It figures that the day I have nothing to do but sit around and wait for a piece of software to finish processing, ILX would go down...

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone talk to me!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

10-4 10-4 good buddy

Tracer hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got some lunch from a sidewalk crepe vendor and went over to St Patrick's Cathedral to sit on the steps in the sun and people- watch (St Patricks' is best place in WORLD for this) but on the way I saw this woman, very nice-looking, hair done well, tasteful amt of makeup, searching through trash cans and licking off old ice-cream from plastic lid... it was really crazy seeing someone who looked so "together" doing thi sort of thing so I gave the rest of my crepe to her and she thanked me in a very, i dunno, well-spoken and earnest way... TBFTGoGGI... i sat down on the steps with what I had left, some lemonade, smoked a cigarette, and as I got up to go I noticed I'd been sitting next to Lili Taylor the whole time! rrr I didn't even get a chance to subliminally lure her attention and get her to think I was cute... next time, Lili...

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WOO-HOO!

Has anyone else out there heard the twee-est dance song in the universe, "Smile (Pikachu and the Pokemon remix)" by Smile DK featuring Saxomatic? It's MIND-BOGGLING.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i bet it was teh same ppl who were painting the buses.

Queen G, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See the one time I get an afternoon off - sorry the one afternoon I am working from home and also can't remember the pub address for this evening IL* goes down.

Anna working (hem) at home, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I LOVE EVERYTHING!!

Tracer hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i figured ILE wuz closed because of the queen mum!!!

geeta, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ps: dan: pikachu does his own remixes now?!? that dude is unstoppable!>!>>!>! where do i find this?!

geeta, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank god, what a boring day.

Ronan, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Pikachu remix can be downloaded via this link. Be warned, it's addictive.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

London people, you should be in the pub right now - Glasshouse Stores on Brewer Street IIRC.

Jeff W, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What were YOU doing when ILX was dooooown?

nathalie, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Waiting for it to return. And writing my C90 Go! article, hurrah.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got into an argument on another forum with someone who reckoned (seriously) that the Bluetones are great and Kraftwerk are shit.

DG, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

am starting to feel strange re: what kind of person am i that it's the bum who doesn't LOOK like a bum that arouses my sympathies... musn't think on it too much.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did the bum resemble Tippi Hedren?

Sean, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I keep hiding from the sun

mike hanle y, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was testing software and downloading scary music with Piakchu in it.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh i figured you heard it on GBH, Dan

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They played it on GBH?????? (Why am I surprised, though? I know people who work at GBH.)

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(you know me!)

dan that song: is simultaneously HORRIBLE and oddly compelling!! aghhh!

geeta, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that was meant to be a joke... has GBH changed that much?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

After curling my toes in fear, I proceeded to listen to it TEN TIMES IN A ROW. Clearly I am sick in the head.

Tracer: No, GBH hasn't changed that much, but I could see a particularly evil-minded sound engineer slipping that in as segue music.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The kind of sound engineers we like.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I did my laundry, mailed my taxes, read some Jonathan Letham stories, watched a Don Stroud/Tyne Daly biker movie from 1970 called Angel Unchained. Big, big day. Now I'm staring out the window at work, watching the comings and goings at the bathhouse across the street. It's fun! Jody from Family Affair just walked by Not at the bathhouse, here in the office.

Tracer, you have made me incredibly homesick with that post. Even if it is kinda sad. And I like to think of Lili Taylor as the most graceful and perfect woman who ever lived, just thought you'd like to know.

Arthur, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah she kicks AJ's ass.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer: a well-presented manicured nice-looking woman just HIDEOUSLY OBNOXIOUSLY VOMITED in the stairwell of the (non-gold) (routemaster) bus home from ile FAP V... "This journey just ended," said the driver and we all had to get off and walk. She was really very posh and way totally ill or out of it. She dropped like all stuff out of her purse and didn't even pick it up and the conductor had to run after even (before she noticed the SPECTACULAR STAR and STREAKS of sick) (or the stench, oo-wwee). Anyway, your lady sounds nice but sad. Mine looked nice but was not, really.

And I was sat next to Judi Dench!! OK not really.

mark s, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i got a new computer!!!!

duane, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kissing Kate StClair.

[And faping and going to the dentism and having my hair cut and showing off my shiny new afro KENG watch]

Graham, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just woke up! Good morning! I don't want to go to work today! But, I better because I have next week off.

jel --, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, and there is a titanic battle transcending the sphere of human existence, coming up in Duel round 2!

jel --, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I read TWOP recaps of POPULAR and wished that people would email me but without me actually having to bother to start typing myself. I had some lovely carrot and coriander soup. Then I went to the pub. Then I went to another pub. This is where the memory gets hazy. I am so sorry. For everything.

Sarah, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OH MY GOD IT IS A DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION TRACK MIXED IN WITH POKEMON THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ai ai ai I'm your little butterfly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DIES OF JOY! Pika pika pika pika!

Sarah, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is there a category for 'threads about the boards coming back up'??

Ron, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Unsurprisingly, Sarah was the first person I thought of when I heard that song. (Mark S and Graham were second and third respectively, so if Graham wants to share my wife, not only does he have to convince her and me that it's a good idea, but he must also smite Sarah and Mark.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd pay money to see all this, WWF-style.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and yes Dan, thanks a lot: now I keep trying to form coherent thoughts and all my brain does is go "Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka-PI! Pi-ka-pi-ka. Pi-ka- PI!"

Bitsuh, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's like the aural version of Snow Crash.

Dan Perry, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Would it be cheating to include this in the next focus group? Heh heh heh...)

Dan Perry, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

in ref to questions on other threads dan: 1) i don't know lilli, 2) it seems like the best track in regards to being a well-paid "software tester" (professional video game player) is to find a job with the big game companies -- ie try the west coast maybe. sega ditched out of consoles and now focuses exclusively on software, i would try there (though they don't seem to be doing so hot.) the person i know of who does get paid mad money to play video games works for the sega headquarters in california.

geeta, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
Wheres the song?

Mechachu, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mechachu, Saturday, 15 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm trying to remember how frequent the greenspun outages were - ned, anyone else remember? my memory tells me something feeling like out for a day at least once every six weeks maybe w/ a one day outage nothing remarkable but a three day outage pretty unlikely. they were handy in their fashion.

I just read all posts in this thread thinking it were reactions to *this* absence of ILX, and well, they made sense. Glad ILX is back on track!

Gerard (Gerard), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

Do you know what caused it, Andrew?

stet (stet), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

Massive influx of traffic killed the machine. Don't know where it came from.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

Aliens.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Alex mentioned the other night a UK newspaper, I've forgotten, mentioning ILM as one of the top music sites, so this might explain a big influx of traffic.

as i understand it the 'article' is merely a top 5 list with ILM at the top. it's not online and any worthwhile description/review would've been quoted by now anyway. move on.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 23:05 (nineteen years ago)

I did, back on nu-ilx. It's here. But it doesn't mention ilx, it was only the paper version that had the ilx reference, in a side box, which didn't even include an url, it just named the site as "ilxor".

(xp)

over 500, 000 sales = the Observer, plus the magazine freebie last weekend was OMM

So kitty empire lurks in these circles

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

I can't BELIEVE KE hasn't posted an apology on the board yet...

Eh?

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

KE = Kitty Empire = alleged source of the flood that shut down here. (So were all the hits actually coming from the UK?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

Sometime during the POXY FULE fest, I sent an e-mail to Andrew in capitalized, bold, red letters that read:

NO. YOU TURN BACK YOU POXY FULE!

Did you get that one, Andrew?

That was the hardest day-and-a-half of my life in like, a year.

blood bitch (blood bitch), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I did.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

A flood? I assumed that the trouble was a direct result of the contractual difficulties Andrew was having, although having raised the requisite cash I found it quite surprising that such trouble was indeed occurring.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

Generally I try not to be this openly malicious (heh), but for some reason that post makes me want to claw your eyes out, Louis.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:20 (nineteen years ago)

The feeling is mutual.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

A flood? I assumed that the trouble was a direct result of the contractual difficulties Andrew was having, although having raised the requisite cash I found it quite surprising that such trouble was indeed occurring.

I have nothing to do with the money that was collected. The server issues had nothing to do with the status of our sponsorship.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know why you'd assume that to be the case anyway as the message clearly stated "server load issues."

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, fair enough. Wasn't having a dig, just puzzled, that's all. I didn't get a message, the page just failed to load entirely, which explains my confusion.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ah! Back to the same old same old.

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

It's great, isn't it? I say something perfectly clear and reasonable, and someone responds by wishing me some great physical discourtesy. The wonderful circle of ILX.

Louis Jagger (Haberdager), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I did think that a little extreme.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

I wasn't getting the message about the server, I was just getting the standard "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" message. I figured ILX was down for the count, but on a lark just now I googled "S/D Sun Ra," all ready for my heart to sigh. But lo! It loads!

I'm happy this baby's still breathing.

Yes. And also, an excuse. Clearly Elwood was the wild card in that flowchart. You can't know what to expect from Elwood.

I hardly think that Kitty's mention of ILX in a newspaper would cause such a ruckus. I remember that, when KindaMuzik was mentioned in a popular magazine, the amount of people visiting KM didn't really change all that much. Not enough to cause an outage.

ANYHOOO, thank you for bringing ILX back, Andrew. HURRAH! Hip Hop HOERAH!

i'm trying to remember how frequent the greenspun outages were - ned, anyone else remember? my memory tells me something feeling like out for a day at least once every six weeks maybe w/ a one day outage nothing remarkable but a three day outage pretty unlikely. they were handy in their fashion.

Def not more than a day. Or maybe I'm rewriting history a bit....

ANYHOOO, thank you for bringing ILX back, Andrew.

Indeed! But... what exactly did you do to bring it back? Did the massive amount of visitors suddenly stop just like that? It _was_ a DOS attack, wasn't it?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

Who cares, it is BACK IN FOOL MAC ATTACK!

I was so desperate for company, I signed up to Myspace. But because I don't know how it works, I just sat there, feeling like an idiot because I have only one friend, and he works for Myspace.

ahaha... I also finally, after months/years, found the enthusiasm(?) to get my own fixed up x)

whoa hi!

Eggs, Peaches, Hot Dogs, Lamb (remy bean), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 14:59 (fifteen years ago)

I wasn't really anywhere, I was somewhere else, instead. And that "somewhere else" was on vacation in Michigan after an ENORMOUS amt of missing flights and then hardcore drama on phone with airlines for over 6 hours, and then a 5am departure the next morning. All of these little plays required total relaxation once we arr in MI. Or at least total attention to the moment instead of intangible things like computer land. Still, I missed you all.
