pizza tacos

might have done a fight-the-canon anti-pizza vote this round if it were something that I ate / cared about more than soup.

tacos vs eggs is like infinity vs. infinity but the tiebreaker is 'which would piss off lj more'

Other baked goods maybe, but definitely not bread! Unless American breads are totally different from Finnish ones.

Tuomas, Saturday, 7 August 2010 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

Because in here there's only a few special breads that have egg in them. 99% of breads are made without them.

hahaha I remember when I first learned the word "disingenuous".

Things to remember re: tacos

about two dozen options from the meats column
also fish tacos
about three dozen options from the vegetables column
dozens of different directions to go in spicewise
breakfast tacos of eggs/cheese/green onions/salsa
corn or flour tortillas
do the math and you get just as many taco varieties as soup varieties

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE CGI (jjjusten), Saturday, 7 August 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

Soup definitely has way more variety than pizza. Pizza is like the missionary position of food, it rarely fails to deliver, but rarely surprises either. If you're up for some kinky shit, go to soup.

Tuomas, Saturday, 7 August 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

Pizza & eggs for me.

This whole tourney has provided me with a great deal of disappointment, but I'm honestly happy that two of my all-time favorite foods have advanced this far. If, however, it goes the other way, I will cry.

Soup: not very interesting as a food, no matter the ingredients.
Tacos: burritos, eliminated long ago, are superior in every conceivable way.

All I wanted was a Pepsi and she wouldn't giveittome. (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 8 August 2010 08:29 (fifteen years ago)

Tacos are better than burritos because you can have several tacos as a meal, each with a different delicious filling, whereas with burritos everything's jumbled together.

Plus tacos are really good with *sigh* limes

sarahel, Sunday, 8 August 2010 10:25 (fifteen years ago)

So Americans actually use eggs to make bread? Really?

actually no - jjjusten is either mistaken or exclusively eats extremely rich breads. your standard loaf at any u.s. bakery won't have eggs in it. however your standard supermarket loaf has all manner of dough conditioners & usually some high fructose corn syrup, which like I know people get all "gah stop bitching about the hfcs" but bread is like the #1 case against it because there is no reason to put that shit in bread = they know you'll eat anything so they just dump it into the bread, lol @ these guys watch I bet I can get them to eat it in bologna no you can't oh yeah wanna bet?

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Sunday, 8 August 2010 10:31 (fifteen years ago)

Corn syrup in bread? That sounds weird. In here syrup is used only in "limppu", a special type of sweet bread.

Tuomas, Sunday, 8 August 2010 10:50 (fifteen years ago)

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Sunday, 8 August 2010 10:57 (fifteen years ago)

IMO adding eggs to bread makes it more like bun, which is not the kind of bread I prefer. My favourite is rye bread, which is never ever made with eggs, I can't even imagine what it would taste like if they put those in the dough.

Another mark in tacos' favor (over pizza) in my mind is that they just seem leaner and healthier. Pizza meats are fattier, there's more cheese -- I can eat a fairly large meal of tacos and sides and not feel like I want to puke or hibernate.

Runny egg haters: how do you like your scrambled eggs?

I would not touch egg yolk in its unscrambled form until I was 21. Now, my fried eggs need to be cooked so that the part near the white has cooked through but there is still some sauciness at the centre. I dip all the other things from a cooked breakfast into the egg and mop the remains of everything up with whatever toast is left. Then there's egg soldiers - a three-minute boiled egg you dip buttered toast strips into while it sits in an egg cup. VERY British. The same egg is good for dipping buttered asparagus, too.

Still hate solid-mass yolks in boiled eggs.

Runny egg haters: how do you like your scrambled eggs?

very, very hard-scrambled; in fact, if they get rubbery when they are cold, that is perfect

yeah

would eat century egg

visit europe more (acoleuthic), Monday, 9 August 2010 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

According to a persistent myth, century eggs are, or once were, prepared by soaking eggs in horse urine. The myth may arise from the pungent odor of ammonia given off by century eggs, which is reminiscent of urine.[5] Horse urine itself, however, is only slightly basic, ranging in pH from 7.5 to 7.9.[6] Though human urine left standing can reach a maximum pH of around 9.4—the same as a 1-molar solution of ammonia—it is still less than that produced by mixing quicklime (calcium oxide) or wood ash in water.[7]

In Thai and Lao, the common word for this type of preserved egg literally means "horse urine eggs", either due to this myth or the distinctive ammonia odor of century eggs

ciderpress, Thursday, 12 August 2010 01:46 (fifteen years ago)

for me it's like I can make really good pizza & pretty good tacos but my passion for cooking isn't really represented in either of these foods; I prefer to eat them when they're from a great pizza joint & a great taqueria. (or at my ex-girlfriend's mom's house but that's never going to happen.) so while the ingredient foods like tomatoes and eggs & the stuff-you-make foods like salads & soups seem like big open fields of inspiration to me, tacos and pizza are more like "things I buy," for the most part. hard to get as stoked about something I'm not in the kitchen goin all ballistic about thinkin "I can't wait to serve this to somebody they are gonna say 'underrated a that there is a delicious salad'" or something to that effect.

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Thursday, 12 August 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

that's absolutely how I feel about going to eat at my best friend's - he's the best cook I know, and he's never, ever served me pizza or tacos or anything in that ballpark - great pizza at a restaurant is the earth and eight planets in alignment but home cooking is when I really get to watch food being made, marvel at the process, understand why it can be a joy to create as well as consume

and let me tell you, his fish soup...my god

When I moved out right after high school and was really poor, I used to buy those no-name frozen pizzas at the grocery store for about 69 cents, cook them two at a time, and fold them in half like pizza tacos. Sounds gross (hell, it IS gross), but they were dang tasty.
