that's where I'm a viking
Used to describe some skill or ability that one excels in. Originally coined by Ralph Wiggum of the Simpsons, saying "Sleep! That's where I'm a viking!" While obviously meaning that he is a viking in his dream, it has been reinterpreted by nerds to mean that Ralph excels at sleep, and describes himself as a "viking" in that field.

Confusion concerning Goofy and Pluto

Disney has needed to deal with a certain amount of confusion concerning the fact that the anthropomorphic Goofy, and dog-like Pluto often appear on screen together, yet are the same species. On their web site, it stated that "Goofy was originally created as Dippy Dawg" and "was created as a human character, as opposed to Pluto, who was a pet, so Goofy walked upright and had a speaking voice". This problem was humorously illustrated in the movie Stand By Me in which one of the boys ponders, "Mickey's a mouse, Donald's a duck, and Pluto's a dog. What's Goofy?" There is also an episode of the Disney Channel series Even Stevens called "Scrub Day" where in Louis' rallying-the-troops speech he wonders why Goofy got to walk and talk and Pluto has to eat from a dog bowl. This confusion is also mentioned in the French movie La Cité de la peur.

Scrappy Doo was actually a benefit to the series, which was going down the tubes anyway - Scrappy or no. Scrappy was always actively looking for clues while Scooby and Shaggy slinked around looking for snacks. When Scrappy found a clue, he'd interpret it to make the case for it being evidence. I love the little dude and my son does too. I'm sure that whatever Gen-Xer backlash we feel towards Scrappy will seem very alien to future generations.

Have you even watched Scrappy Doo as an adult in the context of "okay, this is a children's show whose audience is children"? Or are you guys just traumatized by things changing when you were kids? Scrappy's an outstanding role model.

as a role model, Scrappy tells kids "just show up to a party where you weren't invited & nobody wanted you & tell a bunch of jokes nobody's even trying to hear because prior to your arrival they'd just been getting high and talking about ghosts instead of being goal-oriented go-getter types who when they've grown up will use phrases like 'moving forward' in actual conversation"

Particularly in the Scooby Doo tv movies from the late 80s, Scrappy is great at identifying evidence and then using rational thought to interpret that evidence. He does this out loud for the audience, in real time, so kids can sort of see the process that someone would go through to solve a mystery to an extent that isn't nearly as evident in the early TV shows.

I think my equivalent of Scrappy is that fucking singing and dancing alien they introduced near the end of the movie Explorers. Loved the first 2/3 of that movie so much as a kid. Hated that alien. Hated it so much.

For example, check out this clip from Scooby Doo and Zombie Island

This shit is truly creepy - note the unusually realistic animation style. I feel kind of bad letting my son and two small nieces even watch this episode.

Personally, I think the episodes and cartoon movies that have come out in the past decade are far better than old school Scooby Doo. The animation is improved, they are a bit more self-aware of the ridiculousness of the premise, the episodes feature some peppy musical interludes, etc.

It's been so long that I don't feel qualified to speak about Scrappy, but I seem to recall that he was the one who was looking for clues... which makes him an evidence-based mystery solver, which I can get behind.
