Hey guys, I just noticed that the calendar on my wall ends on December 31, 2008 - this must mean something!

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 30 May 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

All the end of the Mayan calendar means is the end of this creation and the world as we know it. But geez, we're on like the seventh creation or something, it's not that big a deal. (PS I LOVE that they actually wrote their dates on monuments from the date of the latest creation.)

Abbott, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

I don't plan that far ahead. My calendar ends this Sunday!!!!

Kerm, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)

I will miss u Kerm. :(

Abbott, Friday, 30 May 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

a 22 12 party sounds like a night we had once, we called it The Night Of Certain Death, where we all just had a fucking great house party and took vast amounts of drugs cos we were young hearts running free in the night.

But instead of 'burning out', we all just woke up in the morning with bad heads.

one year passes...

Have any of you actually read up on all things Mayan? I started my first book yesterday. I've had it sitting on my shelf for a long time now. I had a friend who was really into Sound Tribe Sector 9 back in the day and he was the one who encouraged me to buy a book. STS9 apparently does a lot of Mayan stuff (Sector 9 is a Mayan calendar reference)

hatchet, axe and saw supervisor (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

from wiki: "STS9 is also known for their affiliation with the Mayan Calendar and The Law of Time. The Natural Time Calendar is a growing global movement to change the world standard away from the Gregorian Calendar. The Law of Time is a formula developed by Jose Arguelles that defines the mathematical ratio of 13:20. From 1998 through 2001, STS9 performed special live shows on the Day Out Of Time, the name of the last day of each year of the Natural Time Calendar. --> Recently STS9 has distanced themselves publicly from the mayan association. Notice the lack of crystals on stage at their shows now."

the book I have is actually by Jose Arguelles (The Mayan Factor).

The-end-of-the-world-hype-bullshit really takes away from the cool shit about the Mayan civilization. It's a shame that an intellectual discussion can't be had without "the end of the world" popping up. Not to mention the Mayans never predicted that Dec 12. 2012 would be the end of the world but the end of a cycle :/

I've been to some of the Mayan ruins in Cozumel

hatchet, axe and saw supervisor (CaptainLorax), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 19:48 (sixteen years ago)

I voted 'No I Believe It' because I thought I was voting on whether or not the Mayan Calendar was bullshit. Then I read the subtitle and blammo it was another "END OF THE WORLD" thread.

The way the winds were blowing for hours here in OK last night...could have been a sign but the thought never crossed my mind. Blew until 4am when I finally went to sleep. Unnerving!

Kept thinking of The Great Depression, if the rental was that old, what it looked like back then, who lived in it first, what did it cost to remodel, what will our first electric bill be like, how I rarely traveled for Christmas to see family, always spent it at home then back to the PBS documentary on Oklahoma and did the first people who lived in this house take off to to California, did they make it, what about a zombie version of Grapes of Wrath because they were starving...but the whole Mayan thing just never came up.
