Anything with over two distinct nominations is going into a big poll some time next week. You are unlimited as to how many threads you nominate. Ironic or abusive nominations will probably be ignored. Come! Let's go give that archive a good old dusting-down!

Yes, Matos's stepdad.
There was another one that made me laugh until tears and snot were pouring down my face, but I CAN'T REMEMBER what it was. Maybe it will come to me. Probably something with poop or farts. I am immature.

"so not gonna happen"

Also:

I wish I hadn't dug up that "trying to make friends" thread, I forgot what a bummer it was.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 7 September 2007 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

Seconding the rooftop jumper thread. Also would like to give props to the entire "Right-Wing Cartoonists" series, especially racial puppetry in right-wing comics, which starts with a pretty interesting post from Ethan.

Also, this poll needs more representative from the threads that aren't actually fun to read but capture mentalism and unnecessary vitriol at their best. I don't think I was around for a lot of the best of these, but I loved egging James Blount on as he baited the masses with class warfare and multivalent name-calling on Robert Polllard played his first solo show last night to a half empty crowd in Athens, GA. Alternately, the Stevie Ray Vaughan thread.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 7 September 2007 04:57 (eighteen years ago)

I will 2nd the set of rightwing cartoonist threads. Can they be included as a single set somehow?

OMNIPOTENT BABY!

And, of course:

Matt DC, Friday, 7 September 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to be mildly annoyed when the thread about Gear's roomate inevitably wins this poll - truly it is the Hey Ya of threads.

I think the most popular and fondly remembered threads are generally those revolving around one specific poster in a particular situation in real time. Eg "there's this cute girl in the library opposite me, how do I start talking to her?" "a car alarm keeps on going off outside my house" or "help there's a man in a trucker hat having anal sex with my roomate on my couch".

Matt DC, Friday, 7 September 2007 09:31 (eighteen years ago)

"banning of the avril thread" seconded.

The Manic Street Preachers thread on ILM where ally drops the hammer on c-man

"disturb the pillars of capitalism"

the ILM thread about not very good evening session bands.

"yiff me im furry"

Pashmina, Friday, 7 September 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but my thread went from high thrills (I met her by chance and actually went on a date with her) to a total anticlimax (we didn't really click with each other and nothing happened).

(x-post)

Tuomas, Friday, 7 September 2007 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

Trayce, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

I quite enjoyed the impersonations thread from a selfish point of view.

Most fun one this year was CJ's crush thread.

Dr.C, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

the ILM thread about not very good evening session bands.

Seconded. Also the Ethan and Jess (mainly) 'hits of the 90s' one that I can't find. There is a really good before-my-time Manic Street Preachers thread with a golden Calum meltdown and all my other favourites have all been listed already I think

DJ Mencap, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Great thread, particularly this gem from koogs:
still:
Wouldn't the sentence "I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign" have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after?

My other favourite genre of ILX thread is the intense passionate mass argument over something utterly inconsequential. Prime examples being:

Taking Sides: Another Think Coming v Another Thing Coming

Defend the Indefensible: British People Not Rinsing Soap Off the Dishes

Is pizza pie?

Why do British washing machines take two hours???

Matt DC, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

Haha nice one Matt. The thing/think thread I will second. That blew my mind.

Trayce, Friday, 7 September 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

In fact at the time it prompted an LJ post and my LJ post got heaps of OMG responses and arguing as well.

I was gonna mention the Yello/Kraftwerk/Chris Martin & Gwyneth Paltrow thread, but I thought that would've looked too self-aggrandizing, since I contributed heavily to it. However, now I can second the nomination.

I could never read the entire Madonna Janet thread which is part why it is so stupifying and a classic. This was one great post in the thread

the pressing question howevah: if I am in fact nasty but address Miss Jackson as "Janet," does she have any other tools at her disposal for determining whether I am nasty or not? Or does the whole proposition pivot on the assumption that the persons addressing her will be honest about their nastiness/non-nastiness? if so this is a pretty weak (albeit touchingly naive) method for assessing the relative nastiness of the applicant and new research is necessary

You could say the same for the 'living with gay pornographer' thread, although the fact that every other post is a breathless affirmation of the thread's 'top-ten potential' or whatnot is somewhat irritating.

That said, Sausade's post is probably enough to ensure its nomination.

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

no winning thread being from 2002-2004, no credibility

blueski, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

Wait so what are the rules of nomination here? It looks like a couple of threads have been rejected for no reason.

Can a list of what has been nominated, what has been seconded and what needs seconding be drawn up?

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

I'll do one when I'm not at work. Everything with two or more nominations is going into the poll, nowhere have I stated that a thread's being rejected (unless it's clearly ironic or abusive, natch).

Threads only NEED seconding if they deserve seconding, i.e. if more than one person deems it worthy of nomination!

Just got offed, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

(unless it's clearly ironic or abusive, natch).

If the nomination is ironic, agreed. As to abusive, some threads belong to the ages now and should be remembered.

As to 'deserving' seconding, fair point. A bit subjective but completely understandable.

kv_nol, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

If no one seconds the Missionary Position thread I will be sad.

Matt DC, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think seconding should be required. Most people at this point are just naming threads that haven't already been named and aren't going back to look over the whole list and determine which nominations they agree with.

Or how about this? I second everything that's been named so far. There.

jaymc, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, those are great! I would second a collective vote for them if that's the best we can do - but my favorites are the one about childrens' action-adventure cartoons (I think it's just called Stock Plots For Action-Adventure Cartoons), old movies generally, and suburban dens from the 80s.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:32 (eighteen years ago)

horseshoe, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

I remember when he was on the Daily Show (for like the 465th time) discussing Gen Y Cops!

horseshoe, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:05 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, don't know what went wrong with my links but THANK YOU THANK YOU to dell - how the hell did you find them? I swear to god "old movie" got me nowhere.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:15 (eighteen years ago)

shucks, it's all in a day's work.

But seriously, prayer, my brother, prayer.

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:26 (eighteen years ago)

Ah the Aussie soap thread was great :D

Trayce, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

Feel Like Making Lunch

The Reverend, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I dunno why the links you posted didn't work. Maybe the ILX Central Control Unit just happened to burp at that moment or something.

I found the "in every old movie ever" one by putting "movie" into the plain ol' ILX search engine, and then flipping through a dozen or so pages of results. I have fast eyeballs or something. It's one of my few talents in life.

I'm just glad that you and Ned were able to bring to mind the specific subjects of those threads. All I could recall was that the "in every X ever" ones were pretty great in general...which doesn't help search-wise!

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:35 (eighteen years ago)

Shucks. Let's hear it for ILX teamwork!

Having now read it, I second "In every coffee shop." ILXors write what they know. It's also one of the elite threads to sustain a multi-post revive as a result of THIS thread.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

in every coffeeshop seconded

roxymuzak, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

jergïns, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 06:53 (eighteen years ago)

I'll nominate this too:

In every Soviet bloc...

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, yeah, I too would like this to be an old-fashioned ILX poll, where people vote and provide blurbs via e-mail, and the winners are revealed one at a time. That makes it much more exciting.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

oh that would be graet!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:06 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but would never finish.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:10 (eighteen years ago)

Still, Tuomas thirded.

G00blar, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

No, Georgie's right. It's obvious to all of us that you have made your own championship belt.

Vintage.

That mong guy that's shit, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, yeah, I too would like this to be an old-fashioned ILX poll, where people vote and provide blurbs via e-mail, and the winners are revealed one at a time. That makes it much more exciting.

I INVENTED THIS SHIT AND DEMAND ROYATLIES

blueski, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait, the first one I wanted to make a comment that I don't think it should be there re. it being a personal attack thread.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

So I am NOT seconding BAN LOUIS JAGGER

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

I am!

wow!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

More srsly..

There seems to be a lot missing.

I haven't actually seconded anything.

I'd second "there's a guy on the roof" for a kickov.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

Where the hell is Jaggah? How dare his "real life" concerns impede the progress of this poll! Furthermore, I'm still confused as to whether threads need to actually be seconded in order to count in the final running. Cheers kv, though, that's some good compiling work you've done. Fook, I'll pitch in if need be. Though, I do agree that it should be an old-style poll, with a proper suspenseful countdown an' all.

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

And a Barry Normal style precis of content, style and direction of thread.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

hai!

Though, I do agree that it should be an old-style poll, with a proper suspenseful countdown an' all

We could always do it again, like you and a few others have suggested. For now, though, it's gonna be a straight shoot-out.

J-go, I love ya, god knows I do, but you're killing me with this insistence on the "straight shoot-out"

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

Would it be weird if the very name "ILX" was changed to "Ban 10uis J4gg3r"?

Ok, I guess it would be weird...

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

Moley, I think KV Nol was seconding those threads rather than listing all the threads that have been seconded.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa, and wait up! The "Down in the Tubestation" thread been missed? I definitely second that one!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

xpost ah! that makes sense. OK, well, anyway I second the tubestation one anyhow.

oh no, i've just spent over an hour compiling the piece de la resistance!

i think the way we'll do it is one big poll to start off with, then lots of spin-off polls to settle disputes.

Really, this time, you have about two minutes to raise objections while I straighten out some of the domain-names.
