(and/or kati roll, they're sort of similar and both good.)

I've been to the Annex, it's sort of long and thin and the stage is at one end, also the cover was $10 to see some touring bands on a Tuesday night and Buds were like $6, so I find the venue a little underwhelming. But then it's the same guy as owns the Darkroom and I think another place, too, so he's kind of a "bar owner" type.

Not sure if you're talking about West Village or more central Greenwich Village, but for the NYU neighborhood, on University Pl. actually, near 11th or so, there's a pretty good though often crowded Thai place called Spice - it's perhaps not the most authentic, more like Thai fusion, perhaps. There's also an Indian place called Cafe Spice on the same block that some people like, though I think it's just okay.

^^ Meskerem has been pretty lame every time I've eaten there. The other one referred to here is Ghenet, on Mulberry just below Houston (so more toward the east side), which is better (in way that tips more toward American nice-dining style than down-home authenticity).
