in the video tyra claims that she is trying to find girls who aren't pretty in an expected way. she wants them to have a more off-beat look & hopes that people will say "WOW" when they see their photos.

I don't understand what people want from this show. I mean, do you really expect Tyra to find the NEXT BIG SUPERMODEL? Those girls are scooped up by modeling agencies when they're still pre-teens. This show gives girls a chance and some of them actually become pretty successful.

This shit should be called America's Next Top Extra In a Chile's Commercial. None of the winner's have been successful as high fashion models, just as reality TV stars. Eva is easily the most successful, but she's not an Agyness Dynn or Freja Beja Erikson. Not even a Coco Rocha.

There's more to fashion than Balenciaga runways. Quite a lot of these girls have become successful in their own way.

No, they're not Feja Beja or Lara Stone or Daria Werbowy or Sasha Papopvarova or whatever, but like.. MOST working models never get to that level. That's my point.

Plus, the show is entertaining as hell so who cares.

Yes, I know this show is an example of the more "commercial" perspective of the industry. I don't expect much of anything from it, but It hasn't been watchable since Janice, Nole and his little dog left.

It's not even good junk food TV anymore cause Twiggy's staleness sucks the life right out of the judging panel. It's all her fault.

They're exploiting it even more than I expected. Geesh. I really don't "get" Heather, maybe with a makeover she'll be better but as of now.. she's just there for TV IMO. The other girls were being BRUTAL: "She's on a 4 second delay."; "Those type of people get really clingy", etc. It's kind of sad but I can't help but laugh...

The photoshoot was actually really great... Lisa took the best photo IMO, but pretty much everyone was great. How gorgeous is Ambreal?

And the NO SMOKING thing is so self-righteous and so Tyra, I love it. Jenah going through withdrawal and gaining like 15 lbs. is going to make for some amazing TV.

lisa and saleisha are beautiful, obviously, but heather to me is absolutely uniquely gorgeous. she could be quirky supermodel material a la mcmenamy, tennant, coco rocha, erin connor... i thought that marvita had that quality as well.

I get what you're saying but I don't really SEE it. Like I said, maybe a makeover will help.. but she looks looks weird to me, not model-weird. It's not like, say, Shandi or those twins where you see the obvious quirky-pretty thing. Maybe it's her lack of self-confidence, because when I look at someone like Coco Rocha even though she's strange looking she totally OWNS it.

Victoria is much better than Heather in terms of the WEIRDLY GORGEOUS thing IMO. Her picture this week was fantastic.

I knew someone would say that. Eva wasn't really "the bitch", she was bitchy in casting but she had that breakthrough/breakdown w/ Tyra and then was she relatively normal/nice.

Rewatching that cycle shows that Ann was going psycho over not being able to take a decent picture rather than Eva being an unreasonable psycho bitch. I mean, she apologized to Norelle alomst immediately and Norelle was cool with her, so why should Ann go on this crusade on Norelle's behalf?

Victoria doesn't look like a model but she takes fascinating-looking pictures; her climbing pic was astounding precisely because she didn't actually look like a typical model in it. (Conversely, Heather, Jenah and Lisa looked astounding because they DID look like models.)

A general weave question, Lauren: the natural hair underneath still grows, but is the way that the weavologists (lol) binds that hair slow its growth? Does it mean they have to pop the hood every once in a while to do some maintenance?

hmm... not sure if growth slows or by how much. as far as i know weaves are removed every couple of months or so, because of the natural hair growth and because they start to look really nasty.

This is the first one I've watched this cycle. Lisa's great, but I wonder if she'll go the Joanie route: win the challenges, look unbeatable, and get nosed at the end.

my bf got SO angry about that. i agree; they basically set her up to fail. not sure what they were trying to accomplish by casting a girl who isn't big enough to be a plus size model but is still much too big by today's insane industry standards to be a "regular" model. i hope tyra felt great about her nebulous contribution to "diversity" when sarah was standing there sobbing after elimination.

Not that I dislike her, but how did Ambreal avoid being eliminated? Was it just because the judges were distracted by the Sarah stuff? Chantal should never have been a finalist in the first place, personality-free blonde (aside from her clowning on Bianca (that one time)).

Unless Bianca kills someone (e.g. Heather), she's got a free pass to the final four because at this point, Ambreal and Saleisha are cannon fodder.

I didn't like Sarah before this episode -- her comfort zone was the hunched-in shoulders, and she made too many wtf faces like the rock-climbing one -- but her elimination was whaaaack, she was the hott in the video.

chantal, ugh. every episode you get a clip of her saying how well she's done, how naturally talented she is, etc, and then a clip of jay manuel or the photographer or whomever saying what a dud she was.

Tyra's favoritism for Saleisha is so annoying and transparent, it couldn't be more obvious that she is going to win this cycle even though she hasn't even taken ONE great picture. EVERY SINGLE TIME Tyra and Saleisha interact there is just this... <i>weirdness</i>, like they have some deal going on that Saleisha is going to win this.. and whenever the other judges bring up Saleisha during deliberation Tyra always says/does something shifty... Someone (maybe Rich from fourfour?) should edit together all of the Tyra/Saleisha weirdness from this cycle.. there has been A LOT of it.

Well, firstly -- I enjoy wanting to murder people, so the fact that the show is so contemptible makes it somewhat intriguing. I refuse to watch bullshit like "Crowned" and the Tia Tequila stuff, but something about Top Model works for me (although they're swiftly running out of ideas, I'd say). Also, being that NONE of the previous winners have gone onto fame/glory (with the arguable exception of the one who married Peter Brady), it all seems like somewhat of a big fuckin' sham, no?

I saw Jaslene on 8th Street a few months ago. She has a crappy profile (not that mine's anything to shout about, mind you).

i know. my v. mild-mannered bf goes beserk at least once an episode. he's developed a great jaslene impersonation, though.

the "jenah's got a bad attitude" arc that developed really made me angry. she seemed intelligent (comparatively, at least), hard-working, motivated, and more self-assured than most of the other girls. have any of the other seasons made it so clear that if you don't kiss tyra's ass, subscribe to her brand of destructive psychobabble, and act like a wounded bird then you're out of there?

Saleisha is a beautiful woman who will be a fine model, or at least as fine a model as anyone else who has won.

Chantal is adorable and insufferable, and will be just fine, plus she needs to be humbled at something sometime in her life.

Jenna was hampered by a crap makeover but I still think her so-called magically-delicious photos are being overrated here, as are her snaggle-teeth (Leee).

And anyone complaining about how unfair any result on this show is needs to realize that the girl who wins is ALWAYS the girl that Tyra wants to win. It's a show about Tyra Banks, and, as such, is awesome.

Oh hogwash. We have watched all the seasons this year and this season did not have any less prettiness than some of those middle seasons, ugh.

And Saleisha is a much better choice for #1 than say Adrienne or some of the other winners. I'm sorry but for all the times when someone this year said that Saleisha had that "girl next door" look -- WHERE THE EFF DO THESE PEOPLE LIVE AND WHY DID I NOT GROW UP THERE?

omg lauren otmx11--0-00 on Jenahs being teh most stable one we should totally watch this stupid show together the Jenah smear campaign had me FUMING, and when Tyra was insisting on making her recount a sob story while crying as some sort of therapeutic epiphany was total emotional blackmail, and what made it more idiotic than usual was just how lazy and blatant Tyra was being about it.

I thought Danielle's and Joanie's dental "problems" were adorable, but every time Jenah opened her mouth, I thought, "Damn, girl, keep those things hidden!" The girl is not particularly attractive.

ugh this was the absolute worst finale in the history of the show. i basically tuned out after jenahlimination and focused on my christmas cookie baking. actually, not just the worst finale, the worst season ever. nothing really interesting happened. the final two should have been heather and jenah - who cares if they are not cover girls, the winners never do much for cover girl anyway and i resent that all next cycle will be filled with saleisha's "life" as a "cover girl" segments.

Is Top Model a Scam?
That’s what everyone has been asking me lately because of the last season. I didn’t watch it, but I came across the finale and watched it the other week. I guess the winner of the show not only has modeled before (Wendy’s commercials, Tyra Banks Show runway model) but that she also had a personal relationship with Tyra from being in her T-zone camp. According to my contract with Top Model, all of these things would keep you from even coming on the show, let alone win it.

I agree with the majority in saying that this is not fair. When I did watch the show, I didn’t think that they chose the girl who could actually model…but then I remembered that they are 9 seasons into this show and have yet to be successful in making a real “Top Model”. I would have picked the other girl based only on that I think she would work more. It’s Tyra’s show, and she can obviously do whatever she wants.

I love to compete. If I had been one of the other contestants, I would be crying foul everywhere I went. I am really surprised at how unfair that season seems. So I guess now real models are going to be allowed on the show? That should make things interesting.

I think that if all these rumors of the winner being tied in the industry and having a prior relationship with Tyra is true, that the title should be given to the runner up. I know Tyra is an honest person. I have been assured by many that Tyra isn’t unfair. Seeing how she isn’t, I know she will do the right thing in this situation. Heck, maybe after she is done righting this wrong, she could hint at the agency she placed me in to PAY me for the work I did and won through her show? Been trying to get that check since 2003. ; )”
