I believe the children are our are future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be Everybody searching for a hero People need someone to look up to I never found anyone to fulfill my needs A lonely place to be So I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows If I fail, if I succeed At least I live as I believe No matter what they take from me They can't take away my dignity Because the greatest love of all Is happening to me I found the greatest love of all Inside of me The greatest love of all Is easy to achieve Learning to love yourself It is the greatest love of all
I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
And if by chance, that special place That you've been dreaming of Leads you to a lonely place Find your strength in love

The Dyson Louis has in the clip is an older model. You can pick them up used pretty cheap. I couldn't make it through the clip, I kind of admire the guy for being that much of a shameless exhibitionist, but oh man...

It's an older Louis as well. Well, a younger Louis, I mean. Lawyers representing the Jagger Estate have asked me to inform you all that this took place four years ago, outside of Oxford, Louis had nothing to do with uploading the clip or locking comments, and the Dyson got popped just after going offstage.

So "lol @ Britishes" then. Just glad that there was no footage of him putting his dick inside that thing.
― Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 6 March 2008 15:58 (seventeen years ago)
This would still have a better chance at winning Eurovision that Andy Abraham. Probably go over well with German voters, they like weird stuff.
putting his dick inside that thing
That would get the Dutch vote.
― snoball, Thursday, 6 March 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, for a second I was missing the college days when this sort of thing would be hilarious, but then I remembered that I never really experienced that. The only way I can entirely understand that many people enjoying it is if they're all stoned for the very first time.

In my first term at uni we had an evening where we got incredibly drunk and everyone did a little skit or sang a song or whatever, and everyone else was terribly polite and encouraging about it. I don't think there was anything this embarrassing, though.
― chap, Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)
I went to college in Britain and I never saw anything like this. I think they're laughing in the way that you laugh with the crazy guy on the bus out of fear he might suddenly turn on you otherwise.

Me likewise. The worst I've ever experienced is the archetypal stoner party where the acoustic guitar, tin whistle and bongoes get broken out and every one has a "jam" (that sounds exactly like "contact high with the godz" har har har), and I suspect that's kind of a universal of stoner parties across the globe.

― Tom D., Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:33 (seventeen years ago)
This reminds me of something that happened when I was at college. A guy walked into the cafeteria and put Brian May's "Driven By You" on the jukebox, then he started jumping around all over the place playing air guitar, skidding on his knees, etc.. I was sitting with some friends right next to the jukebox, unable to move because of this guy. Then the song finished and he just walked out as though nothing had happened. There was complete silence and then we noticed that everybody sitting at all the other tables had backed away, and were sitting at the tables lining the walls as far away from this air guitar guy as possible.

legit lol.
I think this really is a wealthy/Oxbridge British nerd thing, rather than just a British thing. They probably play ultimate frisbee too. Nerds who go to public school here are not bullied back into their shell enough, so when you get a critical mass of them, as happens at Oxford and Cambridge, they are insufferable.
― caek, Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:33 (seventeen years ago)
i did once play the whole of the first chapter of jeff wayne's musical version of the war of the worlds with what may as well have been a vacuum cleaner in front of a very organised crowd at a pub, mind you....
― ken c, Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)
It's a nice premise, but the superlong performance doesn't live up to it. Maybe if I'd been there I would've laughed, on video it's the audience reactions that are actually more interesting.
― Tuomas, Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

This sort of buffoonery is only funny if it's totally spontaneous and lasts for a few seconds with a group of close friends. In this situation it's all planned out, organised and has a "concept" which is explained to everyone, that's what's really twattish about it.
― Bodrick III, Thursday, 6 March 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)

oh sure, but it's for different stuff to what results in a kicking/ostracizing in state school. Revue-style whimsy goes over rather better at a public school than it does at a comprehensive.

Nerds who go to public school here are not bullied back into their shell enough, so when you get a critical mass of them, as happens at Oxford and Cambridge, they are insufferable.
This is so rong I don't know where to start. Firstly, bullying at public school is like way worse than at state school. Yer good old comprehensive bully would probably draw the line at a heavy shitkicking and maybe a ritual humiliation or two. If you don't get forcibly penetrated or at least forced to wank in front of a room full of people at public school you've done well.
Secondly, it relies on the proviso that repeated humiliation would stop Louis from making a public exhibition of himself when all evidence from the last 18 months of ILX points to exactly the opposite conclusion.
This post was brought to you by 'Received Wisdom About English Public Schools Vol. 1'.

Re: LJ's behaviour not changing despite what happened to him when his mum told him off for being on YTMND, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Re: bullying in public vs. comprehensive schools, you're right that the bullying is of a different class in public school. I guess my point is that different kinds of behaviour and interests are tolerated at each, not that one background is a particularly easy life. Nothing else explains the kind of outburst of whimsical nerdism exhibited much more strongly by freshers from public school than by those from state school.

Louis Jagger (Cambridge) wrote at 12:00pm it's OK Justin. what was a funny joke among friends should never have made it onto ILX, even as a brief and questionably funny aside on an unserious poll thread. the reason for this is that ILX is full of insecure cunts who can't take anything at face value and always have to append their own bullshit signifiers like "this is a wealthy/Oxbridge nerd thing". it wasn't. it was a week-long easter vacation school (in 2004) for people from all sorts of backgrounds, to mix, have fun and express themselves. i was merely playing myself up (having made a speech detailing my intentions to that effect) and i find the reaction predictable yet appalling nonetheless. feel free to let some of those losers know what i make of 'em.

During freshman orientation, I remember being ambushed by a campus improv "comedy" group.
LJ's youtube video >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>that stuff
― dell, Thursday, 6 March 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)
Of course he doesn't know when to stop! If he did he would have emailed one of the mods immediately and asked for the thread to be deleted which we would happily have done. I find it difficult to believe he doesn't like the attention just a teeeeny bit otherwise he wouldn't be communicating with this thread via various Facebook messages to different Ilxors. Or more to the point he would have made his friend take that video down in the first place.
Nb I like Louis a lot and I don't think there's anything that bad being thrown at him this thread except the assertion that he should have been beaten up more at school. Possibly if he weren't here to defend himself, but that's clearly not the case.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 6 March 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)
Essentially his problem is that he's happy to go 'hey look at me!' until he realises the attention he is getting is spiralling out of his control and then suddenly he wants to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted, when he would be better off, like NOT ALLOWING THIS STUFF ON THE INTERNET IN THE FIRST PLACE.

There is a Louisville that borders Knoxville and everyone totally pronounces is "Loovul." See also: "Maryville" = "Murrvl," which my Mom banned us from saying in our formative years. When Lamar Alexander was campaigning he passed out stickers at my high school that read "I <3 Mrvl." I'd kill for one now.
― roxymuzak, Sunday, 9 March 2008 18:31 (seventeen years ago)
my roommate last year was from Loovul.

We've got a Blytheville that's pronounced with a silent "the".
That whole area of the country, from Nashville to North Carolina, is all ate up with ______ville's.
