i am currently a tmobile customer but my contract is almost up & i need to transfer to smart phone 4 business reasons / because my ipod died.

would like to get something that will transport music / get my email

whats a reasonably priced phone that wont fall apart quickly / will allow for a reasonably priced plan, relative to the cost of other plans? im poor & broke but i dont want to have to deal w/ shit that falls apart easily either

Serious answer: go to Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U and see which one offers you the best deal. Don't get talked into the first deal the first shop offers you. But first, speak to TMobile and see if you get an upgrade based on your current deal. Go armed with the info you get from that website Billy linked to, because they'll probably better it, even if just by giving you a cashback deal (I got £50 for my old PAYG which Virgin offered to buy back from me online for a fiver).

You can get an HTC Wildfire from around £15 per month depending on how many minutes/texts/internets you want.

doesn't the service also depend on where you live?

AT&T is ropey in the loop and Southside but OK on the North side in my limited experience. $49 for iPhone 3GS plus contract seems like an OK deal and its still a decent phone even if it is a bit old.

xp: yeah they've totally put the price on that in the basement, at this point it makes little sense NOT to get one if you don't have one and are even slightly interested in the iPhone (although I still maintain that the 4 is the phone I wanted from them in the beginning and if I was doing it over I'd likely have some flavor of Android phone)

hey UK people, I'm looking for a smartphone that would reasonably double up as a general computer use modem, and I'm kind of wondering if this is reasonable. I know that e.g. T-Mobile's 'unlimited' broadband has a fair usage policy of 1gb which renders it pretty useless and I've heard that some phones/providers are more difficult to modem-ise than others, so does anyone have any recommendations?

i assume it's possible if you already have the phone you want. If you don't, don't expect low carrier-subsidized phone prices unless you sign up for the 2-year jail sentence, or pay full price for your new phone.

I'd consider this (US only, i think) if the phone didn't cost $278. Still, only $20/month for voice & data is nice. They route your calls over wi-fi when available, and falls back on Sprint's CDMA network for voice otherwise.

Thus far i've been going the cheap dumbphone + iPod touch route, but it would be nice to carry around only one device.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my smart phone and getting a dumb phone. If I can successfully make that jump, my next step would be to get rid of my mobile phone altogether.

Is this the right place to ask for a recommendation? My trusty iPhone4 is on its last legs and I need an upgrade. I heard the Nokia 920 is supposed to be good but I'm looking for something that has plenty of storage space for music, an easy-to-use music interface (hate iTunes), durability, and good to use with FB and Twitter etc, particularly in 3/4G areas. Also I ternd to use my phone for recording and music stuff, so that's worth bearing in mind.

Any recommendations regarding carriers in the US, good deals being offered now, anything? I am entering the world of the smartphone. Thinking about getting the iphone 5s instead of a 6.

The power banks are pretty cheap and come in many assorted sizes and capacities (also a wide range of quality - some are pieces of crap). They're not a bad solution, if you don't mind carrying one around.

Anker makes decent stuff and you can usually find a deal
