Mark G, Wednesday, 9 January 2008 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

I assign a basketball player to my age to help me remember. Last year was Larry Bird. This year is Magic Johnson.

To all you 24-year olds out there, those two men used to play basketball in the NBA for Boston and Los Angeles, respectively.

I think people go the in here uni/college later than in most countries. I started there at 21, which is not uncommon at all. Admittedly, I've spent over 7 years there now, but I've also changed my major two times, and these days I'm working 20 hours a week, so my graduation has kinda been postponed.

whoa, Sabotage and Neptune... was the former a game where you had to avoid spotlights or get shot, and the atter a game where you had ot plant bombs on "nodes"?

Will M., Thursday, 10 January 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

...while scuba diving and avoiding sharks and other scuba divers with guns or something?

Will M., Thursday, 10 January 2008 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

I suspect these were both computer knock-offs of actual arcade games:

Sabotage = you have a central gun turret; helicopters fly by and drop little paratroopers; if four paratroopers reach the ground on either side, they form a tiny human pyramid and blow up your turret

Neptune = you are in a little undersea submarine (more like a spaceship) going through caves, some of which get narrow and you have to steer all crazy; you have a straight-ahead gun and a bomb-drop that arcs out the back like poop; there are undersea enemies; there are little thingies for either gas or oxygen (can't remember) which you have to shoot to not run out of said thing

how do you get pass the gate that kills you as you walk past?

HOLY CRAP WHY DO I REMEMBER THIS: you come out of the run and go into your fighting crouch, then advance ever so slowly, ever so slowly, until your toe touches the line and the gate slams down, but AHA, you have nudged back, and now as the gate rises back up, slowly, you run through

Either (a) that works, or (b) I thought that would work and kept trying it but never actually got it to work

I'm sure there's a pocket of the elderly, and possibly some centurians lurking....

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Sunday, 20 January 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

I think we can safely assume that the 5 answers in their 90s and the one answer of 100 were fraudulent. The percentage of the population that reach age 90 or above is quite small and only a tiny percentage of those who do would find ILE worth their while.

That leaves three suspect, but remotely plausible answers of 78, 77 and 69. The answer of 69 is too obviously a lol and needs to be tossed. I would not be so cavalier with the other two, if only because of the enduring Google bait of the "TS: Olivia de Haviland vs. Joan Fontaine" thread, which may well have attracted some older folks as lurkers on ILE.

I invite the people who clicked those ages to come forward, either to receive their well-merited congratulations or to confess to their perfidy.
