Quiz Night 1: Music

Someone suggested a quiz night in CJ's. As her occasional barman, and as someone with not just my music collection in a database, I am in position to randomly select (computerisation's fun) 50 questions from a couple of hundred I wrote for a Trivial Pursuit variant. First correct answer gets a point; most points wins a compilation tape (randomly compiled, obv) from me. If this is a success (i.e. a few people have a go) I can do others on books, TV, movies, comics and art.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1. Name three of the members of Slade.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Noddy Holder, Jim Lea, Dave Hill. Thank you Reeves and Mortimer.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oo! Oo! Noddy Holder, Dave Hill, Jimmy Lea

stevie mitch, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grrrr. I'm off to play darts...

stevie mitch, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn you Dom.

Ally C, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

First point to Dom (Don Powell was the other).

2. Who did Captain Sensible (who I've met twice, irrelevantly) describe as "the greatest rock 'n' roll bass player in the world"?

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No penalties for wrong answers, except you can't make two guesses in a row - you have to wait for at least one other poster to guess first.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don Powell, Dave Hill, Noddy Holder

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bootsy Collins?

Dom Passantino, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Dom: not Bootsy, no.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was really slow answering there. But I posted before I saw you had said Don Powell. Honest.

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Noddy Holder, Don Powell, Jimmy Lea

Dan Perry, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wild guess.......... Bill Wyman?

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm afraid there are no more points for naming members of Slade. We're on Q2 now.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, CJ: not Bill Wyman. And these are randomly selected questions, in case anyone thinks there is significance in asking about rock bassists this week.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not John Entwistle, then?

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed not the Ox: and anyway you weren't entitled to another guess until someone else has had a go. But since you're not right, there's no point being pedantic.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sid Vicious

Kris, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"In The Ghetto".

Dan Perry, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously a question like this is asking for trouble, as I don't know all her recordings. I want the one she had a hit with, which wasn't In The Ghetto.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Suspicious Minds

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A second point to CJ, who takes the lead. Yes, some are much easier than others.

5. To whom was Steve Lillywhite married?

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm asking a question! Which talk show host did the beach boys sing about?

jel --, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kirsty MacCall. They were divorced when she had the fling with the speedboat driver.

too slow, dan

dan, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

SON OF A BITCH.

Dan Perry, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dan is now just one point behind CJ. Q15 will be the last tonight - I will resume earlier tomorrow evening, maybe 6.30 or 7pm UK time, for the final 35 questions, given a following wind.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The sad thing is that this is probably the closest to a game show I'm ever going to get.

Dan Perry, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The best bit about this was that I was so tired I went to bed after question 8 ......... but I've logged in this morning to find I'm still in the lead!!

I *love* this quiz!!!

C J, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAMN, I'm always late for these things!

The sad thing is that this is probably the closest to a game show I'm ever going to get.

Perry, this is the one game show I've seen where you can get ahead by being fast on the draw, without the cheesy prizes and warm plastic fembots.....

Nichole Graham, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You're not too late, Nichole - it will resume this evening, when I get round to it, and with 35 questions but the top scorer only having 4 points, it's perfectly possible to come from nowhere to win.

Also, since I have hundreds of questions like these in half a dozen categories, if this seems popular I shall run others. I suspect TV and movies, as well as music obv, might go down better than comics or art, but I may be wrong.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dan - to get ahead of Dan, stop taking the time to press the shift key!

Tactical Tim (hey, wasn't that a T. Rex, er, 'number' as I believe you musos say?)

, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Noddy Holder, Don Powell, Jimmy Lea.

Steve.n., Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Good evening. Rules reminder: one guess allowed before someone else has a go, but no other penalty for wrong answers. One point for the FIRST correct answer. I am the sole judge etc., but feel free to argue for fun. 35 more questions to go, so it's all still to play for. We restart with the following question.

16. Boyz II Men's End Of The Road spent 13 weeks at #1 in the US, breaking the record set by what single in 1956?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Can't Help Falling In Love"?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Dan: incorrect. Someone else has to have a go before you're entitled to another guess.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

White Xmas?

Rock around the clock?

Jailhouse rock?

Queen of the young uns who ask what exactly is rimminG, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DAMMIT. Now I know the answer!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hound Dog!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am only taking the first of Queen G's guesses, which is wrong, so Dan can have another go. Only then will I comment on Queen G's second guess, etc.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(please refresh, Martin!)

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, Hound Dog (and, I've just noticed while doing some checking) Don't Be Cruel spent 11 weeks at the top for Elvis. Dan Perry is now joint third.

Montserrat Caballe. (Now I have to go actually do work, BOO.)

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Another for Dan, who is now equal with CJ in first place - but he is off to work so may not pick up any more points, so it's again wide open!

19. Where can you "study oceanography"?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In the NAvy

Queen of the young uns who ask what exactly is rimminG, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

alan partridge

Queen of the young uns who ask what exactly is rimminG, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Freed is generally (contentiously) credited with the term "rock and roll", but not this one, Michael.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

can i have another go now? and say Jerry Wexler?

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i got confused in my hurry!

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right second time, Michael, and the intervening guess permitted yours.

Hank Thompson's 'The Wild Side of Life'

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Very good, Neil - I thought that might slow the pace down. Your first point.

23. Who attempted a comeback behind a mask on TV talent show Opportunity Knocks in the '70s? (Tough for non-UK people! Sorry!)

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Throbbing Gristle

Queen of the young uns who ask what exactly is rimminG, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well they did perform on there once in 1974, and they used to wear masks:

Queen of the young uns who ask what exactly is rimminG, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a comeback though: this was a former pop star.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i spose yr gonna tell me now that throbbing gristle weren't pop!

Storms off in fake huff looking for strangely tasty monkey sperm

25. Who sang on Yello'as The Rhythm Divine?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's Yello's, obv - a typo, not an obscure similar-sounding act.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so why is 'Act Naturally' credited to 'Morrison/Russell' on the back of my copy of "Help!"?

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

billy mackenzie

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dammit, I should have known I'd get at least one wrong. Since Buck recorded the original and both wrote and first recorded the other, Buck Owens is a 75% correct answer and I'll not take away the point. I will add a half point to Neil in recognition of spotting this, however. Sigh.

Yes to Billy Mackenzie, though I was thinking of Shirley Bassey - I'd forgotten he sang on another version of it. I think the Bassey was the single.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I assume those are the same people, despite the varying email addresses?

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Correct - Neil goes on to 5.5 (check back if you're interested why).

37. What is Donovan's surname? (That's the folk-pop singer credited just as Donovan, not the reggae singer or anyone else called Donovan something...)

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

leitch

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

googling "who do you think you are" brings up the buddha, jesus christ, and alcoholics anonymous

So near and yet so far: no points!

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil is now only half a point off first place!

38. What was Jimmy Reed's wife's role in many of his performances?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

SOngwriter? She fed him the lyrics?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

backing vocals (harmonies)

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

she played a homemade electric instrument much like bodiddly

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

She didn't write the songs nor did she sing.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would like to see a homade electric instrument that was much like Bo Diddly! (How would it compare to Tom's homemade vibrator, though?)

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i forget what they called it but it was kinda a guitar but not called one

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope, no instrument. Note that I particularly referenced his performances - it was only when playing live.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Much of his success can be credited to his friend Eddie Taylor, who played on most of his sessions, and his wife, Mama Reed, who wrote many of his songs and even sat behind him in the studio reciting his lyrics into his forgetful ear as he sang."

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry ~ like bo diddly's guitar

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I see now. She was a drummer!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i hope you haven't been Googling all these, Dan!

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

she held his hand/drugs/glass/coat?

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Er, maybe she wasn't. *Backpedal, backpedal*)

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

from the sleevenotes of my copy of "Blues Masters: the best of Jimmy Reed" : "Bright Lights, Big City was a textbook Jimmy & Mama Reed duet, and this one found the husband-and-wife team writing in tandem"

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the first time I've heard that she wrote the songs - I've not seen her credited on the records (which proves nothing!), but yes, the prompting him with the lyrics when he was drunk on stage (i.e. usually) was the unusual role I was after. 1 point to Dan Perry, who edges ahead again.

39. Who composed Swanee River, Oh! Susanna and Camptown Races?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

easy foster, umm s. something. any beginner piano player knows

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My album with Bright Lights, Big City just credits it to J. Reed. Sorry about my ignorance here - this is the risk when trying to make your questions tricky for knowledgeable people, and wide-ranging.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

UM! UM! SHIT.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGH. And that one was EASY.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes ddd, Stephen Foster.

40. Whose first hit, under a less-known name, was Hey Schoolgirl?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shit, why did i quote the line about them writing it together.

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

simon before garfunkle? or recorded by both i think during their school days. (they met in school right?)

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Simon & Garfunkel!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

simon & garfunkle as tom & jerry

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so did anyone get a point for the jimmy reed question in the end?

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ddd right again - it was S&G together as Tom And Jerry.

So with just ten questions left, the leaders are: Dan Perry on 8, dan regan on 7, Neil on 6.5, Rhia on 5, CJ on 4.

41. Who was the support on Talking Heads' first UK headline tour?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Another US band.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Re Jimmy Reed, Dan Perry was first to mention her prompting role and her songwriting one (which, it occurs to me, was not a role during performances anyway!) so he got the point, as I have already said.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dire straits

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Correct Neil (I was there!): you are now between the Dans and in second.

42. On whose book is The Fall's The Joke based?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, i missed Dan's first jimmy reed post somehow.

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

something by bukowski - just a guess

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm crafty like that.

I have absolutely no guess for this question, so I"m going to say Camus.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Milan Kundera

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kundera?

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not Bukowski or Camus, I'm afraid.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil gets in first and goes into first, by a half point (I can see arguments ahead...).

43. By what name was Virginia Pugh better known?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

late fall sucks anyways

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will resist deducting any marks from ddd for his anti-late-Fall nonsense!

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

kitty wells

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

tammy wynette

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shit no

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tammy Winette.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil extends his lead!

44. Name three of the Four Tops.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Levi Stubbs, Abdul Fakir, Lawrence Payton

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

benson, peyton and stubbs

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don Powell, Dave Hill, Noddy Holder!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil gets in first and is pulling away -he's first into double figures!

45. By what name was Vincent Furnier better known?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alice cooper of the spiders!

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ddd is right, and moves onto 3 points.

46. Which boxer had his own reggae label?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If anyone but the one I know of is cited, I'll need corroboration!

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

muhamed ali had everything

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

prince buster

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cecil "Prince Buster" Campbell

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think Muhammed Ali ever had his own reggae label (he recorded a reasonable 'Stand By Me', though). And Prince Buster may have boxed, but I'm looking for someone known as a successful pro boxer who set up his own reggae label.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shit, Berry Gordy

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

doesn't anybody know? how about tyson?

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lennox Lewis?

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Still no. I'll give it a few more minutes before launching a new question. I looked up Prince Buster, and can't find evidence of him being pro as a boxer, and it's certainly his less known career.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris Eubank

OK, I'm being silly now

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what am i talking about Berry Gordy - in my excitement i forgot all about the 'reggae' part of the question.

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Frank Bruno?

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Still no correct answer.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugar Ray Leonard?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Prince Naz?

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Prince Naseem?

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Still nothing. I think we'll give up on this. The answer is Jamaican- born former world welterweight champ Lloyd Honeyghan.

47. Who was the producer on "I'm The Urban Spaceman"?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

new questions please!

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Paul McCartney? i think he has some involvement

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

leslie kong

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and under a pseudonym, too

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil Innes?

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael in instantly there (unless he is still guessing at boxers with reggae labels) and correctly, though he was credited as Apollo C. Vermouth.

48. Sittin' In The Balcony was whose first hit and only million seller?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eddie cochran

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eddie Cochrane

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, Neil, the only person who can stop you is Dan Perry, by mopping up the last three questions.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cochrane

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm too slow and too tired ........ I am giving up and collapsing in the corner. Sorry

C J, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And Neil is fastest again, and clinches his win. I'll run on to 50 anyway...

49. Which was the first NME compilation tape?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't care...

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shitty

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1983 I think, and it wasn't that bad.

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*slumps in the corner with CJ*

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's earlier than that, Dan.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

rip rig and panic might have been on it. i don't know. i live in california.

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was only joking DDD, if you meant me.

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No dan, no Rip, Rig & Panic (I have it here). It was co-produced with Rough Trade.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i meant it in the same way you did

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil: I attempted to email you (you're entitled to a randomly- selected C90 comp from me!) but the email bounced back. Can you contact me for your 'prize'?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what happened to the 50th question?

ddd, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See what happens when you have to leave the room? Sigh.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

May as well add a 50th, for the sake of completeness, though there's not been much effort on #49, since Neil settled the result.

50. Who co-wrote I've Been Loving You Too Long (To Stop Now)?

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you click the link on the page after posting to set a cookie. or do you mean you've tried that and it doesn't work?

michael, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a computer illiterate so I don't know what you're talking about. I do like cookies though.

neil, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Rhia is right. The answer to #49: C81 was their first. (It precedes NME001, Dancin' Master.) Final places:
1. Neil
2. Dan Perry
3. dan regan
4. Rhia
5. CJ (overnight leader, but didn't really turn up for day 2)
6= ddd and David
8= Dom and Michael
10= Kris and Queen G
Since this has run to 264 postings and eleven people got questions right, I'll run another sometime soon - maybe at the weekend, or whenever I have some time. I'll try a different subject area too. Thanks to everyone for playing.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Martin, it was good fun.

Rhia, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That was fun! I look forward to the one on comics.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you very much Martin.

dan, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Poo, this did look like fun and I missed it. Run another one soon, Martin!

Vinnie, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Queen G of the coffee cups in distress, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don Powell, Dave Hill, Jimmy Lea

Jeff W, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bother, I missed this. Alas, alackaday.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
