the ax thing was pretty ridic even by jack standards...seemed like a decent start...kept wondering who the reporter was until i realized she was the girl from "kissing jessica stein"

the ax killing is one of the three best kills in the history of 24 -- #1 probably has to be when he choked the guy out with his legs in the mini-movie from before last season

How do Jack's memorable kills compare with Sayid's? Im sure Jack has more opportunity and his are also less likely to function as light relief.

well, i'm not liking this goateed dude who keeps threatening starbuck. i was hoping "go to my house and we'll talk when i get home" would lead to him not being on the show anymore, because you know she's going to be at work for the next 20 hours. but of course he's at her house for all of twenty minutes before he calls to whine that she's not paying attention to him.

but yeah, i'm enjoying how quickly everything's happening and i look forward to many more episodes of renee chopping off dudes' hands.

i think this must be the easiest show to write for because you can literally write any ridiculous thing that you want and it's just 24 being 24

Loved the President freaking out that she was negotiating with someone with dodgy human rights practices.

This week's was proper good. Nothing too dumb, nothing too cringey (aside from the drone guy watching Starbuck's blackmail guy on the CCTV).

Can't wait to see who they choose to play the British Prime Minister.

Forgetting the immensely disturbing for all kinds of reasons Renee / Leoben relationship, of course.

yeah, this episode didn't have a lot of big plot stuff or surprises, but it was still well-done. i do hope the white house plot goes big guns soon, though, cherry jones is awesomest in a crisis.

i hope jack wears his german businessman glasses for the rest of the season, he looks so dapper.

you know, I thought I saw her stab him in the crotch too but then it flashed to jack and then flashed back to renee and now she is stabbing dude in the stomach. there probably was no crotch stab but just another stomach stab from that same weird camera angle

i think it would take many many years for renee to recover but she will probably be halfway recovered (if not dead) by the end of this season

eight seasons in and jack + CTU are like an old married couple, jack choke-slams a bureaucrat against a wall and CTU's just like "oh jack, stop being such a knob and get out of here."

this past episode pretty much redeemed the whole season for me -- it was so good that i'm willing to overlook the notion that one could disarm a bomb of that nature remotely from an office in the matter of three minutes. the interaction of the untested and unprepared terrorist and ctu field agent were gold. the most tense i've felt all season.

I know it was like 5 episodes ago, but I'm still laughing at Jack's disguise as "German arms dealer Ernst Meir" = eyeglasses + cigarette.

Should have put File 33 on Stephen Root's 100gb thumb drive and biked it over to the turrists.

DAY 8: 3:00 AM - 4:00 AM: Xanatos Gambit with a side of Always Save The Girl spiced with some Faking The Dead ending with a big ol' plate of EMP.

The Dana side story is dumb but there always has to be some sort of non-terrorist related side thing on every season of 24. Anyways, I'm ad for that EMP because I'm sure there is some more corny fun action stuff not far behind. More Jack please. And since it's the last season maybe we'll see Chloe kicking some heads :)

Jack throwing bombvest dude in the oxygen vault thing was pretty cool

CTU has to be the least secure place to be when terrorist attacks are going down on U.S. soil, and CTU must have the worst hiring/screening processes in the entire US government. How many moles and people capable of being blackmailed/compromised have they accidentally hired at CTU?

that's my whole problem with the dana story line, is like i'm supposed to believe that ctu didn't do a thorough enough background check to not figure out that she was using an alias

shocking Dana reveal = lol city. to be fair, no one in my viewing circle saw it coming, because it makes Dana the worst secret terrorist mole in 24 history. if Hastings wasn't also the most inexplicably lenient boss in 24 history, she would've been fired four hours ago for suspiciously abandoning her post.

This week I most enjoyed the 30 minute shootout that NYPD completely ignored.

And if your plan was to transport your bomb thingie into Manhatten by boat, why go to all the trouble of kidnapping the girl to set her up to explode the EMP that disables the radioactive detector doodads on the bridges and tunnels?

at least I can say I like Dana better more now as a bad guy than when she was just insane

i actually thought the dana reveal was a good plot move tbh -- basically when she strangled the PO i was like "this has to be the most irrational character in the history of 24" so when they revealed her i was like "oh well i guess..." -- interested to see how it plays out, at least

dana as lol yet another mole is at least better than dana as damsel in distress, but her whole story is a big minus and the main story is kinda blah this year. otoh the last couple of seasons have peaked way too early so maybe they are saving the best for last this year

yeah i mean, they never wait this long to reveal who the mole is, but at least she purportedly has a shady background? i really disliked the subplot involving her & the fake kenny powers & then the PO thing was even more annoying

& this episode has definitely picked up a bit in the last 5 or so episodes

yeah i agree that dana-as-mole is bound to be more interesting than her previous plotline, it just feels super-gimmicky and non-organic. like, we've seen dana by herself a million times making anguished faces over various complications, but once she's revealed as the mole she puts on the flat-affect "i'm totally a bad guy" mien. and i can't get over her disappearing from work for two hours during a major terrorist crisis, just to follow her boyfriend around and glower at him! you'd think both CTU and her terrorist friends would find this unacceptable.

but whatever, i was also annoyed when president logan turned out to be evil, and that was the best thing to happen to the show in years.

my sisters and i likened it to that Futurama "what-if?" episode where Leela becomes slightly more impulsive. "i killed one person on impulse, and then I had to kill another, and another!" i was looking forward to future episodes where dana shamefacedly dragged body after body into the conference room to stick inside the vent.

That's more mindblowing that Dana's reveal as a mole for Whateveristan which I called about 15 minutes before it happened (my wife can verify this).

I wonder if TPTB will have Jack make the ultimate sacrifice in the series finale since one of the premises of the show is that anyone can die. Probably not when the possibility of a future film franchise out there.

I gave up 24 after about five weeks this season. That's where they went with her character? Aye yae yae.

OH NOES SPOILER (we're a week or so behind in the UK - we've just had the car that blew up making everyone's computers go whiny). Not that I care, because we've gone some time without there being a mole. So not only did a girl on a fake ID pass the security checks, but she's a mole as well. Fucking A+ well done 24.

Felt like the writers decided to make Dana a mole maybe a week ago.

oh damn, the ending totally got me. crafty terrorists used some Amazing Race-style editing. everyone's shock was well done, especially cherry jones.

as much as i hate dana i was rooting for her to comedy-garrote arlo. he was acting weirdly this episode, what are the chances he's a secondary mole she didn't know about?

yeah, frankly i'm okay if they kill him off this season so long as he maintains his record.

last 3 episodes (those two dudes committing treason / inducing a heartache on Ethan + ambush on Jack and Hassan by black ops + Hassan handover + mole surfacing + Freddie Prinze nearly poppin' one off onto Dana's head + the stealth rescue attempt and dead Hassan) were fucking awesome... picked the game up.

Totally left me guessing what kind of danger still lurks out there for Jack, seeing as he's still got 5 or so hours left.

Renee's death left everyone watching (still) this show speechless? My wife thought it was a bullshit move by the writers. I'd say that is par for the frickin' course. I think that 24 has always been a series that had better direction and production than actual scriptwriting.

Like the way how the docs called her death after about 45 seconds. Didn't even break out the paddles.

And clearly whoever wrote this episode didn't get the final say over whether Logan is being brought back as either a baddie or a goodie, probably because it hadn't been decided at time of writing, hence why his intentions were kept so unclear.

And the shuffling around of all those new presidential plot characters - the Russian dude, the bald IRK foreign minister, Logan's executive assistant - just makes it seem like one of those badly-acted unfunny Youtube fan parodies, but with a bigger budget.

I would like to applaud Chloe's promotion. Looking forward to Chloe ordering Jack to stand down, get her a cheeseburger.

but all is forgiven because it's gregory itzin, that dude makes the most amazing faces.

also love that Jack's guerilla underground weapons dude is keepin it low profile, bunker-style, off the grid BUT CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN MIDTOWN MANHATTAN(btw there is aging badly & then there is Michael Madsen - where did his eyebrows go??)

idk, last season was all about how jack's bad influence changed renee from a person who followed strict idealistic procedure to a person who did WHATEVER IT TAKES RAR!!! i can see him feeling responsible for her breakdown, also turned on cuz now she's basically the female him.

she was okay last season but her character seemed a little too mental this season

Gregory Itzin was so great in this episode, particularly his reaction to masked psycho Jack.

Agreed, he was awesome during the opening just watching Fox News and putting on his tie. Genuinely smug as all hell.

yeah, jack advancing through the tunnel and logan pointing straight ahead and shrieking "IT'S JACK BAUER!!" might be the greatest 24 moment ever. his terror was palpable.

jack better not shoot chloe or anything during his descent to the dark side. chloe's been untouchable like jack in terms of the writers' axe, but i fear for her in a series finale.

also if they don't manage to shoehorn aaron in here i'll be super-peeved.

they really constructed this whole web so, so well -- bringing back the nuclear weapons thing was brilliant -- this is honestly as good as a movie -- kinda stunning that they have pulled this off tbh -- it's the fourth bourne

they have really upped their game in the last quarter of this season, it was a bit hit and miss beforehand

Thought that was pretty decent ending, but I really wanted the drone to follow jack down a road with the old sad hulk music going.
