I just realized that our mail didn't come on friday and saturday, the first after two days this snowman was built. We got a note today from the mailman saying "YOU'VE GOT SNOW AND ICE ON YOUR SIDEWALK SO WE REFUSE TO WALK ON IT, THOUGHT WE SHOULD TELL YOU THX". But our snow and ice on the sidewalk certainly wasn't any worse than necessary.
Then today, we actually get the mail, but the snowman's arm is broken in half and there's piss on his side. Idea: Did the mailman think the snowman's arm was blocking him too much, wait a few days in disgust, then break the arm and pee on its side one morning?

I love all of you. (I think.) You can see close-ups of individual dishes here and all, but the point was that most everything came from local places/farms/folks, v. much in keeping with Stripey's own increasing interest in eating locally. i was with ai lien at the rendezvous and the ribs were just ok that day. off day in the kitchen perhaps? they were way more delicious the last time we were there. also, our waiter, "zach," was a bit of a prick. making fun of customers seemed to be his schtick. ai lien's sis ordered a salad. "rabbit food, huh." the guy at the table next to ours ordered not a manly pile of ribs but a turkey sandwich. "i'll bring you a white zinfadel too." a real comedian.

probably. of course, rendezvous is kind of looked down on by the real heads*. I'll go if I'm downtown with curious out-of-towners (and the bbq nachos are pretty tight) but otherwise it's a bit over-rated. And of course there's the "zach" factor.

I didn't want to get all BBQ on the WDYLL thread, but what the hell. Whole Hog is my favorite! I've not had better here in LR, but the judge and the bailiff (coworkers) insist that I need to try Lindsey's BBQ. I'm not a huge fan of dry rub ribs, so that counts against Rendezvous. We do mean to try more Memphis BBQ institutions.

I wouldn't say it doesn't smell of *anything*. I say this with some authority because I have the dregs of a glass of it beside me now. I'm not sure what it smells of, though, admittedly.

That is me with my eyes wide open (at my friend's wedding, the other guy in the pic, the one in the vest vest rather than my sweatervest). Also I appear to be slouching wildly in that pic, since I am a few inches taller than him. But you're right that it doesn't look like other pictures of me. I rarely feel like pictures do a good job of reflecting what I look like but then how would I know, really? So this one might be more accurate than the other ones.
