sur i don't really know how to answer the question! it is a bit confrontational -- and to be honest i haven't ever spent a lot of time comparing our respective levels of intelligence.

The further I plunge into the smartness at which I excel - academic, theoretical, verbal, creative smartness, the more I realise that the kind of smartness at which I have always lagged behind - emotional smartness, common-sense smartness, foresight smartness, is arguably the more important. Currently working on a means to converge the two but at the moment I'd say I'll always be outwitted in the long run by a more mentally-organised individual. Not that it's a competition or anything. ;-)

I don't think intelligence is that simple anymore, there are too many areas of it, so I just have no clue! (Also it seems very irrelevant to life in general. Curiosity is relevant though.)

I used to think smart was really easy to quantify. Now I think it's nearly impossible. In what is almost surely not a coincidence, I used to think I was really smart, and now I wonder what could possibly have led me to that conclusion (lol standardized test scores.)

I know, me too! It was kind of an embarrassing realization when I went to college and figured out that being good at standardized tests & public school doesn't actually make up for deficiences in all the OTHER kinds of smarts there are.

Sur, I think you're more intelligent than I originally gave you credit for, when you first started posting here. But I still don't know you well enough to be able to compare my intelligence with yours, especially since I agree with Maria that there are lots of different kinds of intelligence. My grades in school and standardized test scores always made me feel pretty smart, but I also know that I'm a total idiot when it comes to some things.

i hate the feeling that you should act smarter than you really are because if you don't, people will act like you're stupid, especially when they're also acting smarter than they are. imo it's better to be stupid sometimes, honest about it, and open to potential ridicule, than to always hedge, be vague, use obscure language, etc., protecting your "smart person" reputation amongst others and yourself. :P just venting...

yuh I ask my boss questions baout anything and everything all the time. It pisses him off sometimes but I think he mostly appreciates that I'm just trying to do my job better.

when you really want to communicate something to someone you use the most basic language you can, i think. if you're fronting you'll be wordy.
