paving way for KOH. I doubt Beavis & Butthead did much to help his cause there.

B&B being hugely successful probly helped Mike Judge more than some cartoon he had nothing to do with.

My point is that B&B was nowhere near mainstream enough for major networks. An already successful prime time animated show surely greased the wheels more than something on MTV.

I'm not going to say that The Simpson's success had nothing to do with KOTH getting on the air. That would be idiotic. I'm just saying that there were plenty of reasons for Fox to want a piece of Mike Judge in 1996, and not all of them live in Springfield.

WHERE'S THE MR HELL SHOW

earlier this decade there was actually an effort put forward to get adult-orientated British animated series going including Stressed Eric, something on Channel 4 I forget involving Gina Yashere. These were so bad that TV channels abandoned the idea pretty quickly although somehow more expensive but equally poor sitcoms and sketch shows continue to be made.

Home Movies is great and should not be lumped in with the other Adult Swim stuff (most of which have had their moments, but HM doesn't really share the same kind of humor).

I absolutely can't stand the standard Adult Swim humor template (ie all the ones w/ex-Hanna Barberra characters and esp. Aqua Teen). Which makes me look like Snob Grande. As my fiancé said, "Not all comedy can be about a handsome man falling down." But would that it were.

A good episode of SP revives your faith in the power of good satire like you wouldn't believe. Today's fix was "Stanley's Cup", a perfection of the sports-movie satire they'd attempted with "BASEketball".

well, with Monkey Dust I have exhausted my knowledge of British animated comedy (and Bob and Margaret, which the Comedy Channel ran into the ground). I'm going with what I know :)

To qualify: I still like Monkey Dust a lot, but with growing age and maturity I can see more and more clearly that many of the jokes are fairly crass, and wear thin with disappointing ease.

The classically trained actor will always be funny.

The character designs on the Oblongs reminded me a bit of Carol Lay's Story Minute stuff, which was nice. But not sufficient to redeem it or anything.

I like all the top 5 except ATHF, which I hate grandly, and you know all the standards critiques against the Simpsons. Sad KotH got so few vites tho. That show is gold.

Nine of the top ten are consistently funny. The other one is a catch-all "WAH MY FAVE WASN'T INCLUDED" category that would also include THE OBLONGS so therefore doesn't count because srsly, fuck THE OBLONGS.
