Ed, we clearly need to get one of these:
http://www.echolog.de/img/pranksters.jpg
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)
Also, Ed, I have your jacket to give back to you. It STINKS. Thank god I did not need to use it. ;-)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)
"Age and Guile beats Youth and a bad haircut!"
― Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)
You know it's a bad sign when you are discussing DDBs with yr girlfriends and going "he's actually a reasonable age, he's like, 30!"
(This was the hottie from Mainline we were talking about, not the foetus S got off with... and may have accidentally split up with his girlfriend. oops!)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)
Oh god, that jacket is hanging across the room, and I can still smell it.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)
OK, my posters just arrived. They are *GORGEOUS*. But they are now totally useless. Sigh.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)
New thread new name
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)
I wish you would sell'em, Kate. I want one in our studygaming room.
― nathalie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)
How strange. I'm still signed into ILM as Herman.
ilx.wh3rd on ILE and ilx.p3r on ILM solves that little mystery.
I think i'll have 2 different identities until next time I get signed out then
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)
Happy b-day to your gran, Kerr!
I am selling my posters, Nath! I've got to figure out how to get a paypal or else use Sonic Cathedral's account or something. I'm gonna sell them for £5 mail order.
two people have just emailed me off MySpace wanting to know how to get one - and I just noticed that the Asteroid No.4 just cheekily stuck it up on their page, too, ha! So I guess there is some demand for them. I gave the proof I had to Rob Campanella last night, as he asked for it.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:27 (eighteen years ago)
Hi guys,
I always find it easier to post at the start of these threads, cos one missed day and I'm completely lost. How is everyone? I am off to the theatre tonight to see a play with SHANE RITCHIE in it, which will be fun. The things I do for my job.
― Mark C, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:36 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry to go all The Lex, but who is Shane Ritchie?
Blimey, lots of people off the interweb want posters, I've had several orders already. How do I shot paypal?
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)
Does this title mean I can't post any more?
who is Shane Ritchie?
http://www.hootie16.freeserve.co.uk/shanebio.htm
He's a terrible terrible comic, who then went on to act in Eastenders, now thinks he's a proper actor, and is appearing in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Which is THE most inappropriate casting I've ever heard.
― emil.y, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:01 (eighteen years ago)
don't forget his version of I'm Your Man. Or the Daz Doorstep Challenge.
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:06 (eighteen years ago)
You can post, Emil.y we just can't trust you, ha ha.
OK, that's more than I ever wanted to know about this Ritchie character.
I've been looking through all the Dream Machine photos on MySpace. What a load of drunken and drugged up fules! Ha ha.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:10 (eighteen years ago)
I really really really want to see his film "Shoreditch"
― Tom D., Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)
When I watches Eastenders I quite liked his character. Hated him before that though. Don't watch it anymore. I gave up on the soaps a few years ago. Even aussie ones.
Did anyone d/l the SAHB stuff? Tom D will rep for it i'm sure!
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)
OK, I've just had a seven steps madness moment. Dean knows this woman Flower, in LA, who is best mates with Rachel, the former keyboardist of ver Lollies. I KNEW BJM WORLD IS TOO SMALL AND YOU ALWAYS RUN INTO THE SAME PEOPLE, EVEN TEN YEARS LATER.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)
I have never heard the lollies.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)
you have missed out.
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:29 (eighteen years ago)
Neither have I. How does one go about hearing them?
― anatol_merklich, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)
You don't. I have destroyed all copies of all songs on a giant pyre in the middle of Stonehenge at midnight of the last solstice.
I will send you some Shimura Curves, though, Kerr. Maybe. BUT ONLY IF YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY GIVE ME CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)
Oh well, I'd have read answers to that question with mild scepticism anyway -- the last time I asked it was of Dr C, asking how to obtain that single they released. Was pointed to an webshop, duly ordered and after some days received a 3 CD set entitled THE GREAT INDIE COMEBACK VOL. 2! :o
― anatol_merklich, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)
Eh, what? I don't understand. I have a load of Lollies 7"s in my cupboard if anyone wants to buy one. But you really don't need to. The mini-album is still the best but I've no idea where that is.
Argh, I signed up for the Plan B messageboard under my krautrock name, and very clearly freaking Bumlove doesn't know it's me, and so is retreading the old boring indie = good, mainstream = bad crap and blaming it on "marketing" again.
It is so hard not to just answer him with YOU ARE AN IDIOT in 24 point purple letters. I refuse to get into a battle of the wits with an unarmed man.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)
Kate, where can I see the ones you are selling? Could I just send you some money???
― nathalie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)
Wait, what do you want to buy? Posters? 7"s? I'm confused! Email me. Yes, you can always just send me some money, people just keep telling me that it's easier to use paypal.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:50 (eighteen years ago)
I have one Lollies 7", but it is mine and I am keeping it. You can all come round to my house and listen to it if you like.
I would like to have mp3s of some Shimuras stuff, I've listened a couple of times on myspace but their player is quite annoying.
― emil.y, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)
Paypal is quite easy, but they charge. It's comparable to how much shops have to pay credcard companies for the facility. Naturally, Cheques/PO's are less costly, but Paypal has the benefit of being easy for buyers to 'impulse' buy stuff.
― Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, and don't forget about "sticky and brown" on the ILXVol3!
yeah, myspace sucks x-posts
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)
Alright, alright, I'll wrap up the rough mixes of the Shimuras album and cookie it. Maybe. I still have to figure out if I'm ready to let go of it yet or not.
I tried setting up a paypal account before, but it would never let me do it. I suppose I could try with a different email address, but I'm just suspicious of the whole thing now.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, I need lunch.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:58 (eighteen years ago)
Everyone should listen to SAHB instead!
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)
Would've loved to see Alex Harvey. I don't fancy going to see the SAHB that tours now with an ex shamen guy on vocals. hehe.
yay for shimura curves cookies!
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)
Tom I don't suppose you would've been old enough to see the SAHB would you?
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)
I keep thinking you are saying SHB, which is a very, very old crush indeed.
Discovery of last night: when there is no cigarette smoke to cover up the smell, some DDBs STINK. There comes a point where they stop smelling nice and just start smelling "FOR GODS SAKE TAKE A BATH!" like you might have to delouse them.
Not Dean, though, he had just washed his hair and was looking very fluffy, like a little chickadee. I kept hugging him because he was so soft and fluffy. I think he was too stoned to take it the wrong way. Some boys, you don't actually want to sleep with them, you just want to cuddle them like a stuffed animal. He's a bit too boney for that, really, but I like when his hair is soft and fluffy.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)
I downloaded SAHB! I won't get chance to listen to it til next week now though.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)
I have got to stop saying these kinds of things. No wonder people think I'm insane. Sigh. I've just had carrot cake, it's making my mind go funny.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)
I have just made some tea. Mmmmm, tea, this will help counteract the effects of the carrot cake. I'm so lucky, my send-me-off-into-the-stratosphear druX0rs are perfectly legal. tea and carrot cake, and i'm on the moon. Mmmm, the moon....
We haven't had a DDB for the day yet, have we? Here is today's DDTeapot.

― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, the Asteroid No. 4, that's gonna make me feel less hyper and less drugged, YEAH. Bad choice. and by that I mean GOOD CHOICE. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah yeah yeah la la laa la.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)
BT can fuck right off.
― G00blar, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)
BT as in phone BT?
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)
This is why I don't have a landline.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)
Yep. Fuckers.
― G00blar, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)
I don't have a landline either.
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, neither do I. EVEN THOUGH I SORTED IT OUT LAST FCKING WEEK. IT WAS DONE. AND NOW, NO FCKING PHONE WORKY.
― G00blar, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)
(Sorry.)
― G00blar, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)
'SOK. I'm bouncing around to the Asteroid No.4 so nothing can bring me down. Oh yeah. (They are the campfire DDBs from the other thread.)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)
OK, it's nap time. I have got to keep going or I won't make it out tonight. More tea, or a nap under my desk? Forgot about the bad, bad carrot cake comedown.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)
I am not going to make it through the afternoon. Someone please suggest something to wake me up or I'm not going to make it to Sande's gig tonight.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
Listen to SAHB! (or look at more DDB's)
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)
I have run out of DDBs to look at. And I don't want to listen to SAHB, I don't like the idea of them. I am listening to the Cush at the moment. Or would be if I wasn't getting wound up by Bumlove on another forum. Step away from the internet... step away from the internet. Quick someone post a picture of a DDB.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1176/1250687986_7f0fe63927.jpg
Oh, much better. Dean's hair is like the ultimate stress reducing toy. I just think about it and go all "aaaahhh, fluffy bunnies, kittens, life is good."
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)
That's like those pictures that play with perspective!
THE DRUMMER IS SINGING! But NO He can't be!
― Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)
That's Ricky from the BJM. I think the Koolaids were the only band the whole weekend that he *didn't* sing with. I do like the clever perspective, though.
But mainly I just look at the pretty guitars. Oh yeah, and the hair.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
Ha ha, a new online friend just totally demolished Bumlove in two paragraphs. Love!
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

― Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)
Whoa, that's not an original case. I hope it's not bootlegged. eBay is blocked at work, so I can't see how much it's going for (50p!?!? that's about as much as it's worth) but you might be able to get it here...

― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)
The other one is way better if you can find it - Bang! Bang! Bang! Lookout, Lookout, Lookout!
It's buy-it-now price is £2.99
There's no other info apart from all the terms and conditions of the seller etc.
― Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)
Huh. That's not a bad price, I just wonder who's selling it - the record company or what. Because we were never able to squeak any more copies of it out of them at any price! If there's cutouts going, I wants some.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Nope that's blocked as being eBay, too. Bah. I will never know. Well, not until 6pm tonight, anyway.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)
Enough about the past, though. More about the future! DDBs!
Damn, I've missed the post, haven't I? Those posters are not going to make it out today.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)
some post offices have a late collection between 6.30-7.30
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)
I'm too tired to talk to the post office. I'm assuming the nearest late delivery would be Mount Pleasant and I don't know that I have the energy to walk to City Thameslink. ANd man, I'd have to pick up supper on the way home. What should I eat? I don't fancy anything, really. But if I walk in Sainsburys without deciding what to eat, I'll end up just getting crap.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, that demo I got given last night isn't bad, actually. Some guy just came up to me as I got up from the door table, and was all "this is my kid's band, have a listen." I was all "yeah, right..." but it's not bad at all so far. Just weird; I would be totally embarrassed to have my dad give out demos at a club.
Even weirder to think that the original generation of shoegazers have kids old enough to be in shoegaze bands now... yikes.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)
OK, except it was all instrumental up until now, and now the guy has started singing, it's very obvious from the utterly dire lyrics that he's no more than about 16. Oh well.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)
YESSSSSS!!! Lydia from Sweet Jane got a picture of the tea cosy hat!
http://a620.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/104/l_051f83e0599364aeffd929f23f8565eb.jpg
I wish Aislinn Asteroid wasn't wearing that coat, so you could see her amazing paisley dresses. It's like a great "ladies of dronerock" pic. Since D insisted Dean looked like a little old lady with the tea cosy on his head. Especially when he was wearing that Indian dress thing. (I kid, I kid, I thought he looked totally hott, but D was doubtful.)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
Oh my god, best gig poster, ever - I wish I'd thought of this!

Sorry for the picture spamming, but I want to be able to look at them while MySpace is offlimits.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 30 August 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)
Good morning! I feel like I just left here. Wait, I did just leave here.
I have caused a real concernation in the office this morning because I saw AN MOUSE last night. A really big one, too.
How is everyone today? It's Friday, please don't let it be slow coz everyone's on holiday. Or busy coz they're covering for people on holiday.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)
Good morning Kate! Ooh an mouse in the office, what are you gonna do?
I'm SHOCKED to read upthread that you actually want to turn DDBs into CDBs! :0
― anatol_merklich, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)
They're calling in the exterminators. I think that's kind of awful, I'd prefer something humane, but mice in the office? You just can't have it. And it's not like you can get a cat.
I don't want them to be *too* clean. I just want them not to smell quite like tramps.
and I've been reading T.C. Lethbridge... I really really want to do something special for bonfire night this year. Not even just a party or a gig but I want to BURN THINGS. And maybe some megalith hunting.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)
Ah, and now for another round of being misunderstood on ILX today. Fantastic.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)
I'm settling in for the (3? 4? More???) hours on hold with bt. Of course I can't call from our landline, because the reason I'm calling is 'cause they've cut off our landline. I've been calling from my mobile, but our signal strength here is totally variable, and yesterday I was on hold for a half an hour before the phone cut out urrgh. So today I'm just gonna sit on skype and hope the internets don't cut out.
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)
Well, if you still have the internets, that's something at least?
God, this just reminds me why I don't have a landline. How can BT be so utterly useless and still stay in business? It amazes me.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)
I think it's time to start the morning tea drip.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)
It *is* amazing. Yesterday I did a google on the number I have to call, to see the hours it's open for, and I came across oodles and oodles of blog comments and msg board posts of people with horror stories of waiting for hours and hours just to speak to someone to sort out the simplest of problems.
(Someone just picked up! And has transferred me to "the correct department." So now I'm in another queue.)
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)
How can they get away with this kind of incompetence? It's kind of amazing.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)
My little brother's blog about his experience conducting a study of adolescents and depression in Beijing: it's pretty fascinating.
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, that is cool. And wow, yr whole family is that skinny! Bottle and sell yr genetics.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)
You should see my mom.
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)
She hasn't got a blog?
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)
Haha, I'm waiting for my mum to get a blog! She has a mailing list for her church, but I'm the blog is coming soon. (Except she would have to do it under a pseudonym or she wouldn't be able to hide her ranting from The Bishop.)
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)
She's just getting the hang of email; give her a couple years. xpost
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)
My mum's fighting a losing battle with mobile phones at the moment, so I think the blog is some time off
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)
Good lord, I'm downloading things and forgetting I've done it, I've got a backlog now! I'll listen to The Cush while I try to find them.
I'm waiting for my mum to discover MySpace, I think she'll get a Flickr soon since my bro got one. I'm surprised my dad doesn't have a MySpace, though!
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)
I've just asked him if he has one, and told him to get one if he doesn't.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)
Oh you fuckers. I was finally speaking to someone when the call cut off! I just gave you my mobile number! Why wouldn't you call me back! You were in the process of trying to fix my problem; what, the line goes down so you just move on to the next caller????!?!! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE???
― G00blar, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)
Oh extreme ironing!
"Hey it's not our fault the line was cut off! Um wait."
― anatol_merklich, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)
ARGH, the idiots! Utter idiots!
However, ha ha, I just got in trouble on MySpace, I slagged off Rog's questionable taste in shorts on my blog, and he was caught me out, ha ha, oops.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)
I guess Goobs must have got his phone sorted? He's not been back here complaining about it.
Sleeeeepy. I need tea. And then to meet with my boss.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)
...who is not at her desk at the appointed time!
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)
Hi dere, I have been pub. And I am listening to Yeti by Amon Duul II which I think might now be my favourite krautrock album.
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)
You are not supposed to be pubbing!
Found tea. Found boss. Had meeting. Short and to the point, the way I like them. Now I shall listen to the Ladbroke Grove comp!
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)
Naw I'm allowed now!! I even met Babs halfway through pubbing (she only gets 30 mins lunch, so I had a quick pint then went to meet her at 1:30, then decided I had time for another 1 afterwards, which turned into 2).
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)
Now I shall listen to the Ladbroke Grove comp!
Eh? Wozzon'at? Quintessence? Mighty Baby? Sam Gopal's Dream?
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)
All those things, plus the Pretty Things and Twink and Tomorrow and The Misunderstood and the Village and the like. (The like meaning, more of the same, not, like the band The Like.)
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)
A lot of it is stuff I know from Nuggets/Pebbles and Electric Sugarcube Flashbacks and the like, but nice to have it all in context.
Wow, I was just guessing an' all! Quintessence are terrible tho, surely?
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)
Haven't go there yet, I'm still enjoying Defecting Grey right now.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)
Can't go wrong there
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)
Just really makes me wanna go get all my Electric Sugarcube Flashbacks volumes whatever out of storage at my mum's house. But then again, I'd have to actually get a turntable then.

Kerr can probably supply you with the mp3s!
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)
You can pick up a 2nd hand turntable from Cash Converters for not much. I got a Technics one for £50 that did me fine for a few years until it fell on the floor and broke.
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)
£20 to get only Volume 3 on the net! Wow! And Chocolate Soup or whatever the other comp was called. Want! Or rather, want back! This record shop around the corner from where I worked went bust when I was about 19, and I picked up as many of them as I could afford. I didn't even know what half of them were, I just liked the covers.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)
I've got all 20 volumes of Rubble on my iPod, as we speak! It's mostly rubbish but nonetheless...
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)
Now I shall listen to the Ladbroke Grove comp!Eh? Wozzon'at? Quintessence? Mighty Baby? Sam Gopal's Dream?
Now, where is disc 2, that's what I want to know. </ingrate>
― Colonel Poo, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
I have trouble keeping up with all these cookies flying around
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, by the time they got from Nuggets down to Pebbles down to Rubble there wasn't much good left.
But the Electric Sugarcube Flashback comps were mostly UK freakbeat and that kind of cusp where the British Invasion stuff started to go all flower power, but before they turned into wibbling hippies. It's my absolute favourite era garage/psych.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:49 (eighteen years ago)
There's plenty of good stuff on Rubble, just not enough to fill 20 albums!
― Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)
I used to have that Sam Gopal album w/Lemmy on it. It was actually pretty OK for the most part.
― Pashmina, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)
I listened to Steely Dan all last night and now I fancy listening to SAHB again

Oh noooo... I am NOT going to start getting into the Bomp mail order site...

WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT
I remember the Sands track was really good - I think that was the Sky Pilot take-off track with the WWI mid air battle in the middle of the guitar solo... I think? It's all a bit hazy, my youth.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)
hello. am feeling like absolute arse. was the same yesterday :( is lucky as am v busy today so that helps but still keep having to run off and calm self down between bouts of phonecalls. nothing is the matter, which makes it even more irritating. i looked on biorhythms site and my emotional cycle was at rock bottom yesterday OMGZ BIORHYTHMS MUST BE TRUE! i think i just want a touch of someone else's skin. but i'm too scared to ask anyone for a hug in case it properly opens the floodgates. please, someone, make me laugh?

::explodes::
oh noes, Emsk, are you alright? If I were there I would give you big hugs, can I send you a virtual one? All I can do is post you silly 60s psych albums with bands with names like the East Wopping Boggit and Rodent Carpet Extermination Company.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 31 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
Oh christ I'm on the Bomp mail order emailing list and it makes me want to spend all the money I don't have every time I get one. They are super good at getting stuff out fast and cheap when I have ordered from them.

Um, should I tell you brown and sticky jokes for an hour to cheer you up?
Oh wait, we made up a new one for what's brown in Bradfield but I have forgotten what it is.

Or slugs. Don't know how you call these things. I know you guys explained it to me. I don't care. What's in a name, right? Urgh.

Yes, Mitya, my husband showed this trick and the slug poison must contain salt as well since a few burst open. Ek.
I feel like a dirty housewife. :-(

Pet fish died at the weekend. RIP wriggly, you were a good little panda garra. I was going to chuck it in the bin, but Adam wanted to bury it at the allotment. Poor little kid was heartbroken. It was a pretty cute little thing I must admit.
I'm bored out of my fucking mind and have a headache.
― Pashmina, Monday, 3 September 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Morning! Monthend, argh. Feeling very flustered. But MySpazz is busy at the mo, all these people reappearing out of the woodwork from the old BJM gang! Wow! I can't believe that people actually remember me. But they remember the drawings, and that I was the only person who actually called Anton on his bullshit, and argued with him and actually freaked him out instead of kissing his ass. Ah, the good old days. No, they were RUBBITCH, what am I talking about?
Oh no, Mitya - I couldn't live without Flickr. They can take MySpcae, but if they touch ILX, I'm gone... I was called by a headhunter this morning, but told them I had a job. Duh.
Slugs, argh! Dead fish, argh! New laptop, yay! Sure, I'll go see Monday Club, yay.
Anything else? I don't know. Confusement.
Where's Ailsa, is she still moving? Damn, it's dull with no one to argue with. ;-)

so, let's talk about work crushes, shall we?
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 12:29 (eighteen years ago)
You have a work crush now? I am oddly crushless. The last one was kind of ruined by too many pics of him with, like, teenage groupies. Oh well.
But on the other hand, who on earth are these 8 people who want to "fuk" me and why do they exist on the interweb, and not in real life?

1. Blonde girl who works in the next department over, who always kind of stands out in the crowd for me. Cute but sexy. Finally managed to talk to her a bit in an unobtrusive way last week. Don't know her well (and she's probably, um, 12 years younger than me). Her department is being downsized is likely to leave the company within the next few months, or be transferred elsewhere in the building. (Pretext for further chatting!) Let's call her, um, "Masha."
2. Woman who is I guess nominally a colleague, although she works on a different part of the floor. Although we have talked a bit over the last few months, I actually spent some extended time with her (albeit not alone) during our offsite and suddenly find myself test-imagining us cuddled on the couch reading the sunday paper after a really good post-coital brunch. Personality seems quite "sympathetic" to me, as they say here, although at this point I remain convinced that I absolutely fail to correspond to expectations of Russian women. Age parameter more appropriate, by my standards anyway (7 years). Downside 1: smokes like a chimney (previously a non-starter for me) Downside 2: best friends with head of dept, who... well, i can't say she dislikes me per se, but i am competition of sorts for her protege. so if things go wrong, it's not just potential work awkwardness to worry about, it's vengeful response of nominal boss' best girlfriend. Let's call her "Lena."
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)
What's wrong with going out with women yr own age?
I mean, seriously?
I don't mean to belittle yr crushes or anything, but this winds me up. I mean, we've been having goes at Ampy for going out with much younger men, and she says "I DO want to go out with someone my own age, but where are they? Men my age want to go out with 25 year olds."
So it seriously depresses me. :-(
(This may be a reaction to the teenage groupie type photos.)
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)
What's wrong with older blokes then?
― Mark G, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

1. Setting aside the issue of choice, I meet very, very few people.
2. I prefer not to date a) married women (and, to be completely honest, b) divorced/separated women looking for a father for their child(ren).) People here marry fairly young: if you're an unmarried 27yo F, you're already looked at with some degree of pity.
3. (Continuing the honest theme) In some ways, I'm one of those arrested development types - frankly I'd be concerned that even the older of the two wouldn't have the patience for my BS.
Unfortunately no one here has the same cultural reference points as me, which is actually quite a big issue. And actually, in this sense, someone younger makes more sense, because we would be more likely - all other things equal - to find common cultural ground.
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)
My work crush is absent today, I suspect he was at the connect festival, lucky bugger. He's five years younger than me.
― leigh, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)
I'm just gonna email Amp and tell her she's got the right idea, that she should just carry on dating younger men, in fact, does she have any 20 year olds that she can hook me up with?
Because if "I'm too immature to date women my own age" is an excuse for men, then it's fine for women, too.
Sorry, I'm not picking on you, specifically, Mitya, but you've hit a nerve today.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)
Record is out of stock, Gareth. What does it sound like?
That mp3 blog I mentioned to you in June, I forgot to email you about it. It's here:
http://vitaphone.blogspot.com/
― Pashmina, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)
if you're an unmarried 27yo F, you're already looked at with some degree of pity.
*sigh*. I was 30 yrs old. Now this is not frowned upon, but it's not that young anymore either. It all depends from what "social class" you are maybe? I personally couldn't be arsed to care (what otherts think). It completely freaks me out though, that I have people coming in YOUNGER THAN ME,sometimes by a DECADE, who sell their wedding bands. I feel much better cause at that age I wasn't divorced. :-) Nor married but I ignore that fact. ;-)
I used to (almost) exclusively date younger guys. Not by choice, it just happened that way. So I had this reflex that I expected every guy to be younger. haha To my husband:"Uh, I think I have to tell you something... I think I'm a bit older than you are." He practically roffled all the way outside the cafe. "No, I don't think so actually." hahaha
― nathalie, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)
I used to always go for significantly older men but after a very annoying episode with a 47 year old at the beginning of the year i'm done with oldsters.
When i was younger I might have expected to be settled down with a hubby and kids by my age (32) but i can't say being single bothers me that much except for the lack of sex and help with DIY.
― leigh, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)
i think its from the 70s, its got lots of clarinet and is quite rich sounding, itd be good for drinking
― Filey Camp, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)
How on earth do you think I feel, at my age? I actually found myself saying to my mum, without a hint of irony, as refering to myself as "post marriageable age". ARGH! What evil creature took over my mind and made me say that?
I don't even particularly want to get married any more - but, talking to a couple of girls at the festival who were the same age as me, a girl a bit older than me was saying "I don't want a boyfriend, but good lord, sometimes I just want to get *laid*" (she hooked up with a 22 year old at the festival.)
I mean, that's one of the things I like about that scene, that it's got a good proportion of people my age, it's not all kids. But the men the same age as us? Running around with 20 year olds.
I feel like a broken record. It's sad that I'm still able to beat myself up over this.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

xpost
No problem. Although I would note that the weighting on those three points was not at all equal. I really only mention the third because I'm neurotic after too many exchanges with younger women who clearly can't even seriously imagine me as a potential partner. Part of that may be maturity, and part of it is the very un-romantic approach most Russian/Muscovite women seem to have: considerations about what standard of living a boyfriend offers start a heck of a lot sooner than I've been raised to expect.
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)
never really understood the whole getting married thing
lack of sex and help with DIY.
I think dildos are meant to be used on your own. Sorry. ;-)
― nathalie, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)
I don't even know what I want any more. I keep joking that I want an indigant DDB to support, but honestly... what I want is equality, partnership, to be understood and accepted - that kind of thing just seems like it would be a lot easier to achieve with someone closer to mine own age, but maybe I'm expecting too much.
It's just frustrating, when you finally meet people who *are* what you think a suitable age or range of interests, and clearly you're not up to *their* standards.
I mean, any musician who doesn't have a girlfriend, honestly, it's because they don't want one, or there's something totally terribly wrong with them, such as a drug habit or being a wifebeater or something. Sour grapes, sour grapes. It doesn't help to look in the mirror when you're facing mockery from assholes.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
It's one of the best sites I've found, I've had hours of enjoyment from the music I've downloaded off it. The picks from it for me are the Jazz party soundtrack from Colleen Moore's "Why be Good", a test radio broadcast by Rose Marie, and "The Song of the Gold Diggers" from "Gold Diggers of Broadway". The guy's commentary is v v interesting as well, I see a whole bunch of mp3 blogs where the guys are kind of egotistical about the stuff they present, this guy isn't like that at all. Interwar baseball songs sounds curious, do you have a link for that one?
― Pashmina, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
Are you guys doing this deliberately?
Fuck it, I want to find a bonfire or something.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)
the same cultural and temporal reference points as myself
Kinda overrated IMO, and perhaps restrictive?
― Dr.C, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)
Well, you don;t get married and talk about Echo and the Bunnymen all night, right?
(Not that that's what Kate was saying)
― Mark G, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)
Who am I kidding? It's all sour grapes. The truth is, that I'm a truly unlovable person, and it doesn't matter what my standards are or aren't, because no one has ever, or will ever actually love me.
End of story, let's talk about T.C. Lethbridge instead. I want to go megalith hunting again soon.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)
Hmm, and here I was thinking we might talk about my crushes a bit :(
Kate, I haven't dated anyone for nearly 10 years.
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry, Mitya, feel free to talk about your crushes.
I'm just feeling tender at the moment. It's somehow OK to admit that you're feeling horny, but not OK to admit that you're feeling lonely.
I'll shut up now.

I wonder if my boss is actually going to bring me back chocolate. I did ask, but I was kind of joking, but then she said "dark or light?" and I was all "DARK PLEASE!!!!" so maybe I will get chockers.
Someone has just reminded me. It is autumn. This should make me happy. I was noticing on the train this morning, that all the trees were starting to be slightly different colours. And the mad vine thing that I really liked the leaves of has sprung out in all fuzzy white feelers! I like the chill in the air.

haha I must be psychic. Bowie is joint 1st this Week on the watercooler chart Nath's 3 accounts have got dEUS up there too..
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)
YES SHE GOT ME CHOCOLATE, LIFE IS GOOD.
I hate summer, so I'm kind of glad there wasn't much of one. Much happier to just fast forward to Autumn.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)
It's the last hour of the day before Monthend starts that drives me buggy... can't start anything else because I won't be able to finish it. And the minutes tick by SOOOO SLOOWWWLY until I can get to work.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)
You need cookies
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)
I am d/l Anton's cookies. I'm scared.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)
Argh, m4a files, argh.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)
OK, the first two songs I listened to were... uuhhh, wibbling rubbitch.
But the third one is really really interesting so far. Maybe because of the weird electronic wub/drone noise in the background. Or maybe because (so far) it's instrumental.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
Wait all afternoon for MySpace to come back on, and then it's boring when it does! Bah! All the action was at the w/e. Ah, but more orders for the Peaclock poster, which is cool.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
Why do people rip stuff in m4a?
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)
Isn't it default iTunes setting or something?
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)
yes, but it's easy to change. part of the "argument" though is that a 128kbps m4a is supposed to be higher quality but smaller in size than a 128kpbs mp3.
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)
I think the director has gone home... does that mean it's safe to eat SMELLY CURRY at my desk? What do you think? I'm starving, but don't want to take time out and go all the way over to the breakout area to eat or I'll be here all night.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)
who'll ever know?
― mitya, Monday, 3 September 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)
THEY WILL FIND OUT AND SHOUT AT ME SOMEHOW!!!
OK, the cleaner is their spy and will tell them. Before she left, my boss told me to get a taxi home to sidestep the tube issue, not realising that I get the overground anyway. I wonder if there will be cabs for love or money tonight...?
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)
Hey, can someone who knows how to do this sort of thing please make this the logo for the Watercooler Cookies list?

Ken C is the photoshop maestro
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
Nothing to do with photoshop - can't you take that image and make it the avatar or whatever for the cookies list?
I'd know how to do it in Yahoogroups, I just don't understand Googlegroups.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)
God, I am turning into my own mum. By "don't understand" I really mean "I cannot be bothered to learn how to do". Tsk tsk.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)
Ahh ok, it's done.
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)
When I went to use winzip, it came up saying my free trial had expired and I have to pay. Sod that. So unless someone else gives me a simple way to zip files now, then it will have to be rar files from now on.
― pfunkboy, Monday, 3 September 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)
What are you using to make rar files? WinRAR can make zips as well.
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 3 September 2007 22:12 (eighteen years ago)
Ahh ok. I just realised you can changed the settings from the default rar to zip. Thanks colonel poo!
I learn something new(that everyone else all knows) every day!

spoke to the IT people about flickr. according to their criteria (some system checks the site) it has the third and lowest security grade and therefore should be blocked unless you submit a specific business-related request to temporarily unblock the site.
kind of shocking, given that it's essentially yahoo. if they'd said, oh you have no reason to goof around on that site, i might've understood, but security!?
it's also clear that they are (now, if they weren't before) more actively monitoring what sites people visit and (systematically) blocking them (they took down facebook a couple of weeks ago).
the long and short being, if i disappear, one guess why... :(
― mitya, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 08:03 (eighteen years ago)
Can you get online at home yet?
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)
Morning all. I am actually at my desk today.

i didn't know you had a desk, ed.
kerr, yes, at home i am 100% online (i think). unfortunately there is probably not much more than an hour a day that i am at home and not a) in the bathroom or b) in bed.
― mitya, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)
Bah, the day my work discovers ILX, is the day I quit my job. They're more concerned about bandwidth rather than security, and ILX being fairly low (mostly text based) I think I'm OK. Also, I believe I'm the only person in the company that uses it. It's not like Facebook or Photobucket which everyone is on all the time.
Don't disappear, Mitya!
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)
Hi guys. Still no phone :( Must write final chapter by Sunday, not at all sure how that's going to happen.

Make a pot of esspresso. Yup, a whole pot. Sit down at work processor. Start drinking. Do not stop drinking espresso or typing until it is done.
None of my bandmates are returning my emails any more. I want a new band.
And I've just been stood up for dinner tonight. >:-(
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)
Hello hello. Am back, and very tired. Amazing weekend, though - the wedding was awesome, and we managed to take in a jaunt to St Ives, a gig at the Cube, museums and record shopping on our way home...
I'll be in yr new band, Kate.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)
Awesome, Emil.y! When can we get together and play?
Your weekend sounds like fun. I want to go St.Ives.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)
I want to go St.Ives
This is a riddle or sumthin', innit?
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)
And meet a man with 40 wives?
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)
I was trying to remember that riddle, but couldn't quite get it right. Is it wives, kids, sacks, cats? I was sure there was kittens somewhere, too. Also, I disagree with the assumption in end, as you don't have to be going the opposite way in order to meet someone in the road. Especially when they have so much stuff - you'd be walking much faster than them, so falling into step as you all head the same way is totally possible.
― emil.y, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:41 (eighteen years ago)
There were kittens, yes, argh, it's all about chaos theory or complexity or something, the exponential increase of smaller and smaller quanities. Like a sipieriskie (sp?) sponge.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)
Man, 7 Wives, 7 Sacks (49 sacks), 7 Cats (343), 7 Kits (2401)
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)
I'm still reeling from the lack of sleep at the weekend. Bastard third floor neighbours crashed in at 2am and then proceeded to play loud, bad music till gone 5. Banged on their door for 5 minutes but no answer. I rang the police (999) they told me to ring the council, but gave me the daytime number, tried to sleep rang the local station (wrong one as it happened), they said they would send round a car but then decided it was out of their area and gave me the number for my local police station, they said they couldn't deal with noise and to ring environmental health for which they gave me the out of hours number, but it had gone 4am by then and they had closed at 4. Sunday totally written off. It's not the first time either. I've written to their landlord about them. (Also I have found out where the main circuit breaker for their flat is).
Fucking coked up rich arseholes.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)
Sunday, flat 2 had a party, but they came and asked, and turned the music down at 11 which was fine and reasonable but after not having slept on Saturday was more than I needed.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)
3 slugs this morning. hoorah. hopefully none tomorrow?
― nathalie, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)
Bah, that sucks, Ed. Flick the circuit breaker if they ever try it again. That is the problem with council noise nuisance lines - only open during the day, when noise is mainly a problem at night.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:27 (eighteen years ago)
SO pissed off we only found it in the morning.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)
Lots of new people in my street and I don't like (the look of) any of them.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)
Now if only I could find the one for the bad neighbours round the back of my flat...
That said, they generally end at a reasonable hour. It's just irritating when I'm trying to do some recording.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)
Ugh, that's awful, Ed. I have the feeling we're the new bad neighbors in our building.
― G00blar, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)
Ha ha, are you lowering the tone of the neighbourhood?
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)
I feel invaded by suburbanites who look like james blunt or rugger buggers coming for their edgy london lifestyle.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)
We're trying! xpost
― G00blar, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)
Ah now, Ed, don't be classist!
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)
nothing personal, ed, but i think this whole desk thing isn't working for you at all. ;)
― mitya, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:55 (eighteen years ago)
I made cookies last night mmmmmmmm--and have eaten 5 since midnight. How much is too much?
― G00blar, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)
Nope, crankiness getting worse. Maybe cookies would help. I'm going to eat some curry.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)
Kick their asses, Ed.
― Pashmina, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)
goobs, a cookie every three hours is well within the legal limit, as far as i know. your stomach knows what best for you.
― mitya, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)
My stomach does not know what's best for my figure. :-(
I ate my curry. It was num. I put lots of ginger in, because, well, I just bought a new bag of ginger powder. Discovered that there is indeed a shop that sells cheap Indian spices in my hood, so I don't have to go to Tooting. Even though I really enjoy going to Tooting.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:25 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, I wish you hadn't put the idea of cookies in my head. Damn.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry. They aren't *that* good.
― G00blar, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:05 (eighteen years ago)
I am pre menstral and just find the idea of any kind of sugar, fat or chocolate utterly irresistable. More tea, I guess.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)
tea w/honey
― mitya, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)
Nah, I don't take sugar in my tea. My life is so much better and my brain so much calmer when I don't have sugars. (Yes, honey counts as a sugar.)
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)
OK, there's nothing else for it. I'm going to have to do the DREADED PIPELINE RECC!!!!
::hides under desk::
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)
pipeline???
http://www.hickerphoto.com/data/media/30/alaska-pipeline_T2171.jpg I used to be of the opinion that sugar only spoiled the flavour of coffee, but now I feel that it spoils the flavour of tea too.
there are lots of fine teas in Poland, both normal and herbal. I came back from Gdansk with loads of them including one called Melissa.
oddly enough, just before I left for Poland I got invited to be on the scientific committee of a conference in Gdansk next September. I am excited and slightly scared about this at the same time.
― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)
I wish it were that kind of pipeline, that would be exciting. And might contain James Bonds. Alas, it is a money pipeline.
I don't dislike the taste of sugar - and I have to have it in coffee - I just know that it has unpredictable effects on my mood.
Though Polish tea sounds interesting.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:34 (eighteen years ago)
This 2nd Pink Fairies cookie is taking ages to up.
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)
I even like the name for it - herbata!
― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
Heh my weekly chart makes me look like an old fart this week.
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, herbata - that sounds like something DDBs would be in search of.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)
Camel? Jesus. Family? Hooray! (xp)
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)
Or a Polish tea, perhaps. xpost
― G00blar, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)
If anyone wants some Family cookies i can provide! Camel had a few really good albums, Tom! (the early ones)
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)
I am down on DDBs this week. But I am always all for tea.
This morning, I was so sleepy I put 2 teabags in my teacup by mistake. Maybe that's why I was so grinning and happy on the train.
What am I going to do for supper tonight? I was expecting to go out for supper so I didn't plan any real food.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)
London needs a DDB Escort Agency for Gentile Ladies.
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)
Something with mushrooms in.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)
Magic?
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)
Gentile ladies? What, can I order a Jewish DDB? My mum would have kittens.
(Then again, my mum thinks that I am going to marry any boy I mention twice.)
mmmm, mushrooms, I have to think if I have any. Actually I do! And courgettes! Maybe I will make a mushroom and courgette and rosemary omelette. If I can persuade the massive friendly spider to let me get at my rosemary bush.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)
I was thinking more along the lines of a stroganoff.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)
Pot Noodle?
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)
Ramen Noodles!
― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)
That's far too complicated for me! x-post stroganoff, not pot noodle.
Oh! I have beans, too. I should put beans in my omelette.
I need to tidy my flat and dig out wherever the JAMC ticket has got to. Meeting up with Dream Machine people to go to that.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)
I was thinking about making a wild mushroom risotto tonight but will probably just settle for a cheese toastie and the remainder of my butternut squash and sweet potato homemade soup. I made a curry last night for my brother and i which was yummy, kind of made it up as i went along.
― leigh, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)
That's the best kind of curry, the made up kind.
I'm really enjoying The Deviants. They make me laugh.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)
Deviation Street is actually making me cry real tears of LOL. I want to force every rubbish BJM fan into a room and play it for them at deafening volume.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)
Is that the "This is really reproducing the acid experience, man" track?
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
It's the kind of cut-up bits of random with fake hippies shouting silly things in the background and then random sitar music and a very stoned voice announcing that the patterns in his wallpaper have just told him he has attained complete humanhood track.
So I guess, yeah.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
Awesome track
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)
I must catch up on some of this this evening.
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)
It's all very very good, but still nothing as insane as BILLY THE MONSTER just yet.
Oh wait, Garbage is getting there.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
Need to do the second CFTMG disk too
― Ed, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)
You'll be singing "Let's Loot the Supermarket" all the way home
― Tom D., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)
There's *more* CFTMG? Good lord.
ENOUGH COOKIES, I CANNOT KEEP UP.
I still haven't listened to the rest of the Je Suis Animal album that they sent me. (Still no track listing, bless. Though it came in a very cool green crepe parcel!)
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)
OK, this album just makes me want to take acid.
BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)
THE NOTHING MAN, ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH...
OK, my head just melted. This is the best album ever.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)
I wonder if Tom will like Pink Fairies. Kate will love the track Do It I'm sure.
― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)
I am d/l but probably will not get a chance to listen to until tomorrow.
TOO MUCH MUUUUSSSIC.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)
Hello, I can't get to the New Answers page today, apparently where I am they have a p*rn rating, and the NAnspage gets too much.
I did create a thread about it, but of course now I can't see it!
The search page works though, so here I am.
― Mark G, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)
I'm the only person who posted on that other thread, FWIW. I think it's the whole popularity contest thread that edged it over. Maybe.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
Argh, why did I click the Ethiopean Food thread? Coz now I want to eat that. I just want to eat the world today.
― Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)
Not one vote did I get!
Colour me relieved.
― Mark G, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)
OK, see, I thought the whole thing was hilarious. But now, apparently, it's not funny, it's creepy.
Oh, I do not understand this humour thing.
Billy... THE MONSTER!!! Billy... THE MONSTER!!!

― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)
no you were right the first time Emsk, they should all ride togther on a huge great long tandem. With a LONG VEHICLE fluorescent sign on the back, natch.
― Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)
Goddamn office crushboy is looking so fine, even if he is wearing pink.
Morning btw.
― leigh, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)
Omg traffic is right--just hustled K to victoria in a cab (she packed WAY too much, and at the last minute) so she could get gatwick express and then fly to M-n-. Nightmare, 'though our crafty cabby did get us there in time (he cut through covent garden). Victoria and northern lines actually fine in getting me back home.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:27 (eighteen years ago)
I guess no-one realised the Victoria line was running this morning because it was completely empty and one of the most pleasant commutes I've had in weeks :P
Admittedly I didn't know it was running either, I was going to get the overland but the underpass to the Liverpool St platform goes via the tube station at Walthamstow Central!
― Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)
Why didn't you get the cab to farringdon and put her on the Thameslink? (cheaper and probablty quicker on aggregate)
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)
New to the neighborhood and unaware of these new-fangled 'thameslink' things.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)
But will do that myself when I go next friday.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)
crushgirl #2 has been coming by my desk in the morning to say hello, but it may just be to practice her english (or even worse, because she just happened to be coming this way :(.
― mitya, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)
haha i LOVE this...
there was a guy yelling at me for being in his way because he jumped a red light and mine had gone green, wtf? no wonder ppl hate cyclists...
― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)
Sssssshhhhh!!! Don't tell people about the Thameslink, I want to keep it a secret so it doesn't get nasty crowded. Like it was last night when I went home. It was nice and empty again this morning, though.
Someone was painting by my desk and it smells vile, though.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)
I wish the crankiness would go. It seems to have settled in.
I'm still trying to make up my mind about the new BJM album. It's very... murky. Like the sound quality is just terrible, and I'm trying to work out if that's deliberate, or an artefact of poor MP3 compression or whatever.
I'm not sure about the beginning or the end, but there are some songs in the middle I think I really like. (Could be because they are mainly instrumentals based on loops.)
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)
OK, I need some advice. I know this is the last place to ask, but I'm gonna ask anyway.
After being so enthuasiastic about doing stuff a few weeks ago, it seems like Dean has now stopped returning my texts/emails. (OK, two texts unanswered, one email saying "let's get together and make some music" unanswered.)
Do I just write it off as one more experience with a flakey musician, or do I kind of pursue it and go "hey, what's up? You seemed so keen."
Or should I just forget about the whole thing, because any potential goodness of music made is going to be overwhelmed by my utter inability to deal with men?
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)
Ha ha ha ha, the only person who answered my ad so far is Will.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)
HA HA HA HA HA, he told me to play a REAL instrument.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:10 (eighteen years ago)
How long ago did you send the e-mails, Kate? Maybe he's busy doing something else - away from e-mails, behind with texts etc. Some people don't get back right away (er, me, for example..) but haven't forgotten. They're 'getting round to it'. I'd leave it a few days and then see.
I'm thinking about outting a new band together too....
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)
Outting?
― C J, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, outting, what of it? :)
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)
Nothing wrong with that whatsoever.
― C J, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)
He's on MySpace 24 hours a day! I can see his little "online now" light up. I had to take him off my top 8 coz it was bothering me. And no, this is really unlike him. When he was doing stuff with the Shimuras, he was answering back quite promptly. I think he's being weird.
Ah well, maybe I can play bass for Will, a ha ha ha ha.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe the texts are unanswered because his phone is flat (I am *forever* forgetting to charge mine up), and maybe the "let's get together and make music" email was sufficiently casual for him not to think it required an instant reply.
If he's online now, why not send him a quick message, along the lines of "Boo! I can see you! I'm online too - fancy a natter?" and see if he responds to that.
Most of the time, when people aren't responding to you quickly enough or enthusiastically enough, it's not that they're ignoring you or have any sort of problem with you .... it's just that people can have other stuff going on in their lives which preoccupies them etc etc. Give him the benefit of the doubt :)
― C J, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe because that was because that was something specific i.e. a gig, rather than 'working together' which is a bit more open-ended. Maybe he's thinking about it? If it's going to happen it will....
I meant putting, but maybe I should do some outting too? Have you heard that rumour about The Village People. You'll never believe it!
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:27 (eighteen years ago)
Ohmigod, if someone did that to me, I'd think CREEPY CREEPY ARGH STALKER, MUST AVOID MUST AVOID.
If I haven't heard from him by Friday, I'll just say "poke! dude, you seemed so keen a few weeks ago, are you just busy or what?"
I was pretty specific. I did ask "do you want to get together this weekend or next?" but I guess that's too open ended for DDBs. Wait, we did have this problem when I was trying to get him to rehearse for the last gig. We exchanged endless text messages, and then I had to wait for him to call me back, and finally I just had to call him back... at 10pm that night.
Maybe I just want a solo project that's *easy* - not one more thing of me constantly having to round people up.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)
Do *you* need a bass player, Dr. C?
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:31 (eighteen years ago)
this reminds me a little bit of the moment when i realized that the overwhelming majority of my human contacts were through e-mail, to the extent that - and this is actually still somewhat true - that I got uncomfortable about/required extra preparation for talking on the phone or dealing with people in real life. at the same time, however, e-mail is a substantially different communication medium and it's just not good in some ways
in this context, maybe texts/emails/myspace poking whatever is the same thing and perhaps it takes an actual call to pin him (someone) down.
all that said, my basic advice is not to keep poking, etc. leave him alone for awhile and if you don't hear anything, then just call and be very straightforward and concrete about it, e.g. "Hey i think I'm ready to do some recording on Sunday, do you have time then?"
― mitya, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)
Ohmigod, if someone did that to me, I'd think CREEPY CREEPY ARGH STALKER, MUST AVOID MUST AVOID
Really? I think it's nice. If you did it constantly that would be creepy, but as it is it's fine.
I need a singer first - without that it won't happen. I need someone who can throw themselves into garage rock, psychpop, pubrock and punkiness with a bit of conviction. It's not going to be easy to find someone. I might need a bass player too. I know exactly what the band will sound like - really tight, stripped back and blistering live (hopefully). It'll probably just be guitar, bass and drums. If I could find someone to play organ (Vox or Farfisa or the like) I'd consider it. It won't be in any way *cool* or original, just fun!
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)
Man, this is a good sandwich.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)
I HATE when people do that "I can see you online! talk to me!" thing because I usually feel so so guilty that I haven't answered their last email or whatever (usually because I've been busy chasing down someone else who isn't responding to theirs, ha ha.)
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)
xpost see that's the sort of thing where I go "Hell, I could do that!" but ach, it's hard enough to round myself up to do my own solo project!
I must write more songs! (i.e. more than one)
― Mark G, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)
Now I'm trying to book a gig for my friend Anton (not that Anton, the other one) at the Windmill. Cowboy Jim said he might be up for it, maybe see if Sande will do a set as well (especially if that will help arm twist her into getting onstage with us again.)
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)
Anton, who I've met, and seen on stage with previous SC lineup and Sande?
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, that Anton. Synth boffin from NYC/Berlin.
Not the mad spacerocker from LA with the massive sideburns.
We are looking at the middle week of October.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)
Would this be SC as well?
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)
Now I can obsess about Tim not answering my emails, because I know if he doesn't read it, it's because he's massively disorganised and suffers from IRISH HEAD OH NOES not because he HAAAAATES me.
yes, hopefully. I'm just booking gigs and seeing who else turns up. If you can't do it, I'll chase Dean. If Dean continues to flake out, I'll kidnap Diana and make her take her Rickenbacker out of the cupboard and get onstage.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)
I am currently not due to be anywhere then, if we can fix a date then I can try and make sure I am not.
(Diana could give here ricken backer to me)
I have been trying to learn to play silver machine. It looks dead simple on a guitar/bass, but sucks arse on the mandolin.
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)
If we play Silver Machine, we're doing it without their crazy weirdass tuning coz we have no sax or flute.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)
detuning by a semitone is not wierdarse, it's just folk, but we can do without it.
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)
It's a pain in the arse is what it is, all Dean's guitars are detuned a semitone. Maybe you or Lisa should try emailing him and saying DUDE YOU ARE OUR SPARE, COME PLAY WITH US which takes the weirdness away since it's coming from the rest of the band, and not me.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)
The Velvets used to do it. Lots of metal bands too.
― Tom D., Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)
I like having guitars that are interchangeable quickly with other guitars. Bearing in mind what happened at the last Shimuras gig, I am very down on crazy ass tunings.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)
I ONLY play in a crazy tuning these days!
― Tom D., Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)
Well, you're SACKED!
Oh wait, you're not in the band, are you?
Well, yr sacked anyway! Hah! ;-)
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)
So that was lunch. Now I have to go to the post office. I'm feeling kinda manic. Too much tea.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)
Detuning = constant over-bending until I get used to it. Half a tone shouldn't make a lot of difference, but I notice it.
U2 tune a semitone down IIRC.
I like open tunings like wot Keef Ricards uses.
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)
magnum double caramel. oh heaven!
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)
i been having more weird dreams. after the creepy one on saturday (where i had a baby called sarah which was v quiet and well-behaved even when i was in the middle of some big kickass adventure) last night i had one that involved a traffic accident stretching into infinity along a raised highway, a wailing woman in white behind a fence who my friend sarah was trying to give some food to, leaping skeletons that turned into dust, and a brother and sister in the rubble from the traffic accident. after i woke up from that one and went back to sleep i had another one where a dog kept sleeping on my face and i was engaged to this guy i hardly knew who did nothing but smoke hash and was really boring but everyone else was really happy about it. ??
am full of snot. just went and got thai takeaway from the place down the road with tons of extra chilllies but apparently it was not enough. snot enough, ha.
― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)
i will laugh at your joke if you xpost and laugh at my clever play on words from this morning
― mitya, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)
Strange! What's going on with Sarah that you are dreaming about her?
Infinite traffic accident sounds a bit J.G. Ballard. Stoner fiancee = ha ha ha, though.
Clearly you need more garlic in with the chillies to get rid of the snot.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)
What - I don't understand!
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)
You know, it's a bit like being the dancing bear in the circus.
People poke you with sticks to make you dance. And then one day, you get sick of being made to dance, so you think "fuck it" and instead of dancing when people poke you with sticks, you just shuffle off and find something better to do.
But for the rest of time, people talk about you "oh my god, it's the dancing bear!" and it takes on a life of its own. And people will go on and on about how you danced. And the talking about how you once danced becomes a bigger distraction than the dancing ever was. So it doesn't matter if you dance or not, people will believe that you are dancing from the talking.
That sounds like a Russian fairy tale or something.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)
i don't know what is a tubesnake!
i dunno what's up w sarah either. ain't seen her for ages as we are both so Busy and Important, but we were emailing last week and she seemed fine. omg wait she's in japan and there is a typhoon and the woman in white looked a bit like the one from the ring and that is japanese! er wait, that's bollocks.
kate you can have the stoner fiancee, he was sweet but boring. he had a red top on and floppy hair (haha nf has a new haircut it is a bit rub and i love it obviously).
traffic thing was weird... after the fence/woman bit we got a lift in a lorry and there were a lot of lorries on this highway, some cars and stuff too but mostly lorries, it was busy, we were driving along and our driver was cool, he wound his way in and out of the traffic then suddenly there was a lorry on its side across the road but he managed to avoid it, kept driving and there was more and more wreckage from accidents until the entire road (like 4/5 lanes in both directions, and all on this raised bridge going across dusty valleys, low blue sky, arid) was jammed with wrecked traffic. then it stopped being from my pov, like the camera pulled back, and you could see the highway stretching into the distance full of dead cars. camera stopped zooming out, there was a beat, that's when a load of skeletons leap up from all the cars and the road, hang in the air for a second and turn to dust.
― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
No, that makes sense, if you know that she is in Japan and Japan is in danger. Thanks for the stoner fiancee ha ha, oh dear.
Wow, that sounds so cool. I would like to see a film of that, as made by Tim Burton in claymation.
Car crash ahead, but you keep going anyway, and you get in deeper and deeper and the crash gets worse and worse until you can't keep going. Is your subconscious trying to tell you something?
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)
no kate, YOU are trying to tell me something! ;)
anyway our lorry didn't get wrecked, we were fine - we just had to stop driving...
― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, so you're saying, you're, like, made of steel, and can drive through perilous situations that make EVERYONE ELSE crash, but you're safe, and it's only OTHER PEOPLE'S CRASHES that are stopping you from getting where you want to go, then? ;-)
I am listening to the whole album Je Suis Animal sent me. Shivers, down my spine. Seriously. I love them so much. I want to go and investigate spooky haunted houses with them.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)
I liked the sampler a lot.
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)
Do you want me to copy the whole album for you, are or are you snowed under with cookies? I don't know when it's going to be finished/released so I feel a bit funny about sharing the whole thing.

http://www.spinner.com/2007/05/11/the-20-worst-band-photos-no-20/ Go through the top 20 and lets see if we can decide who is the worst.

YES TAHT IS ZACKLY WHAT I'M AM SAYIGN
nah... i dunno. it wasn't like *everyone else died*, there were people wandering around. but yeah, before going to sleep i was having one of my minor spazouts about the whole situ. woke up feeling well tuff this morning though, emotionally as well as physically.
― emsk, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)
No 18 is a definite contender

― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)
Aww no, they're my favourite! You just know there's garage-rock monsters hiding in there!
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)
Is this the same Warlocks? Bobby Hesckhler or however you spell his name?
Coz this just sounds like some boring post-rock band so far.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)
I'm waiting for someone to come along and say he sees nothing wrong with no 20.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)
It's the new one on Tee Pee Records. Apparently it's more like the 1st album than the crappy major label stuff that NME loved. Not heard it myself. Their last stuff really turned me off them.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)
Tee Pee Records presents the latest dose of stoned majesty from The Warlocks http://www.teepeerecords.com/bands/warlocks/images/heavy200.jpg Eight electric tales moving from space-marooned heavy blues to angelic, opiated dream haze—all propelled via the crud-fuzz of White Light/White Heat Velvets and Jesus and Mary Chain and the sprawling, melted constructions of Spacemen 3 and Red Krayola. Out October 23rd.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)
Which was the crappy major label one?
The only one I've got is Phoenix. Is there another one? I'm so out of touch with BJM satellite bands.
x-post oh god, they've got breasts on their album cover. How subversive. Well, that's one I won't be buying.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)
Can you ever have a subversive nude breast?
― Ed, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)
Same label as THE ASSEMBLE HEAD IN SUNBURST SOUND , Titan, Earthless, Cloudland Canyon, BJM etc http://www.teepeerecords.com/
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)
Oh wait, you're talking about "Rise & Fall" (Bomp 2000) which I don't have. Sorry, I only have the shite one. is the first one any good, then?
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)
First album was great. the 2nd album wasn't so great and the 3rd was worse.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)
I thought this was their third? Oh, I know nothing.

― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
I tried to erase them from memory too.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)
it's just really annoying, because it's turned out that they are a huge influence on the vein of DDB rock that I really DON'T like. I didn't even realise that's where it was coming from. I blamed the BMRC.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)
BMRC are to blame for a lot of things.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)
I once had one of their albums. But I think I sold it or maybe even gave it away, it was so so so rubbish.
But the Warlocks I kind of think I kind of should like.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)
1st album maybe. The others were more accessible, but then again maybe you wont hate that since you liked Phoenix.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)
I hated Phoenix when it first came out. It just kind of grew on me due to repeated exposure. I mean, it's catchy like that.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 09:22 (eighteen years ago)
traffic is still insane though! this morning there were thousands of bikes too - more than there have been the rest of the week - not all wobbly ones, just LOADS of them. pretty much as soon as i hit london fields there were fleets of us the whole way into town. is there something going on?
― emsk, Thursday, 6 September 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)
I think it's a case of be careful what you wish for ;)
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 6 September 2007 09:34 (eighteen years ago)
It's a nice day, people in the habit of cycling.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)
glad it's nice in London. wish it was here. one of those uniformly grey skies over Oxford right now. it makes the view from my office look speshly miserable on a/c of the fact that so many of the buildings are grey ie the whole Mini facotry, the David Lloyd sports centre, random chimneys and our car park.
― Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 6 September 2007 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

I was in Chester once on a really hot day just before Easter. There was a display of chocolate rabbits in a sweet shop window that had all melted so there were heads falling off and eye sockets dripping down faces. It was like a Watership Down horror set.
Chester's nice to walk around, as cities go.
― onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

Money?
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)
It's a 'hire-out', I get expenses, to stay in a hotel (nice, admittedly), and free meals in nice restaurants. With a colleague who is a good laff etc, but hey I'd rather be w/Family, who I kinda like you know?
― Mark G, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)
Morning! Busses back to normal, which is nice. COuld get a seat on the 25.
Had a lovely dinner with Frances last night, and got my staff copy of Plan B (yay, two pieces in it!) and had a good old gossip.
And this morning I'm filled with fire - I've been talking, on Flickr and MySpace to a couple of other artists and photographers who also work a lot in the music scene. And thinking we should start a zine... no, we should start a movement, no, we should start a GUILD of psychedelic artists or something. It would be nice to get in touch with other people who do poster art and stuff, exchange ideas, maybe even do a show... possibly even a combining art and music poncey pretentious thing with live action painting and stuff. WHo knows! I'm feeling quite manic today and it all seems like a good idea.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)
At the moment (well, not Right This Second, obviously), I'm reading the "Story of Crass" which has lots of stuff about the art movements they grew up from/with/through/out of. Interesting stuff...
― Mark G, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)
That 20 worst band photos thing was bollocks. "lest find a bunch of people at the bottom of the heap, and piss on them still further". I (predictably) thought the goth girl band was hott!
― Pashmina, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)
let's, even.
― Pashmina, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

But, yeah, I guess what Pash said was what I was expecting.

― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)
At the moment (well, not Right This Second, obviously), I'm reading the "Story of Crass"
In similar vein there's The Day The Country Died by Ian Glasper which covers the whole early 80s anarcho scene.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)
Wow, I was thinking more about the whole 60s art/music thing - the way that the artists were so much a part of the whole Fillmore explosion. And the Ladbroke Grove bands were all intertwined with the free press of the period, and art/music happenings like UFO and the like.
I think that "installing software" thing was just an interstitial to get you to try and click on it, but it still freaked me out. it was just like Your Band Sucks but less funny.
I kinda liked the haystack teeth band, I'm sure they played Track and Field back in the day. ;-)
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)
Psychedelic zine would be a great idea, music is very unidimensional with out, visual and literary art as well (the same goes for those too)
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)
or rather music can be more multi-dimensional
something like that anyway
No, I know what you mean. I like music which has all those kinds of media mixed together, a whole package, a syllabus. Those are the kind of movements that really last.
Wow, I'm selling more posters, too, on the BJM board, which is great.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like Jim has made an executive decision because I didn't want to have to, and now we're aiming at Thursday 18th October:
JIM CLEMENTS AND THE RIGHT TO DIE ANTON SWORD SHIMURA CURVES
Ed, do you think you can do that, or am I going to have to kick Dean until he snaps out of his stoner haze?
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)
Also, might like to have a "special guest" in there but can't think of who could do it. I wonder how much Will would change to come down and ramble for half an hour!

I can do that, I will try and make sure that work does not fuck it up.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)
:( a parcel deliverer just rang, but it turned out to be for my upstairs neighbour ;_;
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)
::bounce::
I am feeling way too bouncy today. What the heck is up with that?
Now I just wish I could direct some of the bounciness into actually WORKING for a change...
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)
A big spider has colonized my balcony; I think I might just cede the territory and stay indoors.
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)
It's a British spider, can't be that big
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)
Spiders are OUR FRIENDS. They are on the side of good. I have a really cute big spider that has colonised my little back herb patch. I feel bad when I harvest my rosemary because it destroys a little bit of her home and she has to rebuild. But mostly I like her, she eats the bad bugs that eat my vegetables.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)
They may very well be on the side of good, but I do not want to spend time with them.
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)
They're fine when they're outside. It's when they come in the house that they must be shown the door. Or the window as the case may be.
This year is apparently a bumper crop for spiders. Are you arachnaphobic or something?
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)
A bit like the Metropolitan Police? (xp)
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)
Exactly, Tom. Not Arachnophobic, no, just don't like bugs, 'specially big scary-looking ones.
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)
the metropolitan police are arachnophobic?
i like spiders. inside, outside, whatever.
― emsk, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)
I used to be scared of spiders, until I found out more about them, and then discovered how cool they are. Now I'm semi-obsessed with bugs. Not as obsessed as Emsk or Frances, but I do like them.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)
The Metropolitan Police are well arachnophobic.
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)
"urgh! ommfg a SPIDAH! save me larry! *squeals* shoot the fucker! BAM!"
― emsk, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)
You can't shoot a cop! Even if it's a spider one!
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)
I like that he shouted "ommfg."
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)
"Orwight, my son, you're nick, put yer 'ands up... all eight of 'em"
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:43 (eighteen years ago)
It's quicker to shout OMFUG then CBGBS! in a crisis.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)
OMFUG!!! C.B.HEEBIEJEEBIES!!!
I have mices again. A lot worse than spiders. They are nibbling the bait from the traps without springing them.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)
Bold mices. Get one cat.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:45 (eighteen years ago)
OMFUG! Spiders give me the CBGBs!
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:45 (eighteen years ago)
I'd rather have a spider than a mice. (O, Dana!)
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:45 (eighteen years ago)
I was going to ask frances if she could loan for a few days.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:45 (eighteen years ago)
There are horrible mices in the office. I saw one the other night.
Frances has a good cat, I'm sure she would loan. She only has 3 legs, though, so I'm not sure how good she would be against an eight legged arachnid.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)
Do I dare to eat a peach?
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)
three legs is fine as long as he/she smells like a cat.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)
I would also settle for a mouse eating spider.
Cats aren't necessarily any good against mice, if the mice are smart they will stay where cats can't get them, i.e. in your food cupboard.
We got an ultrasonic mice repeller which seems to work, no evidence of mice activity since we plugged it in.
I hate spiders. We have fucking loads of them in our yard. As long as they stay there I don't mind. We had a fucking MASSIVE one in our lounge the other week though. It was about 3-4 inches long. I flushed it down the loo.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)
Aaah, crushgirl why are you not answering my email?

we have one of those ultrasonic thingies, no mice action since we got it.
the nf had mice in his office bc he is an even worse packrat than i am.

ACH.
Patience, Mitya!
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)
I can hear the ultrasonic things and they drive me away.
― Ed, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)
you can hear them all the time? wow. we can hear them when flatmate's son pushes the test button, which is quite a lot, and for ten minutes or so afterwards, but not the rest of the time.
― emsk, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah I could hear it when I first plugged it in, and it was quite annoying, but in normal operation it's so ultrasonic even the cats can't hear it.
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)
all in good fun, k8. should make you feel better - we all have the same neuroses (neurosises? neurosi?)
― mitya, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)
(xp) Oh bastard, I was going to do a clever quote from an Incredible String Band song here but the animals (or the senses) are the wrong way round:
shall I now put lion's ears upon my ears hear every sound as a roar shall I now put mouse's eyes upon my eyes gauge the moon for size against my paw
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)
I'm sure that would drive me insane. My hearing is bad enough without some freaky ultrasonic noise driving me weird. it'd be like that bit in teh Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers where they fry the audience by mistake.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)
OK YOU GOT ME I CONFESS
I snipped the spider's web.
And I'd do it again if I had to!
― G00blar, Thursday, 6 September 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)
Call the spider cops, he confessed!

― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)
I'm going to have some tea... and I'm having a "Bog Frog" to go with it

I don't know what that is, and am afraid to ask.
I would really like some chocolate, but took all the change out of my bag last night so I specifically couldn't.

I have to admit, I was tipped off.
I am eating crepes dentelle de Bretagne avec chocolat au lait, which I brought back from Paris last week. They are small crispy biscuits made from a sheet of dough folded over and over, so when you bite into one it shatters and bits drop all over the place.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)
Tom can you get a visual of those things slowly moving through your arteries right now?

― pfunkboy, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)
Tom, did you get that new Charles Mingus that just came out? I think it's a previously unreleased recording with Eric Dolphy on it. It was made around the time Dolphy played on Point of Departure by Andrew Hill and his own Out To Lunch. I can cookie it..
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
I don't actually like "Point of Departure" or "Out To Lunch"!
― Tom D., Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)
"Out To Lunch" is OK I suppose. I hate the trumpet playing on it tho.
You like Mingus?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/430000/images/_430833_boosh150.jpg The Wire review says it's the 1st earliest recording of the line up of the great sextet: drummer dannie richmond, pianist Jaki Byard, tenor saxophonist CliffordJordan, trumpeter Johnny Coles and Eric Dolphy on alto, flute and clarinet.

Ok, I'm listening to that first Warlocks album, and it's still rubbish. DESTROY ALL FAKE DDBs.
― Masonic Boom, Thursday, 6 September 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)
it's funny because there really are people who think i'm a huge jerk, as far as i know.
i sort of noticed it in a particular unhealthy relationship (small r) that i've had for a few years, but now i also feel it going on with crushgirl #2, and i'm starting to worry a little bit whether it's working because i'm crushing, or i'm crushing (more) because it's working.
the thing is, i think, that toward me it is "honest," i.e. she is kind of stressed out and traumatized (and told me that on one level the solution was easy enough - just to go to our boss and cry a little). and i'm really not in a position to help, so it can't "work" on me

I am feeling way too hyper. It's a bit scary. I just want to organise things.
But! I have started a new zine, it is all go, this amazing artist chick Mia is going to do it with me, which is well cool. This is one of her DDBs - well cool!

See? I am totally hyper! Not only did I used the phrase "well cool" but I used it twice in the same sentance. Cannot concentrate. Feel a bit weird. Maybe I should stop even pretending to work and just go home.

― pfunkboy, Thursday, 6 September 2007 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)
Oh boy, why did I eat the carrot cake? Druggy feeling, oh yes. I wonder if there's some kind of food additive that only gets in carrot cake that produces this reaction in me.
That said, I need something to calm down the HYPER of the past few days.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)
Have you been exercising a lot recently?
― Ed, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)
YES YES YES YES YES.
Maybe I should stop if this is what it does to my brain. I can't take being this hyper all the time. I feel so tired in the morning - until I get up and spend 20 minutes on the machine. and then I feel hyper. It's kind of awful.
But Frances asked me the other day "have you lost weight?" and I was surprised she noticed, but I have actually. It's a weird side effect, when what I really wanted was to get out of depression.
I JUST WANT TO FEEL NORMAL, NOT HYPER HYPER HYPER LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME. Can't I find a joyful palmreader?
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)
Also, I hadn't had any tea this morning becuase I ran out. I am now rectifying this situation.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Ack. Been pricing tickets to Cuba for November (since I have spent precisely the WHOLE DAY waiting for someone else to finish a task before I can do anything) and they are ridiciously expensive. At least it seems: J630 (see how I converted into pounds for you guys :)
― mitya, Friday, 7 September 2007 11:40 (eighteen years ago)
Don't trust Ed! He will drink your beer AND TALK TO YOU!!!
― Mark G, Friday, 7 September 2007 11:42 (eighteen years ago)
Cuba? Are you ALLOWED to go to Cuba, Mitya? Don't you have an American passport?
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 11:46 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, what should I have for lunch today? I don't fancy any the usual. I kinda of want noodles. Where to get, in this neighbourhood?
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)
What I really want is noodles, sesame sauce, cold hard boiled egg, and maybe some cucumber slices as a garnish. Where on earth does that come from? Have had it, at Pret or Eat or somewhere.
Can't face another eggy sammich, I had one for breakfast.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

Someone left an empty Fresh and Wild box in the trash, and now I want to know where it came from, because I want salady hummusy things for lunch.

I got a pie. It seemed appropriate for going to see the JAMC. I wanna pie on a sunny day. I wanna pie in the USA.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)
Whoa, I've been having a dicussion about god and religion on another messageboard which has lasted a couple of hours without anyone being nasty or getting personal! I think this must be a new record or something.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)
<i>Did you get the Mingus?</i>
I feel like I need to wash my hands after reading that. Okay kids have a good weekend. I am off to the dacha for shashlyk and vodka. See you (blurrily) Monday.
― mitya, Friday, 7 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)
You lucky man! Talk to you Monday.

Bye Mitya have fun!!
The new Witchcraft album is teh awesome!!
― pfunkboy, Friday, 7 September 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)
I feel really unwell all of a sudden. It's too bloody hot and there's no air in here. I just really hope I'm not coming down with something. Bah! I'm supposed to see JAMC tonight! DOn't be ill.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)
1400 words. Slowing a bit, but that's ok. I refuse (refuse!) to konk out after dinner. I have to have to have to use all the time that i'm awake (with plenty of breaks, of course).
― G00blar, Friday, 7 September 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)
Well done! I'm going to have some more tea in a desperate bit to feel better.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)
Wonder what songs JAMC will play.
― pfunkboy, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)
I imagine they'll be doing the same setlist they've been doing the whole tour. Only surprise will be which boring girl celeb they'll drag up onstage to do the female voice bits.
I'm kind of not very excited about this right now. Probably because I'm feeling a bit rubbish physically. I'm sure in a couple of hours I'll be excited, as soon as I see them, though.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)
Oh god, I'm starting to feel really unwell. But no, I have GOT to go. Maybe I'll go and have something really really spicey hot beforehand, and then not drink and hope that I don't feel iller.
The girl I'm supposed to meet up with just messaged me going "CALL ME WHEN YOU GET THERE!" and forgot to include her phone number. D'oh!
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)
I don't know what the setlist is though.
― pfunkboy, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)
RFH set from June, I imagine toinght's set will be fairly close to thid:
Never Understand Head On Far Gone and Out Catchfire Sidewalking Snakedriver Dead End Kids (originally a Freeheat/Jim Reid song) Happy When It Rains Some Candy Talking Between Planets Blues From a Gun Cracking Up All Things Must Pass (new song) Teenage Lust Just Like Honey
Encore: Vegetable Man You Trip Me Up Reverence
I think Vegetable Man is what I'll miss the most. So jealous of Kaet, and Ailsa who saw them at Connect last weekend.
― onimo, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

i should probably say something cleverer than just "good morning" but somehow i can't be bothered. so, "good morning"
― mitya, Monday, 10 September 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)
Good morning. I'm up to about 7,000 words. Have to write 2-3000 more by 5pm. It's possible
― G00blar, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:26 (eighteen years ago)
.
Woha, what happens when you're not finished, Gooblar? :-(
*waves*
― nathalie, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:30 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, basically it sets in motion a chain of events--if I don't finish the chapter today, my supervisor can't read it for our meeting tomorrow, and since I'm off to M-n- on Friday (to get married), I won't be able to do any more work til I get back, first week of October. I will then have far too much to finish to be able to submit the whole thesis by the end of October, which is when most job apps (in the states, that is) are due in--and it will help my job chances a ton if I've submitted.
― G00blar, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:37 (eighteen years ago)
My husband's cousin has to redo her last year (of university) because she failed. Her thesis "wasn't good enough." We don't know what went wrong exactly, we only know that her mother went berserk and demanded she go find a cleaning job while (re)writing her thesis.
Uh, I hope you don't have to do this. Please continue writing! Until it's finished in TIME. :-)
― nathalie, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:43 (eighteen years ago)
Wow. Yeah, you do NOT want to go through the hell that is finishing and submitting only to be told it's not good enough. I think I would honestly consider saying 'fuck off' and just becoming a high school teacher.
― G00blar, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:46 (eighteen years ago)
I was astounded when my husband said it wasn't uncommon for some students to fail, not being able to write a proper thesis. Maybe it's for the best I dropped out so soon. ;-) Then again I probably wrote my thesis in the first year: I *overwrote* when I made that developmental psychology project. It was nearly the size of a book. The assistent didn't understand how I could write so well and still fail my exam. hahaha Ah well...
Uh, ooookay, I think it's better I either shut up about such failings or encourage you to finish your work!
― nathalie, Monday, 10 September 2007 07:55 (eighteen years ago)
whereas my thesis itself was fine and i had a panic attack during my orals... anything is possible. take your time
― mitya, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:21 (eighteen years ago)
In my subject area, failures were unknown. If you got enough results to write up and managed to turn in a decent thesis, the viva was pretty much a formality.
Until.....a bloke a year ahead of me, known as very bright, with solid research under his belt...FAILED HIS VIVA! He didn't have enough original research and apparently fell apart during the viva. They asked him to go back and do more work and submit again. This obv freaked out everyone else in the department who was about to write up, including me. Thankfully I got through, mainly because the external examiner was keen to get finished and go Christmas shopping (it was Dec 21st).

....for one who abstains
that is, I need a word better than "abstainer"
― G00blar, Monday, 10 September 2007 08:35 (eighteen years ago)
during my orals... anything is possible. take your time
That last part of the sentence works in so many ways.

I'm basically looking for a one-word syllable for 'conscientious objector':
He recognizes that Zuckerman’s cabin is an “upgraded replica” of Ira’s shack in the woods, his “beloved retreat,” the symbol of Ira’s utterly unrealistic vision of himself as a pure ______ from the evils of capitalism.

hm, quiet around here, it seems.
so crushgirl (crushwoman would be more appropriate, i think, but doesn't sound nearly as good does it) is back in the office today - she was out sick yesterday. over the weekend i was battling doubts: these cross-cultural things are so difficult (did i write all this above?) it's difficult enough in general to read another person, but you also have to understand all kinds of contextual things about them - i.e. not about them as a person but about the social/cultural environment they live in. (maybe it's just that those things are always difficult to read about work colleagues, although somehow i think our scopes are better trained for our own culture.)
i really should start blogging again instead of bored you guys with all this.

Life's like that
― Mark G, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)
Tell me about it... well, not literally of course
― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)
That would take far too long in any case.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)
Can it be untangled into loving simplicity?
― nathalie, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)
I hope so. Who will be loving who at the end of it is the puzzler.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:52 (eighteen years ago)
You might get a song out of it - if you were a songwriter that is
― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:54 (eighteen years ago)
Damn. Maybe I could learn, quick...
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:55 (eighteen years ago)
First thing to do is find a line that scans and rhymes with "Can it be untangled into loving simplicity?"
― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

if I were a songwriter that is But I'm not. And neither are you! (Change at Crewe)

morning!
omg bestival such an ace weekend...
highlights: the orb (perfect end to a festival), marlena shaw (the most fun bit of dancing all weekend), the early years (omg somewhere with proper sound and lights i am flattened on the back wall), the gossip (beth ditto is awesome! i don't care if anyone thinks she's sold out, she made me totally fucking joyful, rolling around on the floor in her pants, generally pwning the place), the chem bros' incredible lightshow (music was a bit... meh but the lights were OMMFG), tunng (flatonmybackonahillinthesunshine), friendly fires (totally not what i expected; lithe and confident and soulful) and bat for lashes (i am OBSESSED. when i got to work yesterday morning i bought the album on itunes and it has been on repeat ever since. HOW DOES SHE KNOW??). also the people. it reminded me how funny and inventive and clever and geeky and lovely people can be. love it.
(but please if i ever say i am thinking of going to a festival in a car ever again, STOP ME)
― emsk, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)
mm... you've made a festival sound fun. how did you manage that?
i have to say (or repeat myself) i am quite enjoying the new chems record.
― mitya, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)
bcs it WAS fun!
also argh NO sleep...
well about 5 hrs friday night but then3.5 hrs sunday morning and 2hrs monday morning. was so so spun out yesterday, it was nice, i came to work then went to brighton for a gig (which was wicked) and it was all a bit not-real and i booked a car to come get me from the station when i got back to london which i never do so that was like a nice treat
― emsk, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)
OK, Kate's away, and the WC thread nearly continued w/o her for a day!
But packed in at lunchtime!
― Mark G, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)
Yep, I'll second that, emsk - bestival was great... I'll add Billy Bragg (got us all audience-participatory on a reworded cover of One Love: let's drop the debt, and it'll be all right), Foals (how did that guitarist's jeans stay up? They were half down when he started), Kid Carpet (improvisational brilliance when his zip drive failed) and Scroobious Pip (gamely attempting spoken word to 2,000 ravers in the Big Top at 11pm on Sunday) to The Orb (none of their kompact minimalism, just the thundering dub, fantastic). I'm sure the Chemical Brothers just pressed play on the same tape they made for their Glastonbury gig though.
It was great to see you too. Shame your Brighton gig conflicted with The House of Love warming up for their Don't Look Back gig at the Engine Room, or I'd have come along. Mind you, HOL were awesome, even if they did f- up Shine On a bit at the end.

DAER WATERCOOLER,
I am off to Montenegro tomorrow. When I return, in two and a half weeks, I will be a married man. I know you'll miss me, but try to keep yr heads up, stiff upper lip, carry on etc. Let's see some of that Watercooler Spirit, eh!
Yours,
Admiringly,
G00blar

argh! crushgirl is out of the office next week :(
― mitya, Friday, 14 September 2007 07:57 (eighteen years ago)
and on top of that, my boss sort of gave lip service to "all the other things (I) do" - not that there are really that many - but said my main "project" needed to be training up my new co-worker, who is struggling. of all the thankless tasks... :(
― mitya, Friday, 14 September 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)
Montenegro welcomes it's newest citizen:

Hello there. Things are strange.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)

― emsk, Friday, 14 September 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, other people. I'm not sure I'll ever understand them.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Friday, 14 September 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)
says friend of mine to me earlier this week:
"Watching you at a party is great. you're like a blind man in a maze, for a minute you're going along fine, and then you come to a wall and suddenly you have no idea what to do. there's a few minutes or arms waving madly, bumping into more walls. if you're lucky you get started again but sometimes you just huddle in a corner waiting for someone to lead you out."
frighteningly accurate.
apropos of nothing: i just realized that I have been drinking decaf coffee at home for months.

Most of it playing the sort of playground games featuring the kind of violence only 11 year olds can devise, but only adults can perfect.
― Ed, Monday, 17 September 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)
How does Last.Fm work exactly? Are those figures what people in the Watercooler group have listened to on their site?
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 17 September 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)
feel better now
last fm knows what you listen to in your itunes
― emsk, Monday, 17 September 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)
Do you have to use itunes?
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 17 September 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)
no it works with other players too
it doesn't know what you play on myspace (mostly myspace.com/micktravis and myspace.com/mondayclubband at the moment), so mine is always inaccurate
― emsk, Monday, 17 September 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)
lol I am n00b. OK I'm now on Last.FM Watercooler group so now you can see which smelly old punk band I am listening to today. Although I am currently listening to Felix Da Housecat, which isn't old or punk but might be a bit smelly.
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 17 September 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)
hey everyone, sorry to only jump in when I want something, but does anyone know the cycling pence per mile figure for being self employed - can't find it on a (admittedly very cursory) glance through the UK tax website. Also, can anyone recommend a site that tells you how far in miles cycling from a to b is?
― Nobodysprawn, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)
bikely.com let's you define routes and it tells you how far they are, no idea about the pence per mile thing.
― Ed, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)
you might find it on www.lcc.org.uk
gmap-pedometer.com also lets you do the route/distance thing
― emsk, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

― Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)
No - we run a self-storage warehouse, they're after one of the customer units.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 12:15 (eighteen years ago)

― pfunkboy, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)
I was going to post on here this morning but couldn't find the damn thing.
How is everyone? Today, I feel almost as if I am a character in a Belle and Sebastian song. Yes, things are that odd.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:53 (eighteen years ago)
stringbean jean? Or have you been licking railings (again)?
― Mark G, Monday, 24 September 2007 09:00 (eighteen years ago)
I had to search via the days thing. Eventually found it on the 6 days ago thing.
― pfunkboy, Monday, 24 September 2007 09:00 (eighteen years ago)
Not *exactly* like a Belle and Sebastian song character.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 24 September 2007 09:03 (eighteen years ago)
Is anyone gonna chat or is the cooler really gonna die?
― pfunkboy, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)
i'll chat!
I am eating ginger cake and it is nummy!
lol the person who made the cakes sent an email to everyone in our business unit saying "cake by my desk". unfortunately, some of the ppl in that email group work in our Singapore and Edinburgh offices and so won't get any; one of the Singapore people just emailed back to say "Don't worry we have lots of moon cake in our fridge"
MOON CAKE????
― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)
It's on a stick.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)
Well, I'm more skinny than round, but yes.
― Mark G, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)
My dad got a nice Iced Ginger cake from Greggs on saturday. Was very nice. 62p though!
― pfunkboy, Monday, 24 September 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)
i think it comes in different colours. it's really nothing like cake. i think it's like... damp soya-based crumbly solids... weird texture and weirdly tasteless-but-instantly-recognisable... i have had it like twice, i'm not keen on it really. ken or someone will be able to tell you more.
i have been buying the £2.50 cakes from peyton and byrne. SO GOOD! SO EXTRAVAGANT! not like every day... more like twice a month... last week i had a cheesecake that was £3.50! srsly nummy cheesecake though
also YEAH YEAH this weekend truck did not drown! emma pollock was my favourite and so were fonda 500
― emsk, Monday, 24 September 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)
Oooh, Emma Pollock :-)
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)
I would have liked to have gone to Truck but unfortunately I am v low on funds owing to everything in my flat going wrong at once and needing to be replaced. So Oct 7 for the Decembrists will prolly be the first visit to the newly-refurbished Co-op Hall Venue Zodiac Carling Academy Oxford for me and I hope they have got TEH SOUND sorted by then; assorted friends who saw New Young Pony Club there last Thursday said it was really rub.
Oh, did you see The Witches, Emsk? Just been speaking to their guitarist?
― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)
£3.50 for a cheesecake?!!
― pfunkboy, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)
That had better be a damn good cheesecake for that price
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)
or big.
― Mark G, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)
No.

is your wedding on friday or something?
― mitya, Monday, 24 September 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, emma pollock :) i was covering the office when she came to collect her fee so i got to have a little fangirl chat with her. the first thing i did when i got in this morning was buy her album...
isn't the zodiacademy now called the cardiac, generally?
it is damn good cheesecake.
― emsk, Monday, 24 September 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

Truck talk! I always think I don't like Fonda 500 but they were so much fun I forgot to go and see Gravenhurst. And Fuck Buttons were ace. And thanks Kate for making me think I should go and see the Early Years because they did a special drummerless extra-krauty-droney set. But right now I am mostly wanting to marry Owen Tromans, who I only saw by accident (I liked San Lorenzo but I didn't realise he'd been in them) and whose new single is the best pound I've spent this year.
Are moon cakes like mochi cakes? Mm, cake.
― a passing spacecadet, Monday, 24 September 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, Fonda 500 really made me laugh! And they sounded great. It was a very quick Truck for the me this year though. Emsk, we liked you in your big floppy hat with the sunflower, which looked like it came from Bestival?
― angle of d..., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 06:36 (eighteen years ago)
I just realised that I put an unwanted question mark in my post upthread....*I* had just been talking to the guitarist of Witches, who works here. I wasn't asking if Emsk had!
ooh, yr reports of Truck sound so good. stage one of getting a working shower has now been achieved, stopcock on the water supply now turns (thanks Gary and Colin, handy having friends who are handymen) and now it's on to stage two - ring the engineer at the shower manufacturer.

and fondas did a shoutout to the belgian but she wasn't there :(
no i didn't see witches... did catch most of the early years and yeah, they sounded lush. saw the last 2 songs of gravenhurst but it was kind of the wrong vibe after fonda...
and yeah that hat came from bestival (you saw it there, no? i was wearing it most of sunday), i love it now.

― Ed, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)
there's a guy who works here who looks v like simon amstell; I suspect he is only too aware of it too, as he goes around the office wearing a kind of world weary "yeah yeah, i can't help it" look.

― Tom D., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

― pfunkboy, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)
Good-looking female freshers?
No, actually, I have enough problems with relationships at the moment without getting myself into more trouble.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)
Sigh. Well hopefully the freshers at least will leave me alone for the rest of the day since there seems to be yet another piss up in the offing, heralded by a giant inflatable gorilla thing on the lawn.
FP, some of the freshers are probably good-looking and female but they all look about 12 to me these days so I'm not sure.
― Archel, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

it escaped from truck
we were told it came from norwich - you should tell it how to get home

congrats, goobs!
― mitya, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)
Thanks guys! The two weeks prior to the wedding were awful--no sleep, all stress, stomach illness, on-and-off shit weather, crazy families--but the wedding itself was the best night ever. Despite all sorts of organizational incomptence (dinner was served at 5:45; dessert at 6:30--for a party that went until 1am!), it was just amazing. I was just flooded with emotion for the ceremony, and then was able to completely enjoy an unbelievable party with about 95% of the people I love in the world there. Jews dancing to Balkan music, Montenegrins dancing to Hava Nagila, everyone dancing to Stevie Wonder; I didn't even notice I was on 3 hours sleep.
― G00blar, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:55 (eighteen years ago)
Congrats!

that's how mainstream the group is. You can check for your own profile too.
Also use this http://www.musickum.com/omi/ to find out how openminded you are.
Mine is http://www.musickum.com/omi/index.php5?username=trailofgybe
― pfunkboy, Monday, 8 October 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
I'm 5% mainstream. LOL indie!
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 08:29 (eighteen years ago)
Last week I was 1.41% mainstream. Overall I am 0.72% mainstream.
My Open Mind Index is 156, which apparently means "an extremely high bandwidth of tags; an absolute freethinker and freak" (I'm sure there was a similar Open Mind test which was rubbish, this one seems to have a fairly good system of working it out).
― emil.y, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)
I am a disappointing 22% mainstream!
(largely because Belle and Sebastian are apparently pretty popular on Last.FM)
― Forest Pines Mk2, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)
I'm liking your holiday photos FP. Tell me more about the launceston rly. and that rather vintage looking loco you were riding behind.
― Ed, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)
Congratulations G00blar!
― suzy, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)
The Launceston Steam Railway was built, as far as I can tell, purely so that the chap who bought that engine had something to run it on. It's a couple of miles long, and is built on the trackbed of the LSWR's Padstow line.
The engine's a Quarry Hunslet; I think originally from the Penrhyn Quarry near Llanberis. They're fairly common, because the Welsh slate quarries owned an awful lot of them, so a lot survived into preservation.

― Mark G, Monday, 29 October 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)
domain
I first encountered this word when it was used by Tarzan in the introduction to the animated Filmation series. "This is the jungle, this is my domain", so I will forever associate it with the cartoon. I told this to someone at work who laughed and said that Tarzan introduced her to the word too.
― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 29 October 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)
Is she called Jane?
― pfunkboy, Monday, 29 October 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)
so what happened to miss boom? ilx seems a bit bland lately without her, has she left for good?
― Ste, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, something about someone having a personal vendetta against her and people using to word aspie too freely and therefore not having respect for people with mental difficulties. She explained it in a blog post on her myspace, but I can't link there since "This specific blog entry you're trying to read is currently set to be viewable to the blog owner friends only." and my attempt at asking her to come back has remained unanswered so there.

― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
Dr C are you playing rugby on boxing day this year?
Yes! Why? Do you want a game?
― Dr.C, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)
Haha nah, I just remembered that you had damaged your ribs or something last year and wondered if you were going to quit like you said you might.
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)
Well I keep saying I will, but I keep getting talked back into just another game, another season etc etc. But I still enjoy it massively. This season I have played around 10 games without getting too smashed up - last season was just bad luck with ribs, kidney, back problems.
― Dr.C, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)
Well as long as you're fit and healthy enough and you enjoy it you should keep going!

Hows married life G00blar?
― Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)
Married life per se is great; married life in which we're both finishing PhDs is not so great.
― G00blar, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)
When do you finish it?
― Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)
Trying to finish my conclusion today. If my supervisor signs off on that (before she heads off to australia on saturday for three weeks), I'll fix everything up and submit (knock wood) in 2-3 weeks.

― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)
Nah, I think if I had to wait on hold with BT for hours then argue with half-wits all while trying to finish my intro I'll truly lose it.

― Pashmina, Monday, 10 December 2007 12:04 (eighteen years ago)
I'm sure I listened to more than 17 releases last week. Last.FM must not have the pictures for the others I suppose.
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 10 December 2007 12:31 (eighteen years ago)
I remember an old flatmate of mine found this album in a charity shop:

― Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 10 December 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)
Djed with kate on saturday supporting Litmus, a guitar, bass drums and wub quartet with strong hawkwind influences. Whole heap of fun. We made the room rock to silver machine and ruckzuck and lots of bubblegum psych, I never managed to break out The Nice though.
Kate is blocked from ILX at work but may be being made redundant from there anyway. Something she relishes as it pays more than resigning.
― Ed, Monday, 10 December 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)
Of course it does! Never resign, I say!

― Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 10 December 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
You may be almost 30, but how old do you feel?

I still feel about 19/20!

Check your personal Last.fm.-taste in music and your open mind index (OMI)! The calculation is based on your top-artist of the last 12 months. The weighting of a tag depends on the quantity of your played songs of one artist, as well as the most frequently used tag for this artist. On the basis of quantity, distribution and weighting of the tags, the OMI will be calculated. Typical OMI values: Below 20: an extremely small bandwidth of tags; a faker or fanatic of an artist 20 - 39: a small bandwidth of tags; a fanatic of a specific tag 40 - 59: a small bandwidth of tags; a fanatic of a few types of music 60 - 79: a substandard of bandwidth of tags 80 - 89: a balanced bandwidth of tags; a little below the average 90 - 99: a balanced bandwidth of tags; the golden mean 100 - 109: a balanced bandwidth of tags; a little above the average 110 - 129: a high bandwidth of tags 130 - 149: a very high bandwidth of tags; truly open minded above 150: an extremely high bandwidth of tags; an absolute freethinker and freak http://www.musickum.com/omi/ Mine used to be 151. I dunno what happened!

― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)
I've never thought about it before but saying BOOM BOOM to something funny is a bit odd - even for a cloth fox (try saying that with your dentures out)
― Tom D., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)
Wasn't there some old poem that a comedian(pre-war i think)used to add boom boom to at the end of every paragraph and it all came from that?
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)
Wasn't that Baldrick in Blackadder?
― onimo, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)
The Green Eye of the Yellow God' was originally a poem by Victorian balladeer J Milton Hayes. This poem was so extremely popular in its day that it became a standard recitation on the bills of 19th-century English music halls, much as 'Casey at the Bat' and 'Gunga Din' later became staples in American vaudeville theatres. Hayes's poem was so familiar to British theatre-goers that comedian Billy Bennett gleefully parodied it as 'The Green Tie of the Little Yellow Dog'. (Bennett was the first comedian who tagged his jokes with the exclamation 'Boom, boom!', leading the way to Basil Brush and to Johnny Carson's 'Ba-dump-ump'.)
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 11:41 (eighteen years ago)
Anyone actually heard that poem before?

Oi! Stop taking my name in vain. Even in the past. Will Carruthers is the only person allowed to call me "Boom".

I need a new job. I want to go into GEOPHYS. How do I become a, err, what do you call a person who does GEOPHYS? A Geophysicist? A Geophysician?
Does anyone post here any more? Ever?
Come on. Stone Circles! Tall Ships! Free Jazz! (no, not really) Wibbly wubbly stoner metal. Where is everyone?
My life is weird. I've been made redundant. I'm writing for Terrorizer. I'm doing a comic book with... Hilton Betelgeuse of all people.

Whoa!
Welcome home kate!

Hello! Yeah, my bastard former employees blocked ILX for being too rude. In web cafes, I can look at WHATEVER I LIKE. Even full colour lugubrious glossy nekkid pictures of Neil Oliver's pointy nose if I like. Not that there are any of those.
How's things?
What have I missed?
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 January 2008 14:35 (eighteen years ago)
Tempted to say: Nothing much.

Well maybe it's time to start a new thread and see who we can dig out of the woodwork.
― Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 January 2008 14:38 (eighteen years ago)
If you start throwing out random words, she will lose interest fast.
Possibly the funniest thread recently.
― Mark G, Friday, 4 January 2008 14:39 (eighteen years ago)
Oh yeah, start a 31 by all means. People probably thinking this one's just Hermann's perennial revive.
― Mark G, Friday, 4 January 2008 14:40 (eighteen years ago)
Hey kate! Missed you! *hugs*
Yeh, I'm with mark on the whole "Not missed much" thing. At least, not much nice things.
Writing for terrorizer? *double take*

New thread time:
UK Watercooler 31: Tony Robinson And His Time Team Found The Holy Grail In Somerset
Now I've got to go and poke Hilton Betelgeuse with a stick to get him to write some storylines. Sigh.
