Amazing stuff.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 10:37 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be disappointed in ILX if we don't muster up at least one Sir David Attenborough hater... presuming such a creature exists

The Prince's choice: making a brush. (Tom D.), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 10:42 (fifteen years ago)

Current BBC previews for "Life" have had me champing at the bit; an autumnal evening with a hot cup of tea and Attenborough on the telly = bliss.

Bill A, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 10:56 (fifteen years ago)

I know of at least one Attenborough hater, tho they don't post here. Me, I'm kinda agnostic.

Oppositional Soup (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:45 (fifteen years ago)

Nah, that's putting it too strong. He's just there, really.

Oppositional Soup (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:46 (fifteen years ago)

I can understand that but what's to hate?

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:49 (fifteen years ago)

If I believed in God I'd imagine Him to sound something like David Attenborough.

chap, Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:51 (fifteen years ago)

If there was a god i'm pretty sure attenborough would have had a programme on him by now. or would it have been Parky?

What are the benefits of dating a younger guy, better erections? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 29 September 2009 11:54 (fifteen years ago)

A moment of worry that this was an RIP thread, or a revived thread to say RIP. That would make me incredibly sad.

It's not any exaggeration to say that Sir David Attenborough has taught me more about how life on this planet works than any other single person -- no teacher or professor has ever given the context that he does. He has made some of the only television that I would truly say should be seen by everyone, in particular the original 13-hour "Life On Earth" from the late 70's. (Don't mess with the chopped versions.)

StanM, Thursday, 11 November 2010 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

He had dinner at our house once--a really nice fella. He was in Australia for some reason, and my dad was his "guide" in Adelaide, showing him round, getting him to his appointments, etc. He told a story about how he really likes all animals, except rats, because once he was sleeping in a hammock in a jungle somewhere, and woke up to find some gently eating bits of skin off his face and hands.

Soundtrack to this is wonderful by the way.

Young Swell (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 29 September 2011 06:12 (thirteen years ago)

Ideally I would like the whole series, but I guess I could assemble it piecemeal. I just want to watch/listen to Sir David Attenborough talk about plants all day.

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 29 September 2011 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

Youtube isn't cutting it anymore, I want to watch the whole series.

Art Arfons (La Lechera), Thursday, 29 September 2011 14:36 (thirteen years ago)

I once contacted David Attenborough for an interview (about his Bjork collaboration).

He turned it down but sent me a lovely hand written letter.

the lakes are deep brine pools with a much higher salinity and sometimes a soup of other dissolved chemicals -- these derive from the sea-bed (and vents and such) and for whatever reason* don't just dissolve away into the rest of the sea

*it's cold down there and at a high pressure so brownian motion is less? plus the sea is already as salt as it routine wants to be? it's a bit like layer cocktails i guess (except possibly nastier)

for a moment as DA releases the little leatherback into the ocean i thought he was going to pop it into his mouth

mark s, Sunday, 10 December 2017 21:46 (seven years ago)

baby leatherback was the best thing on tonight, also just remembered bad joke with the punchline "i'll have another of those crunchy pies please"

best display name of 2017 (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 10 December 2017 21:48 (seven years ago)

best thing was the muppet-looking sea slug, glimpsed but not even referred to

the "weird sounds of the seas" section didn't work bcz (a) mimpy sadsack microphone man, yes, but more importantly (b) this series constantly slathers sweeping music soundstracks over everything in the oceans to tell us how to feel, and in this bit obviously it couldn't and so didn't, so it felt very anticlimactic and minor

never been able to forgive the cant of a man born into a posh family and living in a 28 room mansion with a coterie of domestic staff and a billion airmiles under his belt, this wanker said we need to learn to live more frugally. fuck off.
