"Are you desirable? Are you irresistible? Maybe if you drank bourbon with me, it would help. Maybe if you kissed me and I could taste the sting in your mouth it would help. If you drank bourbon with me naked. If you smelled of bourbon as you fucked me, it would help. It would increase my esteem for you. If you poured bourbon onto your naked body and said to me "drink this". If you spread your legs and you had bourbon dripping from your breasts and your pussy and said "drink here" then I could fall in love with you. Because then I would have a purpose. To clean you up and that, that would prove that I'm worth something. I'd lick you clean so that you could go away and fuck someone else."

Stonegolem42 (1 week ago) Show Hide+5Reply | SpamI love the remake because it took all of the subtle commentary on religious fanatacism and the paradox between Christian faith and Pagan heritage from the original film and replaced it with bees. And I like how, instead of in the original where he sings hymns and prays for his soul while he's burning (which drove hom the movie's two central themes), he just screams unintelligebly.

Dern are at the speed-metal concert & they throw the mike out to him & break into that Elvis song & all the teenage girls start screaming.

it's solid. i'd say it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from the ads, but at the same time doesn't deliver on the premise to the extent that it could've. Cage is pretty subdued in it, but Heard is surprisingly credible in a tricky role. the main heavy sucks, but Fichtner owns. david morse cameo. needs to be seen in 3d.

On my costume, my leather jacket, I would sew in ancient, thousands-of-years-old Egyptian relics, and gather bits of tourmaline and onyx and would stuff them in my pockets to gather these energies together and shock my imagination into believing that I was augmented in some way by them, or in contact with ancient ghosts. I would walk on the set looking like this, loaded with all these magical trinkets, and I wouldn't say a word to my co-stars or crew or directors. I saw the fear in their eyes, and it was like oxygen to a forest fire. I believed I was the Ghost Rider.

This style, if you will, or programme, is really teaching how not to act, and how to utilise your dreams, power objects, even taking weekends to experiment with imagination and finding ways of infusing your performances with those experiences so that it's no longer acting but truth. Acting implies lying in some way - Olivier said as much in his autobiography, and I don't want to lie. Thankfully Sean Penn said that Nicolas Cage is no longer an actor, and that's what I want. I want to find a way to make it more truthful. This style is stimulating your imagination to be more truthful in the words and the movements.

Cage, if deals close, would star as actor Nicolas Cage. The character is desperate to get a role in a new Tarantino movie while also dealing with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter. He also occasionally talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore. The Cage character is also under a mountain of debt and finds himself forced to make an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who happens to be a fan of Cage’s work and secretly hopes to show him a script on which he’s been working. While he bonds with the man, Cage is informed by the CIA that the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential nominee and is recruited by the U.S. government to get intelligence. The situation spirals even more dramatically when the Mexican brings over Cage’s daughter and his ex-wife for a reconciliation, and when their lives are on the line, Cage takes on the role of a lifetime.

It doesn't sound a million miles from JCVD, but on a more epic scale. I hope there's a scene where he reveals that he didn't want to say "who burned the toast", and he didn't realise the cameras were running when he said "vive la fuckin' France", and that Werner Herzog told him that all the audio for Bad Lieutenant was being dubbed in post, so he just delivered placeholder lines, and that he was goaded into overacting. And that deep down he plays with model trains, just like ordinary men.
Given the fact that pop stars often give private concerts for billionaires, I wonder if Nicolas Cage actually does do private Shakespeare readings for rich people, and if he has to rewrite Shakespeare so that it has "blue" language such as fucking etc.

genuinely curious if this movie is any good or not because it looks really interesting and most of his "normal guy" roles wind up getting really weird at some point

I enjoyed it. He's still being "weird Cage" but it's a different take on it, and the story's fun while being a well-nuanced take on the phenomenon of memes/unwitting celebrity/"cancel culture" etc

The other day I put Renfield on in the background and sorta half-watched it, and that was pretty enjoyable -- like if the Deadpool movies made peace with the fact that some part of the audience is gonna think "This is so stupid" and didn't try to convince them that actually I am a very intelligent movie tyvm
Not sure how essential Nic Cage's presence was, but he did get me to watch a movie I otherwise would have ignored.

Renfield felt like it was trying to split the difference between being an action-comedy, a horror-comedy, and an action-horror, and had to sacrifice 30% of the power of each to get there. Didn't go hard enough for me, I guess. I do agree that it was good that they didn't try to make it "intelligent". Both Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult were solid. A few decent laughs. I don't regret watching it, but I don't think I will again.

watched Dream Scenario, thought it was decent but got the suspicion that it couldn't decide if it was trying to make any internal sense or not. there were a lot of intriguing questions raised, particularly why some people were getting the dreams but others weren't, but it all kinda got swept under the rug with the 3rd act which felt like the SNL version of a Vanilla Sky type plot twist, at the end I thought that maybe the dream technology was actually being beta tested on Nic Cage without his knowledge but nothing really indicated that was actually the case
Cage himself is really good in it though, bit of a Paul Giamatti type character, a guy who's just so dull and utterly uninteresting that he makes people kind of uncomfortable. he's so great at playing these characters that you really want to see less of, which I guess was kind of the point of the movie. idk if I recommend it exactly but it did have a lot of good bits. also Michael Cera shows up playing a very Michael Cera type character.

The Surfer was really good, reminds me a lot of Wake In Fright and The Swimmer. Recommend it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRM0Egw8cxM
