thank you!! i had a truly excellent day yesterday in spite of having to go to work and stressing about classes (which start monday)! my coworkers sang to me & gave me flowers, my mom bombarded me via text with baby pictures of myself that she had been saving up for days (she recently became confident using the camera on her phone and is going bananas <3) and i generally felt loved and appreciated in a way that i felt comfortable with. my partner gave me a weighted blanket and i adore it. my dog gave me a cheddar goblin hoodie and i can't wait to wear it all winter. i invited people out for beers and they actually came! i don't even mind getting older and putting this last 12 month period behind me. looking to the future is the only way.
thank you for thinking of me ilx. the last time i had a birthday party i was turning 30 and i had just met the chilx gang. now it is many years later!

thank you folks! ask me anything -- i always cautiously wanted one of those threads and it's my birthday! i may or may not answer your question!

any special food choices for the day?
― pink-haired Marxist (sleeve), Friday, 23 August 2024 14:43 (two years ago)
so far i have eaten an omelette w spinach/gruyere, v refined :) later i am going out to dinner and will probably eat some grilled octopus and a medium-large plate of orechiette w sausage and greens. maybe something else! i haven't decided.

happy birthday LL!
what instruments do you play? and when did you start learning to play music?
― rob, Friday, 23 August 2024 14:49 (two years ago)
depends on who you ask -- i played piano and clarinet as a kid, but did not get very far (nor did I care for the clarinet very much). i started playing drums 11 years ago in June, and have since taught myself how to play two different synths and use a looper. a few years ago i started playing gongs as well.
― Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Friday, 23 August 2024 15:01 (two years ago)
nice! and potentially inspiring (I bounced off a few different instruments as a kid but have wondered about trying again throughout my adult life)
― rob, Friday, 23 August 2024 15:05 (two years ago)
do it! A) no one can stop you and B) it has never been easier to learn something new without dedicated formal instruction
― Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Friday, 23 August 2024 15:07 (two years ago)
aw thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate it. in terms of B) are you talking about youtubes or ?
― rob, Friday, 23 August 2024 15:08 (two years ago)
referring generally to the many media resources at our fingertips, not youtube exclusively. keep your expectations low and the world is your oyster :)

Happy Birthday LL - have a great day, do something fun, and play some drums! I only have one copy of 'our band...,' but can part with it if you're still looking for it - can send it into work with Sher.

Thank you for offering -- I managed to get my hands on a copy and discovered that a lot of the popular wisdom is in there but little more. So that's good to know. Will 100% accept the boots regardless! <3 :)
