We just saw "Twisted" last weekend and I am kind of convinced it is one of the dumbest movies ever made, like beyond "Roadhouse" dumb because there is absolutely ZERO acknowledgment of the complete and utter ridiculousness of the movie's premise.

The best month I ever had in college was when I was dating a girl that looked exactly like Ashley Judd. Pretty, very intelligent, unfortunately she turned out to be a little crazy as well and ended the blissful month with a trainwreck of an exclamation point.

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

On a visit to Heather's place Francis notes that the television is missing and Heather tells him where it went. Francis makes an unexpected visit to his brother's apartment and questions Mickey about his visit with Heather. They get into an argument over whether or not Mickey had sex with Heather. Later, Mickey sees Francis wearing the watch that he gave back to Heather and he finds out that the woman that Francis is seeing is none other than Heather. The revelation escalates to an argument in their parents' home during a birthday dinner for their father. In an attempt to settle the dispute, Frank takes both Francis and Mickey outside and ties boxing gloves on each, with the intent of having them fight out their differences. Mickey drops Francis in one punch.

It is kind of amazing how much I like her considering how terrible some of her movies are ("Where the Heart Is" looooooooooooooooooooooool).

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)

she is really compelling in where the heart is, is the thing! it's some kind of genius, wringing something human and moving from such unspeakable dreck.

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 18:51 (sixteen years ago)

It's sort of amazing, how perfect she is in these bad movies and how she seems to make them less bad as a result ("Twisted" is almost another good example but even her general on-screen awesomeness can't mask the silliness of her playing a promiscuous cop who keeps blacking out after drinking entire bottles of wine and waking up surrounded by the bodies of her one-night-stands/ex-boyfriends).

Plot

Having solved a high profile case involving a serial killer, Jessica Shepard (Ashley Judd) is a rising officer on the San Francisco police force. She is transferred to the Homicide division and promoted to the rank of Inspector.

Her deceased father's former partner, John Mills (Samuel L Jackson), serves as her proud mentor. The recently promoted Jessica finds that she might once again have to prove herself in a department that takes no prisoners.

When one of her many former one night stands falls prey to murder, she and her new partner, Mike Delmarco (Andy Garcia) are assigned to the case. Shepard, who also has a drinking problem, soon falls under suspicion. Three more murders follow, all of whom she has had relationships with.

Shepard begins to experience a mental breakdown. Increasing blacking out for long periods of time. Her father, a police patrolman, had gone on a killing spree back in the 1970s and then murdered her mother. She begins to fear she has the same violent tendencies, and that she has been committing murder in her disorganised state.

With only her mentor's support she must find the perpetrator and clear her name, before she becomes the murderer's next victim.

It turns out that John was the murderer with his reasoning that he wanted to protect her

Ruby in Paradise isn't mediocre. It's pretty great.

^^^^!!!

it's one of my favorite movies of the '90s. maybe just one of my favorite movies, period. it nails so many little things about its characters, their world, the vibe of a beach town in off-season, and it does the whole implicitly-political social-observation thing (imo) with more subtlety and ambiguity than european counterparts like the dardennes. she's totally perfect in it, and my massive crush on her is tied directly to it. (ok, and to her star trek bit too.)

The best scene is probably when a cop she had a fling with attacks her in her apartment after she's consumed a bottle of wine and she passes out in her bedroom as he's advancing on her to rape her, only to wake up the next day spooning with his mutilated body.

That I will not tell you, largely because much of my enjoyment came about based on how idiotically the finale set itself up. The actual final confrontation was pretty great, though.

court suggester (omar little), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

she just for a while was much more famous than ashley judd and that just seemed unjust

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

just just just

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

Charlize's performances are Mr. F.

Event Horizon (Nicole), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:23 (sixteen years ago)

I did not realize that Charlize was also in "The Legend of Bagger Vance".

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

i haven't seen her in much. i didn't know she was a bad actress! i love what she wears, duh.

how was Monster? i still need to see it bad

Surmounter, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know if she's really bad, it could be that this rivalry with ashley judd that i made up in my head is blinding me to her talents. she seems kind of wooden to me, tho

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

CHALLOPS: ashley judd is a very attractive woman and she seems like a lovely person but i don't get this OMG SO FUCKING GORGEOUS UNTOUCHABLE thing you guys are going on about at all. i do not think she is more or less pretty than charlize theron.

i think ashley judd is maybe a person i don't "get"

lady burt stanton (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i was thinking i had caught a glimpse of Judd's glorioius ass in that Cider House Rules movie, but it was Theron. not complaining.

now is the time to winterize your manscape (will), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

I loved "Monster" and thought she was fantastic in it. It was a total Oscar-pandering movie, though (although not nearly as pandering as shit like "Magnolia" and "The Hours").

xp: schef I agree, both are v.v.v pretty

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

i can see that from a sane perspective evaluating who's prettier, ashley judd or charlize theron, is totally ridiculous. but from my perspective, ashley judd.

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

also simon birch + where the heart is = i will hold this against her forever so that isn't helping ashley judd here. whereas charlize was in arrested development and was funny on it.

lady burt stanton (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:27 (sixteen years ago)

judd has always been oddly popular. like i always thought she was gorgeous, but i was always surprised how many people are ZOMG over her.

but yeah definitely not an easy win over theron.

Surmounter, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

i really do think ashley judd is prettier than everyone ever, in conclusion.

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

haha i once got into a not-argument with a friend of mine over ashley judd, he was like ZOMG SHE IS PUUUUURRRRRRRRFECT and i was drunk and said something like "she has kind of a wonky eye tho!" and he was sooooooooo >:[ at me and i was like "what, you can still be pretty with a wonky eye dude, calm down" and it was still >:[ for at least another half hour anyway.

lady burt stanton (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

See, I think Ashley Judd and Charlize are two of the most beautiful women on the planet. They're gorgeous and have amazing poise/style are just really elegant. I like them both a lot. That said, I'm not talking about their acting abilities because I've probably seen them each in about two movies. Chef's right though Charlize does have AD on her side.

OK out of that list - I've never "got" Naomi Watts. Like, at all. Ok maybe a little in MD but that's it.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Friday, 6 March 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)

tara reid is not hideous because of her actual physical features, she looks bad because she is on coke 94/7 and has had disasterous plastic surgeries.

I don't think she was so bad in the first American Pie movie and Lebowski, but I think booze and drug use took their toll on her really quickly. Even worse than w/Lohan.

Ashley would invite the wolf into her home. She would feed it and love it and take care of it. Then she would cry and complain, "what did I do wrong" when the wolf showed its true colors and ate her dogs, cats, and various other pets...of course liberals will never learn that some things cannot and will not change...
