Berries, Peaches

Like I said in the other threads -- no burritos? OK, I still have tacos. No ribs? OK, I still have pulled pork.

dyao, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, burritos take berries for sure. I've found that berries are the fruit most likely to grow mold on them in your fridge. Peaches however, mold medium status notwithstanding, are so tasty and juicy. They're also grown on beautiful trees

http://thundafunda.com/2/traveling-pictures-tourism/download/Peach%20Tree%20Orchard%20in%20Full%20Bloom,%20Lancaster,%20California.jpg

whereas ribs are grown on a pig

http://www.elated.co.za/images/pig4cuddle.jpg.

Do you really want to eat that? They're smarter than dogs you know!

hard to vote against burritos but let us consider:

blueberries
raspberries
gooseberries
elderberries
blackberries
marionberries
grapes

moreover, despair not, those who with me mourn the loss of the watermelon. botanically speaking, "berries" are any fleshy fruit produced of a single ovary. that means that, should berries win, both watermelon & tomatoes are back in. nb this is only true if you're willing to be a pedantic dick about stuff but I am perfectly willing to to be a pedantic dick for the love of tomatoes.

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:11 (fifteen years ago)

blueberries are my all time favorite food - easily - but I'm averaging the berries into a 'mixed berry' concept, and burritos def beat that.

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:13 (fifteen years ago)

I feel at this point you simply can't be polite anymore, time to rig the polls

corn piece in mouffetard (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:15 (fifteen years ago)

if it were blueberries vs. burritos it would be very clear what I'd be voting for - and I'd be voting for blueberries. but instead I am considering this 'average burrito meal' vs 'average berry-themed meal'

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:15 (fifteen years ago)

when considering the average burrito meal, consider every burrito made in the landmass that is eurasia

corn piece in mouffetard (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

blueberries are the best

I think I voted ribs in the original poll, but I'm switching my vote to peaches. Ribs taste great, but I really hate eating greasy food with my fingers.

peter in montreal, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

yeah but I don't consider those 'burritos'

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

but you are voting blueberries vs. burritos, because if burritos win, blueberries are gone - if this were politics, you would be the one arguing my formulation here, like, quite passionately iirc

burritos, peaches cos I don't want to think about my previous vote again

but it's been so long since I had a burrito that I think I could do without them. & yeah: at home when we have burritos they're just tacos with bigger tortillas. So really I should be thinking of burritos in the wild, i.e. Mission burritos, but it's been a while since I lived in the Bay Area so even they are a distant memory. But Mission burritos aren't just tacos in a bigger tortilla: they are ordered in a way a taco can't be: a layer of this, a layer of that---and don't mention the Taco Bell monstrosity known as a layered burrito since they had some horrible creamy sauce iirc.

and the case here for berries is strong! It's just that I can't help but think of bitter or sour raspberries or blueberries, which shock the palette disproportionately to the pleasure that the good ones provide. But black currants presently rule my world so...well, one team will win, one team will lose, as John Madden once put it.

meanwhile i live in berry paradise and i would assert that strawberries are a much more powerful god than the apple.

yeah, no contest. somewhere towards the beginning of this deathmatch, i called strawberries the single most perfect food in the universe (or some ridiculous such), and would still totally fight in the defense of that precept. have bought two 4-pound boxes within the last month or so - for like $5 each! good, fresh, crisp apples can be astounding though. too often taken for granted.

in iowa you buy fresh og corn at a farmer's market that's in the parking lot of the hy-vee, not a "farmer's market" that's actually an outdoor grocery store pavilion - you get 10-12 ears to the dollar at the height of harvest, and there isn't any corn in california that can compare to it. in 28 years of living in CA I never had a tomato that could complete with the tomatoes that pass for average in the midwest.
