you know, something selfish and obscene like a solid-gold toilet.
for me, it's easy. an indoor swimming pool. i like to swim, but i don't like being outside. and i don't like swimming in pools that lots of other people swim in. which is why i would want my own super-deluxe indoor swimming pool.
million dollar movie theatre might be second on my list. um, i guess i'm already taking for granted that i live in a castle.
okay, maybe castle should be first on my list.

― Adventures of Dog Boy and Frank Sobotka (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 21 September 2009 17:39 (sixteen years ago)
It's a really hard question! Everything I can think of just seems like a better version of stuff I already have:
- home cinema (already own a pretty large telly)- Mayfair townhouse (can kip on friend's floor nearby)- private train (can afford train tickets)- vanity publishing house (ILX login)
That leaves just my own army, which makes it sound like what I really want is to be Hugo Chavez. I'd settle for that indoor swimming pool.
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 21 September 2009 17:45 (sixteen years ago)
My grandparents used to own a piece of land around Big Sur. It was like several hundred square feet up a steep hill that one couldn't actually get to. I think they bought it at a point when there was concern that the area was going to privatized and developed. They later gave it/sold it to the Big Sur Land Trust, but I always thought it was weird that they owned this seemingly useless piece of property.

I was actually thinking about this because I heard you could become a millionaire if you won the recent lottery. Fuck me. I think I'd instantly buy a BIGGER house (even though ours is pretty huge) with a garden (which we do not have, just some stoned inner terrace). I'd immediately splash out on a whole new wardrobe (Current/Elliot here I come baby). But at the end of the day I think I have a pretty good life, I would just want the things that I now have. That said, I would stop working. Actually no, I wouldn't. Just take loads of holidays with the kids (and without hah).
Years ago we visited this exhibition about Russian jewellery (from the court) or something. They were showing Fabergé eggs. In the shop this obv rich woman kept going around saying she wanted an egg. Her toboy said:"Well, they have some!" She replied:"No way, I want the REAL thing. I want an EGG." Christ, how sad is that?

― Not the real Village People, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 07:32 (sixteen years ago)
My first thought was a Fender Jaguar and a bunch of pedals, but that is more for the thread for not particularly luxury stuff that you could maybe even just about afford but can no way justify to yourself (in my case specifically because I can't play and would never get round to learning). So I would like, ooh, some giant retro-tastic modular synth that takes up an entire room and I'd also never learn to use. But some robo-gnomes to do my housework would be good too.
In my daydreams of suddenly finding inexhaustible stacks of money, I buy up some property (may have to bulldoze some inconsequential listed centuries-old buildings for this) and turn it into the best smallish live music venue ever and then put on bands I like who would never ever bring in a profit. I also tell a certain woman at work to fuck off. Maybe I could get my gnomes to tell her to fuck off daily.
Oh well.

― VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)
infinity pool? I think I heard that term recently and yeah, those are awsome. my pool would be one of those. It would also have music piped underwater.
