probably, that one sounded pretty bad.

im trying to figure out if step bros really was all that or whether it was just nice to see dudes back on form after semi-pro and walk hard, so dire

yes, bcz Stepbrothers "was GREAT"

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:37 (seventeen years ago)

step brothers is genuinely awesome. the guy playing ferrell's actual brother destroys. also their parents.

it was great! does all my language have to be on some absolute historical, objective scale? cuz if so we're either going to need some new words or i'm going to have to get a lot more long-winded

Almost voted Zohan for the bit where John Turturro does the advert for the machentachen (definite SP) restaurant but FSM was probably the one I lol'd at most plus was somewhat emotionally involved in the storyline. Step-brothers was awesome the first time I saw it but didn't really much rewatchability.

ryan, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

I have seen the unrated Step Brothers, it mainly consists of slightly extended versions of existing bits and a cringe inducing scene where John C. Reilly and the brother's wife hold a conversation with the rest of the family while having sex. You can see why they cut it out.

Number None, Thursday, 26 February 2009 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

step brothers ruled really. i think i liked pineapple express a lot more than most but i have a big soft spot for rogen & franco. maybe it's just that i thought apatow & co had completely exhausted their schtick after forgetting sarah marshall

FSM, but I need to see Step Bros.

k3vin k., Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

Role Models probably benefitted from now having Apatow in the editing room saying "I know this is a comedy but guys, don't worry about making this a tight hour and a half, leave in everything you like"

were there any other off-brand Apatow-ish movies besides RM last year? I guess Tropic Thunder and Zack & Miri? maybe Semi-Pro too but ugh.

hmm I've been kinda wondering about Step Bros, seems like it came and went without leaving a ripple.

The high standards of Stranger Than Fiction.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:47 (seventeen years ago)

if you don't like will ferrell you shouldn't be reading a step brothers thread

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

I've seen part of Step Bros but I was on a long-haul flight and decided to watch some of it to see how cut it was. Will Ferrell rubs his "but-tocks" on the drum set. Also the song that John C Reilly sings at the dinner table is totally different and rubbish.

Blackout Crew are the Beatles of donk (jim), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

well i meant to say I've seen Step Bros but was on a long haul and decided to watch part but somehow I'm crazy retarded.

Blackout Crew are the Beatles of donk (jim), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

I liked "Stranger Than Fiction" right up until the end, where the movie seemed to try to undercut my disappointment with the ending by literally having the characters go "it's too bad the ending is disappointing, huh" which made me actively hate it.

lol i thought this thread was about step brothers

i haven't seen stranger than fiction - basically im talking anchorman, old school, blades of glory (<- hilarious), zoolander, wedding crashers cameo, etc etc

Funky House, M.D. (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:51 (seventeen years ago)

I think Step Bros is pretty on par with most of those (much funnier than Anchorman anyway) but I'm not going to argue with what other people find funny.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:52 (seventeen years ago)

don't get me wrong i like ferrell, but in a different type of role?? he maybe the best SNL straight-man since hartman, i just don't understand why everyone likes him playing a shouty man-child at all times

i'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 00:54 (seventeen years ago)

Cuz it's funny?

come on the acting like a grown man stuff at the end was hilarious

s1ocki, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:06 (seventeen years ago)

Ferrell was never funny. Not like McLovin'.

Nurse Detrius (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:12 (seventeen years ago)

Step Brothers was kind of surprisingly hysterical. I do agree it gets flat somewhere in the middle but I think it rebounds sufficiently towards the end. Altogether more laughs than any other Ferrell vehicle that comes to mind and John C. Reilly was funnier than he's probably ever been.

gotta rescreen step brothers but there was amazing stuff, especially from ferrell's brother and his family and his horrible friends. they nail the 'dbags quoting scarface' phenomenon, fer example.

it was the funniest one

Yes, it was. I haven't seen Zohan, but the others I'd rank in the same order as the poll results.

Drillbit Taylor came from a story written by John Hughes under a pseudonym. It's not a bad story, actually, and Owen Wilson is sweet in it, but the laughs are pretty thin on the ground.

Alba, Wednesday, 4 March 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

both FSM and PE get better the more you watch them, however, I have seen FSM more because we have the DVD of that (3 times in xmas weekend while entertaining siblings/boyfriend!!) so I voted for FSM. It has a DRACULA MUSICAL in it. Also, my brother learned to play the Russell Brand song on guitar.. I forget exactly how it goes right now but it's the one where he basically wants to be in Sarah?

yeah I definitely watched both movies thinking "I like this now, but I'm going to love it once I start watching 10 minutes of it every other day on cable." I thought that about Knocked Up, too, though, and it definitely hasn't had the same replay value for me as, say, 40 Year Old Virgin.

In the movie Role Models, Danny (Paul Rudd) paraphrases the lyrics, stating that he likes to "rock and roll all night and *part* of everyday", as he has errands during the day and can only rock between 1:00 and 3:00.

^this is not clever and is cribbed from the simpsons, right?
