What's sexier: ice maiden bitches or people being nice?

Prompted by the Gwyneth Paltrow thread. I'm afraid I go with ice maiden bitch.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Er I got major slaggings from my friends over the last few months for putting up with someone they think is an ice maiden bitch. Their conclusion was that I loved it all secretly. I don't think she's an ice maiden bitch though so I can't comment.

But yeah probably ice maiden bitch.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear grief, is this even a real question? Being nice, please. Why in the world would you want to hang out with someone who isn't?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on Ned men love that shit! Though then they moan about how they can never tell if girls like them and what a mystery we are. It is pretty masochistic really, I mean I'm only ice maideny with people I don't like so if that turns them on then they are clearly mental.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The human heart is a strange thing, Ned. You must have picked up on this from all those weird gothy records you listen to, surely?

Put in another way, some people are fucked up.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's possible for the person to be an ice maiden bitch and thus be nice.......er to you anyway.

Enough of the personal experiences though, I think I may have just stressed that "nice" is subject to opinion and sat on the fence here. yep.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh, I like nice people = I am wuss.

It's funny that some people think I am a total stuck up snob ice maiden beotch. The beotch part I don't contest, but the stuck up part is down to me being v. shy.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

from afar, i admire the ice maiden - i've said somewhere before that catherine deneuve could piss on me any time she wanted to..whether i owuld get involved, i don't know...

Queen G, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on, no-brainer. Ice maiden bitch obv.!!!!

Dr. C, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually most people I know when asked this would go "yeah ice maiden bitch", but doesn't that just sound better? I mean the whole word bitch has been sassy and cool for ages now.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know one guy who is in love with my best friend who is complete Blonde Ice Maiden Bitch. Half of the time when he says something to her she just stares at him with disgust. But he is obsessed with her. And she loves stringing him along as a source of power 'ha ha, he likes me but I don't like him, I just like him liking me'. I would feel too akward to be an ice maiden. Too many uncomfortable silences. Being nice is better, the friend I mention usually has horrible relationships.

Evangeline, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's funny how many ice maiden beotches in my ken have excused their icemaidenry as being other people's misconception of their shyness...

Ice Maidens ROCK! Queen G, you are OTM about Catherine Deneuve.

Sod nice. I wanna get carpet burns on my knees while beggin you to notice me...

misterjones, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thing is Gwyneth's the nice one. She'd lose an ice maiden contest with Tippi Hedren in no time flat.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Laydeez = ice-maiden bitches

Guys = being nice

Guys who are ice-maiden bitches I have no time for, but at least girls who are being nice can be my BEST FWEND 4 EVAH!

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I have ever encountered an ice maiden bloke. In my experience it's not a tactic they use when trying to get rid of someone who fancies them but who they do not fancy. They usually just run away & tell their friends you are a mentalist.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No they usually get pissed and snog them.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem, Emma, I am being of the business of presuming you are forgetting about gay men.

Tim, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

er not me though, I should stress.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm, I am a wuss also, I hate snooty bitches.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

being nice, i can do without paraphenalia

gareth, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, only because I do not like to waste my time fancying gay men.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to refine my answer I always get attracted to girls I think are really nice, but in fact turn out to be ice maidens.

chris, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And she loves stringing him along as a source of power 'ha ha, he likes me but I don't like him, I just like him liking me'.

You see if I ever knew anyone was doing it as consciously as this I'd probably think it was just a bit pathetic and not be so interested. It's really when it's just natural to them that it's a turn on.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I want them actually being mean and not talking to me, but messing me around and being mean to other people is fucking great. I'm asking for trouble I guess.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*blows smoke in Nick's face and stares outside at the cold, grey seagulls*

Evangeline, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who ever would have guessed men lead such bizarre interior lives?

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

snork maiden bitches!!

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have guessed Anna. They are a very strange bunch indeed. Sometimes I think they are from Mars while us women are from Venus.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have guessed Anna. They are a very strange bunch indeed. Sometimes I think they are from Mars while us women are from Venus.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate it when that happens.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

how did it happen, you have to put a space in or something. I think you're just desperate for space and attention.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I pity the strange Martian creatures.

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My shaky alcoholic's hand hit submit twice by mistake. I bet an ice maiden wouldn't do that.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You can still be a shaky alcoholic ice maiden you know. you'd be like Ann Robinson.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am NOTHING LIKE ANN BLOODY ROBINSON. Christ.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would just like to point out that I do not fancy Anne Robinson.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It can never be stressed enough. all that orange stubble.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You'd have to be an ice maiden to terrify poor Mr Greenspun into lettign you do that though.

I think Sara's trying to be an ice maiden but she appears to be far too nice to pull it off.

Graham, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Desperate for Space is a good title for a film, esp. if it features martians rather than men

mark s, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer has mentioned Tippi Hedren around here before. The only guys I know that are into her are gay, so this sticks in my mind. I like her myself, but man is she cold. She's better in "Marnie" than "The Birds", too, and she gets to wear more outfits.

Do women wear the aloof look better than guys? I'm not saying I go for totally gregarious, life of the party types, but I do prefer nice to aloof in guys. Maybe because I spent too much of my life playing aloof myself.

Sean, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It would be a better sitcom, Desperate For Space, a family of martians are forced to live in a shoebox and try and repair their ship to get home.

Ronan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am into Tippi Hedren. Maybe I am gay after all. Fuck it everyone I AM GAY. Hello?? THIS IS ME COMING OUT.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is very damaging to my self esteem.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We all knew all along, etc.

Nicole, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say ONLY gay men are into Tippi Hedren... but as long as this has provided Nick with an opportunity to accept himself, then I feel good.

Sean, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I have no interest in Liza Minnelli so maybe I'm not. CORRECTION EVERYBODY: I AM NOT GAY.

People tried to a href="http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/news/top_story.html?in_revie w_id=530141&in_review_text_id=495465">mug her last night, you know, but she fought them off with her $700 parmesan knife.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Err - as if it matters

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who ever would have guessed men lead such bizarre interior lives

May I submit to Emma and Anna that this trend is merely a male counterpart to the equally-common feminine attraction to arrogant, emotionally walled-off, manipulative men?

Nitsuh, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nitsuh, this is true to a point but reminds me of Cabbage's post where he says he likes nice girls who turn into ice maidens. An ex of mine was sweet & charming as pie when wooing me (cannot think of a better expression) & for the first few months then turned into Mr Arrogant & Emotionally Walled Off. If I had known in the beginning he'd turn out like that I wouldn't have got involved but he was being Mr Charming and I was fooled. Grr.

Emma, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nitsuh, yes - that was in the back of my mind when I started the thread. I always have to remind myself when I get cross about women fancying bastards that men are just as guilty.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

True Nitsuh, very true.

Then, if I'd started a thread called 'Sexy but arrogant: classic or dud' Nick and Ronan and the others would have started a similar counter arguement to Emma and I.

And it's Friday afternoon sillyness anyway.

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there a male equivalent of the "ice maiden bitch" archetype though?

I don't think the "arrogant bastard" you're discussing really aligns that closely.

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At first, I read that as ''Sexy but arrogant: classic or dud - Nick and Ronan" This is because I am arrogant.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's funny that some people think I am a total stuck up snob ice maiden beotch.

! Well, they're fools. Or so I say.

I think it comes down to this -- you can be reserved, sly, stand-offish, controlled, etc. -- and *STILL* be very friendly, thoughtful, nice and so forth. I know more than enough people who fit that description to a T. It may seem like a contradiction -- hardly.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on Ned men love that shit!

Hurrah! I'm not a man! Er, wait, that doesn't work.

The human heart is a strange thing, Ned. You must have picked up on this from all those weird gothy records you listen to, surely?

Shiny shiny, shiny boots of leather.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I should punctuate better.

Sorry boys.

I don't really think there is though Fritz, I ran through 'brooding and arty' 'rebel without a cause' 'he's just misunderstood' and others before giving in to Sexy but arrogant.

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fritz: it absolutely does! It's the "masculine" version of the same type of behavior; self-serving, imperious, only nice to others when they're doing something for then (and even that's not a given), etc.

("etc" = boon to those addicted to hand-wavey arguments)

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you giving us your history of relationships?

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well I think the difference I was thinking of was that the "ice maiden bitch" is disinterested in sex while the arrogant bastard is a bit of a cad, right? he's not interested in affection, but he does want to fuck.

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Me or Dan?

(Side point: I am a big fan of both etc etc and hand waving arguements)

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You Anna. Sorry Dan slipped in there.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but maybe my last point is misleading, as both archetypes are generally portrayed as using sex to reinforce their own power - the "boyfriend-stealing" Gwyneth, the womanizer who thinks that the "chase is better than the catch" etc. etc.

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, fritz. I'm a bit confused about what an ice maiden is, to be honest. I mean someone who doesn't show you signs of affection, puts you down etc. and is a bit of an enigma. She might be a real goer in bed, though.

I should probably compromise by going for a nice maiden bitch.

N., Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It wasn't conscious and is not chronalogical, but probably yes. I'm a sucker for misunderstood. There have been a few nice ones in there though.

Anna, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice people are bestest, I've had enough of shitheads.

DG, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, you're fired!

How did you let that "he does want to fuck / me or Dan? / Dan slipped in there" string of posts get by you without at least a waggling of your eyebrows?

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't be foolish, Fritz -- sometimes, certain things don't even need to be said. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am TRAUMATIZED now, thank you very much.

Dan Perry, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you love it.

fritz, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am also too much of a wuss for any ice bitchyness. But nice girls who can be devastatingly sarcastic, that is where it's at.

bnw, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ice maiden = maiden made of ice.

Melts.

Who's going to win that fite?

Pete, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But nice girls who can be devastatingly sarcastic, that is where it's at.

Yowsa! BNW has it precisely.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't think i fit into either category. i don't really think either extreme exists, except in the movies.

di, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The sexiest women dress hard and rich and tailored and untouchable- like. Very nice nails, nice hair, nice shoes, and nice manners. (Many exceptions, usually due to nice genes, but I'm too deep to notice.) And they know how to walk. And then they just have to be kind and warm and funny and we can see what happens.

dan, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm with Anna: who'd have known. But it does explain a lot. Can I submit that the 'ice maiden bitch' could be someone who has an interesting interior life (hence the lack of need to interact), and that's what's attractive - curiosity to know what she's thinking, of you and the world, leading to desire? Whereas the easily knowable is already conquered. The great disappointment would be finally conquering/penetrating the ice-maidens glassy exterior to find something trivial within. Nevetheless, the conquest in itself would be a thrill. Better, perhaps, to read a difficult book and spend leisure time with an affectionate friend.

maryann, Friday, 22 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So here's a related question: Betty or Veronica?

geeta, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Veronica.

Maryann is totally on the money.

N., Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Betty is the ice maiden bitch in this case but hey - I'm complicated! (and misunderstood)

N., Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So the relationship with the Ice Maiden Bitch is doomed for failure, but I suppose that is part of the appeal? Or rather, to see that she is not an ice maiden in bed...she can finally let go and relinquish all those pent up emotions on one lucky guy! This is the Sexy Librarian/Headmistress syndrome again.

Evangeline, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(sexy librarian = jel to thread!!)

mark s, Saturday, 23 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No,no, you're all wrong. You want a nice, clean cut, and sweet woman who can put on leathers and a whip and become an ice maiden on cue.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A person can't really become an ice maiden "on cue" or it would mean they weren't really an ice maiden to begin with, it defeats the whole purpose.

Or maybe I'm just tired and am talking in circles...?

Nicole, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think a woman who becomes an ice maiden at some post-hypnotic suggestion would be far more entertaining.

Dan Perry, Monday, 25 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i shall here point out AGAIN that Dan Perry = a Very Bad Man :)

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And all the sexier for it?

N., Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Now whenever you hear the words... 'working late'.... become as ice!"

firestone, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

FUNNILY ENOUGH N., the first time i typed that post i accidentally put "bed" instead of "bad"! maybe i am subconsciouly falling for his charms after all (i'm sure i wouldn't be the first :))

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Katie, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Now, look at the spinning pendant... You eyelids are getting heavier... and heavier... you are getting Now, whenever you read the word ROX0R you will become ILE's premier ice maiden... Awake when I snap my fingers...

*SNAP*

So, where were we?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

kindly quit your snivelling and fetch me another G&T... and make sure it's got enough ice in it this time dunderhead! *flounces off with nose in air*

ooh i feel all woozy!

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, that should be:

ICE QUEEN KATIE, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How scary. Ice maiden Katie = Ned.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can't/.. type... the mirth!! Dan you are BAAAADD!!!! and NAUGHTY!

katie, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew there was a reason I liked Katie a lot, oh yes.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's because you're both HIPPIES!

RickyT, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

would a hippy KICK YORE ASS, Tunnicliffe? if so then I GUESS I AM ONE!

katie, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll take the nice ones, thanks. I don't have time for the ice maiden stuff.

Al Andalous, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

ice maiden bitches don't scream when you vomit on them. they just give you a cross look and clean it off.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr. Hulkington's research has been published in several esteemed journals including Nature

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What about a woman who ruthlessly tells you what's on her mind? (As long as it isn't boring.)

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Thursday, 24 July 2003 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That's sexy - unless what's on her mind is Holocaust revisionism or something (Leni Riefenstahl is HOTT - no, wait...).

Ice bitchiness is a real turn-off.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 24 July 2003 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah... the older I get, anyway, the less patience I have for ice bitchiness. I think I used to find it sexy but then instead of being connected with "the mystery" in my mind and genitals it got connected with "time-wasting pain in the ass" sensors in the pit of my stomach.

Ann Sterzinger (Ann Sterzinger), Thursday, 24 July 2003 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i am nice.
dammit

people being nice

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

StanM, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:53 (seventeen years ago)

That is nice Just Got Offed! Are you seeing her?

Hello Everyone!, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

ice cold demeanor is really off-putting but a certain measure of cool sass / ball busting / real talk is always always desirable

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:54 (seventeen years ago)

the sexiness of nice is underrated

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

not sure though, nice isn't particularly sexy. i prefer grace kelly over *pinch my cheeks* drew barrymore. but that's just me

stevienixed, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

yea my beau is really extremely sweet & thoughtful but he also gives me hell of amounts of sass <3 <3 <3

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

totally. i don't mean you know like 2yr-old nice, but decent person nice. innocent nice. i find innocence very sexy :)

then again i find badass sexy too

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)

i think most people are nice generally speaking and true ice maiden bitches are pretty rare. the latter are totally miserable and unattractive and seem to only attract douchebags and masochists.

bell_labs, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

mr hello everyone, i am "seeing her" as in i am often going for drinks/chatz with her if not actually being in a physical relationship, but things ought to progress once she returns from holiday in 1 1/2 weeks. she knows i'm into her and she enjoys my company, it's about as promising a situation i've ever had with someone i've really liked. which reminds me i shd possibly give her a call at some point, or maybe just text her again? because she's a nice girl, it won't matter which i choose. :D

ffs ppl my crush is demure and modest and ditsy and intelligent and it is the sexiest thing ever

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 18:59 (seventeen years ago)

haha i wrote "ditsy" rather than "ditzy" because that's how she spells it :)

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

i like feisty. not some sweet guy/chick which you can walk over with your spikey heels. no effing way. i like some "bite."

stevienixed, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

mm

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)

IN SOVIET RUSSIA TROUBLE LOOK FOR YOU.

See, the thing to do is get the right combo of nice and ice going. Sometimes you need ice.

Sass is not the same as ice.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

That sounds nice Just Got Offed! It can be a good feeling when there is someone you like a lot and you can feel something beginning to maybe happen. Just remember to be yourself and though this bit is nice don't let it go on too long and end up in the friend zone having missed your window!

If the opportunity is promising then it must be taken!

Hello Everyone!, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

not, of course, that my crush can't handle herself/is a doormat. she's fucking clever, eloquent and self-determined, but uses her social powers for good (friendship and selflessness) rather than bad (egotistical power-crazed ice-maiden). most of my current posting-style can be blamed for being drunk and besotted.

yes indeed mr hello everyone, being myself isn't a problem, the only cloud is that if she returns from her holiday and i let things slide. be assured, we'll be seeing each other again afterwards, and i will let my feelings be known once more, perhaps in the form of a kiss. terribly exciting innit. an ILX cliffhanger

the problem with playing the icy / distant / aloof / emotionally unavailable type is that, while it might make people lust after / obsess over you, it may also scare people

and besides, if you meet someone you actually want to get close to, you're gonna have to melt a little

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

Melting is fun.

suzy, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

it makes ppl lust after you & scared of you at the same time

then you melt a little & they decide you are a pussy & leave you

deeznuts, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

Many of the people who might seem aloof or emotionally unavailable aren't really and can just be very pretty and we project a personality onto them that makes them unattainable in our own minds then we have a ready made excuse for not trying. I did this last year and it was really very silly now I look back on it!

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

kosuke fukudome, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)

the fact she's doing a PhD might have something to do with her self-perception, whereas i find that shit totally wonderful AS WELL

she IS a fitness enthusiast so she must know she's in pretty good shape bodily, but the whole package is totally beguiling to me, and when i said as much a few weeks ago she was taken aback and i had to cool it for a spell (as well as learn for my final exams, something she insisted i do without distraction)

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, but there's a certain amount of self-effacing "omg i'm so not cute" that cute people do because they don't want to be seen as arrogant. it's like "my face? oh, this old thing? i've had it for years."

that said, it's pretty bullshit and i really really appreciate people who know how to take a goddamn compliment when you pay them one.

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

kosuke fukudome, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

all the dudes i grew up with who grew up pretty are now either clinically insane or genuinely good people

but as far as girls go, thats a truth bomb. girls are ridiculously awful to each other growing up & i think most of them end up permanently scarred in one way or another

True.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

and yeah Sur i went completely OTT with a character appraisal, that she's even still interested is fucking encouraging, her exhortations to "wait four weeks then we'll see" were genuinely selfless, necessary pieces of advice, given that i only have 1 shot at a degree and +1 at a relationship with her.

i am thinking hard about whether to call or text her ffs, at least i totally bro'd it down when with her and spoke of loose and pleasant rather than passionately intense things

elmo yeah i know, this is what i'm trying to do, sry but tonight i am drunk and emotional, your advice is sage

jaxon, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

xxpost - "i totally bro'd it down" and "spoke of loose and pleasant rather than passionately intense things" are two phrases that have never before and will never again be uttered (or written) by the same individual.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

lol

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

Sur - I'm sure they're not but preteen girls are surely the worst. I was pretty much terrorized throughout middle school by a pack of obnoxious little bitches to the point where I had to switch schools. I've known similar to happen to other girls but haven't heard of it to that degree as often with boys.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

lj you doin' fine, kiu dude!

elmo argonaut, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

Have other things on the go and be light! Be yourself but maybe less of telling her she is great - she'll know in other ways. Sometimes its good to give compliments not in words - you know how when a good feeling comes but no one actually said anything you just felt popular or liked? Remember how it is actually a better feeling than if someone actually tells you? How organic it is? You can do that to so that she likes it when you are around and she just knows but you've been totally light and you've not laid anything on line and its all subconscious somehow theres just a good feeling when you are around

And then there is no pressure and the thing you want to happen just happens and it didn't even seem like you made it happen!

Hello Everyone!, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

maybe not with BOY boys, but the straight boys aren't so mature when it comes to sharing the lockeroom with a boy of the OTHER KIND

but geez EN that sounds torturous

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

cheers elmo! oh, xposts, cheers HE, she's one of the most positive ppl i've met at uni and i think adopting a similar attitude is the best way tbh!

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

deeznuts, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

ok enough about me and my hypothetical romance, let's all compliment Sur! :D

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know, the boys were bad too. it's like you can't win - a friend of mine developed boobs really early and was mercilously ridiculed. the year after it was my turn to get ridiculed for not developing yet.

ENBB, Friday, 6 June 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

no bell i totally agree w/ that - during pubescence the boys are awful to the girls, & the girls are awful to each other

in general its way way easier to grow up as a guy, theres no doubt

xps

deeznuts, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

in elementary school everytime i raised my hand there would be like snickering in the classroom. you know cuz i was very effeminate. i hated boys so much. and i can't believe it took me this long to figure out how to be mean!

the dichotomy of the day!

i know but these days i sometimes get into like the nasty boys. it's some kind of weird psychobullshit. they used to be mean, so now they're sexy?

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

ogeez louis you just typed that ;)

Surmounter, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

egads! i did! IMO although ppl you know to be negative sometimes have an attractive aspect, if you find someone who's hot AND positive it overrides all the carnal temptations

Just got offed, Friday, 6 June 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

elmo OTM about shit being shared. It's hard to change from being the overly nice person, though.

jeremy waters, Friday, 6 June 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)

five months pass...

I met the coldest ice maiden bitch ever a week or so ago. At a party, she came over and started talking to me, we spoke for a couple of minutes, before she suddenly looked at another dude and went "oh, that's the one I really like". My response was "pardon?", to which she replied "oh, just thinking aloud" and immediately went over and talked to him, without another word.

Cold, so cold. It was kind of awesome.

Matt DC, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:29 (sixteen years ago)

Icemaidenbitches that are honest, don't waste your time, and aren't out to destroy you can be quite awesome

Gino-Vanellyville (Mackro Mackro), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

oh come on women like this are clearly miserable. fun if you run into them for a night somewhere but otherwise dnw

goole, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

chicks like this are way hilar if you can avoid getting caught up some mind-game BS

beyonc'e (max), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

was she inebriated or just naturally rude?

Doing you a favour mate (Dave from Norwich), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago)

There's an obvious (if sick) appeal in winning over someone who seems unapproachable, but the long-run returns are never worth the endless crap involved. Nice people FTW.

Suggest Ban Permalink (contenderizer), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that's evil but kind of awesome.

Nicolars (Nicole), Friday, 5 December 2008 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

don't think either style is intrinsically sexier than the other. it all depends on how you rock what you've got, no?

sexy doesn't necessarily mean you want to interact with someone on a personal basis. this is the concept behind many modern inventions such as movies, television, and the internet.

Edward III, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:46 (sixteen years ago)

the whole thing sounds fakey and put-on 2 me

goole, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago)

I like the part of this thread where pp freaks out with the maiden images

Edward III, Friday, 5 December 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago)

altho when in college a friend of mine and i knew a girl who was extraordinarily irritating, loud, harsh, interrupted ppl w/o a care etc ...and not clueless in the aspberger fashion. i was like "imagine the hideous damage she could inflict on the world if she were gorgeous" and we both sat there in awe and horror at the very idea.
