n/a, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

4. don't have to endure questions about relative hotness of celebrities anymore

Ronan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

Oh boy, this thread probably isn't good for me to keep reading.
How long until the bitterly unloved begin to protest?

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

5. is attached to my wrist and never complains

DG, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

bell_labs, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

6. Wants nothing more on V Day than to get Chinese food and rent horror movies.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

But naturally detractors of the holiday would show up here, no?

I really have no business in this one, so I'll just go away...

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah sure, detractors are welcome
i just wanted to brag about getting to have steak made for me ANY TIME I WANT. because that is the awesomest thing i have ever heard.

bell_labs, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

infinite supply of steak sounds...suspicious.

IT'S MADE OF PEOPLE

n/a, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, steak & BJ day is March 14th

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

So I lied.

Yeah congrats on the steak business. That's still the best one listed so far and could really only be topped by the addition of "wrapped in bacon" (and I suppose the aformentioned BJ thing, but those are just expected on ocasion).

And for clarity's sake I'm not a detractor. Though I am bitter because I almost have a valentine.

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

I'm kickass at spell.

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 14 February 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

i will mark the steak and bj day on my calendar, i think i remember hearing about this last year...

16. she took a 1/2day off to get w33d, rent movies, make me a feast of tapas that includes wine tasting. but doesn't want any presents or flowers and shit

carne asada, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

He gave me a lovely diamond necklace. This was a surprise and I believe was given to make up for the lack of engagement ring that I've half-expected over the past couple of holidays. And the standard roses.

He would grill steaks tonight but I've told him I have plans for our dinner.

Then we are watching LOST.

Bonita Applebum, Thursday, 14 February 2008 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah Lost tonight! perfect

carne asada, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

she took a 1/2day off to get w33d, rent movies, make me a feast of tapas that includes wine tasting. but doesn't want any presents or flowers and shit

19. we're going for the second night in a row to see this robots exhibit at the kennedy center, then going for the second night in a row to eat delicious pizza and drink dogfish head world wide stout, then we're gonna do an alt-weekly crossword puzzle on the train ride back to her place for the second night in a row

69, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

did you get that last part signed in blood?

Haha, this was our agreement too (no gifts) and I was perfectly fine with that. (He's been hinting too much lately about a Wii and I'd rather spend that kind of money on myself.)

The necklace truly surprised me given our agreement and I feel a bit bad. Some non-standard sex will probably have to happen this week.

Bonita Applebum, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

then we're gonna do an alt-weekly crossword puzzle on the train ride back to her place for the second night in a row

If it's a B3n Taus1g puzzle, you may be disappointed with a couple of the theme fills this week.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

yeah both tausigs, we did the onion one last night, and the wash city paper (which may be special to that paper?) one will be tonight

deej, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

20. Gave me socks. One has lightning bolt on it. Socks wrapped in Iron Maiden paper (which came from shoes, but still).

Plus is totally the best, which pretty much seals the deal.

contenderizer, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I guess my "imaginary, so unable to do anything wrong, therefore perfect" isn't valid either then. (xpost)

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

16. she took a 1/2day off to get w33d, rent movies, make me a feast of tapas that includes wine tasting. but doesn't want any presents or flowers and shit

yeah carne dog buy her some flowers

max, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

(which may be special to that paper?)

It's syndicated, although he's been known to change up a clue or two in each market to make a local reference.

And this is the one I'm talking about: a couple of the theme fills really feel like stretches to me.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

i think you guys are right.lunch time shopping run may be in order here.
damn, i suck at this stuff

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

*insert crepe joke here*

sanskrit, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

Someone remind me whether the 60-min or the 90-min IPA is the good one. I always forget. I got one and thought it was fine but not remarkable.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

90 90 90 90 90 90

Mr. Que, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

the chicory one is good, but not great. and the WWS def tastes like coffee

69, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

xpost to Jordan - Hmmmmm. Well that probably does too but I think the fist one does also even though it says nothing about coffee on it. There are beans on the label though so you never know. Anyway, it's good stuff.

ENBB, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

Dogfish Head! I used to work down the street from that place back when I lived in Delaware. In a few months I'm getting married in DE so Dogfish Head is one of the 3 beers I picked out to be served at the wedding.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

Are you getting married in Rehoboth Beach?

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

dogfish head is 90 is my favorite too ...

congrats again Al

deej, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

All this talk makes me want to convince my girlfriend to go to Hopleaf after crepes, since it's just across the street.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

not in Rehoboth (which is where I used to live and where my mom still lives), but about 20 minutes away from there. (xpost thanks dude)

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:58 (eighteen years ago)

There are a couple of Chicago thread regulars who have roots in Rehoboth.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

And yeah, now that you guys mention it, I think it was the 60-min IPA that I ordered that one time.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I see Dogfish Head in Baltimore and D.C. bars fairly often but had no concept of how many people drink it much further away from Delaware.

xpost wow really? funny. who? did any of them go to Cape Henlopen HS?

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

Well, Kelsey (who posts as "sweet tater") grew up in Michigan, but her parents live in the Rehoboth area now, and she got married there last summer. And Facebook tells me that Jenny (who posts as "Jenny") did in fact go to Cape Henlopen, class of '90.

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

weird! I was class of '00, though, so I'm guessing no social sphere overlap there.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

WHO ARE YOU OTHER THAN SOMEONE NAMED ALEX WHO LIVES IN BALTIMORE?

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

I think you graduated with some of my cousins. Note: I am not responsible for any of my cousins being assholes.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

Also they are step cousins.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

Note to any of my cousins: You are not assholes and steps are for staircases and I love you as if you were my own blood-related cousin.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

lol

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

haha. ok, well my last name is Shipley, I have a brother and some cousins who also went there but only a couple years ahead of me.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Shipley sounds really familiar. My cousins are mostly M1llm@ns and one Br@dl3y.

I'm having trouble even remembering any of my teachers... Mr. C@ssidy was my favorite teacher but he got busted for possession of crack cocaine! Whoops!

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

mostly M1llm@ns and one Br@dl3y

doesn't ring any bells, but then, I've probably forgotten the surnames of some of my best friends back then by now. my cousins were mostly B@chers.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

Nope, nothin'. I think we've established that a) we don't know each other at all; and b) the world is not actually as small as Disney songs would have us believe.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

You guys know a lot of hackers!

StanM, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

Although LOL at people running away from Sussex County and never looking back, amirite?

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

The last thing I need is one of my asshole cousins vanity-googling his or her name and finding ILX and, worse yet, ME.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah, absolutely. i always had roots elsewhere and just lived there for a big chunk of my adolescence, but definitely only go back for family. really the only reason I'm getting married there is that we get to do it for free on a farmhouse that once belonged to my grandparents and it turned out to be a really nice convenient/sentimental option. (xpost haha)

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Hahaha I know an @l3x M1llm@-n! but he is in c4n4d4 (can i st0p th1s y3t)

Will M., Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

i did NOT think this thread would turn out to be about delaware

bell_labs, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

Delaware is for lovers

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

xp - Nobody ever does.

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I just scrolled up so I have two more questions for Alex and then I will leave this thread and take my Delaware-specific conversation with me:

1. Where did you work that was near DFH?
2. Are you getting married in Milton, perchance?

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

23. Buys me a sweet new hoodie and raw denim jeans, plays magic: the gathering and brings a 6 pack of Stone IPA.

ian, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

OMG JUST WHEN THIS THREAD WAS GETTING OK AGAIN IAN HAD TO COME AND GAY IT RIGHT BACK UP

max, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

max, rehobooth beach delaware is like the gayest place in america and that is what they were just talking about before so shut your face

bell_labs, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

1. I worked for a year or two at the Summer House, about a block up from DFH (also interviewed Steve Shelley there when one of his non-Sonic Youth bands opened for Mike Watt there when I was in high school!)
2. yes, in Milton! eerie.

(xpost yes Rehoboth is super gay, in every sense of the word)

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I know the Summer House. They were notorious for serving underage people when I was underage. Go Summer House! And I figured 20 minutes from RB, barn... had to be Milton. That's where my giant stepfamily all live.

Well, congratulations on your nuptials and your free wedding barn and not living in Sussex County any more!

Jenny, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

haha I didn't know that (and I WORKED there underaged and never got served, damn), but I'm not surprised. the old owners were a nice rich couple, though, i think they sold it a year or two back.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

Aren't there only like three cities in Delaware, anyway?

jaymc, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

florest hooked me up! plus got some nice desserts form the bakery.

carne asada, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

arguably, yeah. Wilmington's a city, Newark is more of a college town than a city, and Dover has an airforce base but is kind of a piddly excuse for a state capital, and down in lower slower Delaware the bigger coastal towns are all tourist traps that dramatically shrink in population in the off season.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.

I tried to think of a way to abbreviate that, but "V Day" and "V.D." are already taken.

nabisco, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

can't see the trees from the florest

Jordan, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:43 (eighteen years ago)

was hoping nobody caught that

carne asada, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

On ILX?

Laurel, Thursday, 14 February 2008 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

yea, you probably should get her something.

haha yeah, just a little something even. my friend tim here at work was asking if he should do this b/c he is making his gf dinner and everything but i said, well, you should prob also get something small, like a couple of truffles or flowers. and today i asked he was explaining the dinner-to-be and i asked him if he bought truffles and he says "i got her a four-pack of gum!" and pulls out a thing of gum. it was hard to stop laughing. i think he's getting her truffles later.

rrrobyn, Thursday, 14 February 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

cuz he bruises easily.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 14 February 2008 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

i got good advice from ILX today!

carne asada, Thursday, 14 February 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

i have eaten a lot of unexpected chocolate today!
