omar how did u score if ppl combined lotr or kill bill or w/e this (37. War of the Worlds/Munich) means - ftr, this is how my ballot was originally formatted. Regarding LOTR & Kill Bill, I changed my votes to ROTK & KB1 respectively, as reps for the larger group. In retrospect, I should have voted FOTR instead.

I was very surprised by the fact that I liked The Others - was totally setting out to dismiss it when I saw it, but it was a finely crafted creepy movie, and totally worth putting with stuff like The Innocents.

was really hoping to get -something- by claire denis on the list. i forgot 'american psycho' was 00s, it's really good. there are a ton of films i haven't yet seen so i almost didn't vote! i haven't yet seen 'esther kahn' and 'a christmas tale' by desplechin, and i bet the assayas films i didn't see were the good ones (not a big fan of 'demonlover' and got tired of 'boarding gate,' never finished watching that).

daria - i wonder if you and i were the only ones to vote for mooladé.
― sarahel, Friday, 12 February 2010 05:01 (fifteen years ago)
i wonder. i was hoping sembene would get some credit. i know african cinema in general doesn't get a lot of attention but this person made a list and some of the complete films are on youtube, so.. more things i plan to watch, when i find the time. iirc a number of filmmakers in west africa got started from going to film school in the soviet union actually. but the infrastructure often isn't there to support filmmakers..

Films that I should've voted for, but completely forgot about: Eureka, King of Kong. Also, I was pretty sure I had Together and Children of Men in my poll, but it looks like I didn't, whoops! Next time I should spend more time coming up with my list.
I was kinda surprised that no Kim Ki-Duk movies made it into the top 100. I thought he was one of the director finds of the 00s.

It is, isn't it? I think if more people here had seen it it would've had a good chance of making it to the top 100, it's the sort of movie I think a lot of ILXors would love.

I was gonna say exactly the opposite. Since every scene - except one - in SFtSF has an umoving camera shooting the scene from mid-to-far range, and each scene is arranged and composed like a (moving) painting, I'd say a lot of the details are lost if you watch it on small screen. Like the final scene at the dump: if you watch it on a small telly or a computer screen, you probably have to squint your eyes an awful lot to see what's going on. But I've only seen it at cinema, so I can't say for sure if the movie makes sense on the small screen. And I guess it's better to watch it like that than not to watch it at all.
