One of my favorite snacks in the whole world is american cheese on triscuits. Pretty much the only time I eat american cheese too. Pro tip - if you fold a slice of american cheese in four it makes perfect triscuit size pieces.

Wheat Thins taste about the same as the cardboard box they come in. Triscuits! (Love the rosemary ones.)

Glorified Lolcat (Dan Peterson), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

I am never without a box of Triscuits. Plain, though -- flavored ones are overwrought and msg-laden. Reduced-fat are dry and cardboardy.

Ayo Scott (rip van wanko), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

There you are!

Surm <3 as per usual

I think I'm a Triscuit purist - I've never felt the need to try any of the flavored ones.

ENBB, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, this is so Triscuits it ain't even funny. Those new rye Triscuits with some goat cheese on them = bliss.

Pirates of the Caribbean V: Letters of Marque & Reprisal (Phil D.), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

I eat em with sharp cheddar and jalapenos

Ayo Scott (rip van wanko), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

See that sounds delicious. I did the American cheese thing ever since I was little so it's sort of like comfort food for me. Maybe I need to expand my triscuit topping horizons.

ENBB, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:11 (fourteen years ago)

See but wheat thins already taste good so you don't have to slather them in other stuff to make them edible

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:11 (fourteen years ago)

i love the american cheese thing cuz it goes SO well with the saltiness of the triscuit

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:12 (fourteen years ago)

x-post - I like Triscuits straight too though.

surm otm regarding the am cheese v. saltiness - it creates the perfect balance

ENBB, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:12 (fourteen years ago)

I like that they have 3g fiber per serving (or in my case like 12g)

This is nonsense. Wheat Thins have lots of wheaty, nutty sweetness. More flavor than Triscuits, I think.

I don't know which one to vote for. Also, should have been a Pick Only One, not TS.

i like lucy (surm), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

As a child, I used to get into trouble because I would eat entire boxes of Triscuits in one sitting. They are one of the most perfect crackers ever created; the hint of butter and saltiness of the original ones is one of my favorite tastes, full stop.

Wheat Thins always tasted like diet food to me, like someone took a graham cracker, made it smaller, and replaced all the flavor with a sock.

CAN YOU GULP ANY LOUDER PISS WOMAN (DJP), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

Plain? Wheat thins. The great thing about Triscuits, tho, is they're hardy little things and you can load them with spreads or sliced cucumber and what not and they don't get soggy too fast.

Le mépris vient de la tête, la haine vient du cœur (Michael White), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:32 (fourteen years ago)

ENBB, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

I love triscuits. The plain ones + the rosemary/olive oil flavored one is good too. I think they kind of look like industrial-grade office carpet!

Peter Pepsi (Abbbottt), Friday, 11 February 2011 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

Triskets all the way! I once defended them against saltine crackers (fucking saltines!) on another thread. That I had to do that still strikes me as weird. The black pepper (and olive oil, garlic?) ones are my favorite, and I love the rosemary ones too but lately I'm starting to think they're too rosemary-y.

nickn, Friday, 11 February 2011 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

I am a rosemary friend so they are fine by me.

I hardly ever buy crackers -- even though I loved them as a kid -- so I can't even remember the last time I had a Wheat Thin.

Still, I'm inclined to vote for them over Triscuits. Plain Triscuits were always sort of flavorless, and when I had a flavored one (don't remember which variety) at my dad's house recently, the flavoring powder seemed kind of gross and overpowering.

Wheat Thins, meanwhile: simple, nutty, piquant.

VegemiteGrrl, Friday, 11 February 2011 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

rosemary & olive oil (+ cracked pepper & olive oil) Triscuits are ridiculously overspiced & have a way of overwhelming whatever you top them with. day-glo, in-your-face spiciness works for Doritos because they're specially engineered to PUMP YOU UP, but the humble Triscuit is a grown-up food that ought to reveal its goodness slowly and subtly rather than hijacking your gustatory system like its a fucking Warhead or Altoid.

uncle twikkelingssteurnissen (unregistered), Friday, 11 February 2011 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

imho generic woven wheat crackers are 90% as good as name-brand Triscuits (i.e. good enough for me), but generic wheat thins never seem to measure up to the Nabisco ones.

unregistered OTM re flavored varieties being too strong. Even ordinary flavors like OO+pepper are too rich and overwhelming. The cheesy ones far more so. They make me a little queasy.

I searched the cracker aisle of my supermarket and the only whole wheat ones were Triscuits and Wheat Thins (and their generic equivalents) and some fancy overpriced (Carr's brand) whole wheat rounds. you'd think that cracker people would want to keep up with the craze of proudly labeled whole wheat bread and cereal products, but apparently not.

I like my crackers the same way I like my women-- packed to the gills with transfats and cross-hatched.

oh yeah Ritz has a line of "whole wheat" crackers, but they're only about 15% whole grains so what's the point? I'll stick with Triscuits for now -- at least they aren't shifty about these things.

just do what i do-- pound some overcooked brown rice or amaranth into the ritz cracker. sure, the shape gets compromised a little, but hey, life is largely comprised of small compromises ime anyhow

is that "overcooked" as in "congealed and pulpy" or "overcooked" as in "burned to a crisp"? seems risky and unpleasant either way unless you are very very high.

like, congee zone

dell (del), Tuesday, 14 June 2011 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

and you just SLAM it into those Ritz crackers

dell (del), Tuesday, 14 June 2011 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

and then you chase it with a leary biscuit

I dunno, dude, nutrition isn't supposed to be that labor intensive, and congee is like concrete if you spatter it all over the walls and forget to wipe it up before it dries. maybe I'm better off with a simple Kashi IV drip or Cream of Wheat spooned into empty pill capsules and swallowed with a mouthful of vitamin water. being a health nut isn't worth it if you have to spend all your time worrying about what you put down your throat.

these things are weird. they taste more like ketchup than beans, and the bean stuff is kinda powdery. they're not actually woven — I guess it's impossible to weave dehydrated rice paste? — but there's a fake weave pattern on the surface of the cracker to satisfy brand loyalists. they're more brittle and crumbly than wheat Triscuits, and they don't break apart "with the grain", so they're not as fun to nibble on. I think I like them, but I'm too disoriented to sort out my feelings right now.

(the world is ending and I'm having a very serious debate with myself about Triscuit spinoffs)

generic Markers Basket Triscuits are just as good as the real thing, btw!

Wheat Thins' buffalo flavor is pretty great.

http://www.theonion.com/articles/nabisco-snack-physicists-develop-highly-unstable-q,34421/

OAK RIDGE, TN—Snack physicists at Nabisco Labs announced Friday the first successful synthesis of a Quadriscuit cracker, a salty treat long postulated by the theoretical models of food scientists but never confirmed by experiment until now. “At the moment, this hyperwafer can only exist for six milliseconds in a precisely calibrated field of magnetic energy, positrons, roasted garlic, and beta particles,” lab chief Dr. Paul Ellison told reporters at a press conference outside Nabisco’s $200 million seven-whole-grain accelerator. “However, by bombarding the cracker with neutrons until it reaches critical levels of zestiness and crunchability, we believe we can one day develop a chemically stable and edible Quadriscuit. Needless to say, such an irresistibly tasty breakthrough could upend everything we thought we knew about snacking.” Ellison added that the snack’s existence cannot be explained by classical Fig Newtonian physics.
