Worth starting a thread for Shaun Ryder, Lembit Opik, Nigel Havers, Gillian McKeith, the obligatory model no-one's ever heard of and Linford Christie?

This is just line-up by numbers now, isn't it? Model, associated-with-footballer woman, person off other reality show, one for the kidz, annoying one that no-one actually likes, ex-sports-hero, faded non-Brit whose name rings minor bells with the general population, posh one, cult one, ex-public figure.

― NI, Thursday, 18 November 2010 12:41 (fourteen years ago)
It's funny how these celeb reality shows always end up overturning commonly held ideas about particular public figures. I hated that bit on Tuesday where Nigel said something like "I like peace and quiet". Errrrrrr, you're in a jungle with nine other people, no TV, no Internet, no books, nothing to distract them apart from a daily task or two (which only involves four of them at most) - of course they're going to talk and lark about and sing songs to themselves, just for something to do.

I have failed at watching this. Is there an eviction tonight?
― ailsa, Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:07 (fourteen years ago)
No. Live trial just after 10PM though. It's really not been worth watching because every bleeding trial has gone to Gillian McKeith, and she's balls'ed all of them up.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:10 (fourteen years ago)
It's ridiculous actually, 3 out of the 4 reality shows on at the moment are being spoilt by people being in there who really shouldn't be. Celeb it's McKeith, on Strictly it's Widdy, on X Factor it's Matt/Wanger/Wand.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:13 (fourteen years ago)
You seem to have put an extraneous Matt in there? Wand were invented purely for Simon to wave his cock around at how clever he is at manipulation, so aye, shouldn't be in there. But Matt actually can sing. I don't think he's ruining it as much as Wanger is.
― ailsa, Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:15 (fourteen years ago)
Matt is more on the basis that he could sing anything, however badly, and people would still vote for him.Meanwhile, Gillian has to operate a JCB while stuff drops on her. Except she'll refuse to.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:21 (fourteen years ago)
They should kick Gillian to fuck out. What's the point of her being on this show if she hates bugs/rats/eating crocodile dicks/Australia?
― Lindsey Lohan is the new Extreme Noise Terror (onimo), Sunday, 21 November 2010 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

His reaction was interesting when shown the 'comedy "in-jail"' costume. Basically he was 'aware that his wife would look down on him"...
So, basically, the culture of TV being low-art as compared to proper acting and the stage, etc, is alive and well.

Yes.
Dom, Sean, Linford, Stacey.

― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Wednesday, 24 November 2010 10:55 (fourteen years ago)
Stacey makes me laugh, she's like a bizarre sketch show character.
Sean's not really done anything to mark him out as a winner other than be one of the most popular on arrival. Isn't the bushtucker vote a vote of unpopularity? If that's the case I can't see Linford or Dom winning since they've both managed to be most unpopular male in a vote against Lembit Opik.
― Lindsey Lohan is the new Extreme Noise Terror (onimo), Wednesday, 24 November 2010 11:08 (fourteen years ago)
Isn't the bushtucker vote a vote of unpopularity?
Dunno, maybe it's a plain "would like to see this person do this" for the lols, not necessarily dislike.

What has Aggro done, at all?
― Mark G, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 11:10 (fourteen years ago)
So, the first vote-off is between Sean, Stacey, Gillian, Dom, Sheryl and Lembit.
Except one can 'escape' via that key/tunnel thing.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 11:13 (fourteen years ago)
It's Shaun, not Sean.Would bet on Dom winning the Escape task.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Wednesday, 24 November 2010 11:30 (fourteen years ago)
ach, and I was concentrating on spelling Stacey right.
I'd say crawling through tunnels? Dom's a big bloke. Maybe Sheryl.
― Mark G, Wednesday, 24 November 2010 11:40 (fourteen years ago)
Dom has that drive to succeed though. Lembit also a contender to win at this task as he doesn't want to be the first to be voted off.

Um, no?
In fact, I'm fairly sure it never went away, and was still there from when Gillian McKeith refused to do it.
― Mark G, Tuesday, 30 November 2010 09:32 (fourteen years ago)
Well Gillian sat in the digger, screamed "ah!!! there's a worm!!!" and then hilariously the Aussie ranger bloke calmly said "oh we'll just get rid of that", picked up the worm and threw it out. That's when I realised that the really great thing about I'm A Celebrity is that there is absolutely no pandering whatsoever to celebrity BS.

Dom out. Shaun, Stacey, and Jenny in the final.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 2 December 2010 21:50 (fourteen years ago)
I think they've made Dom look pretty bad with the edits these past few days but he was never going to win anyway - thought he'd have made the last three ahead of Jenny.
― Dork Twisted Fantasy (onimo), Thursday, 2 December 2010 22:17 (fourteen years ago)
I don't think that Dom has come across particularly badly, he seems to be pretty much as how I'd imagined he'd be - a bit sarcastic, a little bit mean. For me, the problem is that (aside from the letter) he still had his "public face" on.OTOH with Jenny, I thought that she'd be all brash and full of self confidence, but actually she seems to be easily knocked into a low mood. She's also very self critical, which again I didn't expect, especially during the 'make snarky zings about Dean Gaffney' task.Stacey and Shaun are opposites really. Positive and negative, respectively, in the way that they deal with the situation.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 2 December 2010 23:38 (fourteen years ago)
From the little I've seen, Dom seemed to have the right attitude (for me), getting stuck in but completely aware of what's going on and how ridiculous it all is. Stacey seems excellent telly, and I am wildly biased towards Shaun because he's been exactly as I expected him to be (grumpy but likeable fish out of water) and he hasn't disappointed. Haven't seen enough of Jenny to form a proper opinion (I've only been dropping in briefly and seem to just keep hitting moments of Stacey TV gold - have I just been lucky or is she just unselfconsciously amusing at all times?). Stacey's going to win though, isn't she? Former winners of the ones I actually watched have been gung-ho likeable dafties - Tuffers, Joe Swash, Kerry-pre-meltdown, Pasquale, Biggins.
― ailsa, Friday, 3 December 2010 09:19 (fourteen years ago)
Stacey is more or less like that all the time. I think she'll win, but Shaun and Jenny are going to be serious contenders for votes. Shaun for being the curmudgeonly but otherwise solid bloke (helped quite a bit by Ant & Dec's friendly Manchester/Newcastle lolz banter). Jenny for just being an actual human being with self doubts and uncertainties rather than the caustic one-liner sarcasm machine that probably everyone was expecting.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 3 December 2010 11:20 (fourteen years ago)
And with Jenny, the contrast between her performing persona and her actual personality were highlighted because she was on Apprentice YF a few days before she arrived in the jungle.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 3 December 2010 11:22 (fourteen years ago)
She cancelled (part of?) a tour to do this - I get a regular mailout from a venue in my home town where she was due to play the night she flew out to Australia, and she cancelled last minute with profuse apologies and a promise she'd be back to honour the tickets at a later date. I suspect she might be tagging on a few more sales to the tour when the dates get rescheduled.
― ailsa, Friday, 3 December 2010 11:26 (fourteen years ago)
Funny how she got all "oh noe, I cannot improvise, I will get no work now"
I can improvise (did a sort of version of "Whose line is it anyway" semi-regularly at a theatre in Bracknell), but doing stand-up with a 'sort-of-prepared' script, nope cant.
― Mark G, Friday, 3 December 2010 11:29 (fourteen years ago)
Two different skills, innit? I saw Jenny Eclair live about 20 years ago, and she was absolutely awful. I've rather warmed to her as she's got older.
― ailsa, Friday, 3 December 2010 11:31 (fourteen years ago)
It is.
I dunno, with the stand-up it was more "find a hive-mind and pander to it" which basically levels the alternative comedy as being the same as the "northern comic" motherinlaw jokes etc, and I do not like that.
At least with improv, it's always switched on.
― Mark G, Friday, 3 December 2010 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 21:32 (fourteen years ago)
years of drgs and alcohol will make staceys look like shauns
― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 21:45 (fourteen years ago)
ffs those Mini Beef Filled Yorkshires look like the kangaroo vulvas that Stacey was eating yesterday.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 21:48 (fourteen years ago)
i think you eat pretty much anything after rice and beans most days.
― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 21:57 (fourteen years ago)
nah think I'll stick with the rice and beans thanks
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:01 (fourteen years ago)
Makes their food look better by comparison? After watching celebs chomp down who-knows-what, some kind of chocolate and raspberry flavour torte that looks like it's been sat on doesn't seem too bad.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:06 (fourteen years ago)
There we go. For those not well versed in spotting a clear outcome days in advance, and/or future search function users, Stacey won.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:22 (fourteen years ago)
Poor shaun!
― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:22 (fourteen years ago)
Now he knows how Bez must feel!
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:23 (fourteen years ago)
Coming second in i'm a celeb's better than getting arrested at euston for beating your wife who stole money from you.Didn't bez win celeb bb?
― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:50 (fourteen years ago)
Yes, in 2005. But I meant in the sense that Shaun was standing around with nothing to do.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:53 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, when they announced stacey winner, he was in a kinda limbo stood there all awkward. Was sweet that stacey gave him a hug and then went back for a real big hug, she's ditty, but quite harmless.Shaun's funny to watch, he's quite uncomfortable with praise and attention (these days anyway).
― not_goodwin, Saturday, 4 December 2010 22:59 (fourteen years ago)
surprised at how placcid and warm shaun turned out to be, always expected him to be a hardfaced tuff. maybe the years have mellowed him but he does seem to be a deep down decent sort. stacey great too, more of a bb type winner in that being a runnerup on x factor barely counts as a 'celebrity', but came across as a genuinely lovely person. practically everyone in camp spoke of her in superhuman terms, as to how nice she was. a great final where both people would have made great winners.
― NI, Saturday, 4 December 2010 23:14 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sure that if there hadn't been cameras, and they'd all just gone into the jungle by accident together, Shaun would have been more the hardfaced tuff.

Yeah, am watching for some light relief after Corrie tram crash. Imagine if Gillian McKeith was your mum!
― ailsa, Monday, 6 December 2010 21:09 (fourteen years ago)
Actually I have a relative who looks a bit like McKeith, except that she's the exact opposite in her reaction to bugs/snakes/etc..

― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Monday, 6 December 2010 21:19 (fourteen years ago)
I'd be more impressed if he could hang onto one for more than 2 years...
― Mark G, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 09:50 (fourteen years ago)
