i love how this thread is most likely more of a reflection of how old and out-of-touch ILXors are than an actual list of what these girls would like. I mean Tori Amos? PJ Harvey? Really?

or in other words:

Abbott, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

My grad-school-shtoodent prof for my graphic novels class had us write 250 words on "the very good reasons why" she assigned us Ghost World. I SAID, to start:

1. (Prof) was born in 1979, like Ms. Coleslaw, and enjoyed revisiting relics of her youth that exist no more, such as “Sassy” magazine and zines being taken seriously as a sellable publication. (Likelihood: 73%)

I think it is true but I'm not sure. I oughta look at some myspaces to confirm my suspicion. I see how jack seems a bit off.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 28 February 2008 08:02 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i was wonderin.

csa, Thursday, 28 February 2008 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

I was raising my eyebrow at the 90s-ness of some of these answers too, so I just spied on the Myspaces of some local scene kids and/or friends of student internet pal and was amazed at the 90s-ness of their likes lists too.

The kids today are into Shellac, Smashing Pumpkins, Twin Peaks and Adam and Joe? Wow! Maybe it is still the late 90s and I really am succeeding - uh, apart from the weight gain - in my Peter Pan fantasies! Or maybe this is like how the people I hung out with aged 18-20 were hell of into Pixies, Bill and Ted and the Stone Roses, around a decade late on any of them. At least if the last one has died out my faith in the idea of progress will be restored.

(Or I'm spying on unrepresentative people, of course)
(ouch at Abbott 1979 zine-zing ;_; )

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 28 February 2008 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Adam and Joe are still on XFM, innit?

gem, Thursday, 28 February 2008 11:04 (eighteen years ago)

...I knew they were still on somewhere but had assumed their audience was mainly the same people as ten years ago, partly because every time I saw it mentioned it was in an "ohhey do you remember? well, it's just like the old days, except without the pictures, and not quite as good" sort of way

(disclaimer: may actually be a) brilliant and/or b) nothing like the old days)
