The all-star thing was insane. I thought Santino was unbelievably obnoxious, and I *loved* him when he was on the show. He was so shitty. Also, I thought Uli's stuff was underappreciated. Maybe not the best, but good. Better than Sweet Pea's, or at least more my style.

Of the new show, I really thought it was a massive sea of pretty good, and I even kind of liked the two last place dresses. I thought that dude made a pretty awesome last minute replacement dress considering his fabric limitations. I liked crazy lady's dress more than Qcryrwstl's dress, which I think was clearly the one that produced the biggest negative reaction.

Does there always have to be a crying guy? Watching that guy cry was so boring.

i thought they were going to keep her around for 'omg wtf did u do!?' lols for at least a few episodes! i was kind of confused by her dress as a red carpet look (but thought it could stand out ok as a non-red carpet look) but the pink thing totally makes sense and now i feel it more.

Totally thought Nina Garcia with Ari was going to be like Barney Frank with that LaRouche supporter, "lady discussing fashion with you would be like arguing with a dining room table. . ."

The Iranian girl was super-cute, which combined with how young she is made me thing she was a total goner, but she had a cute design with that sweet hood/train.

All the closeups on the judges were driving me crazy.

yeah i did feel like they didn't show enough of the dresses. i feel like they showed the same shot of heidi reacting to 4 different people. lol editing.

also i felt bad that ari styled her model like carrot top bc i think the model actually looked really interesting.

When one of the judges (Kors?) was saying how the person wearing the dress had to like it, I was lolling at her model's facial expression of panic mixed with disgust.

Lohan was remarkably non-terrible as sleb guest judges go!

she just looked so scared that she was wearing an awful dress and probably going home :( poor girl.

I want to like Qristyl because I feel compelled to cheer for the token plus size designer, plus she seems nice, but I got a real floral bedazzled Lane Bryant kind of feel from her dress/other designs/personal clothing decisions and that is just gross. I'm still glad she didn't go home, though, although I'm not sure that Ari Fish or Pantyhose Caftan Man (I really liked the dress he originally tried to make) deserved it any more than she did.

Gordana and Irinia were my favorites. The meth addict was really getting on my nerves, although I recognize that it might have been editing.

Totally worth it just to hear that. Also classic Top Chef comment this week with loser opining that her flavors might have been "too unusual" for the judges.

I liked it when Malvin told himself the little joke about how the other designers had yet to crack the egg and then emoted a little bit in response. I think the judges are doing that thing where they think Mitchell is going to produce something wonderful once he gets his bearings, so they are keeping him around. I would have liked to see the bowling ball bag dress designer go home. That was horrid in design and construction and concept.

I was also annoyed at some of the designers getting all horrified and shocked about pregnant bellies, and amazed that they might, in this competition or in real life, one day have to design for someone who isn't 5'8" and 102 pounds. Also the models in their padded bellies all looked like late stage alcoholics with their spindly limbs and disproportionate guts. Also somebody send the designers a memo that when you have a protruding body part, be it a pregnant stomach or a big butt, you have to adjust the hem accordingly.

I finally watched the all star show. I thought Korto was going to literally kill Daniel on the runway. I also thought his clothes were silly, but what the hell do I know. Chris describing Santino as a "tornado in a hat" was great. Speaking of Chris, he needs a C-PAP machine or something, the poor guy.

yeah, the judges commented that not-kenley's tiered hem was nice because it allowed for body shape changes, but i thought it looked a bit sloppy. i guess you can get away with that with a nightgown, though?

korto got robbed on the all star. chris march, too. i did not like daniel's clothes, nor did i think they were particularly innovative. the dress was cool but a little michael jackson.

I liked Daniel's stuff a lot more than what he showed at Bryant Park on the show, at least.

Haha not-kenley. I remember that her name is Louise because she, like Louise Brooks, has a brown bob. Also presumably like Louise Brooks she is a fan of 1920s fashion.

And also because I love the name Louise and had planned to name my future hypothetical daughter Louise.

Korto's second place RAGE was pretty funny when she didn't win and I think that's why it was so great to see Daniel win. To be fair his outfits were pretty cute and he's definitely grown a lot since he was on the show - something which was harder for Korto since she was *just* on the show, right? Her snide under-the-breath comments were pretty out of character, I thought, considering she spent most of the episode talking about how her child is more mature than most of the contestants.

Yeah -- I just learned how to sew last year, and that is v. basic Sewing 101 type stuff. I thought most of them would have been taught that at design school or at their internships.

I think it comes from designing for one specific body type that traditionally lacks any significant protrusions, and is why so many of the designers flip their wigs when the challenge involves fitting anyone other than their models.

Which, when you think about it, is really ridiculous. If you believe the media, all of North America and select parts of Europe and the British Isles are about to collapse into dark matter under the weight of the frightfully obese population, which would mean that any designer who wants to move beyond designing small lines for small people who shop at small boutiques is going to have to figure out how to work a princess seam/bust dart/waist-hip ratio with equanimity instead of acting like accommodating a baby bump in a dress design is akin to harboring a serial killer fugitive in your basement.

yeah, but they all want to be big name designers that show on runways and in fashion mags and don't have to worry about that :(

No doubt, but some of these people are going to be lucky to get a job in-house at Jacqueline Smith for K-Mart so they ought to get over themselves.

Louise = Kenley's look + Stella's voice and manner

i hate louise! i hated her from before she even started talking. when i found out she was kenley II, i started to outright loathe her.

that whole alt-retro-"rebel" type irks me something INSANE. when i was in college, not so much. but now...

I think Kenley is a way, way better designer than Louise based on what I've seen so far.

She was also way way more annoying.

Kenley is maybe the most annoying person in the history of the show, so it would be hard for anyone to really compete with her.

Yeah Santino was really obnoxious on the All Star show, but he was so awesome in his original incarnation that I can forgive him.

How weird that in both PR and Top Chef someone from a top team was then put in the bottom group. I don't think I've ever seen it before, and it happened on both shows on the same week!

I was biased against Mitchell from the get go because he looked like a less fugly version of Perez Hilton. Unfair I guess, but I really hate Perez.

Well he did blame that monstrosity that was his first dress on the model being bigger than what she was supposed to be. Which was pretty lame, because even if she was he could have either adjusted the fit or improvised something new that didn't look like a tent. It's not the model's fault that he can't sew or think on his feet.

I don't watch the model show, but apparently he then proceeded to completely dick that model over when they did the next model choosing. Kind of annoying that they do the model choosing on the model show, frankly.

I was playing World of Warcraft and a guy in my guild was talking about how his wife was watching this last night. Other people proceeded to start loudly ridiculing the show as silly and I was sitting there thinking, "We are attempting to kill a giant centaur with killer hobgoblins on its back and you are making fun of something else as being silly????"

Just weight until we get to the WoW design challenge! It won't be so silly then.

She seemed determined to take everything Epperson said the wrong way and refused to really have any sort of dialogue w/him -- it looked like he was trying but she was really nasty to him. I'm surprised they were able to get anything done.

I liked most of the avant garde outfits (except for epperson/qristyl and the winning one) but apparently in PR-land one part of the dress being puffy = avant garde. I thought that Nicholas and Gordana's avant garde outfit actually pushed the envelope a bit and came up with a unique design concept.

I really hope that next week is "design a dress out of cardboard" or something, these challenges have been too easy.

Yeah the challenges aren't really very challenging...I still long for the Season 1 challenges, like, GO INTO THAT CORNER STORE AND MAKE A DRESS OUT OF WHATEVER YOU CAN FIND IN THERE. Or the MAKE A GARDEN PARTY DRESS OUT OF...GARDEN!!! And honestly, I don't think any of the judges are giving a crap about finish anymore. The fact that Ra'mon's avant garde lettuce neoprene nightmare gets props...for what? for poofing out and pleating a few pieces of neoprene and throwing some dye on it?

So glad to see the back of Mitchell. Pathetic waste of space, that one. And Qrystal...jeez. Epperson's only telling you how to sew because YOU CAN'T. He's seen what you've sent down the runway so far and he's covering his damn ass, you silly bint.

I definitely did not understand the appeal of the neoprene thing. I feel a little more sympathetic towards Qrystal, though. Maybe because I occasionally have the pleasure of interacting with men who have no concept of dealing with women as professional equals and I could really identify with the frustration she expressed, regardless of how ill founded it may have been.

Yeah it was hard to tell who was at fault in the Epperson/Qrystal thing (was he domineering? was she defensive? is she just a talentless hack? it's hard to tell from what they are showing.) Generally Epperson comes off as pretty likeable and Qrystal comes off as well someone named Qrystal.

yeah the editing made that situation a little difficult to parse, but qrystal just seems dumb and talentless whereas epperson seemed insanely frustrated, so i sided with him.

I just think that the person who is the team leader should be in charge, and the other person should simply offer constructive criticism. Wasn't Qrystal in charge? Epperson should have just done everything he could to help her refine her vision, not try to take it over. Supporting team members are never sent home on team challenges if they work hard and can demonstrate the smart choices they made.

That's totally logical, but it's easier said than done when you are watching some dumbass fuck something up.

I loved when the judge said she hated Logan's prom dress but that she loved his pants and sneakers. He did look pretty good in his silver pants. I really hope Johnny is the next to go, he's so tiresome. Glad to see the back of Qrystil. If she had swapped her attitude:taste proportions, she'd have been okay. I did not understand Althea's skirt at all...it looked wrong. I liked Daryl/Carol Hannah's dress more. But I also feel vindicated by my love for Epperson. (Heidi's boob comments were pretty lol)

My folks and I were watching this week's episode and we all agreed that Althea's suit dress looked horrible coming down the run way. (the one pictured above). The tank top fit terribly. You can't see the back of that outfit but I remember pointing out that it looked terrible as well. Probably because the matchup of a suit jacket + a casual skirt thingy

yeah that one dress looked like a couple of strategically placed lettuce leaves. and epperson's model definitely needed some more action up top, her super-flat chest in that tight dress made her proportions look out of whack.

I definitely don't get the Qrystal-is-a-bitch thing (I mean, she and Epps seemed to have made up, and she wasn't the one saying mean things about other people's designs, was she? (I know some people did, but I wasn't looking at the time and missed who said what)), but BUT it was definitely her time to go. The dress was boring (DON'T BORE NINA. Even when she is not actually present for the judging), and her choice of personal clothing for the runway just validated the suspicions I had about her taste from the beginning.

I think I've given up trying to understand what the judges see in the winning designs. Between last week's neoprene nightmare and this weird suit-in-a-blender thing... This probably explains why shopping gives me agida these days, though. Clearly the people who are in charge of deciding what is in style have polar opposite tastes than I do. For example, I um, kind of liked silver pants straight boy's goth prom dress.

I thought Nicolas's dress looked amazing. I liked Carol Anne's, too.

Oh I watch the show once Lifetime puts it up online, so I usually get around to watching it Saturday.

I agree. Sometimes I wonder if they just haul the male designers over the carpet for this because it's better tv, as if it's assumed a female designer does it 'on purpose'. But yeah, Althea's model was the classic 'two puppies fighting under a blanket'. Not a good look.

I liked that Christopher's dress actually moved. That it wasn't so weighed down with paste/dye/paint...that it was sort of freed a little from the usual 'paper' constraints. But I kind of like that costumey quality to it, maybe I'm just easy to please, lol.

Yeah I like Christopher - or maybe I'm just pleasantly surprised that most of his designs so far actually do have some potential and are not completely Midwestern gay. Besides, Ramon and Nicholas are both way more far up their own asses and thus more annoying. kinda hate irina too (this is more of an irrational dislike though - she reminds me of someone I can't stand IRL) but I dug the coat she made as well as Carol Hannah's dress.

My thing is if a designer is douchey in the interviews and general disposition, they better back it up on the runway. I can handle a d-bag/drama queen then, because then I don't care what they're like, it's all in the work. So Christopher, Ra'mon, Irina, Althea, Epperson and that Daryl Hannah chick all have my maximum respect because they seem committed to the task, no matter what, and they consistently show me something (excusing Ra'mon's bowling ball dress which was a major fail). Nicolas gets no love from me, and Shirin better show me something because I could happily lose them both. Faux-Kenley just seems straight up boring now...does she even know how make something that hits at anything other than mid-thigh?

bummed. Ra'mon made me totally love him with this challenge. I hearted him so much for trying to do his Borg/Predator/Gaultier bobsled jumpsuit. But I had bad feelings when he ditched and redid the dress. I get why he went home, but it makes me sad...I really, really REALLY did not want Nicolas to win. Not that his costume wasn't a straight up costume with a capital C...but too me it was the kind of crowd-pleasing 'sci fi' that reminds people of Narnia. Damn you Ramon for not giving them the full Borg treatment. He should have Pwned that challenge.

Absolutely. Christopher's dress was A*MAZING...as was Epperson's denim beauty. It is a travesty that Nicolas and his chintzy icequeen won. He executed well but damn if Christopher and Epperson didn't go the extra mile with theirs.

ra'mon did seem nice. but i kept waiting for him to bust a move and he never really did. i think he does have cool ideas in that head of his, but execution-wise...maybe not so much.

cuz that's basically what the judges were like: aw, you seem nice and we can tell you are trying and have interesting ideas, but....

do you notice how when epperson shows tim what he's working on in each episode tim just kinda backs away and says something like: you just keep doing what you're doing. you can tell that he respects his work a lot.

you can just tell from the finishing, his execution, and that awesome quiet way he just goes about his business, that he is up to his neck in talent. I hope he doesn't falter, I would love to see Epperson go all the way.

He is my favorite. I think Christopher and Carol/Hanna are talented as well but they both are slightly annoying on a personal level so I can't root for them the way I do for Epperson.

Plus on a boring sewing level Epperson's dresses seem to have much more sophisticated finishes and embellishments, which I'm surprised he is able to pull off in the amount of time allotted.

OTM. His finishing skills are pretty hardcore, or seem to be. Part of it is obviously that he maximises the time he has to complete whatever he plans to sew...but I wonder too if he's been at it longer than a lot of the other 'kids', so doesn't waste half the challenge draping or whatever. Definitely the zen guru of the sewing room though, that's for sure.

Epperson was robbed. That dress was amazing. I liked Christopher's and in this context, I was willing to forgive his anachronistic liberties. If I had seen that dress in a movie that was ostensibly about a Victorian vampire bride, however, I would have an irritating little shit fit about the halter. Also he lost points with me for essentially introducing his character pitch by saying, "I'm kind of dumb about history things, but here's what I did! Dur hur!"

Nicholas's was okay, but yet again, I'm left scratching my head about the judges' pick. I don't think it was all that creative. Ice queen? Come on. Done to death. And despite my X-men knowledge, I'm actually not a big sci-fi/fantasy geek, so it's not like I'm so genre-weary that I've seen it all before.

I hate to say it, because I really want to like Louise, but she probably should have gone home for the sheer fact that she was unable to cough up anything even remotely acceptable for a challenge that was more or less designed to showcase her ostensible strengths. I knew Ra'mon was in trouble the moment he said bodysuit, because when you see them in actual scifi shows, they only function as a way to show off the actress's body, not as actual fashion. And when he said his character was from another planet, I knew he was going to make something that would've looked like this.

Really, really disappointed neither he nor Dickolas went with futuristic military uniform for scifi -- that's *much* easier to pull off without looking terrible. And the ice queen faff? It's way too insubstantial to hold up as a film costume, fantasy, scifi, whatever the genre.

I felt bad for Christopher and Epperson. The outifts were, odd...I don't get badly made. And honestly, I couldn't stand Carol Hannah's pieces. It looked like the same kind of jersey nightmares I see every day at the mall. Which is maybe what they wanted, I don't know. But the hem on that 'sweater dress' was godawful. Irina's dress was nice, but if Epperson and Christopher don't go together, I don't see how Jordana and Irina's pieces go together either. If you're gonna be bitchy about it. They obviously couldn't work as a team, and barely squeaked by with finished product.

the shirt dress would have been improved by a different, not-shiny fabric -- I'll give Christopher credit for construction because shirting is pretty difficult. I didn't mind the bottom of the other dress, but the drapey top & bib was way way too much. and again, too shiny.

it was definitely time for louise to go, though -- it was the second challenge in a row that she just failed to comprehend what was expected. and those dresses were really awful.

This was the first week that I actually agreed with the judges' decision, so I guess there's that. I had high hopes for Louise because we have similar tastes, but yeah, those two dresses weren't great. I would probably wear the shower loofa dress with a few modifications, though, such as removing the happy trail down the front.

I honestly liked both of Irina/Georgiana's looks but DID YOU SEE IRINA'S INC. HOLIDAY DRESS??? You want to talk about cheap, tacky jersey bullshit? Holy cats. It involved a SEQUINED BUTTERFLY. It is seriously, hideously offensive and it makes me angry at, in this order: fashion buyers, Macy's, Inc., Project Runway judges, the inventor of the Bedazzler.

Heidi was being really unnecessarily cruel. The British judge even looked a little remorseful.

I got the impression that the producers had planned to send both members of the losing team home, but since that catty little Nicholas had immunity, he got to stay. Hence Heidi's repeatedly telling him how very, very luck he was. Maybe that's why she was being so mean - she thought she'd get to send two designers home and was full of rage at being thwarted.

My biggest disappointment was that Althea wasn't in the bottom two so I could hear Michael Kors say, "Slutty, slutty, SLUTTY!"

I got spoiled on Epperson's elimination, so clearly it did not come as a shock. But this was the second time that Logan followed his client's direction to ugly ends -- surely that's a more urgent reason for elimination in a design competition?

Now that she's won two challenges, the added arrogance and hauteur has made Irina's voice one jillion times more annoying. Right now I'd take Neekohlass and Kenley dueting to sentimental ballads than hearing Irina.

also I hate books 'authored' by star 'with' someone else. it always makes me wonder how much they actually did. I mean, unless it's like some old basketball legend telling his story to a journalist because his hands aren't so good for writinig anymore...but young up and comers? wtf. write, or don't write.

i think it's more that those people have no writing talent but 'have something to say' so it makes it easier for editors/publishers to just have someone else do the writing from the get go.

Man, there is something about these designers that just sucked the excitement out of this challenge. Those were some pretty average Bob Mackie/Christina Aguilera outfits, by and large.

I couldn't believe how boring and uninspired these outfits were. This was a Bob Mackie/Aguilera challenge, it's a license to go crazy! Most of the dresses did not show enough skin for the stage, and they just weren't wild enough. Ra'mon and Epperson both probably would have knocked this one out of the park.

Oh, and I hope Irina ends up marrying Mike Isabella and they can have hateful babies together.

totally OTM! he told them to create something for a goddess from another time or universe! this is friggin' BOB MACKIE! and that's what they came up with? such duds. they are all pretty boring. and no great talent in any of them either. three of the women on this show are decent dressmakers and that's it. but nobody has any true creativity or vision.

I almost tolerated Nicolas this week. I think he could have won if he had taken that outfit a couple more levels up...at the end of the day, when your'e talking bmack/xtina, that was really JUST a dress. But his, um, 'aesthetic' really was pretty spot on. I liked his feather work a lot.

It's like being asked to come up w/a 4-course meal and making an ice cream cone.

I loved Bmack's comment to Christopher about the corset: "I wouldn't put that on a chorus girl BEHIND the singer." And Christopher's plaintive 'My pride..."

What happened to Christopher, anyway? I think maybe he just has/had a couple of good ideas.

Part of it is I think the self-taught factor. Now, Jay McCarroll was self-taught but he came to the show with a solid skillset, including knit/quilting which really helped him with construction...I don't think Christopher has a deep enough well of skills to draw on for each challenge. I mean, I don't know a lot about his background, but he just seems to really be in the weeds now, and I'm not sure he's got that much to draw on..he fired his big guns early on and that's all he's got. Imho.

I don't why people whine about it being on Lifetime. In fact I'm pretty sure the season was mostly if not completely filmed before they even knew which network would end up airing it. And it's still produced and edited by the same groups...

I thought Althea's dress was the best, maybe Carol Hannah's dress looked better in person but on TV the feather detail looked cheap. Shirin's dress was awful and she deserved to go home but Logan's latest free pass bugged me more.

Moving to Lifetime is much less of an issue than it moving to Los Angeles, imo.

i think this show is exactly the same as it would have been on any network.

I was also charmed by Nicholas! He was so cute about Bob Mack and whatserface, although were they really the biggest stars to appear on Project Runway? I also enjoyed Tim getting bitchy in the work room. I miss Michael Kors. I don't really care who wins either, but I guess I'd like of like Carol Hannah and Logan to date.

I agree, Milla had insightful things to say that came naturally and didn't have that "I'm trying really hard to be SERIOUS ABOUT FASHION" vibe that most of the celebrity judges seem to have. She clearly knew her stuff and was confident about her opinion. But not mean at all.

Milla' constructive criticism was so refreshing...and it seemed to inform Heidi's comments at the end for Jordana about being more confident, and to Logan about raising the level of his designs.

I was kind of dismayed that Nicolas went over Christopher this time. Christopher's outfit was so sad and lame, really not put together at all well...at least Nicolas had some kind of contstruction. But I guess that he missed the mark of the whole challenge and am I really going to complain about NO NICOLAS FOREVER?

If Althea ever stops being the safe crowd she is going to get RIPPED when her designs have to measure up against the good designers like Irina, Carol Hannah and (sometimes) jordana. I didn't like her Saint Tropez look at all. Nothing ever looks like it FITS with her designs. Everything's always baggy and weirdly saggy or stretched in the wrong places.

Yes, there usually is some very weird fit issues going on w/Althea. Which strikes me as odd, because you would think that someone who has worked for Zac Posen and McQueen to know how to fit a garment. xp

the thing that bothers me abt this season is how it's pretty hard to discern any clear point of view from any of the designers.

one thing about PR that bugs me, and it's not new, is how the judges always agree with each other. i can't think of any time where the judges really differed in opinion about a look. fashion is so subjective, once in a while one of the judges should go "you may all hate this look but i actually love it".

it's happened a few times i think? the problem is that most of the judges are all mainstream industry insiders from an industry that is all about groupthink -- and i can see how guest judges could easily be swayed by it

she was positive about the outfit overall, when they were doing the reviews she was nothing but complimentary about it. and i'm talking about a totally different opinion vs. difference in opinion about one aspect of a look.

I know they didn't have much time at the Getty Center, but I was SO bummed that they didnt' seem to go anywhere near their Egypt/Rome collections. And I guess I was a little underwhelmed by their inspirations, to be honest. With the exception of Jordana, it just didn't seem that they were particularly moved by what they saw, they just thought it would look good as a dress...I dunno. It was nowhere near as exciting as the Metropolitan Museum episode from last (?) season.

I want to set them all on fire. I'm just glad that Top Chef is still bringing the goods, or I would be a mess.

going on a challenge where you're supposed to draw inspiration from a museum's entire collection and you pick the rock fountain out front is an automatic suggest ban. imo. fuck that dude

Yeah, it really hit me how boring this season was when I watched the last ep and realized I couldn't put my finger on any single designer's aesthetic. I could still describe the general design style of Laura, Santino, Daniel, Uli, Bubble Skirt Crazy Woman, The Lady Who Spit on the Fabric, Michael Knight, Korto, My Beloved Chris March, that Tattoo Neck Asshole and many, many more but when I tried to figure out, say, Carol Hannah's style, all I could think was, "She just makes dresses." And she's probably my favorite of the top three! ("Favorite" being relative.)

Andre, Rami, that sardonic guy who always said, "Sweet merciful crap" and who I have actually seen in my local laundromat a couple of times who went out on the wedding challenge...

Boy do I hope next season is better.

Dream finale:
Irina goes into a coke-fuelled freakout, cuts up her whole collection with scissors and decides to do an all-pleather collection, which she completes in a mere 3 hours. Nina declares the whole collection a debacle and Irina leaps from the stage and tackles her to the floor.
Althea accidentally sews one of her dresses to the leg of her skinny jeans, realizes she doesn't need models and attaches her whole collection to herself, and walks down the runway. Michael Kors says she looks like a couture bag lady and commends her innovation.
Carol Hannah pukes all over her collection, but Christopher's tears of sympathy wash away most of the stains. At the judging Heidi asks her what her inspiration was, and she barfs. Judges applaud and declare her the winnner. Irina chases everyone off the set and then lunges for the cameraman.

I guess I can see why Irina won? It looked the most like a fashion show, I guess? But Carol Hannah's was definitely more to my taste, plus she made it while throwing up all the time, so I think she deserved to win more.

The guest judge with the stupid hair annoyed me. You are no Isabella Blow, lady (or maybe she is - I have no idea who the weirdo fashion insider icons really are these days). It makes me wonder how the contestants can keep a straight face when the judges are so absurd.
