Do you ever feel like some people are fronting about how great flowers smell?

They don't smell of anything to me other than sort of pooey honey or grass shavings. If someone goes, "oh smell these flowers, don't they smell nice?" I'm usually like, yeah whatevs.

I'm usually: they are dying, you cut'em off and rolled'em in plastic. I rarely if ever go to flower shops. They are places of good smelling death!

I'm honestly starting to think girls have different olfactory senses to guys.

I just smelled all the different flowers in that bunch and the ones that seem to smell the strongest/nicest are the peonies (another fav) and mini daffodils.

Some flowers smell like shit though, that's true. Amaryllis literally smell like manure. It's really gross. I hate the smell of lilies but that's because they remind me of the way my mother's hospital room smelled when she was sick when I was little.

Tea roses can be pretty cloying, I agree, when they're bred for scent over years and years and years. That's the classic tightly furled rosebud from illustrations and stuff. Sometimes the older "antique" hedge roses have a nicer, lighter, and more dignified scent.

I think you mean lilies! They can drop a lot of pollen but you can also snip those bits off so that doesn't happen.

We have great smells that come in waves around here. The wisteria were 2-3 weeks ago, now the honeysuckle are blooming. In a few more weeks the gardenia next to our deck will be spazzing out. Gardenia is an interesting scent -- when old ladies wear Jungle Gardenia it's kinda gross, but having hundreds of actual gardenia blooms caressing your receptors when you step out the back door is magic.

Oh yes re Gardenia. It's my mother's favorite flower and my parents have gardenias in their garden that just smell amazing. You do have to be careful with it in perfume though. I bought her an Annick Goutal gardenia-based one once that was just too much. It can be oever whelming.
