Holy shit. I just heard on the radio that Kennedy might have been shot today in Dallas. I called my mom, and she said the TV was still showing her soap opera.

I just realized something kind of weird. Abe Lincoln was elected exactly 100 years before Kennedy. And if Kennedy died -- God forbid -- Lyndon Johnson would become president, just like when Lincoln died, Andrew Johnson became president. Kinda gives you the chills, huh?

They're not saying yet where the shots were fired. "Pandemonium" is gripping Dallas right now, according to the broadcast.
CBS saying that presidential limo is specifically built for public rides, and that the president's seat is actually lifted higher than regular cars so that the crowd can see him.

US radio stations USELESS!
A nation in MOURNING and all they can do is play BLAND POPIST PAP by fly-by-night NME hypes like the BEATLES!
Systems thinking can solve this mess - all radio programmers to be SACKED and REPLACED by AWARE PROACTIVE programmers with full knowledge of diverse music spectra including developments in HARD FORMALIST ORNETTECORE, VARESE SPUNKWAVE and TRAD FADELA.

In the light of this, I think all competitive sport should be suspended immediately. I can't see the point in continuing with a triviality like the current English football season.

This is totally fucked up. They have the suspect of the biggest crime of the century and he's not protected. Makes me think that someone wanted him shut up because he could name the people who were bankrolling him. I don't buy it that he was a lone nutjob, it must be the Soviets behind it.

OK, guys, let's put down the Carling Black Label and face facts, this guy was only human and just as corrupt as the rest of our presidents...except for FDR, Wilson, Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, and Teddy - now they were some infallible guys with no skeletons in their closets.
Kennedy was a hothead with next to no policy experience who nearly got us into the next Big One just a few months ago - or have you knuckleheads already forgotten in the rush to make him the next Marilyn Monroe? Now there was a death worth bemoaning - someone who really stood for America in a way you could get behind. If we ever even hear the name Kennedy in politics again I'd be very surprised.
The only consolation for all this hand-wringing is that Johnson has got his head screwed on straight. I'm counting on him to follow up all the empty promises of Kennedy's presidency with real change; we should be okay so long as he doesn't get us entangled in any military quagmires. (The rubes are talking about Indochina but anyone with any understanding of geopolitics should understand that the next big fight is going to be over the Finnish border.) 'Nuff said!

Surely it's time for America to look beyond one political family and to get a colored president. It's kind of a crazy idea and I know some of you are going to say it's too soon. But this guy's on a roll after that big march and I hear he's up for the Nobel prize next. I wouldn't vote for MLK if he ran in the primaries against Bobby or Lyndon. BFK and LBJ has already done much for the black community. They're experienced. I know that MLK has been skeptical of the rumblings in Indochina, but really, he's just all talk about fairy tales, a dreamweaver.
― Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 16 February 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I think you're right, I mean what more could blacks want? They need to trust that LBJ does the right thing. To be honest I cannot see a time when America will be ready for a black president. Maybe a woman?! Yeah, right, I know.

They say Nixon lost the election because he looked like he's hungover in that one televised debate, and didn't come off as appealing as JFK. In reality he'd just been ill, and refused to wear makeup. So Kennedy won just because he looked better, wore makeup like some queer, and was generally better at bullshitting gullible voters. At least Nixon's got some integrity.

A corps of researchers looking into the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy say they have unearthed proof his alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was involved in an operation by the CIA mere months before the killing, reigniting questions about whether the Oswald truly was alone in his decision to kill the youngest man ever elected president.
In a Tuesday press conference at the National Press Club, Jefferson Morley—a veteran of the D.C. press corps and a preeminent expert on JFK's assassination with the Mary Ferrell Foundation—told reporters that he and attorneys with the foundation obtained documentation relating to a still-classified covert operation approved by senior CIA officials three months before Kennedy's death that suggested the agency used Oswald for intelligence purposes several weeks prior to shooting.
"This is an extraordinarily serious claim, and it has profound implications for the official story," Morley said Tuesday morning in Washington. "The CIA knew far more about the lone gunman than then they are admitting even today. So this story deserves the closest possible scrutiny."
