wtf?

The whole point of the thread was to lay out the same shit that people always say about each other so they would hopefully recognize it was tired and stop saying it in favor of more interesting stuff. Instead it's just people really trying but failing to insult each other or "jokingly" zinging their friends as a way to passively air their grievances.

But apparently I am "self-righteous, esp. w/r/t his own threads" so carry on.

When Jaymc she was just 18
Married a boy so peachy keen
She thought 'Hey hey, hey hey hey
Now my life is complete

Jaymc thought she'd love her man
Just as she had planned
But she thought 'Hey hey, hey hey hey
A bird in the bush is worth a man in the hand

Chorus:
Jaymc is a lesbian
Jaymc is a lesbian
Jaymc is a lesbian now

Jaymc met her at a dance
Wallet chain and combat pants
She thought 'Hey hey, hey hey hey
Now I've found romance

But Jaymc's world was at and end
Saw her girl with a boyfriend
She thought 'Hey hey, hey hey hey
It's not a lifestyle, it's a fashion trend

There was a sexual revolution
But nobody heard
A girl who likes girls
Is still a dirty word
She could have just rebelled in the usual way
But she heard Lesbians are chic
And drugs are passe

this thread was fun.

bell_labs, Thursday, 20 September 2007 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

This thread has made me decide I'm leaving for a while. Bye y'all.

Trayce, Thursday, 20 September 2007 02:12 (eighteen years ago)

the thread concept is inherently flawed because if you go and read the noize bored you will see that the ZING thread and POSTS VERY MUCH IN CHARACTER thread are actually two seperate entities which attempt to serve distinct purposes - so the first several posts to this one are actually just functional summaries of typical reposts that appear on the latter, not the former. PVMIC reposts usually consist of a single statement while ZING reposts are usually of a transaction between two or more parties.

Although this thread does do a pretty decent job of illustrating the vastly different definitions various ILX subgroups have assigned to the term "zing," which is in itself a pretty nice demonstration of how the tower of babel would have likely failed even if everybody involved had spoken the same language to begin with.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 September 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

The contentiousness and anger inspired by such a simple semantic boondoggle does suggest that several posters would likely be better off imitating Trayce's model through the remainder of the working week.

I used to know this alcoholic dude who once went on such an enomormous binge passed out and woke up ten hours later covered in his own piss and shit and had this sudden and crushing moment of self-awareness that had previously eluded him and was so ashamed he had to go and drink the shame away. This thread is a bit like that.

Except the Jagger bits, then you can cross out the 'self-awareness' bit.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 September 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

(Also, hilarious)

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 September 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

Except the Jagger bits, then you can cross out the 'self-awareness' bit.

Do you mean I have no self-awareness, or my baiters? If (as seems likely) the former, then you've rushed to judgement, and your inaccurate criticism is nothing more than a lazy, lazy zing.

That mong guy that's shit, Thursday, 20 September 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

B- for kenan, and it's never 'importance' I want, it's clearing my name of fuckheaded judgement after some cunt (maybe Ned T :D, maybe N/A, maybe you kenan) has picked up on a trivial or whimsical aside of mine and turned it into a 'devastating' character-assassination. I can roll with the zings (lol poppers etc), but these self-righteous pronouncements are beyond the pale.

Mr. Que, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

Well they're building a gallows outside my cell I've got 25 minutes to go
And the whole town's waitin' just to hear me yell I've got 24 minutes to go
Well they gave me some beans for my last meal I've got 23 minutes to go
But nobody asked me how I feel I've got 22 minutes to go
Well I sent for the governor and the whole dern bunch with 21 minutes to go
And I sent for the mayor but he's out to lunch I've got 20 more minutes to go
Then the sheriff said boy I gonna watch you die got 19 minutes to go
So I laughed in his face and I spit in his eye got 18 minutes to go
Now hear comes the preacher for to save my soul with 13 minutes to go
And he's talking bout' burnin' but I'm so cold I've 12 more minutes to go
Now they're testin' the trap and it chills my spine 11 more minutes to go

[25 Minutes To Go lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]
And the trap and the rope aw they work just fine got 10 more minutes to go
Well I'm waitin' on the pardon that'll set me free with 9 more minutes to go
But this is for real so forget about me got 8 more minutes to go
With my feet on the trap and my head on the noose got 5 more minutes to go
Won't somebody come and cut me loose with 4 more minutes to go
I can see the mountains I can see the skies with 3 more minutes to go
And it's to dern pretty for a man that don't wanna die 2 more minutes to go
I can see the buzzards I can hear the crows 1 more minute to go
And now I'm swingin' and here I go-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o!

nah, about the same, really. Both took down a whole friggin' city and had a small death toll, required a lot of rebuilding, added to the "character" of the city, etc. Chicago's was way more recent, though.

Do you mean I have no self-awareness, or my baiters? If (as seems likely) the former, then you've rushed to judgement, and your inaccurate criticism is nothing more than a lazy, lazy zing.

i'm trying to think of how scrabble can work metaphorically

ken c, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

Heard "za" for the first time from a guy from ... Pennsylvania, I think -- my high-school debate coach in Michigan. "Let's get some za." It sounds REALLY dumb when you actually say it, in part because it's actually way more effort to say than "pizza." You can't just say "za," you have to kind of dwell on it in a really dumb way, kind of the way a really dopey stoner might say "let's get some weeeeeeed."

nabisco, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

eh you would have to stew the goat 1st then when you cooked the pizza brazing liquid would all run out on the cheese and give you hed aids

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, it's like you're trying to be on a first-name basis with pizza, like it's this awesome thing you're totally down with.

nabisco, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

it's way more effort because after you say it you have to repeat like like "hey let's get some za"
"get some what?"
"za"
"wtf is a za?"
"it's a pizza without the piz in it"
"oh, za"
*pisses on someone's face*

ken c, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

you know who called pizza "za"?? My stoner roommate from CT, freshman year. When he needed the room one night because he had a girl over, instead of saying "I need the room b/c Natalie's coming over," he said, "I need the room tonight, Natalie's gonna smoke my salmon."

Mr. Que, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

Will M., Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

I still can't believe this is a thing! maybe people have been saying "za" to me for years and I've just smiled and nodded like when you can't hear what someone's saying but you don't have the energy to endlessly ask them to repeat it.

horseshoe, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

i've actually only ever heard one guy say "'za". It was this middle-aged "blind" guy who lived across the street from us one summer during college. I put blind in quotes b/c his college-age housemates claimed to have seen him playing darts in the middle of the night or something like that. Anyhow, he invited my friends and I to got get some "'za" with him. I don't know. 'Twas freaky shit and didn't help that we were taking lotsa drugs that summer.

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

"Psst, man, do you party?"
"Umm, yeah, I guess?"

"Huh?"
"You wanna do some ZA? I got a whole pie, man, primo ZA."

No, this is true. Guy was weird, and would pretend like he needed help crossing the street, and pray upon my weirdly-naive female housemate. The whole time, though, I oould tell that something was not adding up.

Then at times, he would come over and ask to use our phone, and ask someone to dial a number for him, and then proceed to have an obviously completely faked conversation with his "mom" (i.e., a dial tone)

Wrong. You call it that when you make hundreds and thousands of pizzas and you're hot and sweaty and your arms are burned and you never want to see another circle of dough, sauce, and cheese ever again but for some reason you keep the job because it pays for college books and rent and beer.

Me too, Horseshoe, but my reasons for liking him have changed, actually. It used to be simply because he was CUET and a smartass, but now it's because he's CUET and a smartass and frequently plays the only character who stops talking long enough to actually DO anything, even if it's basically unscrupulous.

I tried to make my little sister like Kicking & Screaming the summer after she graduated college a year ago, but yeah. she was not moved. she also refers with a frightening degree of familiarity to hilary duff's changing hairstyles, so I think the difference in our years has come between us.
