Angelina no question. Sure J seems less uptight etc. but she's annoying looking.

Yeah, same here really.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Monday, 2 March 2009 03:05 (sixteen years ago)

Ugh I will never be on the side of that homewrecker. Also, Jen has not inspired any pycho, unfit, copycat Octomoms.

felicity, Monday, 2 March 2009 06:04 (sixteen years ago)

jen's terrible movie choices are easier to stomach than angie's terrible movie choices. and jen usually rises above bad material (although she was one of the worst things about friends).

How is Angelina not annoying-looking? She's one of the most annoying-looking people in the world!

James Morrison, Monday, 2 March 2009 07:46 (sixteen years ago)

she's annoying looking but i still want to see her in changeling rocking a cool cloche hat and pea coat.

the pelvis of a mammoth (get bent), Monday, 2 March 2009 07:50 (sixteen years ago)

but padma lakshmi does the angelina look so much better than angelina does. (and fwiw, i think octomom is pretty.)

the pelvis of a mammoth (get bent), Monday, 2 March 2009 07:53 (sixteen years ago)

kind of hate them both but angie, just.

jen's terrible movie choices are easier to stomach than angie's terrible movie choices. and jen usually rises above bad material (although she was one of the worst things about friends).

i have the opposite reaction - would rather sit through jolie's shitty action films than jen's shitty romcoms. and i like jen on friends.

Roz, Monday, 2 March 2009 07:58 (sixteen years ago)

i don't really understand how angelina stumbled onto this rep as a *serious actress* when her biggest movies have been tomb raider and mr & mrs smith and her only arty credit is like "Gia"

jennifer aniston is like the most boring, plain-looking (in a bad way) celebrity I can think of. Angie OBVIOUSLY.

Angelina. Jen is sexless.

DavidM, Monday, 2 March 2009 09:34 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah that's a good way to describe her. Also, she was in that terribly unfunny sitcom Friends.

omg so obviously angelina

lex pretend, Monday, 2 March 2009 09:49 (sixteen years ago)

Are we at the point now where people can talk about "that terribly unfunny sitcom Friends" in the same way people talk about "that terribly overrated band The Beatles"?

been HOOS, where yyyou steene!? (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 2 March 2009 09:51 (sixteen years ago)

Felicity OTM. Strikes me that Angelina (who was at one stage genuinely gorgeous) can't be interested in a man unless he's already with someone else, so half the attraction is about starting an inappropriate competition with other women ie. over a man. That and the 'you're beautiful, WAI BOTOX?' thing bespeak a certain kind of insecure most of us learned to diffuse by young adulthood.

Choom Gang Gang Dance (suzy), Monday, 2 March 2009 09:52 (sixteen years ago)

long time since an-jol has been hot imho. and she is not great at the acting.

Judd Nelson (special guest stars mark bronson), Monday, 2 March 2009 09:55 (sixteen years ago)

they're both really boring these days, especially when it comes to fashion, but jolie was at least once hot and interesting before she decided to be santa angelina, whereas aniston was always boring even when she was good at stuff.

lex pretend, Monday, 2 March 2009 10:03 (sixteen years ago)

Angelina has always been boring in fashion terms. Tahari? St John? Is she...50 or something?

Choom Gang Gang Dance (suzy), Monday, 2 March 2009 10:06 (sixteen years ago)

also: wear a colour! any colour! just NOT BLACK AGAIN

lex pretend, Monday, 2 March 2009 10:13 (sixteen years ago)

it's a pity cuz her oscars outfit pairing the black dress and those amazing emerald earrings could've been really striking but all you could think was "SHE'S WEARING BLACK AGAIN, NOOOO"

lex pretend, Monday, 2 March 2009 10:14 (sixteen years ago)

though having said that...can anyone even remember what jen wore. or if she was there. or anything about her.

not recent but not bad

speaking as a mwahahahaha (Upt0eleven), Monday, 2 March 2009 10:30 (sixteen years ago)

when angelina was the right weight she was in a league of her own gorgeousness, but that was at least five years ago. Jen still too thin, but wears it better.

Anthony, I am not an Alcoholic & Drunk (darraghmac), Monday, 2 March 2009 10:34 (sixteen years ago)

Angelina's lips always remind me of Stephen Chow's in Kung Fu Hustle.

doobieborther, Monday, 2 March 2009 13:19 (sixteen years ago)

Angelina no question. Sure J seems less uptight etc. but she's annoying looking.

How is Angelina not annoying-looking? She's one of the most annoying-looking people in the world!

Huh, I don't see that. I think she's gorgeous. Jen on the other hand has a weird annoying pointy chin and other plain features I just don't find her attractive. Angie could do with more smiling and less black though, it's true.

Hey Hoos, don't knock Gia. ;-)

lol i think you're overthinking this. also i feel like he's dated a lot of different "types"--gwyneth paltrow + juliette lewis (wtf!) before jen + angelina.

the phrase "fudge on the low" gets in my head at least once a day, tho.

she used to be. now she's just santa angelina saving the orphans of the world blahhh. but both angelina public personae were better 'roles' than most of what she's done in her actual career (though will second her performance in girl interrupted, which uncoincidentally jived most with her public image at the time)

In the late 1980s and 1990s, Pitt dated several of his co-stars, including Robin Givens (Head of the Class),[119] Jill Schoelen (Cutting Class),[119] Juliette Lewis (Too Young to Die? and Kalifornia), who at sixteen was ten years his junior when they started dating.[120] Pitt had a much-publicized romance and engagement to Seven co-star Gwyneth Paltrow whom he dated from 1995 to 1997.[119]

Gwyneth Paltrow seething over site

Bang Showbiz | 02/27/2009 3:49 PM

Gwyneth Paltrow has blasted critics of her Web site, claiming they "don't get it."

The "Iron Man" actress insists those who have been negative about Goop.com - which is dedicated to health and "nourishing the inner aspect" - do not understand the site's message.

She said: "I think the people who are criticizing it or criticizing the idea of it, don't really get it, because if they did, they would like it."

The New York Times newspaper recently called Goop "fatuous and puzzling."

Toronto's The Globe and Mail newspaper queried its name, saying: "Perhaps 'Any Old Load of Rubbish' and 'Learn From Me, Ungrateful Peasant' were both taken."

Paltrow believes much of the negativity she has encountered stems from people being jealous of her success.

She added: "I think that people like people to stay in their 'box' - they like people to stay how they are comfortable seeing them.

Thoughts on Parenting

This week we have a BE that focuses on the question of how to BE with one’s children. There are some familiar voices below, but I have also enlisted the wisdom of two other incredible women, Heidi Butz and Camila Batmanghelidjh. Their responses made me realize that we are all always in the process of evolving, and you do not need to have children to benefit from these ladies’ amazing insights. Simply regard yourself as the child we are asking about, no matter your age, and see what comes up for you.

FYI my heterosexual yBA friend didn't like it when Gwyneth had her 'person' call to haggle for some super-special goody bag for a party she didn't bother attending, then obviously wanted the bag because she'd seen one after the fact. Kimberly Alexander, an Atlanta businesswoman, also attended Sarah Lawrence. Unlike Holly Robinson, Alexander never had a cross word with Givens. "But we weren't friends," says Alexander. "Robin didn't have any friends at Sarah Lawrence. She made her presence known, but she rubbed everybody the wrong way. At our graduation, they called her name and she was booed, loud enough to be noticed. I knew she had enough ambition to get what she wanted, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but I also knew Robin would do it any way she could. She thinks people are expendable, she uses them."

Danner recounts an amusing moment in her education:

“‘Gwyneth was actually 3 years old when she had a placard that we made, this homemade sign that said ‘You are Polluting.’ And we would ride around Los Angeles where we lived,’ Danner adds. ‘I said, ‘Gwennie, when you see dirty, black spewing out of a bus or a truck, hold up a sign.’ ”

After delivering the instructions, the mom-and-daughter team had a scary moment – when the young Gwyneth proceeded to roll down her window at a stop light. “Before I could stop her, she was saying to this big guy in this huge truck, ‘You’re polluting!’”

estela, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:45 (sixteen years ago)

pro bowl was fun (omar little), Monday, 2 March 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

The 90s were sort of an "adult" decade, you know, in spots, so umm I think a lot of the attraction to types like Hunt or Dern (or Bridget Fonda) was that ... well they were meant to seem sort of adult and smart and capable and "real" or something, whereas being attracted to some curvy young big-eyed starlet would be really predictable and boring and lame? I think this mentality was involved. (Disclosure: I like Laura Dern, actually, and always liked Helen Hunt although I agree she looks a bit scary lately, which is funny cause I'd once have considered her a candidate for Candice Bergen-level graceful aging, and umm Bridget Fonda <3 4eva, though the word "adult" above doesn't apply to her for sure)

I'm just gonna pop my head in here and say that I don't think Jennifer Aniston is very hot at all.

And I'm out.

kenan, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 06:53 (sixteen years ago)

Jennifer seems like the kinda girl every girl (except me) would like to be, but guys don't really dig cause she doesn't ooze fuckability. She seems devoid of sex vibes. Angelina seems (is at times) crazy and you know she'll tear your clothes off to hump you into infinity. Well, at least that's what I like to think so.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 12:31 (sixteen years ago)

I guess in a way Angelina is more intimidating (to a woman).

Putting your rather unavoidably filthy use of the word "ooze" aside, I am nearly insulted. You know, everyone thinks Phoebe is the dumb one, but Rachel is so much dumber, and way more irritating. Phoebe's just the one who can't stop picking up the yellow stones.

kenan, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:19 (sixteen years ago)

If I'm hot for anyone under the sea, it's the black-clad, soul-singing honey of a woman that is Ursula.)

Jennifer seems like the kinda girl every girl (except me) would like to be, but guys don't really dig cause she doesn't ooze fuckability.

Huh: I've always found that most women I know like Angelina better than Jen, on the grounds that Jen seems like the kind of normal/popular girl everyone learned to resent in high school, whereas Angelina seems somehow like something to aspire to, like she's interpreted as having some exotic/mysterious/odd quality ... I guess in terms of high-school narrative this is interpreted as the kind of happy ending where the quarterback (Pitt) leaves the head cheerleader (Aniston) for the cool smart gorgeous weird girl who's always smoking behind the gym.

^^ I do not really respond to this narrative

Also now that I think about it I'm not sure I've ever watched a movie with Angelina Jolie in it

nabisco, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)

im pretty sure the only one i've seen with her is 'gone in 60 seconds'.

Judd Nelson (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

i don't have much of a feeling about her one way or the other, but she is awesome in gia, the role she was born to play. it's a terrible movie.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

Oh AND the last time I discussed this with anyone, I think the guys present were all quite happy to think of Aniston as totally fuckable, to which most of the girls present were like "but she's bland and boring" and one of the guys present who was definitely not named me was like "umm there have been points where there was nothing bland or boring about that ass, lemme tell you"

sorry to be crass but this is important data

nabisco, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

A social worker Nina Borowski is a young bright woman who lives in a cozy Brooklyn apartment. Nina´s older step-sister Constance and her husband Sidney are giving a party. At this party Nina meets George, a young handsome first grade primary teacher who is gay. Nina complains to George about her step-sister who is constantly trying to fix her up with somebody from higher society completely ignoring the fact that Nina has a boyfriend called Vince. During the conversation Nina offers George a room in her apartment as she has just heard from George´s boyfriend Dr. Robert Joley that he is looking for somewhere to live. George not knowing about his boyfriend´s plans is taken aback and after the party the two split up. George accepts Nina´s offer and moves into her apartment. The two soon become best friends, they watch films together and go to ballroom dancing, everything is perfect until Nina announces she is pregnant. Nina´s overbearing boyfriend and the baby´s father wants to marry her. His constant care drives Nina crazy, she leaves him and askes George to help her bring up her child. For some time they live together in her apartment in Brooklyn. Everything is perfect again until Nina finds out that George had a girlfriend at high school and her love for him is growing every day. One afternoon George has a phone call from his ex-boyfriend Dr. Joley who tell him how much he has missed him and invites him away for the weekend. George is confused but agrees to go. Nina feels threatened and gets jealous. George and Dr. Joley do not get back together but George meets Paul, a young actor and the two fall head over heels in love. Nina is very sad and cannot control her emotions. They start arguing and at George brother´s wedding Nina tells George about her feelings towards him. George who loves Nina as his best friend tells her that he wants Paul. A few hours later Nina gives birth to a beautiful girl who she names Molly and asks George to move out of her apartment before she gets home from hospital. The end of the film takes place at George's school. All of the characters go to see Molly in a play. Everyone lives happily ever after.

remember when this movie and that madonna/ruperett evertt were the only mainstream movies with gay in them and it was this weird national moment where the only way we could deal with gay in movies was by imagining them in wrongheaded semi-obsessive fake-hetero relationships

This came out the year before and is pretty much the inverse of what you're describing (not making a point, you just reminded me this movie existed)

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

Oh god that movie was awful.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

YES IT WAS

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:39 (sixteen years ago)

what was the point of that movie

i'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

kevin kline doesn't make bad movies

mookieproof, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

The film was inspired by Tom Hanks's tearful speech when he accepted his 1994 Oscar (for his role in Philadelphia), in which he mentioned his high-school drama coach Rawley Farnsworth, and his former classmate John Gilkerson, "two of the finest gay Americans, two wonderful men that I had the good fortune to be associated with" - unaware that Farnsworth was still 'in the closet'.

apparently the point was "lol Tom Hanks is a douche"

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

i don't remember much about it except the premise was something like "getting tongue from tom selleck will make you realize you've been gay that whole time"

i'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

The film ends with everyone dancing to the Village People's song "Macho Man".

fuck this

i'm not going to pay a lot for this muffler (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

The whole "wait, despite all the lazy stereotypes, he... is actually gay, sorry" thing was infuriating; I kept thinking if they'd done this with an ethnic minority, everyone involved would have been fired.

yeah i remember it getting fairly good reviews(?) and thinking it might be a decent way to kill a couple of hours. i was so very very wrong. it was insulting and annoying.

there have probably only been like, one or two since then anyway.

i thought one of the big hollywood jokes about In and Out was that Klien was and is widely rumored to in the closet himself (no idea if that is true).

one year passes...

Joan Collins thinks there is only one true Hollywood beauty left, and at 77 she doesn't mince words.

The 'Dynasty' actress tells UK's Hello! magazine:

"I have to say, there aren't that many good looking actresses around today. I mean, there's Angelina Jolie and there's... Angelina Jolie.

Jennifer Aniston is cute, but I wouldn't call her beautiful. I think that is why Cheryl Cole is so popular, because she is just so pretty and the public are starved of gorgeous people.

"When I was young, everybody on screen was gorgeous."
