Display here the movie posters that, instead of making you want to watch a film, make you wish everyone in the film would die a horrible death, like this one:

I guess the 'exploited women' are actually two very well-paid actresses glamourising the exploitation of women so I guess perhaps they can die too

just can't rouse myself to get all that enraged about the poster - doesn't seem smug enough for that

Nie wieder Sex mit der Ex

is this the german title for forgetting sarah marshall? because I love this title. "No more sex with the ex".

'Maennertrip' is certainly better than 'Get Him To The Greek'.

I don't want to kill them but I feel incredibly bad for everyone involved. It's this year's The Room or Snakes on a Plane.

You're talking about "Unstoppable"? Weird. I thought it was pretty straightforward, inoffensive, workmanlike, occasionally bland but mostly serviceable thriller. Not at all like those other movies.

Though Whoopi Goldberg had made a verbal agreement to star in the film in 1993, she attempted to back out. Abramson filed a US$20 million lawsuit against Goldberg, which they settled very quickly. Goldberg agreed to star in the film for $7 million,[2] $2 million more than the originally agreed-upon amount.[6]

blanketly offensive posts (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 November 2010 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

Hey, I have a great idea! Let's put together the ultimate big-budget romcom w/ ALL the actors from ALL the other romcoms & we can lead a massive marketing blitz into a Valentine's Day release. Sounds great, right? Totally sure-fire. Well just wait for the kicker: This movie will actually be titled Valentine's Day. Honestly, how could we lose?

Also, this movie looks so offensive/stupid. "It turns out being gay was really expensive.... so I became a con artist." Awesome logic there, Jim Carrey!

jeevves, Saturday, 27 November 2010 09:18 (fifteen years ago)

All posters that trade off the star power of ONE PERSON and indicate NOTHING AT ALL about the film, e.g.

http://thisdistractedglobe.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/Vanilla%20Sky%20poster.jpg

http://www.dvdinfo.ch/movies/K/KI/kid/the-kid-10.jpg

This last one shits me more than any movie poster on the planet, mainly because (as per the title) it's about a kid and not Bruce fucking Willis.

blanketly offensive posts (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 27 November 2010 20:30 (fifteen years ago)

Also that twattish face he is pulling leads to urges that run dangerously close to the sentiment of the thread title.

dirty man haw (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

really loathe the spate of movies that have really generic, simple, all-embracing titles that lay claim to an entire concept - you just know that the movie is a hollow, pandering shell in which that concept will receive a really un-nuanced, corporate-friendly, nuclear-family-affirming moneyspinning shiteating parade of you-knew-what-was-going-to-happen-and-bought-the-ticket-anyway

blow them all into space. they suck and they think you're stupid. be less stupid.

acoleuthic, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:30 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, somehow. I must ask though - what have you seen lately though that's inspired this little rant?

Davek (davek_00), Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:36 (fourteen years ago)

god so many posters look exactly like that Tomcats one.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:39 (fourteen years ago)

hmmm should I see this movie... oh shit Horatio Sanz AND Jake Busey?!!?!?

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 30 January 2011 23:40 (fourteen years ago)

I don't mean a concept like 'Vertigo' or 'The Conformist' btw, I mean a concept that is a situation, usually with sexual undertones, that is common contemporary parlance and not an age-old, much-nuanced facet of human thinking, hence can be neatly 'summarised'.

the rebound. date night. the hangover (ok I lolled a couple of times, even as my soul escaped my mouth). the back-up plan.

maybe these terms deserve those movies, on second thought

n.b. not seen, just seen loathsome grinning posters

jer.fairall, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 01:51 (fourteen years ago)

Careful, Dr Morbius, I'm in that movie!

It supposedly takes place in Georgetown University in Washington DC, but apparently they wouldn't let the film crew shoot there, so instead they filmed part of it at the U of Maryland where I was a student and pretended it was Georgetown in the movie. One day I was walking across campus and ran into several people with big movie cameras on tripods who stopped anyone from walking across the field if their shirts had an advertisment on them. Mine didn't, so they let me pass. I had no idea what film they were making.

About a year later, the movie was released and a couple of people swore they saw me walking by with my backpack on in one scene. I watched it on VHS but didn't see myself anywhere. Many years later I learned I'm visible only in the widescreen version that was shown in theaters but chopped off of home videos of the era to fill a 4:3 tv screen.

I think a general litmus test is to see how movie posters hold up after eliminating all references to the movie in question. Allow me to demonstrate:

Apparently this movie is in some countries called "Sex List".

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

The whole premise of that movie is so stupid.

I could care less if my prospective new gf had 19 sexual partners before me. I would, however, find it creepy that she's keeping count.....
