Amaretto Sour. It's bitter, it's sweet, it's a lovely shade of dark amber. And it tastes 55 times better than fuck-all beer.

David Raposa, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Amaretto sours are so GIRLY, though! And there are many types of good-tasting beer out there, you know.

If we're talking straight drinks here, I've gotta be boring: gin martini straight up with olives. DA BOMB, BABY!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh good god, it depends on mood, on time of the year, on the situation, on EVERYTHING!!! Best alcoholic drink is like trying to pick the best artist of all time- you just can't do it. But I'll have a stab anyway.

Most classic drink: Gin and Tonic Best beer: Caledonian Flying Scotsman Best Exotic Drink: "Death By Fruit" (involves various fruit liquers mixed in with a deadly amount of absinthe) Most effective drunk (and least painful hangover): Vodka and Coke

Oh, I could wax poetic all night. ::happy grin:: And soon I'll be able to drink again! Hooray!

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cosmopolitans kick the ass of all drinks, plus they're a ludicrious color - always points with me. And I have a weakness for margaritas. Midori Sours are awesome because they are florescent green and taste like nothing else.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

SAPPORO or ORANGEBOOM

-- Mike Hanley, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Baileys. I mean, obviously.

x0x0

Norman Fay, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It sure as hell isn't a Cranberry Bacardi Breezer. Yuck. It tastes like Vimto.

Cosmopolitans ARE yummy....... I had a gorgeous cocktail made of blue Smirnoff and blackberries and soda called (imaginatively) a black and blue. It was blimming marvellous. Though they stuck a stoopid cherry in it.

But in general you can't beat rum and coke (not Bacardi, Captain Morgan).

Emma, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, cherries are awesome, I will buy vile drinks just to get the cherry so I can tie the stem with my tongue.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cosmo = martini for girls. I therefore HEARTILY APPROVE.

Green drinks also tend be awesome. Has anyone _ever_ had a green drink that tasted like "melon"? (The apple ones do tend to taste like apple, I'll admit.)

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Death By Fruit, as discussed to a muchness on Star Chamber, is indeed GREEN and it is both WONDERFUL and NOXIOUS as all hell. Someday you will all come to the UK and I will make it for you all and you will all gibber and quake.

Ingredients: -2 fingers absinthe -1 finger midori -1 finger malibu rum -big helping of pineapple juice -dash of mango or guava juice

And any other fruit juices you happen to have lying around. Never has a GIRLY drink reduced so many grown men to a state of utter foetal drunkenness so fast. Mwah hah hah!

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sadly my cherry had no stalk, just a cocktail stick. Mind you trying to tie a knot in a cocktail stick with your tongue could result in a fun night out in Casualty.

Emma, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ginger beer and dark rum is the drink of the summer, and I won't hear otherwise.

I would like to point everyone to this search engine that will tell you all the drinks you can make with the ingredients you already happen to have.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't ginger beer and dark rum a Jamaican Mule (with lime juice too).

It is fairly lovely.

Emma, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

gin martini, mixed at home

Jeff, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The drinks I like most at the moment are totally uncool: Kahlua and milk, Malibu straight. Malibu's good cos' it's sickly sweet and [thus] doesn't set your throat on fire without a mixer. And it gives you a good munt. Kahlua's like a milkshake for grown-ups. Wheee!

AP, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn it, Dan, were you there when a friend actually pitched a fit because she wouldn't buy me an Amaretto Sour because it was so "girly"?

Guinness is tar. Blech. All this strawberry nut blonde pale ale stout lime twist spritzer micro-brewery crap all tastes like wet stalks of barley. Of course, most wine (red, white, other) reminds me of a stiff shot of vinegar, so what do I know?

David Raposa, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We did shots of Malibu at the hotel room, it rocks.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Went through a Kahlua phase at the beginning of this year... White Russians at every occasion. But I really burned out on it after a while, cause it's so sweet it's too easy to drink too much, and milk is seriously unpleasant to vomit.

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Clearly I was there in spirit. And tar does a body good! (Well, not really, but I love the flavor of stout. Actually, the darker the beer, the better, as far as I'm concerned.)

The wine thing really SUCKS, as a really nice wine can be a glorious thing. I sort of see where you're coming from, though, especially with a cheap red. In my experience, a really dry chilled chardonnay can be a gateway into a world of vintny goodness.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

[...] milk is seriously unpleasant to vomit.

As opposed o carbonated beverages...?

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Trust me, I've been doing a *lot* of vomiting in the past few weeks.

Coke, or the equivalent carbonated beverage, tastes approximately the same coming up as it does going down, except minus the carbonation. Milk starts to digest almost as soon as it hits the stomach- meaning that when it comes back up, it is a half-digested mucousy MESS.

Sorry for those of you who didn't want to know that. Dan did ask!

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like bourbon and red wine especially. I also like Budweiser and Pabst, but those aren't really alcoholic drinks.

Kris, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Am I the only person who prefers white to red?

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jack Daniels is the only alcoholic drink, I drink.

james e l, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jack Daniels makes me punch people. No, seriously. I have never had an evening where I've started drinking JD that hasn't ended up with me in a full-on bar brawl with someone.

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, you are NOT. Both my wife and I are mad into white wines, yo.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank god. Nothing can beat a nice Pinot Grigio or a decent Riesling. And it has less calories!

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I prefer white to red. Red makes me get awful heartburn and white, well, doesn't.

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Um, all of them? I will drink just about anything besides Grand Marnier, and if I post all my faves I will just look like a grizzled old alcoholic.

Nicole, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's why you only pick two or three, Nicole, like I did, which makes you look seasoned, not grizzled. If I listed everything I've drank willingly in the past month, I'd look like a psychopath.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It may not look the best, or taste the best, or be the strongest (although I would argue it remains deeply dangerous) but the noblest and finest alcoholic drink in the world is the cider armadillo.

Tim, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did someone flip the definitions of "noblest" and "finest" while my back was turned???

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Red Wine = Liquid Sandpaper = dud.

Best drink: Vodka & Orange juice, though an extended binge in 1999 led me to never being able to drink spirits again.

DG, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WAIT!!!! I've just forgotten the infamous "BROWN DRINK" available only at Welcome to the Johnsons on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Or in your own kitchen. Here's how to do it:

* Fill a pint glass half-full of ice cubes.
* Pour one shot of Raspberry Stoli.
* Fill glass about 3/4 up with Dr. Pepper.
* Top off with Guinness.

Yummier than Buckfast and twice as lethal.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bloody Ceasar - w. salt rim, Tabasco, Worchesterchire, Black pepper, celery stick, and mandatory lime slice.
G&T - but it also MUST have a lime.
Amarula cream - yummy

Kim, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Vodka tonics or bourbon, though martinis and straight Stoli are both up there too. Gin & tonic and rum & Coke are the two worst drinks ever. They're worse than girly drinks.

Otis Wheeler, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dark rum is the future, Otis.

Kim, I've discovered that bloody marys often require a pinch of the dust from a sacred relic, right at the very end of the process. The more personal your connection with the relic, the better the bloody mary tastes. I personally use dust from a deer skull that I won as a trophy in elementary school, but I imagine that a lock of Exene Cervenka's hair or a crumbled photograph from a forgotten locket could contribute that indefinable "midrange". Celery salt also tastes nice on the glass.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry about this but: "Worchesterchire" ~ Worcestershire! I should know - I live there!

Anyway. Remy Martin.

I became almost addicted to vodka and Red Bull a couple of years ago, but I'm much better now, thankyou.

And always remember:

Beer and wine -fine. Wine and beer - queer!

DavidM, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

David, I *knew* that would offend someone! I noticed it after the submit button. It was just an honest typo but I didn't think it was worth re-posting to point it out.

Tracer, I love that idea. It adds an additional sense of ritual to the whole thing (and I think it's partly the complicated ritual that I like most) but darn it if I'm not allergic to dust, so I'd have to use just the *tiniest* amount.

Kim, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are all you people mad or have you never had God's own drink. I'll say it just the once and if you don't drop your snowball and vimto bacardi breezer rubbish I will have to take this further.

The Gin and Tonic. (Preferably double, with a slice of lime on a Sunday if I am feeling fancy). Accept no imitations.

Tanya, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've got a thing for Voadka Mohitos at the mo.

Crushed ice, crushed mint, dark brown sugar, splash of ginger ale(dry), lots of vodka, shake.

G&T, tanquery, or bombay saphire, lime and schwepps for preferance, fresh lime juice

Fresh lime juice vodka and soda

I've never ot my head round rum. My dad keeps banging on about martinique aged rum, i must get him to offer me some.

Ed Lynch-Bell, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can't do rum, especially dark rum any more. Oh, the hangovers.

Man, I cannot wait till the Drs give me the all-clear and I can drink again. This thread is making me SOOOOOOO thirsty.

masonic boom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mohitos are mad fun, though I've never had one made with brown sugar before.

There's this place out in Lenox, MA, that serves a martini-style drink called an Orange Bliss. I can't remember all the ingredients, but orange juice, Absolut Mandarin, and Alize are involved. Tastes just like Orangina until you stand up to go to the restroom... WHOA.

Dan Perry, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Prarie Fire: shot of tequila w/*two* drops of Tabasco.

Add raw oyster for what I like to call a "Sexy Mexican".

Tracer Hand, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For reasons of ill health, I've been off all forms of alcohol for more than six weeks now. This represents my longest period of abstenstion since, I think, 1984.

So what, you ask? So, I actually dreamed of drinking a lovely pint of rough-as-arseholes farmhouse cider last night. It was delightful. I must be getting better.

Tim, Saturday, 16 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ameretto sour - definitely. Tastes as good as an alcopop without the stigma. OR A pint of stout with a shot of whisky in it. HEALTH WARNING leads to transformation into an Irish alcoholic wandering up and down Holloway Rd.

zchari5, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, anything's good when someone else is paying.

DG, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you don't like tomato juice, there's pretty much no way to redeem the terror that is a Bloody Mary. BLEAH.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bloody Marys are easily the most horrible thing ever invented. I do have an interesting story though, once my cousin, when he was about 10, thought that a pitcher of Bloody Mary was regular V8 (why he though V8 came in a pitcher and tasted like alcohol, I don't know). He drank the entire pitcher. It was so fantastic how he was pitching around and falling in our pool the rest of the day. We have film of it somewhere.

Ally, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wow. I'm hella-impressed he was able to walk, let alone flail around in a pool.

I've pretty much decided that any drink with 151 rum in it is wonderful. I remember playing some drinking game in a hotel lobby with my brother, my cousin, and my cousin's friend where we were drinking 151. Cousin's friend was losing badly. He got up four times to go to the barthroom:

FIRST TIME - He hopped up, jogged over to the bathroom, jogged back. We continued play.
SECOND TIME - He got up a little slower, carefully made his way over to the bathroom, carefully made his way back. After a moderate amount of teasing due to his lightweightness, play continued.
THIRD TIME - By this point, cousin's friend was laughing like a pederast. He wobbled to his feet, staggered over to the bathroom, staggered back, and demanded more 151. Because we are evil, we gave it to him.
FOURTH TIME - Cousin's friend had completely lost the ability to focus his eyes. All of his speech was wildly incoherent and his head started to twitch. He lurched to his feet and attempted to head towards the bathroom, but his body was so confused that he actually began moving sideways. We eventually got him moving forward, but when he left the bathroom he was back to moving sideways. He ended up collapsing in a heap next to his chair and giggling.
At this point, we decided that having him act like this in the lobby might not be the best idea, so we took him upstairs to my brother's and my room and dumped him in a chair, where he promptly passed out. I went to sleep shortly thereafter, so I don't know the full story of what happened next, but apparently he decided that our room just wasn't puke-colored enough and set about redecorating everything he could see. He may have puked so hard that he shat himself, too.

I think he drank less than a pint of the stuff. 151 is fucking awesome.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I drank 151 and cranberry juice, with ice, lime, and Grenadine syrup last night. It produced possibly the second worst (meaning sucky) state of drunkenness I've ever had, further proving that rum is terrible and 151 is good in flaming shots. Someone who lives down the road from me died from drinking a handle of 151 last week, but they resuscitated him like the guy in Motley Crue. On Saturday, my brother saw him drinking 151 at a party.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

151: strictly for the hardcore! It's a lethal, lethal drink, but that's what makes it so great. I will admit that it might be more fun to watch others drink it than to drink it yourself.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's totally what I'm bringing with me to Washington then. I am forcing everyone to come with me whether they like it or not too. I am coming up with wicked bribes, I just haven't thought of any yet. The shrimp cocktail bribe is played out.

Ally, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Face it, your bribes are terrible, and 151 is worse. I once puked 18 times from drinking that shit, we're talking an accumulated puke time of HOURS. That's what my hippie friends always drink.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Top Drinks? Well, Kate had Caley Flying Scotsman up, but I'd have to go for their 80/-, Bateman's Salem Porter, Pitfield Dark Star, Marston's Pedigree, Theakston's Old Peculier, Courage Directors, St. Austell Hick's Special Draught, Bacardi, Jack Daniel's, Italian Red Wine, Oranjeboom, Budvar Budweiser, Taunton Special Vat, and any Schwarzbier or Rauchbier.`Why? Why Not?! Dan and I obviously have a lot in common with beers, it's just a shame that Kate can't drink JD without brawling. I get like that on Kronenbourg or Stella, so I don't drink 'em now, but what are we gonna use for chasers if we ever end up in a pub together?

Rob Wosley, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I didn't say 151 was my bribe, I said I was going to come up with some wicked bribes while making sure I brought along the 151, as an afterthought, hello.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I've suddenly come to like vodka & tonic, I never bothered to try it until the past couple months because I figured I'd hate vodka and anything, since I can't drink it straight.

Ally, Sunday, 24 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Corona is my beer, Screwdriver is my drink.

Stay simple, Vodka on the rocks. Maybe add a lemon slice to cut the edge.

Ronan, Thursday, 7 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had something called 'blue' last weekend which was described on the bottle as 'chillin' and had kava kava, guarana and gingko biloba in it, it was about 5.5% proof. Now I can't find it in the shops, so if anyone knows who sells it let me know! Ta.

Bundaberg Rum, especially with dry ginger, the pre-mix cans are called 'Dark and Stormy', is delicious, especially with pizza. Although, if the rumors about Bundy making Pauline Hanson in the same way Scrumpy cider made Ian Botham turn out to be right, I guess I'll have to go back to Guinness...

BJ, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ohmigod! It's summer and I haven't yet had a strawberry daiquiri! I'll have to rectify that when I get home tonight.

Hm.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The best thing is that it will be a huge gin-based drink.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well my liver is the size of a peanut and i prefer alchohol in general...even rubbing, goes good with a nice cherry in it. seriously i prefer Julius Echter and it maybe girly but a Pina Colada on a cruise just has to happen.

Chris, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tequila Seabreeze-Jose Cuervo(no substitutes!), grapefruit juice and a SPLASH of cranberry (just a splash!). if you drink Cuervo all night without mixing you WONT have a hangover and the grapefruit burns calories. and yum yum yum...it's the only hard alcohol I'll drink...besides Jager ....i've been getting into that lately. and as far as beer...gimme the piss...steel reserve, colt 45, St' Ides High Gravity......gimme an IV. Beer is not beer unless it's cheap. Unless of course it's Micro-brewed or homemade. I hear Oatmeal Stout and Pumkin Ale are to die for.

Banana daiquiris are, so far, the only kind of daiquiri I don't like -- although I'm not nuts about the White Russian ones, either. But drive-through daiquiris in general are great, especially when served in plastic milk jugs.

Best drinks: gin, but only in martinis or gin and tonics. Tequila -- Sauza or something as good. Canton, a ginger liqueur. Any cream liqueur in coffee. Bonny Doon framboise (hell, anything from Bonny Doon). Late-harvest Rieslings. Lindemans lambics. Ace pear cider.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I get gin gimlets a lot -- why aren't they more popular?? I think it's 3 parts gin to 1 part lime juice. Admittedly dud if Rose's Lime is used but wonderful with fresh juice.

I also order vodka and soda which is sort of an anti drink, but refreshing nonethless. And no aftertaste.

Aaron A., Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I want a gimlet. I forgot that's what the kinda-a-martini-but-with-lime-juice was called. I think they'd be more popular if more people knew about them, but the martini-ization trend right now seems to be more along the lines of "take any damn drink in the world, put it in a martini glass, and called it an any-damn-drink-a-tini." The "Cowboy-tini" I saw the other day was nothing but a margarita in a martini glass, complete with salt-rimming, but it cost a buck more than ordering a damn margarita.

Beertinis are bound to be next.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Gin + Tonic = tastes like pine, but i like it.
Also, whisky sours are great - plus they have the cherry at the bottom which makes them fun.
And red red wine (but sometimes Franzia - yea boxwine! - if that's the only thing available. Which, sadly, is often the case at most of the parties I attend).

stolenbus (stolenbus), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Franzia is only worth it if you blow up the empty silver bladder and sleep on it.

g.cannon (gcannon), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

skyy martini (can't afford anything higher-end), dry, up, twist of lemon, no olive.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, what is up w/ you people and the vodka?

A true martini is made w/ gin and that is that.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The problem I have with grey goose is that its French, I'll defer to the french on many things but vodka making is not one of them.

A classic dry vodka martini for me has to be made with Moskovskya or Finlandia (Russky Standard, Cristal and Stolychnya are all too sweet).

For Gin martinis Bombay saphire or Tanquery (regular strength not export, not plymouth either).

However my favorite martini is a Zubrowvka Martini. Bison grass vodka sets off the splash of vermouth just perfectly.

Oh and the vermouth must be Noilly Prat, Martini lacks something in flavour in its extra dry incarnation.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread turned into a jay macinerney book

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree re vermouth in martinis -- although I've only tried Martini & Rossi.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I say this from a year of living in Piemonte (the Italian half of the vermouth area) and making a brave attempt at drinking my way through as many vermouths and amari as I could, Martini just lacks some of the depth of flavour that other vermouths have and because you use so little in a martini you need a lot of flavour to cut through or you have to back it up with a dash or two of bitters, swilled round the glass then tossed away.

Lemon Russkies (vodka and Schweppes Bitter Lemon) are wonderfully refreshing. Unfortunately the lime equivalent looks like asparagus flavored cordial and tastes like Harpic.

Fred Nerk, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Pina coladas all the way.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Beer. I drink nothing else.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Vodka is foul. You just think it's cool.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel sick just THINKIng about vodka. yuck.

Wait... I thought vodka had an "L" in it somewhere...?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Beer is the superior drink by far, and if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Schneider Aventinus. I will also drink wine, cider, sake, basically anything that is non-distilled that gets all/most of its flavour from what it was fermented from.

Vodka is flavourless alcohol who's sole purpose is to add alcohol flavour to drinks. Or to get drunk.

Which is better, wine, or grape juice spiked with vodka? Exactly.

fletrejet, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i might be about to get back into vodka, after five years of avoiding it. cranberry finlandia + soda = yum.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Glenmorangie. Or beer. Depending on the time of day.

James Ball (James Ball), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think vodka is that flavorless. It's def not odorless. It's the smell that gets to me.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even smell Captain Morgans without throwing up. And its going on 11 years now.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a friend in high school that had to go to the emergency room and get her stomach pumped after too much vodka. Thus, the smell brings back some unpleasantness.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone's ever in Cincinnati, Ohio, you must go drink at the microbrewery called The Barrelhouse, I do not exaggerate when I say they make the best beers I've ever had.

I personally am a sucker for Black Russians (vodka + kahlua no cream), as well as Jaegermeister (my band's poison of choice...if you look at the cover of our CD, our bassist is wearing a Jaeger cap).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Vodka tastes better than beer!

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

>Vodka tastes better than beer!

? The chocolate and coffee flavours of an imperial stout? The banana and clove esters of a good hefeweissen? The superb maltness of a dopplebock? A nice hoppy india pale ale? Compared to beer, vodka has NO flavour.

If all you've had is american-type beer, you've not actually had beer.

fletrejet, Tuesday, 4 February 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing to see who said what when where and how in the past.

I don't think I ever gave an answer? I am partial to a glass of wine most evenings, a beer or two at parties and at least one cosmopolitan on a night out. A reasonable blend.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Beer, wine, malt whiskey. In that order of greatness. Although in the defence of the hated vodka, get a really good one, stick it in the freezer for a couple of hours and then drink neat, now that is heaven.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ordered a frozen cosmopolitan tonight partly cause the mention of cosmos on this thread reminded me that a friend of mine used to drink them, so I figured what the hell. Tasty, sweet/tart, no real alcohol taste per se (which seems to be the selling point of vodka drinks at chain restaurants), but it reaffirmed for me that although I don't mind vodka when I can't taste it, I don't like the kind of tipsiness I get from it.

I should point out, too, that it was really a frozen cosmo-goddamned-tini, and I wouldn't mind at all getting my hands on a gigantic thick-glass martini glass like the one it was served in.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

If all you've had is american-type beer, you've not actually had beer.

I assure you that Rosemary, and most likely any American with a pulse, has had Un-American beer. That does not make us Un-American though. Do people think we all just sit around swilling Bud Light, waiting for the war to come?*

*Do not answer that.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Since I posted once about alcohol and once about adopted-Irishness, I'll also mention that I tried to convince my friends to go to Bennigan's tonight, so I could have their strange frozen mead/apple liqueur combination. I was denied.

The Bennigan's website doesn't seem to include their drink menu, so I can't jog my memory as to what the concoction was called, but I'm sure it was something like the Shillelagh-tini or the Paddy O'Fitzbanger or some damn thing.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I never knew that Bennigan's was 'Irish' until today *thread connections*.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

A different drink for different occasions. Not sure about my favorite. Delerium Tremens ale is up there way above mix drinks.

Worst mix drink came as a result of typing in what ingredients were at hand into a drink database. The one drink offered was:

The Kamikaze: Vodka, Soy Sauce.

...the horror

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

>I assure you that Rosemary, and most likely any American with a
> pulse, has had Un-American beer.

I said "american-type", refering to a style of beer also known as a "light-lager" among other names that comprises at least 99% of all beer drunk in America. It is a pale, barely hopped beer that is meant to be drunk very cold to render it as flavourless as possible. It can come from any country (e.g. heinekin, corona, labatts), but its still american-style light lager.

The US makes some world class beers, too bad very few actually drink them.

>That does not make us Un-American though. Do people think we all

I am an American (yeah yeah I affect british spellings because I am lame like that). Most Americans know shit about food and drink in general.

I had it at a show this weekend and so I insisted on getting a 6-pack of it when picking out groceries last night.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The Mojito. Cuban rum, mint, lime juice, sugar, soda, ice. Mix. Enjoy. Repeat.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

>Have you had it?

Not that one in particluar. From the name "winter warmer" I assume its a spiced beer (and probably high in alcohol), which several breweries make around x-mass. I usually have a few then, but am pretty indifferent to the spice thing.

fletrejet, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

How come beers from other countries are now American-type? Just bc Americans drink them? That doesn't seem fair.

LOL @ Mary! Yeah, beer snobs are a brutal lot...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

In general when it comes to cocktails I am a fan of any short booze combination drink, with very limited fruit content. So Manhattens, old fashioneds, sours, fizzes. However probably king is the Aperitivo Florian from the Bar Florian in St Mark's square Venice. It consists of Gin, Campari, vermouth, and orange liqueur with a dash of bitters shaken over ice with shaved orange peel. In a martini glass, pure heaven. A close competitor is a negroni, which is gin, vermouth campari and soda on ice.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The Kamikaze: Vodka, Soy Sauce.

...the horror
Oh hell NO, soy sauce is GREAT with almost anything. Delerium Tremens is, if I am not mistaken, a Belgian beer brewed for tourists.

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

>How come beers from other countries are now American-type? Just bc Americans drink them? That doesn't seem fair.

Not all foreign beers are American-style beers, just the ones that try and copy the style of bud, coors, miller, etc. Its an "American" style because it was invented by American brewers, and then spread to the rest of the world. For example, Guinness is drunk in America but is not american-style beer because it is a stout: it is dark in colour, top-fermented, is more heavily hopped, has chocolatey/coffeish flavours due to its roasted malts. It is one of the few non-light-lagers with any popularity in the US.

>Which Made in America beers meet your high standards?

My standards aren't that high, I can't afford to drink the best stuff every night, but when I do drink I want something with with flavour. Of the bigger micros, Anchor and Sierra Nevada beers are good. Other good brewers are Ommengong, Allagash, Northwest Coast and Rogue. (The distribution in my state for micros is crappy so I miss out on a lot of good american beers).

>I'm glad you're here to enlighten us!

The American ILX contigent doesn't represent the typical american population, it really doesn't need much elightenment, i just like to talk beer.

The Sunday Herald magazine is claiming that everyone in Devon is drinking, no not the Armadillo, but the Devonia

2 shots cider
1 shot gin (it actually says Plymouth gin, but I'm sure this is a misprint)
1 dash orange bitters

Can anyone confirm?

Who orders a Tequila Sunrise at a bar except trashy hos and college freshmen? And homos. Unless you're in Cancun or something, then its okay, I guess.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Fucking homos. GET 'EM!!!

I like bourbon and scotch. I'll spare you the details.

A martini made with vodka, no vermouth, and a bunch of olive juice should, in my opinion, be given a name other than "martini."

The margarita is the only fruity drink, or indeed the only drink that is a color other than clear or brown, than a man can safely order and still go home with a woman at the end of the night. Anything red or orange and (god forbid) blue and you may as well just put a little dress on and swish around for everybody.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

And it's probably illegal or something :) I'm gonna find some, it's just weird -- it's not easy to find sparkling wine that's neither French nor American. Once in awhile, a German one, probably because of Rieslings being hip, but that's about it.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's what vodka is: distilled. So yes, one tasteless vodka is superior to another, if it's distilled more and better. Tito's is distilled six times.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The best alcoholic drink, bar none, is a Holy Covenant. One sip and you think you're the Chosen of God. I can't get one around here because the pubs never stock any kumiss. Or wormwood, for that matter.

Aimless, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

>Here's what vodka is: distilled. So yes, one tasteless vodka is superior to another, if it's distilled more and better. Tito's is distilled six times.

I agree. I refuse to drink that 99.93% stuff, It has to be at least 99.98% pure for me so I can enjoy the HUGE FLAVOUR of water and ethanol.

fletrejet, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But that's kinda what I'm saying. You want water and ethanol. Not methanol, not propenol, or any of the other nasty shit that makes you scrunch up your face and have hangovers.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

And no, it doesn't have huge flavor, but that's what V-8, celery salt, white pepper, garlic salt, onion salt, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, red peppers, green chilies, beef base, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and tomato juice are for.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm down with vodka as a mixer, and it's certainly the easiest way to turn something alcoholic without changing the flavor.

(I've never had a Bloody Mary I liked, but I think it's just that I don't like tomato juice.)

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't really care about what vodka I drink either. Seeing as I don't drink it neat (or just diluted with water), whatever delicate flavour it has is totally swamped by the mixer's.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It does make a difference in a vodka tonic, though. And even in something as swamping as a bloody mary, higher-quality vodka has a different mouthfeel -- it kinda clings to the glass differently, and has a smoother texture. Smooth being the operative word. For me, though, the real difference is the next morning.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

In the hangover context, I totally get spending extra to get good vodka. I wouldn't have thought of that (I don't drink vodka often enough). That's my argument for good tequila over bad: the leap in quality is so drastic that there's just never any reason to buy bad tequila. You're better off with Mad Dog.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the 'best' tequila? I used to drink Patron Silver, but to keep in my little bar, I'd like something a step or two above that, since home-drinking is rare and to-be-treasured.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 28 August 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 28 August 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

luksusowa is the house vodka of Revolution vodka bars, I was in one of the Liverpool one's last night, and can confirm that slutsky is entirely correct.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 28 August 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the 'best' tequila?

As far as I'm concerned, Sauza Hornitos or Tres Generaciones (also Sauza, English needs to use brackets the way math does) -- I like TG better for shots, and like them equally as mixers. TG mixes marginally better with carbonated drinks -- I have absolutely no idea why there should be a difference with one thing like that, but there you go.

I know a lot of people like Jose Cuervo, but for me that's the bottom rung of what I'll drink -- it's the go-to brand for a lot of restaurants (maybe less so in Texas, one of our Texans could tell us), and it's all right for a margarita but I won't do it straight. It's not bad, it won't give you those bottom-shelf tequila hangovers that're straight out of a Cronenberg movie, but it doesn't have that oooooh that Sauza has.

I hear good things about Cabo Wabo, believe it or not, from friends who otherwise default to Sauza. I haven't tried it myself.

(Then there's mezcal, which isn't tequila -- but tequila is a kind of mezcal, iirc; I have yet to find a brand of mezcal that doesn't have a harsh, almost astringent thing to it, like Dutch gin, making it totally unsuitable for shots -- but I'm told such brands do exist.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a lot of Cuervos. Cuervo, Cuervo Gold, Cuervo 1800, Cuervo Blanco (I think that's the name). I never liked the Cuervo Blanco as much as Patron silver.

I think I'll pick up a bottle of TG.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's the Cuervo 1800 they serve at ... wherever the hell it was I just had a margarita ... and I could tell it wasn't Sauza, if you see what I mean, but it was perfectly fine.

Sauza does do a silver tequila, too, come to think of it, and I'm not remembering the name of it offhand ... there's one that's just "Sauza," and I don't recommend it, not because it isn't good but because the better ones are only like a dollar or two more per bottle, and the leap in quality is really noticeable.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

other vodkas are made with various grains I think. thank you for your support Matt! also try zubrowka, made with "the herb beloved by the european bison." mix it with apple juice and watch the fireworks!

That bison grass vodka is some scary shit. I had one a while ago someone left behind from a party, the one that had the grass blade in the bottle? It made me more hideously bad drunk than anything I've ever drunk before. Brilliant! Tasted good too.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, just give me the cuke. Pureeing it for soup is too much work, way too cucumbersome.

This would have been funnier if I'd said "waiting in line to use the blender is too much work, way too queue cumbersome." Y'all would've laughed like kittens.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh we got it, we just didnt think... etc etc ;)

(jus' kiddin tep ;))

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

You know how everyone's got That One Liquor they can't drink because They Had That Wicked Awful Experience With It? The one that makes them Capitalize Mid-Sentence Phrases? Mine's actually whiskey (I know, I know, it's all right, I'll manage a full life), but I know so many people for whom it's 151 that I've never been able to touch it myself. Cringe through osmosis.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

trayce yes it is the one with the blad in the bottle! I loves it!

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Slutsky - yeah zubrowka, thats right it was that :) Lucky for me, there is *one* store in Melbourne that sells harder-to-get Eurpoean spirits so I can get that.

One thing I've had real trouble finding tho, and as a Mtl'ian you would know this one: Goldshlaeger (sp?). The schnapps with the gold leaf in it. I cannot find that shit ANYWHERE and I really really want to try some...

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

you know I've never actually tried that! something about drinking flakes of metal has always put me off I think.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

this is kind of gross, but do you think your shit gets all gold and sparkly afterwards?

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, you know I never thought of that. I suppose gold wouldn't stay in your system or digest would it? ewwww....

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Goldschläger is grand. It's the world's greatest breathmint.

My Mid-Sentence Drink is Wild Turkey 101, but I can drink that again without getting the shivers. I just choose not to.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

mine is herring

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to eat those silver ball-bearing things that you use for cake decoration and whatnot that you're not actually supposed to eat (I was young, I didn't know), so Goldschlumlautger probably isn't any worse than that.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

also milo, tell us, did you shit a treasure?

(xp)

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Unfortunately, no.

I highly doubt that's real gold.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

you could pan for gold in your toilet! or maybe you did already, and that's what explains the second comment

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry for grossing everyone out

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"dammit, this is only fools shit!"

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

says the grizzled toilet prospector

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

there could be mini gold rushes every night at bars that had goldschlager specials!

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Drink a lot and do some crunches, you can shit gold nuggets.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop prospecting those grizzled toilets!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Once again, I am in awe.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I heart you guys =)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

If you could turn your face into a heart, that emoticon would be <3

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it is real gold, though.

And if you weren't supposed to eat the silver balls, why were they sugary? They were the best bit of any cake for me. Mmm, mercury.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 29 August 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Y'know there's a shot that consists of 1 part Jaeger and 1 part Goldshlager, right? I think that's a Bumblebee?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Vodka is the alcoholic equivalent of potatos or rice.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

in a good way right?

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 29 August 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

It's definitely called Gin & Tonic.

Cozen (Cozen), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Drunk right now.

Started it off with some Gewustesomethign wine, eh, ok, supposedly good with cajun food, fuck dat shit. Switched to a Magnum of Tabernash Maibock beer, decent, solid malty lager. Pretty high alcoholic content jugding by it efefct on me. After I finished that I started to eat some homemade chicken and sausage gumbo w/ some pilsner uRquell - oh yes, gumbo wa sexcellent and th ebeer matched perfectly .... that stettles iT:

Best alcoholic drink =

ALL HAIL BEER!

fletrejet, Saturday, 30 August 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohh man, if you keep your Benedictine in the freezer, it pours out thick, almost like maple syrup. I've always thought that's the way very good gin feels, when it's super cold.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 31 August 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's not two fifths of jaeger & a 12 pack of heine between 4our band members in 5 hours then tonight's experiment has been a drastic failure!

nickalicious on the tweak again (nickalicious), Sunday, 31 August 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ray's Mistake, from Tiki Ti (a rum tropical drink)
Not complete without little umbrella.

chicken tonight (chicken tonight), Sunday, 31 August 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Bloody Mary's for lazy Sundays (secret ingrediants: sherry and horseradish)

Fav drink for a long night ahead where I don't want to wear out the bartender with intricate drinks and I don't want a hangover the next morning: Vodka Cranberry

Guilty Pleasure: Glass of Goodness (Midori, pineapple juice, cointreau)

Other favorites: Sauza for sipping or shooting, ginger and whiskey, salty dog, toasted almond

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 31 August 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
The best drink has got to be a chill pint of good old 'Krongburg'

Michael Foster, Friday, 24 October 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been digging on long beach iced teas lately, like a LIT but with cranberry juice instead of coke & sour mix (+ more buuz).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 24 October 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
Any predictions for "drink of the summer"?

I just blended a cored apple w/some apple juice, vodka, lime, and splash of orange squash and it was teh num.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 7 February 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Emma williams (Emma williams), Saturday, 7 February 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a ginger and orange caipirinha last night that was ace. And a few sips of a pomegranate margarita, yum.

sgs (sgs), Saturday, 7 February 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Easy Hippo Rider (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 25 April 2009 21:23 (sixteen years ago)

Corona with a slice of lime. Livin' the yuppy dream!

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 25 April 2009 21:30 (sixteen years ago)

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Saturday, 25 April 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

i have some port! good call.

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 25 April 2009 21:36 (sixteen years ago)

Lordy, I was in the middle of opening a wine bottle when the phone rang, and then after that I was distracted by the internet. THANK YOU ILE FOR REMINDING ME OF WHAT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE DOING!

Beth Parker, Sunday, 26 April 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

Usually my go-to drink is a martini, with about a cap-full of vermouth, vigorously shaken so that there is a thin layer of ice shards on top. Lately I've been alternating between Hendrick's Gin and Tito's vodka.

However, tonight's drink is probably going to be a margarita on the rocks. I've a bottle of Cazadores silver that is calling my name.

Moodles, Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

Why do those wine-bottle openers with the two flat blades, one longer than the other, exist in the world?

Beth Parker, Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

Those are wine openers? I always wondered.

Full Metal Slanket (Oilyrags), Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

Beth, those two-bladed openers are designed for people who love to solve puzzles, the more difficult, the better. They also are effective at preventing drunks from opening another bottle of wine to drink.

Aimless, Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:36 (sixteen years ago)

Pish, everybody knows you just smash the neck off and suck at the jagged stump.

Eugenecist Levy (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:38 (sixteen years ago)

I always find that bloody lips spoil the taste, but I guess it wouldn't affect the alcoholic content, so it's a fair enough strategy.

Aimless, Sunday, 26 April 2009 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

Our son gave us a rechargeable battery-operated corkscrew for Christmas 2007. We disapproved, of course, and then grew totally enamored of it. It's not in its cradle. Hiding.
I found a regular one.

You can aways shove the cork down into the bottle.
