Good news is there'll be another Models of the Runway. ^_^
― Leee, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 05:38 (fifteen years ago)
last season beat me down so badly I don't know if I even CARE anymore. Do I care? I mean that as a serious question. any scuttlebut on this year's fashtestants? I'll sit through Nicole Ritchie if they're not a snoozzzefest like Season 6.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 07:52 (fifteen years ago)
srsly guys if yr jonesing, watch pr australia. great stuff.
― tehresa, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 07:55 (fifteen years ago)
watchin lifetime is a trip
Pregnancy Pact
― johnny crunch, Friday, 15 January 2010 04:57 (fifteen years ago)
the winning dress really reminded me of epperson's from last season -- same criss-crossed appliqué strips on the top. the runner-up was way too harajuku for my taste but i thought it was really well detailed.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 15 January 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)
also: lol ping
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 15 January 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)
the runner-up was way too harajuku for my taste
yeah i hated that. hot topic lolita-wear
guy who won this week seemed cool. emilio.
― dmr, Friday, 15 January 2010 20:25 (fifteen years ago)
wkiw emilio
― u don't have 2 be a shart, baby, 2 be in my jort (m bison), Friday, 15 January 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)
Okay so turns out I'm not as beaten down as I thought: approaching this new season with renewed enthusiasm. Emilio is my Epperson. My money is on the costume designers x 2. Construction + finishing = yay. Seth/Jeffrey/Tattoo-neck better have more than zippers up his sleeve. I thought that dress looked like underwear.
The crying girl from Oregon needs to leave. She'll be curled in a ball on the floor by the end of the next episode if this week's any indication.
Also from all the safe-people...is cutup material doubling as a corsage going to be the new 'thing' this year? One of those outfits looked like it had roadkill attached to it...and that Iranian girl's bodice looked like a kleenex-stuffed bra cup had exploded.
That is all.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 16 January 2010 07:26 (fifteen years ago)
dmr totally OTM about the guy from Blink 182's dress being a Hot Topic clearance item. I liked Emilio's dress, too, but didn't like his fat joek. :(
The Oregonian Puddle is definitely not going to last if she doesn't toughen up a little, which I hope she does because that weepy naivete really irks me. Anthony is either going to be my favorite, or his schtick is going to get unpalatably stale by the end of next ep. I think I'm in love with Ping, however. I nearly died when the judges approved of her crazy ass draped... thing. Which was Nicole Ritchie's favorite. Which is weird. Or maybe she dresses like that all the time; I don't know.
Also, is Heidi just always pregnant now or what? That woman is fertile.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:16 (fifteen years ago)
I already like this season about 100000x better than last season, btw. Whew.
Seth/Jeffrey/Tattoo-neck
lol totally got Jeffrey II vibes from Seth Aaron.
The crying girl from Oregon needs to leave.
I call her Leanne II.
Iranian girl's bodice looked like a kleenex-stuffed bra cup had exploded.
Shirin II made her model look like she had a mastectomy.
Other clones: Louise II, Kenley II, Klingon lady.
― Leee, Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:27 (fifteen years ago)
Oh, and there was guy who is totally Lucien II from PR Canada.
― Leee, Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:36 (fifteen years ago)
Chris March (his blog is fucking hilarious, btw) described Shirin II's dress thusly: "Strangely orthopedic longline bra with a harlequin diaper pouf skirt. Just right for Prom Night at the Insane Asylum."
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Saturday, 16 January 2010 22:38 (fifteen years ago)
lol! I love Chris's blog.
Anthony's definitely got a shelf life, though I did love his 'sweatin like a baptist preacher' line.
I was hoping from Jesus' portfolio photos that we'd get some Austin/Christian-level excitement but the crocodile-shoes dress does NOT bode well.
And wtf at the group being shocked that they had to do a mad scramble for material in the middle of Central Park. Surely by now everyone in the world knows that this is the first PR challenge always and forever? Major lols at Ping wrestling with the fabric roll. She is pretty hilar and interesting. Though her style doesn't seem very adaptable...if she has to design something fitted she's pretty much screwed unless she's sharking us on actual sewing skills.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 16 January 2010 23:05 (fifteen years ago)
Which designer was it (Jesus?) that had Tim groaning for like forever? LOL
― Leee, Saturday, 16 January 2010 23:13 (fifteen years ago)
I'm sure sometimes he just wishes he could say, "Look, just stop. Pack up your things and go now. You can sneak out the back. This is not going to end well for you."
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 16 January 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)
ping = alien girl from last season who didn't sketch but instead did headstands until she was inspired. interested to see what she can do when forced to sew...
― tehresa, Sunday, 17 January 2010 00:29 (fifteen years ago)
Tattoo Neck is the woooooorst.
― tylerw, Sunday, 17 January 2010 04:29 (fifteen years ago)
Also, is Heidi just always pregnant now or what? That woman is fertile.srsly, how many seal babies can one woman have? is this the fourth?
she's like a human trout-farm
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 17 January 2010 05:21 (fifteen years ago)
There were a lot of butt ugly dresses up there.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 06:06 (fifteen years ago)
I thought Jonathan should've been top 3, not Ping.
Bad looks other than the bottom 3:Amy (One boob way bigger than the other + a tablecloth skirt = fashion?)Janeane Marie (looks like she made it in two hours. boring.)Jay Nicolas (fleurchons grew tribble-sized, ate otherwise nice dress)Mila (enormous pink spaceship pyramid)
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 06:19 (fifteen years ago)
Secretly wondering if Type-A Pamela will be our Wendy this year?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 17 January 2010 07:19 (fifteen years ago)
Anthony is either going to be my favorite, or his schtick is going to get unpalatably stale by the end of next ep.v OTM. I want to love him, though. I can't imagine Ping will be very versatile/last very long. And YES, how did the Kleenex-boob explosion dress pass???
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Sunday, 17 January 2010 15:10 (fifteen years ago)
Totally with you, polyphonic, on the Mila dress. I hated that so much. And I hated the future dress with the pointy shoulders. Actually, the fact that I hated so much kind of bodes well for these designers taking risks and producing hilarious disasters going forward this season, and that is always entertaining.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 17 January 2010 16:19 (fifteen years ago)
So the Models of the Runway thing ... worth watching?
― tylerw, Sunday, 17 January 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)
i am so rooting for ping. does she have a facebook group yet?
― scott seward, Sunday, 17 January 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)
Hell yes! But I'm the only who'd say that because I am a Top Model geek and MOTR is like a more pointless version of it, at least last season was. So far this season we actually saw some behind-the-scenes tidbits, esp. one bit with lolping. And you do get to find out which girl is a lolwiccan. And one of the models sounds JUST like Adrienne Curry!
― Leee, Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:50 (fifteen years ago)
Is it Mila or her twin?
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)
last season's motr was funny bc they were all in love with that dude whose name i've already forgotten.
― tehresa, Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)
and that one girl was like 'i'm too good for y'all, i'm gonna go do an arby's commercial. peace.'
― tehresa, Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:56 (fifteen years ago)
Logan! Even some of the sub-judges were in ♥ with him.
xpost LOLOL
― Leee, Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:57 (fifteen years ago)
One of the models is 32, and I wouldn't have guessed which one before seeing MOTR.
― Leee, Sunday, 17 January 2010 21:58 (fifteen years ago)
So on the model show did anything happen? Do they pick models on that show? If I'm the winner guy I would've switched models honestly.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:05 (fifteen years ago)
heidi will chat with the models a little, they show behind the scenes stuff, and then the designers pick their models for next week.
― tehresa, Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:09 (fifteen years ago)
This has been bugging, esp. since I asked at the end of PR6 and nobody answered >=0 but: what have been the classic seasons? For me, only 1 and 3.
― Leee, Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:56 (fifteen years ago)
I loved Season 2, loved Christian's season
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:58 (fifteen years ago)
Season 1 I didn't care about the early episodes, only the end was good imo
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)
The season w/ Santino and Aaaaandre was the first one I watched and a def classic.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 17 January 2010 22:59 (fifteen years ago)
I feel like last season was an all-time low. By the time you got to the final 5ish, you realized you didn't really care about any of them because the show sort of ignored them. I read that the footage was shot w/ Bravo but edited under Lifetime; maybe they're just not very good at doing this?
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)
I definitely don't like Lifetime's editing style, and also the music.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)
Isn't the music the same? Still that Pan American-ish, dubby stuff?
― Leee, Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:19 (fifteen years ago)
it is; do you think it was some sort of cross-licensing thing or something? Hmm. Maybe it was edited at Bravo and last season was just really really awful.
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:36 (fifteen years ago)
There were some music selections last night that I don't remember from the Bravo era, but may be wrong.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
trying to make irina an evildoer at the last minute was so transparent and pathetic. they knew they didn't have anything to work with. last season.
― scott seward, Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
already just from one episode this bunch looks like more fun. or at least possibly bitchier. and hopefully more talented! cuz that was the real problem last year.
― scott seward, Sunday, 17 January 2010 23:39 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, last year def. seemed like they were struggling w/ the narrative/trying to find some kind of villain. irina was kinda bitchy, but she wasn't monstrous. and the others in the final three were pretty dull. fine designers/probably nice people, but dull!
my wife and i just watched models of the runway ... ummm, i guess it's good it is just 20 minutes? does it get nastier? like, fights with designers/heidi, etc.? That could be good.
― tylerw, Monday, 18 January 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)
Models of the Runway coach lady has done "about 4500 show", is that even possible?
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Monday, 18 January 2010 04:33 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, that seemed a little bit crazy. get that lady her own show NOW!
― tylerw, Monday, 18 January 2010 18:36 (fifteen years ago)
objectively there is no way ping should not have been out this wk
i already am in love w/ the girl who used a potato 2 make a pattern, anne marie maybe? it takes a good 6 wks for me to really learn names tbh
― johnny crunch, Friday, 22 January 2010 18:53 (fifteen years ago)
i think they're keeping ping around because she's at least being adventurous and has a definite POV, even though her latest dress was a complete failure. also, wardrobe malfunctions maybe aren't as much if a dealbreaker as expected -- there was the completely sheer nightie that walked the runway last season but didn't lose.
whereas, the losing dress last night was boring, low-class, and fit horribly. it made the model look like an aging biker floozy imo.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)
wish i could have seen the winning dress in more detail because the feathery effect the judges were talking about totally didn't read on screen
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 19:36 (fifteen years ago)
twinky ribbons kid has really awful taste and both his dresses have made me roll my goddamn eyes. get rid of him next plz.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)
i was flipping back & forth and this was the first episode i saw SO I DON'T KNOW ANY NAMES but i think the gay, black guy should've one. his dress was simple and a bit too... project runway-y maybe, but i thought it was the best one
― waka shame (J0rdan S.), Friday, 22 January 2010 19:45 (fifteen years ago)
I thought the 3rd-place flower-petals dress should have won last night, fantastic dye job.
― the end times are coming, but they're just the beginning (WmC), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:09 (fifteen years ago)
me too.
I thought this was one of the most successful challenges I've ever seen. Lots of good work.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:18 (fifteen years ago)
i loved the dye effect but didn't like how the skirt fell -- it looked like the model had a bunch of dinner napkins pinned to her waist. but that's just me, maybe.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 22 January 2010 20:37 (fifteen years ago)
get rid of him next plz
yeah I wanted that guy to be out
fantastic dye job
that was my favorite
emilio kinda repeated himself but his dress was cool too
― dmr, Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:23 (fifteen years ago)
not going to read the thread in case of spoilers but quickly: can you tell if this is better than last season and worth catching up on?
― Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:25 (fifteen years ago)
it's better so far. two episodes in. overall the level of talent on challenge #2 last night looked pretty high
― dmr, Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:30 (fifteen years ago)
cheers. will invest the time.
― Freddy 'The Wonder Chicken' (Gukbe), Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
Ping's dress was pretty WTF. But I agreed with sending Pamela home. Dye job or no dyejob, that dress was a Sturgis nightmare. And the butt was awful. Truly awful.
Can we please send Brown Jesus home now? Is he stuck in some kind of 80's italian fashion nightmare? The ribbon didn't even elevate that dress...if anything it was like a neon signs saying HI I'M HIDEOUS. Wow.
Seth Aaron's model looked like she was going to walk off the runway and go fight sandworms in Dune. Either he's so conceptual it's genius and I'll soon see the light...or he's a tool doomed for his comeuppance. I haven't decided yet.
Good challenge though.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:47 (fifteen years ago)
I was just thinking how this season is already by an far better than last. Agree that dyed trim lady should have won the challenge. Kind of liked Mama Pamela though and wished annoying ignoring-the-challenge kid went home instead.
― kate moss and heavy machinery in a dessert (Stevie D), Saturday, 23 January 2010 23:55 (fifteen years ago)
I really hated the top on the black dress w/ the feathered burlap skirt.
― Leee, Sunday, 24 January 2010 00:23 (fifteen years ago)
I also liked hipster glasses' lace doily cocktail dress!
― Leee, Sunday, 24 January 2010 00:28 (fifteen years ago)
Boy, I do not understand why the judges picked the winning dress at all. It was boring and unfinished looking and I hated the poofy bottom.
Hipster Glasses's dress was my definitely favorite, and I liked Amy's and Miss Anthony's and Emilio's better than the winner. Even Hot Topic's hood dress was more appealing to me than the winning look. I was tickled by Anna's decision to potato print her potato sack, but the dress itself looked too much like her dress last episode.
Slutty biker dress definitely deserved to go. I'm just happy that Ping is still around. PR is so much more fun when they keep at least one cuckoo bird designer around.
I will be happy when the number of designers gets more manageable because I would have liked to hear the judges talk about some of the other looks, especially the pants and the dress by, I think, Short Bangs, Jr., that looked like an overdecorated cake.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 24 January 2010 22:44 (fifteen years ago)
I guess it's a good sign that there were so many dresses that I liked, though!
need someone 2 explain 2 me why the thing that won is good. srsly i can only picture someone who is 60 yrs old & trying 2 be "sporty" wearing it
― johnny crunch, Friday, 29 January 2010 12:12 (fifteen years ago)
consider the judges...
― scott seward, Friday, 29 January 2010 12:53 (fifteen years ago)
Burn! Oh my god, Jesse was being such a prick to Ping. I understand the sitch he was in and everything, but he was kind of just plain cruel at times. Also there's really nothing much to say about Ping; she did her job on the show and it was simply time to go.
― 26 Mixes Focaccia (Stevie D), Saturday, 30 January 2010 16:53 (fifteen years ago)
Jesse was insufferably patronizing, and he picked the model who threw Ping under the bus.
― Leee, Saturday, 30 January 2010 22:23 (fifteen years ago)
I'm attracted to Anna Lynett and her aesthetic. Looking at her collection this season I'm seeing browns, greens, yellows and some fancy looking stuff which looks pretty.
I like how Marc Jacobs is the first on her list of favorite designers because he has lots of grunge influenced clothes.
She's a knockout babe in my opinionhttp://mylt.ltcdn.com/files/imagecache/pr_full/files/galleries/pr7-al-440-work1.jpg
Some of her past work looks sort of amish but she hasn't done any amish clothes yet this season so I'm happy.
― stop assuming I assumed something LOL (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 30 January 2010 22:37 (fifteen years ago)
When I say that I like "grunge influenced" clothes, I mean that I like lots of the clothes you see when browsing through this blog: someone's blog. (nothing dirty or anything)
― stop assuming I assumed something LOL (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 30 January 2010 22:43 (fifteen years ago)
I thought Jesse was pretty fair with Ping, honestly.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Saturday, 30 January 2010 23:31 (fifteen years ago)
I don't know about fair...but if you're someone who can sew, and not the team leader, you almost have to do anything you can to try to salvage what is basically the hindenburg. Especially for a challenge like that where the judges are looking for construction/finishing/editing even more than they normally do. Jesse saw this clearly and was trying to fireproof whatever he could...and I think from him seeing how she worked, he knew that a blunt instrument was going to be the quickest way to stunt her flow. But he was kind of a dick about it, and I'm not entirely sure that his influence helped much at all...it was hard to tell if he even elevated the designs at all, because they were well, kind of ugly in construction & finishing which is kind of what he did, right?
that the jacket won didn't surprise me...it was definitley a great piece...but I think the other two (names still eluding me) achieved a more complete look with their two designs, and finished them PERFECTLY. I would feel a little cheated that the jacket won when their 2nd look was so meh. And I felt bad for hipster glasses having to do all the legwork for them and get no props from her at all. I respect him for not bringing it up.
so the teasers hinted there was a big flap on Models of the Runway with the model throwing Ping under the bus?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 31 January 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)
..ugh...I meant "I respect him for not bringing it up - on the runway". doh.
From Tim Gunn's blog...otm:
Given that the team's high-end look was exclusively Mila's concept, it made me uncomfortable to watch Jonathan be a mere sample-hand. But were it not for his efforts, I believe that neither look would have made it to the runway.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 31 January 2010 02:31 (fifteen years ago)
Not a huge flap -- just a number of models grousing about her and her inexperience and childishness and slamming her parents for not learning her some better manners.
― Leee, Sunday, 31 January 2010 02:39 (fifteen years ago)
I hated the winning look soooooooooo much. I will readily admit that part of the problem is that if a designer were to design something that represented the complete opposite of my own personal taste and style, it would look pretty much like the winning look. But still. God. Those big dumb white circles??? It was like a track suit for a penguin. I even hated the derivative design because it reminded me of Mila's stupid track suit. And it irked me when the judges gushed about the bravery and specialness of separates when they let some potato-sack pants stroll down the runway without a blink last week. I thought the other top design - with the big mushroom ruffle on the shoulder - was better, and their second look was definitely better. I liked Maya and Jesus's designs better than Milla's and Hipster Glass's, too.
It was probably Ping's time, which is too bad, but she stayed about as long as most of the cuckoobird designers do. I'm afraid Miss Anthony is going to go home soon since he kind of sucks, which is too bad. Chris March pointed out that he referred to Seth-Aaron as "Seth-Ann" which I missed, but man, that's hilarious.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 31 January 2010 19:19 (fifteen years ago)
It was like a track suit for a penguin.
haaaaa
― tehresa, Sunday, 31 January 2010 23:31 (fifteen years ago)
Bummed that on PR and MOTR, both the people who went home this week were the Chinese contestants.
― Leee, Sunday, 31 January 2010 23:38 (fifteen years ago)
but it was definitely ping's time to go!
― tehresa, Sunday, 31 January 2010 23:42 (fifteen years ago)
Uhh wasn't Sophia Korean?

― 26 Mixes Focaccia (Stevie D), Monday, 1 February 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
I'm usually kind of WTF about sponsored challenges, but something about this one seemed to work a lot better...and finally, a real-model challenge that's not a bitchfest for one designer. They were all pretty cool-seeming women, and the designers seemed to really go for this challenge which I liked.
Anna: girl. GIRL! I covered my face when I saw that damn dress. The poor model's back looked awful with that racer thing, and the front? Such a lovely-featured girl, such an awful, awful dress.
And apparently yes, Jesus studied fashion at studio 54 or some evil Italian house of fashion in 1982. What the what. Yuk. Maybe there's some Jersey cougars who will go nuts over his nasty-ass dresses. The boy can sew but apparently only if it's shiny shiny shiny!
I loved Amy's dress...I think Mila's dress was hipper and interesting but Amy's model just looked gorgeous. Starting to wonder if Mila's addicted to contrast. She's got a real mod thing going on...her construction is amazing, really do like her work even if I don't always love the design.
Anthony's officially grown on me. I enjoy him a lot.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 5 February 2010 06:19 (fifteen years ago)
i give props to mila for going for broke like she said she would despite having immunity. it couldn't have been easy to put that together. (even if her star pattern and last week's racing stripes aren't my kinda thing.)
― scott seward, Friday, 5 February 2010 13:30 (fifteen years ago)
I'm carefully not reading the new comments because I haven't see the new ep yet, but I did want to share this wonderful photo of Chris March:

star pattern dress looked like she was wearing a giant Macy's bag, I was surprised the judges bought that one. (I think Emilio made some crack about the Thanksgiving parade too)
― dmr, Friday, 5 February 2010 15:06 (fifteen years ago)
Yes, Anthony has definitely grown on me as well. Totally was not in love with the winning design, and Anna's looked like Pac-Man was about to eat that woman's head. Sad!
― 26 Mixes Focaccia (Stevie D), Friday, 5 February 2010 20:08 (fifteen years ago)
Anna's dress was worse than Jesus's.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Friday, 5 February 2010 23:13 (fifteen years ago)
at least her model didn't look like a streetwalker in it, though.
another one for <3 of anthony. sweet boy.
did not enjoy the star dress. i did like amy's and what little i can remember of ben(?)'s
― tehresa, Saturday, 6 February 2010 07:26 (fifteen years ago)
Oh Anna... maybe it's just because I'm broad of shoulder, but I'm stunned that any woman who grew up in the US with access to fashion magazines would put a broad-shouldered woman in a t-back anything. Anna seems nice, but if I were a judge, she'd be out of there. Jesus is tacky as shit, but at least his dress made his model look like an extra on Jersey Shore rather than an angry linebacker.
There was less flouncing from the designers about having to design for non-models, but there was still enough that I got irritated. Also, um, models are real women, too. They are just real women who, through genetics, will, drugs, eating disorders, or a combination of those things, are six feet tall and maintain a 0 to 4 dress size for a living.
I like the winning look well enough. I actually liked the star dress, for some reason, despite that generally being Not My Thing. I wasn't sure if Emilio was making a joke about the Macy's star or suggesting that Mila's model looked like a parade float. If it's the former, ha ha, but if it's the latter, I hate him a lot. He did make that mean-spirited joke about fat people at a buffet either the last ep or the one before that. IIRC, he also did the most bitching about having to design for non-models. Hmph.
The product placement/sponsorship tie-ins in this show are getting out of hand, though. The Campbell's Soup fabric was ridiculous, and at one point, when a designer was sketching on her HP Design-o-Magic Loreal Paris Touch Pad in Garnier Fructis Green, TM, the camera focused on the HP logo instead of what she was drawing.
Strangely enough, this is the episode where I became fond of Seth-Ann. I don't know why! My best guess is that he has nice, shiny hair.

Oh and I did not understand the love for Maya's dress, unless this crop of designs were just so bad that they were really reaching for anything to complement. Since when does Michael Kors approve of any dress with a big wad of fabric hanging off the widest part of the model's hip? He must have REALLY loved that clutch.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 7 February 2010 15:32 (fifteen years ago)
I just looked at "Rate the Runway" on Lifetime's website, and I officially think the star dress should have one. Giant Macy's star aside, I think it's the most flattering and most well-fitting of all the dresses.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 7 February 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)
Should have WON. What the hell. I used the wrong "compliment" up there, too. I should go back to bed.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 7 February 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)
Star dress was really costumy though! The big star along the hem was neat, but having the smaller one around the hip really pushed it into costume territory, like a waitress uniform at Wonder Woman Cafe or somesuch.
I think the judges were tired of pointing out terrible Jesus's taste was and decided to boot him.
― Leee, Sunday, 7 February 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)
Everything was really crappy. Thought that the star dress was the least crappy though (by virtue of ACTUALLY fitting if nothing else.)
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 7 February 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)
i noticed the hp thing! it was so heavy-handed and overdone. :(also iirc maya's only use of the campbell's branding was in her purse, right? it seems like that's something judges would have been all over in past seasons as an example of someone not designing to the brief (like when they yelled at jesus(?) for not using enough burlap).

this was a good episode, i think! i really loved the superhero kimono look that ben turned out the best, even if it was much too editorial for a marie claire cover. Emilio's was good, but I didn't go crazy for Anthony's winning design. I understand how it won but I thought the shoulder detail was eye-catching in a way that was just really distracting.

oh, and what of the dress with the oval shaped layered collar-piece with all that nude-colored fabric? did that read "vagina" for anybody else? it looked like the model was being born, for fuck's sake.

wld wear ben's dress in a heartbeat! i also thought jay nicholas' design looked nice but not for a cover. also who is the dude w/ glasses? i don't recall ever seeing him on this show before lol.

I KNOW! I half feel sorry for her, half just want her to shut up and go home. Also, lol @ the model being born out of the vagina dress.
Speaking of vaginas, I had to laugh when Jonathan extolled the comfort-related virtues of his little romper. Yes, camel-toe shorts are the height of comfort.

i can't remember their names either. except for mila. the one who went really had to go. designing shorts and vest that miley cyrus would have snubbed for a diva uber-model with kids? for cover of fashion mag? don't know what she was thinking.
i actually liked the red dress that they made the guy cut up. very heidi-esque.
― scott seward, Sunday, 14 February 2010 03:52 (fifteen years ago)
Soo glad they called Mila on her 'Hi Here's My Crotch'/Ace Bandage dress. Enough with the lines & mod stuff, show us what else you've got. And Mila-Cylon, whoever the other younger bangs girl is, yeah that vagina dress was pretty WTF. She seem to have a thing for just 'garnishing' whatever she makes with a handful of raw-cut material and using it as corsage/collar/whatever.
Am not going to miss Anna...the poor lamb seemed barely capable of making doll clothes, let alone people clothes. Crying girl has to be the next to go. Surely. Her bridal dress was a shiny nightmare of seams.
Loved Ben's dress, but agree that it's not really cover stuff. Emilio's dress was pretty rockin for Heidi, especially without the straps. And he's hella bitchy but as long as he keeps putting out good stuff, he's okay in my book. Glad that Anthony got a win, but I'm not sure what else he's got in his bag of tricks. I don't really see him surprising me, you know?
BTW: They need a whole separate show for the stuff the designers wear to the runway. Ben's tank top obsession creeps me out. I don't know why.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 14 February 2010 04:04 (fifteen years ago)
where my runway bitches at?
that chic little kid's dress was the bomb! every rich hip mother in new york will want that. that was some serious fashion made on the cheap.
― scott seward, Saturday, 27 February 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)
Jay's plum ensemble was gorgeous, I thought...so hip and edgy for a little girl, and the model's look was great too. Seth Aaron gets props for the purse, he was so right-on about little girls and their accessories. I kind of liked the Dad side of him this week.
I didn't understand Emilio's little girl dress at all...thought it was a horrid interpretation of a communion dress or something...ankle length AND empire waist...does anyone even dress their kid like that? and that pink was UGH. And we really really need to talk about Amy's pants. They were not at all like what I thought she was going to do. I expected more of a sewn together patchwork...with them left loose like scales was a bad idea. Did she run out of time to make them the way she wanted to? Or was that her whole intention? On top you could do that...but the effect on the bottom was like covering them in ruffles. Bad execution. But Janeane's...well, everything, was just wrong from top to bottom, and not well made. Glad to see the back of her.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 28 February 2010 01:50 (fifteen years ago)
oh and Mila officially needs a color-blocking intervention now. it's gotten WAY out of hand.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 28 February 2010 01:52 (fifteen years ago)
Glad to see the back of her.
Me too, but for entirely different reasons. Her grownup jacket was terrible.
Loved Seth-Ann's grownup look! I liked the kiddie loo too.
No PR this week, next episode will be 3/4.

cant deal w/ mila anymore, reminds me of an snl character i cant place
this all went down 2 wks ago right? the only reason i could come up w/ for them rerunning it this wk was cuz they were up against the biggest womens figure skating night of the olympics -- that is actually prob smart to avoid, considering the overlap in audience imo
― johnny crunch, Sunday, 28 February 2010 02:17 (fifteen years ago)
"this wk was cuz they were up against the biggest womens figure skating night of the olympics"

both his kid and adult things were bad, I thought he was gonna be in the bottom 3. kid dress was like a princess halloween costume and the adult dress was super boring.
― dmr, Sunday, 28 February 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)
Ohhhhhhh I was about to write Lifetime an angry letter about taking so long to put episodes online (it does take at least until Saturday or Sunday for a Thursday night show, which is still too long, IMO). I'm glad I came here first.
The kiddo episode was the first time this season that I agreed with the judges on the winner and the loser.

― ice cr?m abdul-jabbar (Leee), Sunday, 7 March 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
& Maya (?) was robbed in this challenge.
― ice cr?m abdul-jabbar (Leee), Sunday, 7 March 2010 19:58 (fifteen years ago)
I was kind of pissed that Emilio didn't get the boot. Jesse's space-prom dress was ugly, for sure...but at least he didn't just cover up the model's naughty bits with a handful macrame'd washers. And all his snooty whining, "I'm a fashion designer, I shouldn't have to do this". Ugh. I think he's bumped himself down to my least favorite now. His attitude STINKS. The mark of a truly great designer is the ability to shine in less than ideal circumstances. Emilio just pouts.
Maya's dress was pretty rad. I did like Jay's though, I thought the garbage bag pants were pretty killer, especially since he had so much trouble with the fit first time around. I'm okay with him being the winner. Though I'm sure this going to make him 10x more insufferable now. >:(
Mila's dress was great but COME ON with the color blocking. Enough already.
I liked how Tim was perplexed by the overuse of copper flashing. QED it's thin, easily molded and pretty pliable. I mean, if you get it thin enough you can cut it with scissors...so it was obviously ease of use more than anything.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 7 March 2010 22:02 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I was shocked that Emilio wasn't sent home, but I'm just happy that the Curse of Ping send Jesse home. (I did kind of wonder what she would've come up with in the challenge. Something horrifying no doubt.)
HATED Jay's celebration, on top of him seeming to be personally flakey. The pants were hot, but I hated the top, which looked like cheap pleather/PVC wear.
― ice cr?m abdul-jabbar (Leee), Sunday, 7 March 2010 22:42 (fifteen years ago)
Jay's a real dope, but that outfit was really really good. Definitely one of the most finished looking things I've seen in one of these kinds of challenges.
Emilio is a punk.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Sunday, 7 March 2010 22:46 (fifteen years ago)
Whoaaaaaa I can't believe Emilio didn't get the boot!!! Between Ping's butt cheek dress and this string and washer bathing suit, the judges are so tolerant of skankwear this season. Damn. Next episode somebody's going to send their model out in pasties and a g-string. Maybe that's what prompts the comment featured in the previews that it looks like a cat in a baby sling.
I liked all three of the top three looks, and I liked the sandpaper look, too. Mila's model looked like she wanted to die, however, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable she must have been.
― she is writing about love (Jenny), Sunday, 7 March 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)
jesse's design failed on all fronts for an unconventional-materials challenge -- a rigid bodice and a voluminous skirt is the furthest thing from innovation (which was a judging criterion, i guess) and he not only chose the wrong materials but he treated them poorly. everyone else using the copper flashing managed to end up with something less mangled.
emilio just didn't use his budget well, but i guess he did his best with what he had. his look was anything but boring, which is probably what saved him in the end.
(that said, i'm always kind of bemused when the designers try to rationalize their questionable design choices as intentional rather than desperately necessary. did any of the judges believe that emilio made a bathing suit look on purpose?! really? did the fact he was sweating bullets not tip them off?)
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Monday, 8 March 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
the screen dress with the cord jacket and the key necklace was my favorite look. the garbage bag pants were a pretty impressive technical feat but hell of tacky imo.
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Monday, 8 March 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)
Oh Ben (forever to be known now as Sharkboy). Dear, oh dear. THose pants. ACK those pants. And Amywith her sad bowl of hair/hairy tittays...oof. Loved Jonathan's this week and was glad to see him win. They gave Maya a pretty hard time though I thought. I mean, if they had thought she was consistently 'derivative' wouldn't it have come up before now? I get the Nina Ricci thing but it also kind of felt like they just wanted to smack her because they couldn't find anything wrong with her dress.
I'm starting to look for a Maya, Seth Aaron top two. SA's leather ensemble was crazy great, he has really grown on me. I like Jonathan but I don't know if he can stay consistently great...he seems to lurch from lovely to 'whoa' pretty easily.
I want Emilio and Mila to spontaneously combust. Kind of sick of both of them. Anthony I like, but I'm kind of feeling he and Amy are the only obviously low-hanging fruit left to cut, unless next week deprives Mila of colorblocking again.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 13 March 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

― johnny crunch, Saturday, 13 March 2010 05:35 (fifteen years ago)
Lol stella. Yeah I guess the leather's a bit shades of Stella. He's definitely got a style about him, but I wouldn't say he's one note. He's more like Jeffrey...he just finds a way to put his style into whatever he's making. (Ugh and I guess like Mila too, bleh).
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 13 March 2010 06:13 (fifteen years ago)
I really like Seth Aaron and I thought his design this week was great. He's like Jeffrey but not a giant asshole, plus I like his designs better. Jonathan's was awesome and he totally deserved to win.
The Hair Tits outfit was HIDEOUS, mein Gott, but I was so furious at Ben for those fucking pants. THOSE FUCKING PANTS. I fully supported his auf-ing, even if I did get a little verklempt when he went home.
I was glad to see Ms. Anthony sneak past without catching any bullshit for his gown of ashes.

I still can't get over Ben's pants. Why Ben WHY?
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 14 March 2010 00:42 (fifteen years ago)
I don't think Seth Aaron is one note at all. He has an aesthetic, but he can use a lot of different techniques to achieve it. Compared to Mila he is crafty as hell.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Sunday, 14 March 2010 03:29 (fifteen years ago)
They gave Maya a pretty hard time though I thought.yeah i thought that was a little weird -- i know next to nothing about fashion, but i sort of assume that all of these designers have big fashion name influences. have they ever called someone derivative on this show? lol at giving Ben a tiny bit of teary personal time on the show w/ his husband and then kicking him out. do they just do that if someone is going to win, or if someone is out?
― tylerw, Sunday, 14 March 2010 16:32 (fifteen years ago)
They always do that when someone's leaving or is going to win. It's so formulaic, you can often figure out who will be going home from the first 5 minutes of the show from who they focus on. It's pretty sloppy IMO (like, ignore Ben the whole season, suddenly focus on him, and SURPRISE he's gone!)
― gabourey voltaire (Stevie D), Sunday, 14 March 2010 19:32 (fifteen years ago)
calling home, or the camera-up-close personal interview [insert challenging personal issue here] = guaranteed win or guaranteed auf. oh and crying adds guaranteed multiplier of 1000 to leaving or aufing.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Sunday, 14 March 2010 22:32 (fifteen years ago)
have they ever called someone derivative on this show?
krazy kenley from season 5(?) got called out for showing something that looked suspiciously like contemporaneous balenciaga, though she denied being influenced at all

Yeah I think it was Gucci.
― Your body is a spiderland (polyphonic), Sunday, 14 March 2010 23:31 (fifteen years ago)
Oh yeah, Kenley was CONSTANTLY called out for ripping people off. One dress, Michael was just like "look, the top half is Viktor and Rolf, and the bottom is Alexander McQueen. What are you doing" and she was all "I DON'T LOOK AT OTHER DESIGNERS' COLLECTIONS EVVVERRRRR!!!!"
― gabourey voltaire (Stevie D), Monday, 15 March 2010 00:01 (fifteen years ago)
ohhh yeah, i remember them being suspicious of kara saun ... that was rough. was it super-derivative, or were they just looking for something to criticize? again, i don't know that much about fashion ....

See, I don't think it's sloppy, but it's a conventional part of reality tv; e.g. if one of your contestants is a bore, why waste time on their view of the proceedings JUST to throw viewers off the epic win/fail trail? Conversely, giving these obscuro cannon fodder SOME face time is a nice gesture to them, i.e. better than giving them no face time at all.

― ice cr?m abdul-jabbar (Leee), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 01:39 (fifteen years ago)
Bye, Amy. Sweet girl, with a subtle toughness about her...but definitely had her face pressed way too close to her designs. I really liked the pleating she did but the dress reminded me of the canopy on top of a carousel. I didn't HATE the color the way the judges did but it did have a rather awkward look about it.
Jonathan's dress was nice from a distance but up close you could see how his detail suffered in the timecrunch. Best viewed from far, far away.
Judges underestimate the success Jay would have with his booby tanktop in my hometown. Tigh, illfitting AND shows boobs? That's a summer hot seller where I come from. Yeesh. And I hated those jodphur shorts/pants, whatever the hell they were.
Loved Seth Aaron & Emilio's work this week...but oh my god how much do I hate Emilio. I can't stand him. And it seemed like with Tim, and with the Judges, he barely let SA get a word in edgeways. I really want him to get a big comeuppance, and soon...he's got way too much hubris now.

― johnny crunch, Sunday, 21 March 2010 01:54 (fifteen years ago)
If Mila gets to use black on white or contrasting colors for the rest of the season, she'll be in the top 3. I can't stand her, and I'm over the color blocking but the girl has pretty mad skills with construction & finishing...it's just whether the judges get tired of her schtick or she screws up royall between now and the next few eps.
Jay is great when he's great but woeful when he missteps. I can see him going before Mila.
Do you guys think that Maya will be top 3?

I will miss him when he goes. Wonder if they could doctor some kind of hostage agreement where we toss out Jay and Mila to keep Anthony.

Strangely enough Maya did not show at fashion week even though the top 8ish designers-including the last two who were auf'd-did, so that's kind of strange.

Was it really? I couldn't tell at all. They foreshadowed a couple of people leaving, it seemed like to me, Maya among them. But it's probably easier to do that with fewer people on the show.

Yeah, I didn't think it was a foregone conclusion.
I felt bad for the beating Jonathan got by the judges...but it's the same problem he's always had. He gets way too myopic with his designs where he can't see the forest for the trees. It was a nice idea for a print...but honestly, that print looked like it would be more successful as wrapping paper, or some kind of cardstock than for a dress. but it was also hard to tell what it really looked like without seeing it up close. And wow Kors had claws fully extended, it wasn't pretty to watch.
Mila's dress was ridic. She's all shocked that her model can't walk on the runway...dude you could see that she couldn't walk in it when she tried it on! What were you thinking? And that print looked like wallpaper. Seth Aaron KILLED it this week. He's my favorite to go all the way. I'm guessing SA, Emilio and Maya top 3 now. I don't know if Jonathan can stay consistent enough to claw back.I still hate Emilio, I don't care if everyone loved his dress I couldn't stand it and I can't stand him. Maya's dress was awesome but I would have liked her to showcase more of the print and less of that front ruffley thing...though the overall look was great. Jay I don't care about. Anthony...dignified in defeat. But that dress was pretty depressing.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 26 March 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)
This week I thought it was Maya and Seth Aaron did better than Emilio, but they got the top 3 right. Jonathan's really did look like a dirty dishrag!
Mila shoulda gone home.

Emilio's print reminded me of Ken Done (and I had really hoped that I wouldn't ever be reminded of KD ever again). The hot pink/black/white? Hated it. And the way he designed the 'ESOSA' logo irritated the hell out of me. Why are you drawing my eye to the stupid heart in the MIDDLE of your name? Idiot. The fact that he chose his name for his design = everything I hate about him.

From Tim Gunn's blog on Lifetime <3<3<3http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/tim-gunn-blog
Emilio wins. Please note that I do not include an exclamation point (!). I can't be insincere or duplicitous. Emilio's win left me questioning the critical objectivity of the judges. Let's begin with the print. I was underwhelmed by the scale, color and hand-drawn execution; it looked sloppy and childlike. There was no semblance of sophistication. Furthermore, I was extremely put off by the narcissism demonstrated by the use of his initials (though I had no idea that that's what the script was until he told me), at least at this stage in his career. Gucci? OK. Louis Vuitton? Fine. But Emilio Sosa? Not yet. There is a way, however, that he could have pulled this off; that is, by winking at us through the use of wit or whimsy. But I don't believe that he has the capacity to understand those nuances. Then, there was the dress and jacket. To me, the dress was just a simple, basic silhouette with a palpable vintage heritage. The short-sleeved jacket with its blouson shoulder treatment reminded me of a bed jacket and, accordingly, said "matronly." Why did his print cause the judges to wax rhapsodic? Michael Kors even cited the brilliance of Emilio branding himself, while I had anticipated that Michael would be offended by the arrogance of it all. Why didn't Emilio's '40s-inspired look propel Nina to use the word "referential"? They responded as though he had invented fire, which he surely believed he had, too. I was dumbstruck. Finally, were it not for Lorena's lithe figure and stunning affect on the runway, perhaps the judges would have seen Emilio's look as I did. Oh, shut up, Tim.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 27 March 2010 02:47 (fifteen years ago)

I don't remember KD so I guess I can't share the same displaced hatred, but tbf Emilio won this challenge and Seth Aaron did something similar by branded his initials the rock star kids clothes he did a few weeks ago. I'm not saying Emilio is the best or even the top 3 (he might be #3) but he is at least in the top half of the contestants this season (he has won 3 times).
Yeah this post is made a little bit out of spite (I'm a drama queen in that I love to argue when I read something that doesn't sit well well with me - a lot of my childhood was defined by arguing with my older sister and trying my hardest to win) but I also feel some odd need to defend Emilio when you say something like "that's everything I hate about him" when Seth did essentially the same thing - you dirty hypocrite ;) Also, I'm more inclined to like the "boring" clothes rather than
OK, I don't know if you liked that Seth piece but I remember reading most people saying they liked it upthread
I really liked Jonathan's print but the judge's were probably right in that his design isn't meant for clothing (I wish I had this channel in HD so I could have a more informed opinion). I feel like someone really talented could have made a really good dress with that design. Maybe it was only the colors that were off... yep I just paused it... the polka dots were grey and brown. Jonathan says his print is soft and subtle and I agreed with him at the time which is why I was surprised when the judge's were pretty harsh about it (mostly Kors). Not to mention Nina said either the print or the print with the dress was too conceptual (you can't tell what she refers to with the editing of this show). This struck me as an odd thing to say at the time because I was all with Jonathan thinking the print was soft and organic (and a little sad but in a good way :) but Nina probably was referring to the whole piece. That print wasn't terrible at all! Just some of the color choices were off and yes it would take someone really telented to make it work.. but yes I think it could defintely work.
Sorry if I bored you all there - I pulled an Anthony
― CaptainLorax, Saturday, 27 March 2010 03:08 (fifteen years ago)
Just seeing your new post vegemitegrrrl. I agree that Emilio's print looked childish but the colors, diagonals and correct use of space between the branding somehow made it work

Correct use of space? You don't mean in the text, right? Because it looked like a bunch of heart delimited "SAES"es. Also:

I've been digging SA since his kid/adult challenge, but I'm not sure about the print this week, because it totally swallows up the the jacket -- maybe I need to see it in HD, but the print even distracted me from the silhouette.
That said, the difference between SA putting a big SA amoeba on the back of the kiddie look was that it was an embellishment, not the half of the raison d'etre of the design challenge. ESOSA's print wasn't particularly innovative; he could've at least done something novel by making a larger pattern out of the white hearts, but that would've required some serious foresight and mathiness that obviously weren't evident in the fairly haphazard pattern.
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Saturday, 27 March 2010 06:24 (fifteen years ago)
I wouldn't have known where to begin with "saes<3" if it hadn't been pointed out. I don't think that matters so much (I have a t-shirt with unreadable graffiti). What I meant by "good use of space" is like how the writing for that Louis Vuitton picture is 50% white and 50 black% and the gaps are consistent in size. Honestly, I would need a picture of Emilio's print in front of me to judge the use of space again because I'm only speaking from memory (I'm posting with my Blackberry and don't know how to open two browsers at once).
― CaptainLorax, Saturday, 27 March 2010 06:27 (fifteen years ago)
Bottom line is that I don't picture Emilio as a cocky guy. He had what may be a once in your life opportunity to male a print and he decided to go with a logo of his name which I assume he designed on the spot. He made a dress that he liked and he put his heart into it. And Seth Aaron did something very similar - there is no "I only used half my name" about it + kids clothes vs. adult clothes shouldn't mean anything different (or embellishment vs. Not embellishment). And like I said neither of the guys seem all that cocky anyways.

I thought Maya's dress was weird looking and a waste of a really interesting print.
Emilio's print concept was lame, but the print pattern itself actually ended up looking good esp. on the dress itself. Coat seemed forgettable though.
Seth Aaron had the best overall look, but yeah the print was kind of distracting to it. Really digging him overall.
Mila's dress was the worst though. Ugh.

I still hate Emilio, I don't care if everyone loved his dress I couldn't stand it and I can't stand him.my wife spent most of last night in a huff because she couldn't believe the judges loved emilio's design so much. she is feeling vindicated now after reading Tim G's blog post.

I will always love you, Miss Anthony. Although the judges had a point that you do send the same thing down the runway pretty much every time. Still... ;_; xoxo
I absolutely HATED Emilio's ES♥SA fabric. HAY-TED-IT. I can't stand logo prints to begin with, and I don't care who the designer is or how well-established or awesome he or she is. I think it's just super tacky. And Emilio's was super DUPER tacky because it was hard to tell what the hell it was supposed to say (and I got tired of him saying "EEEEmeeeelio THSOSA!") and the way it tiled was awkward and weird. You can see it if you go to the "Rate the Runway" feature on Lifetime's PR page - http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/rate-the-runway/season-7-episode-10. I thought the jacket was ugly, too.
I also kind of hated Seth Aaron's print, even though I love Seth Aaron more and more every ep, with his girlish glee and all around good attitude.
My favorite print? Jonathan's. That's really the only one I would wear (not his look - just that print in some other form). I can see the issues with his dress but wow, the judges were just straight up LOLing in his poor cute little face. Totally disproportionate to the problems with the dress. I mean, shit fire, Milla's model couldn't even walk in her dress and yet, Nina got all "YOUR DRESS MAKES ME SAD. TAKE THESE SAD, DIRTY THINGS AWAY." Plus, what was up with them first getting angry at Anthony for always explaining and coming up with excuses instead of just standing by his design, and then trashing Jonathan for standing by his design???? JUDGES YOU ARE ARBITRARY AND CAPRICIOUS and your decisions would not stand up in a court of fashion appeal.
Between their effusive praise for Emilio's boring, tacky, poorly executed Emilo Loves Seth Aaron fabric and the judge's unnecessarily cruel treatment of Jonathan, and having to say farewell to Anthony, that episode sucked.

I actually liked Emilio at the beginning of the season, because he seemed like such a genius with construction. And I think if you read back you can kind of track where I soured on him. I think I really turned the corner on him with the 'hardware' challenge. That crack about how 'I'm a designer, I design beautiful things, I shouldn't have to do THIS"...and then he throws up that half-assed macrame potholder 'bikini' and fronts like he that was his intention all along. He just doesn't feel genuine to me. He feels, um...entitled. Like it's qed that he's the best designer there and he's going to all the way to win the whole thing. That's how he behaves, but I don't see it matching up with his output. Tattoo-neck Jeffrey was a douche, but he could put his money where his mouth was and work. Fierce Christian was a pain & he drove me to distraction but the dude could leave you speechless. But since the hardware challenge, all I get from Emilio is that he's a whiner, and that he can only pull out a great design when the challenge suits him. Shrug. I just don't have any respect for that.
It's completely personal. I'm not going to spazz out at anyone who likes his designs, because the guy can actually sew and it's not like he doesn't deserve to be there. I've just had it with him, and that SAES<3 print was the straw that broke the camel's back. But I've accepted that he's probably going all the way to the final three. Dunno if I can 'make peace' with it, but whatever. It's just a show, right? :)

Wow. Drama drama drama!
I wonder if Heidi being revealed as the celebrity was the catalyst for Maya? It just seemed odd that she decided at THAT moment that she was out. Like, why go through getting up early and going and seeing what the challenge is before dropping out.Dropping out at all is still a little weird to me...but just the timing seemed strange. Like she was hoping this week's challlenge was "You get a week to work on your look, $1000 at mood and from now on no-one is going home". I did like SA's take on it...the stress is a lot and I guess in a way, good on her for knowing her limitations and just bowing out instead of being a whiny spazz for weeks to come (which usually happens).
Emilio's dress was the clear winner, there's no two ways about that. He structured it beautifully and it fit like a second skin. Really loved Anthony's dress too, I think he's watched enough Oscar Red Carpet specials to know what works. And you could totally picture that dress being worn up to the stage to get an award, it would make such a beautiful entrance. Bless him. Though he's going to get squashed like a bug soon.
Mila's dress was too sporty/cocktaily. I liked it for that but not red carpet at all. SA disappointed me this week. I thought he would do more with texture or shine...it was nicely made but a little blah.
Jay's dress was ridiculous, ill-advised and annoying. He bothers me a lot. But Jonathan really sewed himself into a hole with that dress. And it's almost a foregone PR conclusion that if you make 3 dresses in 24 hours then you are going home. Nothing good can come of that.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 3 April 2010 18:18 (fifteen years ago)
I know I'm the only one who watches MOTR, but the Valeria thing (i.e. SA's model) in the previous episode went through a lot of handwringing about whether or not to stay in the competition in favor of the DK campaign, and ultimately chose to stay... only to leave in the next episode of PR, wtf?
I was also underwhelmed by SA's dress, but I'm very happy that he got some actual face time -- <3 his profanity and his in-your-face affectionateness (LOOOVED how he characterized Anthony's absence at the beginning).
I totally disagree with Maya for dropping out, tbh. IMO she was robbed out of a win, maybe two, and she definitely wasn't consistently in the bottom, so her reasons for leaving feel flimsy to me. In other words, of the actual designers, past and present, who ought to have taken themselves out of the competition, Maya was assuredly not one of them.
Loved seeing Anthony back, but was his dress really that hot? It looked too simple!

I'm really tired of the judges' complaints that a poofy skirt makes people think the ultra-skinny woman wearing it is hiding huge hips underneath. Also, Kors' claim that "no woman in the world" wants her butt to look bigger than it is. Didn't Tim Gunn have "ghetto booty" explained to him on "TGGTS"? Why hasn't he passed this information on to the others?
― lindseykai, Sunday, 4 April 2010 16:10 (fifteen years ago)
wow, the Maya thing came out of the blue. despite being the youngest, she seemed super self-possessed and confident, w/o being terribly annoying about it. Everybody else's insecurities are easy to see, but she took everything in a stride. Or it seemed like she did anyway. kind of weird that Mila is the only woman left on the show -- has there ever been a final 3 that was all men? Because she shouldn't make the final 3 imo. Her last few challenges have been terrible.
― tylerw, Sunday, 4 April 2010 16:47 (fifteen years ago)
The dudes at Project Rungay interviewed Maya about her decision to leave - http://tomandlorenzo2.blogspot.com/2010/04/t-lo-interviews-maya.html. It sounds pretty reasonable to me. I can totally see how she might not want to show a collection this early on in her career. I definitely don't buy into the idea that her quitting is some indication of weak character.
Sad to see Jonathan go. Thrilled to see Anthony back. I hated every single garment that the designers created this time, with the possible exception of Seth Aaron's, and that was mostly because it was very safe and inoffensive and I like black.

maybe there'll be one after they decide who the real final 3 are? isn't there some kind of showdown betw. jay and mila now?
― tylerw, Sunday, 11 April 2010 03:06 (fifteen years ago)
I hope that Mila gets in. And I'm hoping Emilio loses too. Though that circus dress was pretty damn impressive...I really liked the way he pleated the bodice to make it solid black, and billow out into stripes...such a cool effect. But he's just so intolerable now that he's winning. Ugh.
I felt sorry for Anthony over the polyester dress but that moment when Michael goes over to the model to figure out what the material is, "Is it Crepe de Chine? UGH OMG IT'S POLY"...it was kind of classic.
Kind of excited for the two part finale...they had such a great group of designers this year, I have really enjoyed this season a lot. Talented bunch of peeps, for sure.

also funny that emilio was repping for the street/the bronx/graffiti and then you see his collection ...
― tylerw, Monday, 19 April 2010 16:54 (fifteen years ago)
I was surprised by the stuff that Emilio showed Tim. I mean, with all that talk of show-stoppers, and he's bringing...swing coats? and calf-poop green? I always took him for more of a print guy. Oh and that camoflagey logo print? I thought he'd go back to the stuff he was doing at the beginning, creating new fabric with existing prints, manipulating fabric...I'll be interested to see the whole line when he shows.
Felt bad for SA. But I also liked what Tim said, that he was only being so hard on him because he felt SA was up to the challenge. But it's got to be a little soulcrushing to have to start from scratch after making SO many pretty damn cool pieces.
I didn't like Jay's stuff that much. I liked that it was so well made, but I have a real problem with him adding volume to hips all the time. I loved Mila's shiny dress. Am v excited for the finale.
And yes... Tim Gunn on trampoline <3 <3Also the pictionary game with SA's family, I want a looped clip of Tim Gunn saying "Fallopian Tubes?"

yes this

Emilio's unfinished stuff looked worse than almost anything he made for any of the challenges.

"also funny that emilio was repping for the street/the bronx/graffiti and then you see his collection ..."
I know! Weirdest disconnect there. Also I couldn't seem to understand what Emelio thought was innovative about the whole thing.
Jay's stuff was way too busy for my taste (and the judges). Some cool ideas, but it needed to be toned back a bunch.
Mila's shiny dress was the only thing of hers that I liked, but I really liked it.
This season has been my favorite since Season 4, I think.

I looked up Season 5 to make sure you were right, and then I remembered that Season 5 featured that guy "Suede". Uuugh
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:02 (fifteen years ago)
Season 5 had Kenley which was good for drama, but I didn't really like her stuff that much (or anyone elses really.)
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 19 April 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)
Haha Suede. I forgot about him!
Emilio's print was FUG, and tacky, and derivative or his own earlier initial print derivation and just BLERG. I read on Project Rungay that there is apparently A LOT more drama between Tim and Emilio that the editors decided to cut. I'm not sure if I want to see it or not. I feel very protective of Tim Gunn and really don't need to irrationally dislike Emilio any more than I already do.
I really liked Milla's three looks (but I am pretty much right smack in the middle of her target demographic, I think), and while I appreciated Jay's looks and thought they were interesting, I definitely did not like them, if that makes any sense.
I got scared when they put Tim on the trampoline! I was worried about him! Also I nearly peed when he said "fallopian tubes" and would also like a looped gif of that as well.

Trampolines are kind of scary. I was definitely worried that someone was going to break a leg.

emilio was such a pouty babby when he lost! nagl, seemed like he was submitting a resume to dept stores with that show anyway.

I know it's mean of me but I sort of savored seeing Emilio sobbing. I would've gotten cranky if he'd won. And I'M SO SO HAPPY FOR SA!!!!
― piping hot dish and a cup of chat (Stevie D), Friday, 23 April 2010 16:05 (fifteen years ago)
Also, Mila using the term "shout out" without a touch of humor or irony is such a perfect summation of why she is awkward and uncomfortable to watch; she is like an IRL Parker Posey character who is oblivious to how hard she's trying.

I had Wendy flashbacks with Emilios collection...wellmade but ugh all that frikking sportswear gives me Ann Taylor hives. and I hated that print.
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 24 April 2010 03:36 (fifteen years ago)
Wow, Jay's insult to Kerrie is the most hateful thing I've ever heard on that show.
― Nom Nom Nom Chomsky (WmC), Saturday, 24 April 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)
So glad SA won, his felt like an actual show. Big and loud and wearable but not straightup literal. I'm never a fan of the 'wear it straight off the runway' approach... Thats what hurt Emilio and it is a shame because lord knows he can bring the show when he wants to. I felt he was too calculating, surprise surprise Emilio and his old friend hubris, lol. SA did a great job. Loved that yellow plaid coat!!!
― VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 24 April 2010 03:42 (fifteen years ago)
YAAAAAAAY. SA seems like a sweetheart, and LOVED his interaction with Tim, esp. when he moved into the work room: "24 pieces, you mean?" "24 looks."
All of those reaction shots on the runway of Emilio making these skeptical faces were really amazing.
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Saturday, 24 April 2010 05:24 (fifteen years ago)
Actually thought Mila's collection was better than Emilio's, too.
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Saturday, 24 April 2010 05:25 (fifteen years ago)
SA owes Tim big-time, btw.

― Nom Nom Nom Chomsky (WmC), Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:26 (fifteen years ago)
No no Jay. His smug little "oh I took her down" look just betrayed what a complete dick that guy is.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:51 (fifteen years ago)
I am dying to see the reunion, but it's not available at my usual haunts. ;_;
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Saturday, 24 April 2010 16:56 (fifteen years ago)
I loved that EVERYONE in the room was like "that was fucked up, Jay"
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Saturday, 24 April 2010 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

Just watched it... the claws are still out omg. I love Cerri, and I hope at minimum she unleashed a torrent of verbal abuse at Jay afterward.
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Saturday, 24 April 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)
i would love to see the uncut footage of that!

Wait was this on Models or on the reunion?!? What and when did Jay say to Cerri?
― piping hot dish and a cup of chat (Stevie D), Saturday, 24 April 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)
Cerri explained why she didn't like Jay's aesthetic (too "LA") and so he said that he doesn't like models with fat legs and then smirked and then everyone was like you should apologize.
― no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Saturday, 24 April 2010 19:27 (fifteen years ago)
fat legs and bad teeth
― Nom Nom Nom Chomsky (WmC), Saturday, 24 April 2010 19:38 (fifteen years ago)
yea it was v. reactionary, it's not like 'too la' is really hurtful & jay even said something abt thinking of himself as an la designer
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 24 April 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)
I can't seem to muster a lot of hate for Emilio, esp. in light of Jay. For all of his aloofness and ego and crybabyism, Emilio has at least a hint of rationality: being able to accept Nina's explanation for why he didn't win, having the tact to say that while Ping isn't a designer, she is an artist with coherent vision.
― Daleks in NYC (Leee), Sunday, 25 April 2010 17:36 (fifteen years ago)
Emilio's cockyness never got to me. It wasn't like he was insulting other designers so much as he was saying "I'm the best".
Anyways I actually preferred Emilio's collection to Mila's. I saw Emilio's clothes as wearable and lots of the clothes seemed tailor-made for black women (and maybe that is one way you can interpret him saying that he is repping for "the street/the bronx" besides the bright use of color). Emilio did hurt himself by making his stuff very safe. My sister, the one who got me into watching Project Runway, liked Emilio's print. I thought it had weird colors. I'm gonna have to look at everyone's stuff again online.
Mila's collection was "let's throw some stripes up here and a polka dot-like print down here, make lots of unsymmetrical black and white stuff and call it cutting edge".
Seth Aaron deserved to win for sure. I knew he would win as soon as he showed his collection
