use your age as of 01/09/11 so we can better compare w/ 3 years ago. if you happen to be outside of 13-62, just post your age I guess? that seemed like the most reasonable group of 50.

34, first post aged 30. Don't recall lurking here though I must've done, and for ages probably. I don't even recall what first brought me to ILX either, other than a vague sense of googling favourite old records and continually ending up here.

However, I do remember once printing out a particularly interesting thread to read on the tube home, and being so impressed that I left it strategically poised on the seat for someone to be mindblown on the return journey. I loitered at Wimbledon to see what happened. What happened was that the cleaner came on and yoink - straight into the rubbish bag.

I was already acquainted online with Kate the Saint/Masonic Boom going back to at least 2000 from her portraits of rockstars and slash fiction - so maybe it was through her.

so let's assume ilx is getting older even though there's not solid evidence for that yet:

reasons?
a. average daily internet user in 2000 was younger than average daily internet user in 2010? I don't have any data to go off but that seems like it'd be true.
b. as long as you have a core group of posters, unless there's a very steady influx of younger posters the site average will inevitably rise
c. ILM is a smaller part of the site now and music obsessives skew young? (is that even true? is that something that was more true 20 years ago?) is there a reason why someone who joins this site would be likely to be young?

i still get a fair bit of ~the world~ in in between ilx & studying but sometimes when i'm on too much it really gets to me and i get to feeling like one day i will look back at my youth and be overcome w/ regret. also prob a lot of college students are just on other lame forums & some of them are shy or not that interested in ~the world~

same graph w/ 3 added to the 2008 numbers, interesting how closely some individual peaks/troughs match.

this doesn't 100% imply that ilx has a constant group of users, could also just mean that when people leave they're quite likely to be replaced w/ similar aged users and not teenagers. but I do think you can look at this and think that there's a decent amount of stability in the group of people here. I feel like 31 year olds should consider themselves keepers of the torch.
