Denton's interviewing is, I think, vastly overrated. I don't think he gets too many revealing insights, and it's the media hivemind that go on and on about it so every little revelation is made out as evidence os MAD INTERVIEWING SKILLZ that just aren't there.
Rove isn't funny at all and never has been, mind, but he's certainly not a substantially worse interviewer than Denton.

― JAM, DWANGELA, RELLY! (sunny successor), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 23:56 (sixteen years ago)
I dont think Denton's great or anything, but neither Rove - his satellite crosses are especially painful, after all this time he hasn't learnt how to handle the 2 second delay properly, it's a pet peeve of mine admittedly.
He also picks terrible people to interview; Denton might be dull but at least he interviews interesting people!
Micallef shits on them both though, even though his "proper" interviewing was a bit of a comical failure.

rove's show is annoying, everyone is too self congratulatory and too each other congratulatory.
the first time i ever saw rove was on new year's eve 1999 when sydney was staging its huge millennial celebrations and rove appeared on tv from melbourne and said in a proud voice, 'the yarra has never looked browner', i was very taken with him.

He in of himself is, as has been said, inoffensive enough. I think I kneejerk react cause his show has become so inane and shallow over the years. And I rly cant stand Peter bloody Hellier.

OZCHALLOPS = potential part of next mong thread title??
I do think Denton has mad interview skillz, and I add that I say that as a former psychologist. So I MUST know what I'm talking about amirite.

Nothing short of Rove burning himself to death as a show of solidarity will redeem him.
― Bored of Canada (S-), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 02:25 (sixteen years ago)
Denton's interviewing is, I think, vastly overrated.
I get the Denton loathing if the Enough Rope, serious interviewer is serious technique is all that you've seen. His earlier ABC, 7 and Logie hosting work offsets the worst aspects of ER methinks.
Rove, despite his ability, seems to be content to be the crowd-pleasing host of a reheated Hey Hey. I guess asking for his violent death based upon that is ok(?)
Rove shits all over Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady... Letterman/Leno/Conan/etc
