sorry pete.

ian, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

People always tell me that San Francisco is where New Yorkers go to die. I thought that was Boca Raton.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

no, that was an oil drum in the east river

The Prices are .......... VERY AFFORDABLE!!! (omar little), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

How are you defining bay area?

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:47 (sixteen years ago)

9 counties that touch the bay

santa cruz is out

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

So we're saddled with Concord and Antioch and Livermore, then?

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:50 (sixteen years ago)

no wait, fuck that shit

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:51 (sixteen years ago)

marin + sf + peninsula + san jose + any city in the east bay where you can see water

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:52 (sixteen years ago)

San Jose is basically equivalent to Sacramento to me. I don't think it counts.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:53 (sixteen years ago)

anyone can choose to make this about manhattan vs. sf, which I almost did

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:53 (sixteen years ago)

whatever you like counts

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

It would give a more comparable population base ... and we could argue that we grow more of our own food, and it might be entertaining to watch San Franciscans have to defend Antioch.

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

I think I might wind up voting for the Bay Area, actually? Maybe that would change if I ever lived there, instead of just having lots of really pleasant visits to SF.

nabisco, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

they have a river in Antioch. This would also include the bastion of bankruptcy, Vallejo.

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

Nabisco, you have probably not visited Antioch.

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

So, what are we talking about in terms of NYC? Just the five boroughs? Or are we including the Dirty Jerz and Connecticut?

Barackin' In the Free World (B.L.A.M.), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:56 (sixteen years ago)

Not to besmirch The Garden State...I spent four lovely years off exit 9A.

Barackin' In the Free World (B.L.A.M.), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

what about the nyc-areaaaa vs. the bay areaaaa
then new yorkers have to defend new jersey if we have to defend antioch

iatee, Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

Isn't New Jersey where the curvy colombian woman lives?

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

iatee - fair enough.

unexpected item in bagging area (sarahel), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

Not that either one of us has ever skated in any of them.

So I old man skate, carving down the streets of Pasadena. Which is still pretty damn entertaining.

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 01:46 (sixteen years ago)

my take on SF? It's like the worst part of Williamsburg with more hippies and more homeless people.

NY metropolitan area beats the rest of the world, no doubt.

dan selzer, Thursday, 19 March 2009 01:58 (sixteen years ago)

even though i was recently near SF for a little over 2 months, i only really got to spend 3 days in SF -- and that only as a tourist, seeing the touristy things and whatnot. SF was impressive enough, but i dunno if i could really judge esp. since i've lived near to and/or worked in NYC for over a decade now.

LOLBJ (Eisbaer), Thursday, 19 March 2009 02:04 (sixteen years ago)

SF appeals to my innate prejudices, provincial nature, and sentimentality. Must be them little cable cars, dim sum, fog, or some shit like that. Reality probably has little to do with it.

Berkeley native, here. The Bay is great, but the city (SF) is actually very, very small. It's not impossible to do everything there is to do here worth doing in a week...if you're lazy. And last call should never be as early as it is here (1:30am!). That said, the weed is tops and so is the weather August-January.

tea cake, Thursday, 19 March 2009 06:01 (sixteen years ago)

what is it about bay area folks that they must create so many threads comparing themselves to other cities

that's no way to win, pal

I will defend New Jersey! Not so much for the people as for the various landscapes. Fortunately for NJ, I like both largely decrepit industrial port cities and also rolling purple hills wreathed in fog and footed by farmland.

How can there be male ladybugs? (Laurel), Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

haa sf is the most delusional little place - it really thinks its some sort of world city always comparing itself to places like ny and la that just roll their eyes and lol - why dont u try sf bay v seattle v boston - its a good poll

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

you can make that one

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:48 (sixteen years ago)

but beware, jeff is gonna come on it and say something like 'this is stupid'

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

a few thingz to consider--

1) the bay area is barely a real place, no famous people live there except people who are famous from the internet, the weather is some nancy bullshit, and there is no good pizza

2) that being said it is nice to spend a few days there every once in a while, in the same way that it is nice to switch it up and do it with the lights on sometimes

3) to everyone who thinks the as are better than the yankees http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200807143134880 u are the ones who are the ball-lickers

4) finally nj rules, hard, & its whatever if nyers h8 on it, but californians talking shit abt the garden state is almost 2 much to bear--kill urselves

realistically tho along w/much of the bay being quite beautiful silicon valley is the one truly exceptional thing the place has going for it

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

if you are gonna say something crazy like that without anything backing it up, you should at least start it with "objective truth: "

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:02 (sixteen years ago)

go ahead refute it besides natural beauty and technology what does the bay hav that other places dont

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:03 (sixteen years ago)

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:16 (sixteen years ago)

one thing amongst many thats so lame abt the bay - and this goes hand in hand w/the constant self aggrandizement - is that theres just no rigor to the place - people are so busy imagining how sweet things are and being into various lifestyle bullshits that no one has any standards - so u get girls dressing like clowns and calling it influential street fashion - u get freegan tempeh loaf as a meaningful cultural symbol - in ny that shit doesnt fly - peopled walk right up to yr face and dis u - and ty god 4 that

Alex in SF, Thursday, 19 March 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

See, I'm torn.

The few times I've hung out in the Bay Area, I've ALWAYS had a blast, and they've been in different parts
- did Napa (lamest...too much of a to-do),
- did SF Proper (great, because it was the first time, had a few days to kick it and walk around and what not, and my friend had provided me with some Marin high-grade),
- did the East Bay (prolly the best, because I went to one of the coolest weddings ever in El Cerrito, and hung with Bro of Blam)
- did Half Moon Bay/ Santa Cruz/ Monterey (third out of four...too much else going on, and those areas seem even more detached from reality)

But all four times were cool, for sure. That said, one of the worst people I know lives in PA, and his horribleness has befouled the beauty of an otherwise great place.

I think I have to stick with the Bay Area. You can just do SO many things within the span of a day.

This is really like choosing between two really, really hot sisters.

LAs public transit sucks, but only when you don't live near a station or are going somewhere near a station (or both).

To be fair, this includes roughly 99% of people in LA.

But, when I was working downtown and living in Pasadena, I enjoyed the Gold Line immensely. Pretty easy to get from Pasadena to Hollywood, too.

my friend's gf dumped him because, while they were both incredibly drunk, he threw her roommate's cat at her. she is allergic to cats btw

I feel like you'd have to be like 3 feet away or have a baseball pitcher's arm to actually hit someone with a cat

iatee, Thursday, 19 March 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)

cats seem like totally reasonable weapons to me but then again i hav lived in brooklyn for almost a decade now

ice cr?m, Thursday, 19 March 2009 20:23 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think you "throw" a cat--you sort of kinda toss it underhanded at someone.

that's just a guess.

xp: to whoever said Northern Californians are all wishy-washy, let me remind you of the homicidal grandeur of Oakland and Richmond.
