I love me tats :)

*rumpie*, Friday, 7 September 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

You forgot "I have them, and I don't care whether or not you get any."

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

haha, that's good. I wouldn't necessarily recommend unless someone also wanted one. Also I don't consider it body art. I need a new one. It's about three years now. . .

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

That's the thing for me, too. I never recommend that anyone else get one -- it's a personal choice, and I really don't care if anyone else gets one.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

"I have them, and I don't care whether or not you get any."

Bingo.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Imagine what you'll look like when you're old and wrinkly?

You'll look old and wrinkly regardless of whether you have a tattoo! Also, tattoo comparison in the nursing home will be a fun activity of the future.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

xxpost

I've gotten to where I don't even like people asking about mine, what they mean etc. I used to like talking about them but they are really personal and I don't like dissecting it for strangers. I usually try to give a generic answer but sometimes they keep pushing for more and more detail. I should start making up random shit.

Yeah when I get old and wrinkly most of my peers will also have old and wrinkly tattoos. who cares?

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

lol @ the idea that i'm going to even make it to old and wrinkly

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 7 September 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I can vote in this poll. I don't have them and don't care whether or not you get any. I probably won't get one because I am afraid of Teh Pain. Also can't think of an image that I want on me permanently. That being said, I do have a scar on my back I'd like to cover...

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

(ha, but covering a scar might not be so easy, as Ally instructed me on Satuday night!)

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

I'd never get one but I like tasteful ones on others

some people pull them off! they would look reallly bad on me because i am too much of a nerd.

bell_labs, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

HAHAHA i was just about to post an explanation of why covering scars sometimes doesn't work, thank god someone remembers anything i said saturday :D

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Friday, 7 September 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Teh Pain is not worse than childbirth, Sara... if that helps. (I judge everything by that now... "well, it hurts less than having a baby...")

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

xpost I only wish I could have stayed to hear/see the rest of the party!

luna - okay, but how MUCH less...???

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

have a tattoo, mildly amused by it, mostly dont like tattoos, dont care if others get them

jhøshea, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

I think that's a very good measure Luna. (not that I've experienced it but I'm sure it's useful if you have.)

I kind of enjoy the pain. For one it cements the connection you have to the tattoo and what it represents in your life. Only my first tattoo was a random "oh that's pretty" one. The other seven are permanent reminders of events/things/people that are very important to me. The pain of getting it etches in this importance and makes it almost spiritual.

Sorry for getting almost "body art" on you there.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

Lots less, Sara. For me it was kind of like an extended cat scratch (and it also depends on where you get it.) It hurts, yeah, but not as much as the needle for the epidural did (I don't know if you had one, but that, for me, was the defining moment of pain in my life.) Also hurts less than breaking your arm.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

I have one and I like it but I would never call it "body art"

Jordan, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

I can't wait until octogenarians with tramp stamps are a common sight.

Madchen, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, please explain - what *is* a tramp stamp?

Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

LOL

Actually I find the needle is not really the most hurty part. It's when they wipe the blood off with a towel. Your skin is raw and bleeding and it's like they're scraping you with sandpaper. *That* sucks.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

tramp stamp also = cum catcher

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

kind of like an extended cat scratch

That's exactly what my sister said!

For me contractions were way more painful than the needle for the epidural. I think they gave me something to try to numb that needle, though and it still hurt - just less than contractions. Breaking my arm didn't bother me at all! (Also, I think I have easy labors.)

Sam, thanks for the explanation. Not too "body art." ;)

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Tramp stamp is a common way of referring to the lower back tattoo, Kate.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, the contractions sucked ass, you're right. It's less painful than that.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

I know a boy who has one of those! Does that mean he's a tramp? excellent!

Masonic Boom, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Your skin is raw and bleeding and it's like they're scraping you with sandpaper.

Okay, I'm too wimpy for sure!

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

That part has never bothered me (never felt it, never thought to notice it).

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

The pain ranges from pressing a fingernail into a sore mosquito bite to something a lot more "thrilling", as my dentist calls it. Depends on where on the body and the artist. My first one was small and I had expected it to be *much* more painful than it ended up. You can get a good adrenaline rush from it, which helps bring you into the moment.

When I see good work on someone I'll ask where they got it done. I adore my tattoos and am currently planning to get another one. I'd only advocate someone getting a tattoo if they want one but are a little scared of it (mostly from not knowing about the process).

xpost: whee! I'm officially a tramp!

patita, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

I think what it boils down to is not so much the pain or anything else you'll scare yourself with - it's all down to whether or not you really want one. If you do, you'll find a way to deal with the pain (take ibuprofen beforehand, eat candy during, take ibuprofen after are just some examples). I have found 98% of the time that people psych themselves up into thinking it's going to be the worst pain ever and come away thinking "you know, that wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be..."

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds like the pain issue is pretty individual. Hmmmmm.

luna - I kind of think "it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be" about natural childbirth (I didn't have anything w/my second because she came so fast). (All this being said, I still tell people "don't be afraid to go for the epidural!")

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

That part has never bothered me (never felt it, never thought to notice it).

Maybe that's only with the 4-hour type jobs. . .

Yeah what Luna said about the pain is right. It only lasts for a little while and what you get in return lasts a lifetime. Not a bad tradeoff.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe that's only with the 4-hour type jobs. . .

That could very well be. None of mine have lasted longer than 2 1/2 so far, so that is very possibly why.

I want a new one, too - my tattoo guy is supposed to be here sometime this month from Hawaii, so I'm hoping to see him this time.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

luna - I kind of think "it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be" about natural childbirth

Yep, that makes sense. It's sort of the same kind of thing in that it's a fear of the unknown -- you haven't done it before, so you have no idea how bad it will or won't be. Also, when it's over, it's kind of a relief.

luna, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

You forgot "I have them, and I don't care whether or not you get any."

That would be I have tattoos but I wouldn't recommend them because since you don't care whether someone gets one, why would you recommend it?

Will M., Friday, 7 September 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I've heard a different one for tramp stamp, but I forget what it was now...

Will M., Friday, 7 September 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

To me, "I wouldn't recommend them" makes it sound like my experience was so terrible that I would urge all and sundry to stay well away, which is why I said what I did.

Michael White, Friday, 7 September 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

still no. it was basically "tramp stamp" except the rhyme was different... i could be remembering something non-existent, though.

slag tag is good but I think ass antlers is the best for that particular style.

Sara R-C, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

Don't men say that? They're just trying to keep up.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

Not to offend anyone, as I know a lot of people get tattoos for personal reasons, but I don't get when people come in on LA Ink and are like "I am getting a pin-up girl on my arm to remember my mom/how happy I am right now/new career/the Alamo/etc." Everyone has their little personal story on that show...it makes me feel weird like if I were to get one all I could say would be (for example): "Oh, I just got this tattoo of nachos because I like to eat nachos," or, "I just thought this was a neat image." Do people expect you to say, "Yeah, I got this horse because I could never own a horse, but they also represent courage, majesty, and grace" when they ask about your tats?

Abbott, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

People should expect a slap in the face when they ask you about your tats. It's seriously annoying.

kenan, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

When people (strangers) ask me about my tats I want to tell them to fuck off b/c it's really none of their business.

I do believe those shows require some sort of story to make it interesting television. Some are probably more shallow than others.

My boyfriend says he wants to go on there and get a tat of a cock and balls just because. I reminded him that Steve-o has no doubt already done this.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

I think Miss Manners would be against it. "I would prefer you didn't ask. But I just happened to like this clip art of Abraham Lincoln kicking a tire. That is all." (My friend had great tat of such.)

xp

Abbott, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

Then there are people who are more than happy to explain their tats whether you want to know or not: "I got this tattoo of Kermit holding a cross because I love KERMIT and I love JESUS."

Abbott, Friday, 7 September 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

I have many clever and exciting ideas for tattooing myself. I am also a big wussy who is scared of needles.

Oilyrags, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

Everyone has their little personal story on that show...it makes me feel weird like if I were to get one all I could say would be (for example): "Oh, I just got this tattoo of nachos because I like to eat nachos," or, "I just thought this was a neat image."

This is basically what I do. I think something is interesting, ponder it for a while, then get a tattoo. Not as a joke or anything, but there's no real deep significance to any of mine. Like this one, my most recent:

http://www.hu.mtu.edu/~jlkuure/board/30.jpg

I just thought it'd be funny to have a tattoo of an old-timey bike.

I don't think they really hurt that much. Some hurt more than others - insides of upper arms and my elbow hurt the most so far, but I've heard ribs are worse. I get a crazy endorphin rush which kind of numbs the pain anyway (and makes me super goofy afterwards). The worst part is when you think you're done and they go back and fill in missed spots or tweak things, going over spots for a second or third time after letting it sit untouched for a while.

And most people I know with tattoos don't care others have them or not, it's just not a big deal.

joygoat, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

If you have someone else do it, they can use professional equipment instead of the sewing needly you'd have to use yourself.

xp

Abbott, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

xpost to Oilyrags-Again-it doesn't hurt. The needles make pretty superficial cuts. The gauge on the needle is nearly infinitesimal.

"People should expect a slap in the face when they ask you about your tats. It's seriously annoying."

This has never bothered me. Then again, none of mine have any spectacular backstories. There are even a couple I can't for the life of me remember getting.

Bill Magill, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Then there are people who are more than happy to explain their tats whether you want to know or not: "I got this tattoo of Kermit holding a cross because I love KERMIT and I love JESUS."

My brother-in-law met a dude with a tattoo on his arm of Alan Thicke with a word balloon coming out of his mouth containing the phrase "FUCK OHIO". He said he got it because he loves Alan Thick and hates Ohio.

joygoat, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

I don't mind compliments ("nice colors!") or inquiries like "where did you get that done?" But when they ask what it means and I give them a general answer ("It's a tribute to a friend") I hate it when they start pushing for details.

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

My stepson was showing us his newest tattoo (he and gf got matching ones which are basically orphan annie eyes on their hands so they can do the senior wences thing, wtf?) and was saying never again, because DAMN, IT HURT! He's got a beautiful one covering his shoulder and this giant ? on his back (that he saw in a dream), so maybe they hurt more as you get older?

Jaq, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

hands would fucking hurt like hell. (back or front?)

Ms Misery, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

> it doesn't hurt

That's not the point. It's a phobia, not a rational response. Flu injections don't hurt either, not really, but I can't even watch it on tv, I have to turn away and I clench up involuntarily anyway.

Oilyrags, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

It's like that side bit directly across from your thumb (xpost) Sort of like the side of the lowest joint on your index finger and then just past the knuckle. Then when you close your hand, your thumb is senior wences lower lip and jaw.

Jaq, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

(Oilyrags, I hear you - I walked into the grocery once and they were giving flu shots RIGHT THERE, and I collapsed)

Jaq, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

Ms Misery: "It's a tribute to a friend" seems like an answer that encourages probing, so if you don't want people to press, you should probably phrase it another way!

Will M., Friday, 7 September 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

right, like, "It's none of your fucking business."

kenan, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

Again-it doesn't hurt.

I think this is a little misleading - it may not hurt YOU, but there is no way on god's green earth that there is no pain involved at all for anyone.

Best comeback to nosy question ever - My students ask me if I have any kids I reply completely straight faced "Just the ones buried in my backyard." hahaha

I like that answer.

I didn't make any extra effort to cover them up. The particularly liked the big colorful one on my arm. Some would want to draw it. It was no big deal for me too have tattoos while teaching. Some of their parents I met would have cat claws on their boobs or ghetto gang tats up and down their arms.

I want a tattoo so bad, but the only one that I've wanted long enough that I'm comfortable going through with it is going to be impossible to find.

Clarification: It's the very first picture Eadward Muybridge took that showed a horse with all four hooves off the ground in full gallop. He didn't publish the damn thing in "Animal Locomotion". It might, might, be in an issue of Field Magazine from 1875, but aside from that, I'll have to find the original glass plate (pretty much impossible) if I want it.

my friend has a wedding ring tattooed on his ring finger, he said it was tolerable. Heck they all hurt, by far the worst one i got was the swallows tattooed on my chest...6 hours of intense pain.

definatelypoopsmcgee (chrisv2010), Thursday, 14 October 2010 14:53 (fourteen years ago)

The first tattoo I got I was in a lot of pain because I was holding in uncomfortable amounts of gas the whole time (3-4 hours). I didn't realize I could have asked the guy to pause for a moment so I could take care of it.

I'm thinking inside of my elbow, above the fold so that it's covered by a short sleeve t-shirt for the most part.

I'm pretty sure I'll never have a job where arm tattoos would be an issue (couldn't be covered with a shirt), but I think it would give my 86yo grandfather a heart attack

mh, Monday, 14 March 2011 05:57 (fourteen years ago)

thoughts on tattoos seen thru chest hair?

if you get a chest piece but chest hair grows over some of it, is this:

a) maybe a lil awkward looking but no big deal either way
b) VERY ugly, DO NOT WANT
c) sorta masculine and, er, "classic"
d) hawt

I've seen this work really well with certain kind of sailor-ish/USMC-ish designs, and I've seen it look really awful too. What say ye? I'm neither pro nor con about tattoos- I have six of them myself and like them when they're well done, but lots of the tattoos that I see out in the world are really tacky and awful. But I can't make up my mind about this tattoo + body hair issue.

the tune is space, Monday, 14 March 2011 06:21 (fourteen years ago)

The shading and perspective on that are amazing!
agreed, but that's what makes it so scary.

C, usually, depending on amount of hair. If it's a rug, then maybe a.

Jesse, Monday, 14 March 2011 12:23 (fourteen years ago)

like this dude's combo of chest hair and tattoo works for me:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lh6id07xzA1qzw3gpo1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1300203699&Signature=R8Mss5FKixwQ6iKWyzEJacjpIfg%3D

(but that has more to do with him and the angle and lighting of the photo, than the chest hair/tatt combo itself)

but I've also seen "hairy tattoos" look really horrible, like what-were-you-thinking bad

the tune is space, Monday, 14 March 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

I think it looks good b/c of the light density of the hair over the tattoo.

No, I getcha, and I will try to remember to post a followup- I don't have a lot of chest hair, and what grows is mostly above the area where the tattoo is, so it will only be over the top of the image- hope it doesn't look weird, as I don't want to shave it

oh, and DAMN the sternum is a painful area to get tatted, I have had tatts in other places but whoah, this was kind of excruciating I gotta say

When I saw the pic that's what I was going to say; getting your sternum tattooed sucks. I have a chest tattoo that covers most of my left pec, and when he hit the sternum it felt like he was tattooing my throat. Thought I was going to be sick, etc. I guess that puts me in the "I have tattoos but I wouldn't recommend them", at least I'd never recommend anywhere near the sternum.

CraigG, Saturday, 23 April 2011 13:58 (fourteen years ago)

Is sternum tattooing more of a dull sort of pain?

I always thought I was tough or other people were whiners b/c I had gotten four tattoos, none of which hurt - I described the feeling as just kind of annoying, like a minor rug burn. Those tattoos are on my shoulder, outer upper arms, and hip. Then I got one on my inner upper arm/armpit and that fucker hurt so bad I almost cried. It was a sharp, searing, stinging pain.

a giant and leaky bag of mayhem (Jesse), Saturday, 23 April 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

Looks like someone works out . . . er, that is to say, nice tattoo placement!

Virginia Plain, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

thanks! I am hoping that the placement makes me work out more, but my job doesn't give me a lot of time to do that

xpost re pain

I guess everybody's pain scale is different, I have never broken a bone or given birth so i can't compare it with those pain milestones, but I found that the sternum was much more painful than the tattoos I have on my biceps, stomach, ankle, and hips. It wasn't a different *kind* of pain- it was that same sorta cat-scratch-meets-cigarette-burn kind of feeling, but just a much more intense version of it. At times I was just scrunching up my face, not able to breathe, with my mouth wide open and no sound coming out, just kind of looking like a demented Butoh dancer dude or something. You know you're being a total wuss when the tattoo artist keeps saying "you're doing great" in that fake reassurance voice . . .

the tune is space, Saturday, 23 April 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

the sternum hurts, yes, but does it hurt as much as the ribcage? my Wojnarowicz tat was excruciating, and it only took like 15 minutes. i was drenched in sweat and nearly hyperventilating by the end of it.

You'll look old and wrinkly regardless of whether you have a tattoo!

Old, wrinkly with a bunch of silly tattoos. I don't know, I like'em a lot on young people. But not so much when it's on a 70 year old person. Especially when it's faded. Meh. As I said, I quite like some tattoos. But I hate the small ones, or the ones on legs or like the woman at the clothes' shop today. On her finger. I mean, seriously, wtf is up with those random little ones?

Rimbaud tattoo is AWESOME. I mean, seriously, how much better can you get?

re: earlier in the thread - I understand people being frustrated by strangers asking about their tattoos, I suppose, but I have tattooed hands and am asked about them a couple times a month ... and I'd feel like an absolute asshole if I brushed people off or got pissed about it. They're tattoos on my hands - if I wanted to make a big secret about it, I'd put them somewhere else. Of course people are going to ask. I'd feel like the kid who doesn't want anyone to notice him but wears a Superman cape and moon boots to school.

third-generation stripper (Eric H.), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 04:50 (fourteen years ago)

it's kind of an in joke between us, as Martin and I were supposed to get matching tattoos on our ankles ten years ago (of the number .23 in a weird old font taken from a coat check ticket used in a Kurt Schwitters collage) and i got mine and he didn't because he saw how much pain I was in and chickened out. So I have that on my right ankle, and ten years later, I got another Martin-oriented tattoo on the other ankle in the same place, same size . . .

third-generation stripper (Eric H.), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

No, I would say that the sternum has hurt me the most- but see tabes upthread about the ribcage, he said that hurt more.

I think you should just get a tattoo on the place on your body where you want one and not think about the pain part. The pain is temporary and the art is what counts.

the tune is space, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 05:27 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, doing arm(s), regardless of the predominate lack of pain thereon.

third-generation stripper (Eric H.), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

I just got the second to last part of my half sleeve done a couple weeks ago and it shot "over your collarbone" to the top of the most painful list. Other things have hurt to some degree but this one actually felt really unpleasant and I didn't get enough of an endorphin rush to counteract how much it hurt.

Pain goes away and it's always worth it.

I got one on the inside of my ankle a couple months ago and I swear that I didn't hurt at all. It sort of . . . tickled? I was sitting up and watching and everything and the guy kept asking if I was OK and it really was. It hurt way less than my others which are all on my back and had me in tears. Yes I especially loved this part:

But at the end of the day, are you really a happier person? Has this tattoo, for instance, caused you to learn something new about yourself? Has it challenged you? Has it led you to self-growth? Nothing comes out of getting a tattoo. You get a tattoo, and that's it.

But at the end of the day, are you really a happier person? Has this Belle and Sebastian cd, for instance, caused you to learn something new about yourself? Has it challenged you? Has it led you to self-growth? Nothing comes out of getting a Belle and Sebastian cd. You get a piece of morose bland music, and that's it.

tbh I marked great changes in my life with some wicked scars and a police record so tattoos seem not bad

mh, Thursday, 2 February 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)

I was in therapy for a long time and we talked about tattoos at one point and my therapist (not herself the tattooed type at all) gave her take on them, which is that each tattoo is sort of a picture of who you were at the time you got it. thinking of them this way is really rewarding and rich to me, they're kind of more honest & direct & richer than say diary entries.

...you won't find yourself in a rut when your future grandkids ask you what's up with the angel wings on your upper back as you're in the middle of giving them a life lesson on the importance of values and morals.

God knows the last thing this world needs is another generation of kids questioning their basic values and morals.

I usually think of "questioning" as "examining" and not taking for granted, so I'm disagreeing w/ her here.

And anyway, why are you giving your grandkids lessons on morals with your top off.

garbage corn fan (Je55e), Thursday, 2 February 2012 04:38 (thirteen years ago)

each tattoo is sort of a picture of who you were at the time you got it

I remember exactly where I was and what I was thinking when I got each of mine. All my tattoos were pondered for a long time to some degree and seeing them reminds me of what it was that made me finally say DO IT and actually get a particular thing tattooed on me.

I've never been one for journals or diaries but tattoos are a daily permanent reminder of what I valued aesthetically (and philosophically, I guess) at points in my life, what decisions I made and if they turned out to be good ones, and makes me think about what I decided to get and what I discarded as bad ideas and how I should deal with other such things in the future.

joygoat, Thursday, 2 February 2012 04:43 (thirteen years ago)

Exactly, which is why I think that the un-sarcastic answer to these questions

But at the end of the day, are you really a happier person? Has this tattoo, for instance, caused you to learn something new about yourself? Has it challenged you? Has it led you to self-growth?

is, Yes, in a way.

I used to write down my thoughts all day long in what I guess was a journal (now I have ILX and FB for that*) and just like photographs interact with those written memories, so do tattoos.

I was in a rednecky bar in the middle of nowhere back when I had my septum pierced and it made everyone either want to beat me up or come up to me and show me all about their tattoos.

One was a woman who was very, very much like buttattoo girl (other than the butthole tattoo, at least to my knowledge). She had a terrible tattoo of a witch stirring a cauldron on her arm with SHADY LADY under it, and one of her son's name that she refused to show me because it was spelled wrong.

i haven't had one in 22 years -- was talking to a friend about getting slice of watermelon tattoos -- then i thought, a slice of watermelon tramp stamp would be kinda awesome -- then i thought -- that might give ppl the impression that i was super into anal ... (which I'm not) ... my friend says i'm overthinking this, but I disagree, as it is pretty permanent

sarahell, Friday, 13 September 2019 21:16 (five years ago)

Thank you! Those aren’t butt bruises btw I think they’re ink smudges or something lol. It’s edelweiss and Erica flowers. The artist was great and I’m really pleased.

Wait is there some anal/watermelon connection I’m missing?

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Friday, 13 September 2019 21:19 (five years ago)

i mean, it's a food item that is juicy and that you eat -- maybe it's just me, but if you had a tattoo of watermelon near your butt, I would think, that person might be into ass-play? ... inner thigh might be better?

sarahell, Friday, 13 September 2019 21:27 (five years ago)
