Some of these are completely new to me.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

no gay "i prefer to use frank's" answers because i prefer others in general too but fuk u this is about tabasco.

i picked green!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I was about to post what I use instead but I shall refrain. Next time I'm in a restaurant (only time I use Tabasco) I'll try the green.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

i have about 40 various bottles of hot sauce in my house. original tabasco basically sucks in the grand scheme of hot sauces but it is useful for a couple of things and also in a pinch.

xpost christ wtf

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

gotta be the original, though the habanero does intrigue me.

I like the idea of setting a world record by cooking the world's largest mess of scrambled eggs, then lightly seasoning them with a gallon of tabasco.

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

Someone gave me Tabasco soy sauce recently.

Jordan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

Gotta be original really. ALthough there are many better hot sauces out there, cf. Encona.

Ed, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

i like how the chipotle label is all singed like oohwee this sauce right heres on fire

but i think i like green the best

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

I want that ketchup.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

i really like that heinz "kick'rz" ketchup :x

sleep, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

I like it too :(

Jordan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

I'm all about the habenero at the moment, it's great in omelettes for a little extra kick.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

i don't actually eat food without putting hot sauce on it. like how nabisco is gay for salt, i am gay for hot sauce. i would go through one of those gallons in 2 weeks u_u

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

I like Tabasco, esp. the Chipotle one and the Habanero. But this stuff is the best (at least for tangy spicy bottled condiments, not spicy stuff in general):

Mark Clemente, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

habanero or chipotle are the only acceptable answers people

all other options are as they say "weak sauce"

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, you'd just end up with 40 gallon jugs of different hot sauces in your house.

Ed, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

beartraps

Ed, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

Someone send my some Crystal pls, I'm out.

Jordan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

I like that GIANT COCK up there /\ it looks tasty.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

i don't actually eat food without putting hot sauce on it.

Almost everything I eat is topped with either red pepper flakes or very hot salsa. I don't really like the flavor of Tabasco and other hot sauces though. There are a couple of non-Tabascos that I do employ with greens though.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

I actually really like the chipotle tabasco. Never had the habanero or the sweet & spicy. The other two are just okay.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

the green is relatively mild, I use it in guacamole "by request"

what's the sweet & spicy like? the brown color looks gross

m coleman, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like original. Tough choice between green and chipotle, will probably go with green.

n/a, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

*refrains from re-igniting guacamole wars*

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

"the brown color looks gross"

The brown color is the chipotle. It's basically the color of A1 (but a little thinner obv.)

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

had chipotle for the first time the other day, it gets my vote

river wolf, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

I like that GIANT COCK up there /\ it looks tasty.

yea that cock is HOT STUFF

Mark Clemente, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

(voted original, never had chipotle)

Jordan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

i like the green one because it tastes green if that makes sense. it's not v spicy though so i have to use a half bottle at a time.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

i eat the green nearly every day. it's good.

other than that and the red, never had any of these.

gff, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

it does taste green!

gff, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

It's base is probably tomatillo rather than tomato, no?

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

i'd love to go the tabasco island

gff, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i mean does anyone reaaaally even like tabasco

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

it is subpar fo sure

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

wait...none of them are tomato based afaik

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah it's just peppers and vinegar, I think.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i mean does anyone reaaaally even like tabasco

Not really. It's too boring for me.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

The brown color is the chipotle

whew ok i like chipotle salsa etc which is brownish come to think abt it. i was afraid S&S tabasco was sweetened w/chocolate like mole in a bottle or something...anyway original gets my (uninformed) vote.

I think tha green is jalapeno?

m coleman, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

it doesnt taste that good

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

i like their labels tho. and their island.

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

packaging overall: A

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

Those big jugs of hot sauce are wrong. Hot sauce should come in tiny bottles, because you're like "WAU it must be really spicy and you must not need to use very much and that's why it's in a tiny bottle." Big bottles imply you're going to need to use like a cup of the stuff at a time.

n/a, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

xpost I think you do need to use a cup at a time with most Tabasco.

N/A, nobody likes a thread Nazi.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i mean does anyone reaaaally even like tabasco

well... I mean... yeah, I do. It's literally nothing but red pepper, salt, and vinegar, but that's it's charm. It's good on so many things, because it's not really as much a flavor as a flavor enhancer.

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't know about that island thing at all! Very cool - is it like some kind of natural thing in the middle of the swamp or is it completely artificial?

StanM, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

I think the vinegar is key to why this is U&K for greens.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

well in general heat is a flavor enhancer. but the original tabasco does have its own distinct flavor. i mean youve got your ingredients, but then theres waht you do w/them. xp

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

cooking with tabasco is a fine way to use it

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

i have to use cupfuls of any hot sauce, so i'm not holding relative mildness against tabasco personally. and yeah, jhosh correct, what on earth are you talking about re: not having a flavor?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

there is also a nb thred about hot sauces

river wolf, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

i mean youve got your ingredients, but then theres waht you do w/them.

SAGE

Much of ILx is not Noize. Also unlike all the links n/a posted, this is a POLL. about one type of sauce.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

well, original tabasco has a flavor in the way salt has a flavor, of course, but Tabasco doesn't have the complex flavor of, like, Sriracha, which I'm speculating is why people find it boring. But I think it's supposed to be exactly what it is, and no more, and it's classic and I like it.

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

Green basically tastes like jalapeno vinegar, but it's still my favorite for some reason.

dan m, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

because jalapeno vinegar is a delicious idea

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

Also there is another ketchup made by Tabasco:

dan m, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

well, you can talk about whatever you like, it's a free message board, but it is kind of dickish to keep butting into a conversation specifically about which of these five things is the best to keep pointing out that you don't like any of those five things. we get it.

also that ketchup is in an awesome bottle!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

garlic!! i have a lot of affection for green, second favorite, bc i associate it with jazzing up crappy papa john's pizza in college but i also sort of burned out on it after four years of that jazz. original recipe is gross

A B C, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

ally, do you think you might have an uh under-performing palate? a friend of mine was just speculating abt this. but she puts hot sauce, lime and tons salt on everything. thats 3 flavor enhancers right there. i mean she could just be mexican or bhutanese but she's not.

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

The habanero is super-hot. Maybe i'm a pussy. I'll go with original.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

Habanero is indeed the hottest pepper except for that one in Nepal that can't be exported.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

its possible to make a habanero sauce thats not that hot

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

But that defeats the purpose!

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

it has great flavor too

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

I've probably missed this due to the blinding hotness of all habanero-related things I've had.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

oh its so smoky and good

jhøshea, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

I think Jess, FB, and I should go into business marketing a Nipsy Russell flavor to tabasco.

John Justen, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

Garlic...I went through a large bottle in a day and half, sprinkling it on fresh, crusty bread. Habanero is good too, but in hot sauce-deprived Ireland I have to take whatever I can get.

Old Rottenhat, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

Green all the way. I haven't tried the garlic. If it's as good as ABC and Rottenhat seem to think, I'll head out to the grocery store later and pick some up. However, I think that going through an entire bottle in a day in a half might lead to more than just a rotten hat, if you catch my drift. Yikes!

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Habanero is too much for the wuss known as Magill.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

the chipotle one is very very good.

get bent, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

my sister introduced me to the chipotle one. i'm normally skeptical of chipotle but it's great.

though not better than green!

bell_labs, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

sorry, off-topic but just came across this:

http://www.shoppinglouisiana.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/Caj-Inj-trio.gif

sanskrit, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

I like the chipotle one specifically because it's fairly mild and mellow -- you can actually spread it on like a heavy sauce, which is useful if you're eating something bland and want saucy coverage, not just a few drops of zing.

Also good for dumping on POACHED EGGS, nomnomnom.

nabisco, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

tobasco sauce

No, it was grozart who did.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

The hottest pepper in the world comes from Eastern India, and is, in Scovilles, about twice as hot as the hottest habanero. And it is very hard to get outside of the immediate region, much less the country.

As for Tabasco, I dig on the green. The chipotle is pretty good, too, but I like Tapatio for my chipotle-style hot sauce.

You live in Mississippi, spend a lot of time in New Orleans, then move to Northern Mexico, all the while cooking and having a crazy, hot pepper cultivating uncle, you develop a taste for these things.

B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

bell_labs, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

adam, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

hot hot hot

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)

Original. Too vinegary for some uses, but otherwise, a great all-purpose condiment. Hot sauce people don't seem to respect it, which is sad. Why I respect it: peppers, vinegar and salt. That's the entire ingredient list.

Bob Standard, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:04 (eighteen years ago)

The hottest pepper in the world comes from Eastern India, and is, in Scovilles, about twice as hot as the hottest habanero.

wiki says it's more... 350,000 scovilles for the hottest habanero, vs. over a million for the Naga Jolokia

kenan, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)

DAMN!

My recall of the disparity was obv. effected by my consuming a Guatemalan Insanity Pepper.

homemade sauce is the best.... we made some habanero and mango hot sauce at the weekend, and it's awesome...

we have about 130 chile plants on our rooftop and we're overrun with the things.. Just tasted our first tabasco chile of the season, and it's much hotter than i expected...

having said that, Tabasco sauce is too vinegary and watery for my taste..

I never got past substitute [peanut butter + garlic + sri-racha] for packet dust. With maybe some green onions. Cheese + spinach = evolution (the good kind).

Bob Standard, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah see that does sound good with the garlic. The Spinach is ready in no time so it is ideal. With the cheese, you have to soak your pot RIGHT AWAY. Otherwise, your house will begin to smell like fungus (doesn't come off).

humansuit, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

With some ketchup, lime juice & bean sprouts, above = phad thai.
