I plan on wearing long strapless dresses all summer long. Well, when not at work. That wouldn't really be appropriate here.

I think "proper" can also mean right vs wrong in a given situation. Maybe that's a slightly British usage, though.

I think summer shoes are tricky.

My standard go to shoe for skirts is a ballet flat because most of my skirst are simple a-line above the knee jobs and I think flats work with those. I get tripped up by sandals because a lot of them are just really awful.

If I worked for The Man, I'd wear long pants in hot weather. Freelancing from home, I stick with shorts from May through September, except for the odd occasion where I need to be a little more presentable.

fair enough -- summer is tough. i might end up taking some pants to the tailor to make into shorts -- cutoffs are fine but I'd like to be a little more polished this go 'round.

i wear shorts all summer

i like boxy pleated shorts in neutral colors with bright polo shirts or cotton t shirts i like linen pants cuffed high worn with soft cotton oxfords i never wear socks. i like thin cashmere crew necks in black & navy worn with white tennis shorts when it gets cold by the water at night, i like polished chestnut cordovan oxfords worn with slim-fitting canvas trousers or striped bob cousy los in simple light colors. i like vintage sunglasses and loose-fitting knits and church's shoes in girls makeup shadings. i like thin leather belts with baggy khaki shorts worn high on the waist paired with pastel gingham dress shirts. i like tailored men's dress shirts with bold stripes worn under summerweight wool suits, buckshot brogues and no socks. i like hunter green raincoats when it starts to get cloudy and bleached canvas duffels stuffed with 70s beach towels.

Not a huge fan of sandals just because the city streets can be so gross in the summer, but otherwise honestly sandals are lovely...for other people. I hate this gladiator shit so I haven't bought sandals in a few years because EVERYTHING HAS BEEN LIKE THAT.

I usually go buy pants at J. Crew or banana republic to bring them home and cut them off. Shorts are rarely the length so I sometime will get them hemmed or leave hem frayed. Are those formal shorts?

I'm lucky enough to be allowed to wear shorts and sandals to work during the summer if I want so I may just live in these things. I'm super looking forward to summer this year for some reason, too.

I don't like j.crew's pants as pants or banana republic's, but I like their fit as shorts, so I buy them knowing I will cut them off. I even try them on and imagine them as shorts. I would be paying the same price if I bought shorts at Barneys or a boutique.

I've got a pair of caramel-colored linen J. Crew shorts that I love (no img available). Not dressy, would be too unstructured if they were pants.

my feet are so not ready for summer & sandals. i'll need a few hours for soaking, scraping, and exfoliating to make them less offensive

General rule is that I don't wear shorts unless 67degree minimum.

i like summer because the weight of the clothes is much nicer, and i like bare legs and bright colors. i think sometimes men are too cheap/uncaring and forget how heavy and airless their winter clothes can get in the summer, and thats why they dont like it. ppl are much more willing to dress for the cold than the heat ime. well maybe not women.

Summer makes me really need to LIKE my actual clothes, as stand-alone pieces, because layering is out of the question most days. You know in the fall, this piece or that piece can be basic and boring because I'm going to add a sweater, a jacket, a scarf, whatever. But summer clothes need to have character all by themselves. Makes "statement pieces" way more important.

Shorts-length: I cut-off mid knee. No point in wearing them if they go any lower. Def will not wear them if they go higher. But truth said, I really don't pay attention to this shit when I put them on in the morning.

Oh here's a summer thing - I only wear red polish on my toes. Every once in a while I'll switch it up but regret it. Red just looks better.

I love summer clothes, you pull on one dress and some jewelry and you're DONE. No searching for the tights that match that thing or that one sweater, no not that one, it's the wrong length/cut/style...just one dress, over the head, shake out your hair, and that's it. Love it.

It just makes me need nicer dresses, is all.

According to Psychology Today (not so in-depth as you'd think), red is the color women wear when fertile. It was basically a Pro-Tip for the other 50% of the nation that you should always hit on a woman when wearing red.

Ooh ooh I thought of another one! Summer is basic the only time I will wear blue: navy and that light oxford-blue. No other blue in my entire wardrobe the rest of the year. So I guess I'm looking forward to blue. Just a little.

Actually bought navy things for the first time last year. I got a chevron print navy and white stripe skirt and some tops to go with. I prob wore that skirt more than anything last year.

You can wear anything with navy! It's like black! I love it with red, kelly green, primary colors, but anything, srsly.

xp Those tartan check shirts are Laurel-bait. I once showed up at a friends' house for dinner and the host and I were both wearing short-sleeved tartan check cotton shirts and straight black shorts (I think I biked there).

Basically we were dressed alike, although all of his stuff was nicer than all of mine, partly because I think the retail prices for B Sherman and F Perry are totally ridic. My friends are a very fashionable couple, though, and always have the good stuff.

I usually wear brown shoes/belt/bag with navy, but wdik.

At the end of last summer I bought WHITE and SEERSUCKER suits on sale. Gotta get them altered so I can bust them out as soon as spring really and truly arrives.

I am such a huge fan of those shirts on guys -- the plaids are smart and in "not your dad's plaid shirt" colors and the cut is always narrow/slim, so you don't get the tent effect of any other men's plaid shirt that is not kinda high-fashion. The fit is not very forgiving, though, so if none of the sizes works for you, you might want to look into simple tailoring of some kind.

In the summer, I mostly wear jeans with boots and hanes white v necks. When I wear shorts it's usually on sundays.

My favorite pair of shorts are by Hyden Yoo. But most of my friends snicker at me when I wear them. I like shorter shorts and don't understand why they are so frowned upon on guys.

I've always wanted to wear flip flops, but a childhood accident left me without my big toe on one feet. I tried to wear them between the next two little toes, but it doesn't work.

Nah, it definitely wouldn't. I'd imagine closed shoes would balance your foot out a little better, too. I know a guy who lost a toe as a kid and it led to some nasty joint wear in his 60s from years of unconsciously balancing.

For the record, Magnum PI was the shit, NBA players used to look 10 feet tall, and everybody got laid in the era of short shorts on dudes.

shoes are always a problem, mostly because one foot is a size smaller. I mostly wear cowboy boots or topsiders though.

I was four and at my grandmother's farm. My aunt was mowing the lawn and the back of my grandmother's house is one long porch. I don't remember it well, but as my aunt was coming around the corner I jumped off the back porch and slide underneath the mower. My foot was cut off and mangled very badly. and hung by a piece of skin. My big toe was lost. I have a massive scar that wraps around the back of my foot and curls under it. I only remember the drive to the hospital, and that they had wrapped my foot in towels which were drenched with blood. I thought I was in trouble because there was blood on my grandmother's car seats.
