infamous abbott: now you can OWN your very own abbott book of art

this is a little chapbook of abbott's illustrations

inspired by, and originally meant to accompany, roxy's miniature family anecdotes*, these are now titled Acontextual Drawings. you lucky insiders will actually know the context but everyone else won't.

details:
- edition of 100, 75 available for purchase
- hand-sewn with blue irish linen thread
- hand-numbered
- covers are printed with archival inks on digital ground painted onto the covers
- light blue-gray vellum covers, light gray text paper
- 8 pages of drawings
- natural white vellum endpapers
- special deluxe edition of this will available sometime in the coming months, but it will be limited to 26 lettered copies, only a handful of which will be available for sale and will be expensive. each one will include a portfolio of standalone prints of the drawing.

I was pretty sure you guys were going to be spending your elderly years heating your house by burning leftover copies of this, so that is wicked cool news for me to hear.

no way man, they are selling these too cheaply tbh

pricing this stuff is really, really tough tbh, lots of stuff to take into account - materials cost, paypal fees, shipping (envelopes + postage), contributor copies, inevitable freebies, damaged/unsellable copies. if we tried to price these at what they are really 'worth', no one would buy them!

oh, and sales taxes, business taxes... replacing press tools (printers etc.)... it goes on and on. we try to price stuff to at least come up even, but it doesn't usually work out that way.

Its best to think of a small press as an expensive hobby rather than a lucrative business...

wait until you guys see the deluxe edition of this book. it won't be ready for a few weeks, but it is going to rule. the contents will be the same as the $5 one, but the covers will be way cooler. and there will be a signed archival print involved.

it is a very special ilxor price! once the books go up in our online store they're gonna be a couple bucks extra.

we picked the WORST time of year to release these books - going to the post office has been a total bitch, and USPS keeps changing the goddamn charges for different categories of parcels/letters. so fucking annoying.

also: ppl who got this book already, please feel free to take some awesome pics and post them - i just haven't had time or daylight to do these books justice.

we haven't set prices yet, since we haven't tried to make any. we haven't even figured out the design of the barry lutz book, yet - so that might be a few months off before it's ready to sell (deluxe editions take forever - about 100x as long as you expect them to). so to announce pricing - even a general range - would be premature, since so much can change at this point.

The deluxe Barry lutz will include a pair of Jordache jeans iirc

- etsy: get on that shit. ppl love buying prints and things off there. BUT you have to really promote it - research blogs that are in line with the kind of art you make, email them, offer them a freebie to write up a post about your stuff or even just a brief mention + link to your store.
- twitter/facebook/blog(s): get links to your etsy store out there to up your place in search results
- or you could try www.bigcartel.com - it's kind of a hosting place for ppl who want to set up stores for their stuff. super easy to use.
- i don't know where you live, but if it's anywhere near a city that hosts one of the twice-yearly renegade craft fairs GET ON THAT SHIT right away. tables are pricey at $400 a pop, but you can make a shit ton back on the prints you sell.

JtM you're in NYC, right? I mean there must be tons of that. I mean if you wanted to you could even do the Punk Rock Flea Market in Philly which is 2h away and probably much cheaper than getting a table in Bklyn?

that being said, and many people in this thread notwithstanding, getting someone to part with $4 or $5, even for something that took you hours and hours of your time, is frustratingly difficult. if i had an answer for you, i wouldn't keep it to myself.

Just ordered both the ZS and Abbott books (regular edition), apparently you can do it without having to have a Paypal account. These were cheaper than I expected, 14,5 Euros for two books and delivery to Finland is not much! I've paid more for a single self-published comic book bought from the local store. Can't wait to read the books!
