Had to go with Peanut Butter Patty, can't eat just one. I'm eating one of the new lo-cal ones right now, cinna-spins.

Some of these I've seen before. . All Abouts? Yes, please.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

never seen, duh.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

The names in parens are the older ones, I think? But they're a tad bit "culturally insensitive", maybe...since the "Samoans" are the cookies with coconut, y'see...the other two, I dunno where their names come from.

Laurel, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Your fave?

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

The names depend on which of the 2 authorized bakeries made them iirc. Do the local counsels get to set their own prices? Because 2 years ago, I paid $5/box (last time I will ever buy any).

Jaq, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

or erm, councils...

Jaq, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Holy crap. . .I hate even buying them at $3.50.

They should give you a sticker like "I voted" that way once you buy some you can wave it at future cookie pushers to get off the hook.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

The 47-year-old retarded woman with the 120db horse-laugh at work sells girl scout cookies. You can't really say no to her.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

peanut butter

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Peanut butter really does not belong in anything that's more sweet than it is savory.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

THIN MINTS!

kate78, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

remy bean, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

& samoa

remy bean, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

Peanut butter really does not belong in anything that's more sweet than it is savory.

Cultural divide rears it head. I really can't imagine any savory application of peanut butter which I would savor.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

one of my favorite desserts ever - peanut butter between two ritz crackers, with the whole thing covered in chocolate.

Jordan, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

great sweet + salty mix

Jordan, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

Do you dip the sandwich into melted chocolate or just mash it all together as with a smore?

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

it was from a candy shop in new orleans so it was already all pro-dipped.

Jordan, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

Samoas. I buy boxes of these every year and keep them in the freezer. Soooooo good.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

Pro-dipped is definitely better than amateur-ly dipped.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Cultural divide rears it head. I really can't imagine any savory application of peanut butter which I would savor.

I make a really killer sweet potato soup with tomatoes and peppers and curry, and the secret ingredient is peanut butter.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

they're a tad bit "culturally insensitive", maybe...since the "Samoans" are the cookies with coconut

Samoans should be bloody HONORED to have such a delicious thing named after them.

kenan, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

Samoans! Every year it is so fun and neat to get the Dryer's Samoan ice cream (annual release).

Selling cookies is hell though, I can say as a former girl scout. Like pretty much your parents have to work in a big fucking office where they guilt all their coworkers into buying their daughter's $$$ cookies. My dad was a freelance house roofer and therefore could only have tried to sell cookies to things like air compressors, shingles and nail guns, and as everyone knows those things neither eat nor use currency. I went door to door in the winter until I sold just enough cookies to get to go to the annual Downata Water Park trip (which I did not enjoy). Took me 3 days of tromping in the snow to sell that many cookies!

Abbott, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

Girl scouts was really lame. The only reason I joined was because my brother in boy scouts (cub scouts then) got to do rad shit like scuba dive and play with fire. But in girl scouts we did things like making macramé plant holders and lacy tissue box cozies. What a disappointment it was.

Abbott, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Oh libcrypt, could I get that recipe? It sounds fucking amazing.

Abbott, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Recipe emailed to you Abbs.

thin mints.. frozen.

sanskrit, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

omg Thin Mints.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

I am a big wasted Girl Scout marking opportunity -- offer me those Samoas and I will pay gladly, any time

nabisco, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

i would gladly buy some patties and thin mints, but i have no cookie hookup in the office! everyone is early 30s or under, so no one has any girl scouts to shill for. this was not a problem in any other office i've worked in.

Jordan, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

I read that as "I would gladly buy some panties and thin mints"

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Do they not hustle in front of grocery stores where you live? They are unavoidable there. No one I work with is childed.

Bonita Applebum, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

thin mints.. frozen.

otm!

i love samoas too (can't bring myself to call them caramel delites), but i have 2 or 3 cookie limit with those. thin mints i eat by the sleeve.

tipsy mothra, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

I will eat an entire box of Samoas if left to my own devices.

Also would love to get libcrypt's recipe... sounds awesome.

akm, Thursday, 31 January 2008 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

I could eat a million thin mints. I'm lucky girl scout cookies are so expensive or I would end up looking like Jabba the Hut.

tagalongs in a landslide

i noticed yesterday that an auto service station had a handwritten sign up that read "GIRL SCOUT COOKIES" with an arrow toward the back. i want to investigate, but i also don't want to go in alone in case it's a plot to lure hapless cookie lovers to their grisly deaths.

I'm sampling these right now. My all-time favorite is the shortbread -- so good with a cup of coffee. Do not like the thin mints. They can fuck off -- I should sell them back. Samoas are delish. I'm eating a few more of these. Tagalongs (peanut butter patties) are goood. A bit rich, but whatever. Peanut Butter Cremes are nothing special.

I'M SORRY BUT SOMOAS ARE THE GREATEST COOKIE OF ALL TIME

---
don't even know what to think when i see girl scouts @ public places selling cuteness cookies. They just recently made their presence at uni.. and for whatever reason, I feel this morally wrong. I really have no idea how to explain it. I just saw them and went "wow, they really should not be here"

and shit it's not like this is community college or anything. i guess it's just being in such a ambience of raging sexuality/hormones all day long... and then seeing some v innocent kids wearing "tag-a-long" jerseys & running around, chasing eachother... just kinda gave me a When Worlds Collide vibe, I guess.

i get girl scout cookies every year, i've gradually narrowed it down to just do-si-do's

i tried the savanna smiles this year, they are dry and light enough to work well as a "dunk in your tea" cookie but i found the lemon flavor too sharp, acidic and artificial for my liking.

if you open a pack and let them sit too long they start to taste like lemonheads

otm. girl scouts website says cookies don't have transfats but it looks to me like they do from looking at the ingredients list??

flagp∞st (dayo), Sunday, 4 March 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)

you can saturate an unsaturated fat without ending up with a trans fat

so they are made in the same way as they make trans fats but they keep them from ending up "trans"

it is hard to get into the details w/o busting out the organic chemistry

the late great, Sunday, 4 March 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)
