ILx Meet-up/FAP/god knows what -- Boston, special Terrastock edition!

And after all that Oceania stuff I've been posting, YAY USA! So I'm looking well in advance here, but we can keep bumping up this thread as we need to.

To run it all down again -- Terrastock in Boston runs from Oct. 11 to the 13th. A number of folks are coming there specifically for that, others from out of town on general visits, others live there, etc. Here is where we can plot.

I've already talked with Dan Perry about specifically trying for something on the night of the 10th. This is the day before Terrastock begins, and while there's a low-key semi-welcome show that night at the Middle East featuring Cul de Sac, personally I'm more up for a great dinner with good folks. :-) Personally I'd like to aim for an early meal followed by having drink somewhere into the wee hours, but all suggestions entertained! I'll be in town myself on the 10th very early but can't check into the hotel until 4 pm.

After that, whatever happens happens -- the Friday and Saturday evenings of Terrastock are scheduled to end on or around 9:45 pm, presumably for club stuff in the venue later that evening. I figure anything on those evenings shouldn't be so specifically planned, but hey, all suggestions welcome!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 01:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be in Boston for about 5 days at some stretch over October, possibly around Terrastock weekend. Um, so I'll see if I can come.

lyra (lyra), Monday, 26 August 2002 01:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Very cool! :-) Hope that is the weekend indeed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

shows end at 9.45?! ick. i am so upset about this axis thing.

i will definitely not be able to make the thurs. meetup, as i'm planning to get to boston on friday (i have classes friday morning). i'm in favor of a meetup on fri or sat, though.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 26 August 2002 02:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I should be travelling over to Terrastock from sunny Ireland (Summer has finally arrived about 2 months late). Plans are still being formulated though.

Winkelmann, Monday, 26 August 2002 06:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be in boston from approx thu10-mon14, something like that

gareth (gareth), Monday, 26 August 2002 08:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Whatever is good for me. I would prefer a Friday or Saturday meet-up due to the fact that I tend to enjoy the beer a little too much and would not be able to get myself up for work on Friday. Plus I would have to drive home. Friday or Saturday I can crash at a friends.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 26 August 2002 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

In my case, one reason why I'm suggesting at least an initial Thursday get-together is that I have no idea what Terrastock-specific hangouts and shenanigans will occur the rest of the weekend. Saturday night there's allegedly going to be a further show-after-the-show at the Middle East, but I will like be banded-out by then. Again, we can always have more than one get-together should we be so inclined. ;-)

Oh yes, further THORTS -- it has been a Terrastock tradition of sorts among my circle to find a really good Spanish tapas place for at least one dinner and eat and drink the place to the ground. So any and all recommendations for such a place in Boston would be very welcome. I've also heard there's a Brazilian section of town, so that makes me happy too.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I know of a few but none in the cambridge area. The only tapas place I used to frequent was Tasca is Brighton. Very good. The Sangria was excellent.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I know of a few but none in the cambridge area.???? What about Dali? (There's also Tapeo on Newbury St.)

It's kind of out of the way, but we should try to go to Addis Red Sea on Tremont for some kick-ass Ethiopian food.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 August 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Kick-ass Ethiopian food = a reason to travel over hill and dale to get to it. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, Dali. I've eaten there once. I couldn't remember the name.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 26 August 2002 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be heading over the lake and upstate NY to get to Boston. I'll be heading in late Wednesday or early Thursday myself. Whose up for a tour of Sam Adams brewery? One of the few American brews that doesnt taste like diluted piss.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 26 August 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

There's alot of things going on that week. Ghost and 6 Organs Of Admittence is playing right down the street at Hampshire College the previous Thursday. And all day Saturday there's going to be a "Stone For" show (which is an annual event here in Amherst) but will take place at the Sunburn Hand Of the Man Loft in Charlestown. But I will be up for a non music activity. I'll be in town Friday-Sunday.

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 26 August 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I would really like to go, but I have a feeling I will not have the money. Maybe I should become a roadie?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 26 August 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Be a roadie for Windy and Carl! They'll smuggle you along. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I just want to wear the bandana.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 26 August 2002 20:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck YEAH. You also get to say 'one, two' into a mike.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 August 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

can you guys hold stand in a group and hold up a flag at some point? i'm not up for the socializing, i just want to see what y'all look like. :-D

your null fame, Tuesday, 27 August 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Revive revive revive! Lyra might be there! Gareth and Alan will be there! Etc. Nobody lose it this time. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 September 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

If my college gives me a dorm room (after two weeks of sleeping on couches), then I am COMING! If I don't get a room, I will be leaving, and then I will start "FAP DC" harhar.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 7 September 2002 01:47 (twenty-three years ago)

i propose another FAP on friday, saturday or sunday that weekend. this 'thursday' thing is for non-geeta mentalists

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 7 September 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

So we do more than one FAP -- that's a good thing. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 7 September 2002 06:02 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be there, too...

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 7 September 2002 06:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned it all depends on where we go and how much these pints cost ;-).

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 7 September 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I just found out my mother-in-law is going to be in town that weekend. Eep.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 7 September 2002 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Whereas we havent set as a locale, and we require one at a nomusical locale.
And whereas we need to uncover the link between rock and roll and drugs, a brewery located near a resurant/tavern of fine reput should do as a starting research location.
Therefor I motion that we tour the Sam Adams Brewery for the Boston FAP followed by (damm I forgot the resturants name) for food.
(any addmendment involving Ethopian or Indian food will be considered friendly. [Hell any admendment I'd be up for])
I dont have a schedule for this yet so time and date is also open for interpretation.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 7 September 2002 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Addis Red Sea! You guys should go there, it's like my favorite restaurant in boston!

dave k, Sunday, 8 September 2002 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

friday night after terrastock! 10.30pm, say. FAP!! sez the anti-thursday militia

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 8 September 2002 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i like the idea of a friday, if only because all the london ones are always midweek, and i think fridays would be more fun. but, as i am on holiday, i don't really mind

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 8 September 2002 08:09 (twenty-three years ago)

i might be getting the wrong impression - but with the hardkore indie fest thing, the more than one gathering seems likely. how about a more *ahem* sedate tapas thing on the thursday (/flinches) and BEEEER FRENZY on the friday. also, being from jolly old england, what sort of hours do the bars in Boston keep? are there all nighters?

I'm looking forward to "my life is a new england ruin"

Alan (Alan), Monday, 9 September 2002 07:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i couldn't sleep last night due to suddenly realising that i really am moving on saturday, so i stayed up for ages reading the time out boston guide --> it seems there are plenty of bars open until 1am-2am but none after that.

(but i'm sure someone else will have much more a clue)

toby (tsg20), Monday, 9 September 2002 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Why am I looking up flights??

Graham (graham), Monday, 9 September 2002 09:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Boston generally closes at 2am. I feel sorry for the promoters there, who pay a great deal of money for top DJ talent, only to have to say "Uh, Mr. Oakenfold, it is 1:50, please choose the last record." And this happens with DJs I actually like as well!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 9 September 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I have another damn wedding to go to on the 13th so I am most up for the friday date. As mentioned before, I don't indulge on weeknights.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 9 September 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I think my cousin is going to be singing with the Lothars for some reason. You should all say hi and scare him.

Kris (aqueduct), Monday, 9 September 2002 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh. I can do that, Kris, who is he?

Alan -- tapas on Thursday night sounds GREBT. I propose we do that and then, as mentioned, whatever the hell more insane stuff comes to mind the following day(s).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 September 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

He'd be the Indian guy singing with the Lothars :) His name's Ramesh. Geeta knows who he is; maybe she can point him out if he's there.

Kris (aqueduct), Monday, 9 September 2002 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

he's singing? cool. i thought he told me he was playing backup theremin or something, but that was months ago.

friday night: i'm thinking of heading over to central square around 10-ish to get some late-night eats and drinks at the middle east and then prob. continuing the drinking at everyone's favorite communist bar, the people's republik, or the field or the cellar or something. or maybe all three. (they're all within a couple blocks of central sq.) kenmore square (where axis is, basically) fucking sucks these days. RIP deli haus.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Tapas on Thursday should probably happen at either Tasca, Dali or Tapeo. I know that Dali doesn't do reservations and a wait for there can be HOURS, plus it's completely out of the way for everyone regardless of where you're staying (really, it's only convenient to me). I've never eaten at Tasca, but I know it's on Commonwealth heading towards Boston College (anyone remember the cross street?). Tapeo is the most central but might also have wait issues (I also don't know if they do reservations; it's owned by the same people as Dali). Tapeo is also around the corner from everyone's favorite yuppie dive, The Pour House (yay $3 beers!).

Brian knows The People's Republik well! I luuuuuuuuuuurve that place. Maybe we could all take over the Plough and Stars (if we all fit, HAH). I'm a big booster for The Field as well. If people are desperate for cheese, we could also crash Phoenix Landing HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, Tasca is on Washington/Commonwealth Ave. As was my old apartment. Directly across from Tasca to be exact. On a Thursday night you maybe ok for Tasca without reservations. But seeing as the students are back you may want to call ahead. I'm certain they take them.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

He'd be the Indian guy singing with the Lothars :)

Astonishing!

These proposed plans seem to be coming together well. Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

have we nailed down any specifics yet? this event occurs over my break, so I need to figure out where I am staying, and for how long...

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 15 September 2002 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Specifics as such:

Thursday 10th = tapas and great joy

Friday the 11th = something else and great joy

The rest of the weekend = something fun for great justice

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 September 2002 21:56 (twenty-three years ago)

the music is fri., sat., sun., correct?
so thursday is just another fun meetup, whereas the other days will have schedules related to the time at which the music ends?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 15 September 2002 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup. On Fri and Sat the music will be over around 9:45 to 10, allowing time for later evening tomfoolery.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 16 September 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

tomfoolery, eh? That is the last thing I want to think about right now, as I downed almost half a bottle of Ouzo on Friday night, which is the new apex of shitty drunken evenings in my personal life. I will have recovered by October, I hope!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 16 September 2002 02:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Thursday I'm up for, provided it's accessible by T, because I refuse to drive in the city...is there a time yet?

Friday night I may or may not be up for depending on other plans, and if anyone is going for Indian food, please post. I'm desperate for some real Indian food, which is sadly hard to find in Seattle. (This is hopefully where some Seattle ILXer posts & tells me about a great place that I've been missing.)

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 07:21 (twenty-three years ago)

WOOHOO! you know I'll be haranganganguing you all for the usual tourist advice.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 07:29 (twenty-three years ago)

my only boston tourism advice:
  1. Mike's for cannollis (essential !!!!)
  2. Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum
  3. the T

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm definitely on for all of this; on the other hand i'm really tempted to catch shellac at the middle east on the friday night. anyone else? (or are they rubbish live?)

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 22 September 2002 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

By all accounts they're great live -- if you can't make the Friday get-together (and that's an understandable reason!) try for the Thursday, or keep an ear out if something Saturdayish suggests itself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

well, i'm sure they'll have finished by midnight so i can always join you all after that (and of course i'll be around at terrastock during the day, too, and at the thursday thing).

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

btw, can anyone recommend somewhere reasonably cheap to stay

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

There are probably hostels and the like around, what's your price range?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

not particularly high, just wondering where other people have stayed before...

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

did meet someone who has everything shellac have ever released and he raved abt their live performances.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I strongly recommend Tapeo for Thursday night tapas. How many people are interested in that? (I'd like to try to make a reservation next week.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 22 September 2002 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Memememe. And everyone else. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

hmph 'everyone'

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 22 September 2002 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

*weeps*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm on for thursday night tapas.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 22 September 2002 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

just bumping this up the new answers; also i am definitely going to see shellac on the friday night so i'm v much in favour of making friday night's plans central square based.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 27 September 2002 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, I'm going to try making an initial reservation for 10. This is probably an optimistic number, but hey. (So far, we've got Ned, me, Joei and Toby.) If more people want in, let me know so I can bump up the reservation if necessary.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Mike Daddino makes 5.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 September 2002 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Count me in. Do you know yet what time this is likely to be?

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 27 September 2002 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Thursday -> me also.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 27 September 2002 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i arrive in boston on the 10th, but i'm not sure what time yet. should be available i think (i'm there until the morning of tue 15th)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 27 September 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Right now, I'm thinking 7 PM or 8 PM. I was thinking 8 if only to accomidate people coming in that afternoon/early evening.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I like to accommodate people who are coming.

Dan Perry Dan Perrys Himself (nabisco), Friday, 27 September 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

So, I'm going out there, staying w/old friends, and though I'm not gonna be at T-stalk itself, will be in town and more than happy to join in the festivities. (I know at least a couple of you already so recognition will be easy.) Anyone who wants to email me meetup details etc. is welcome to do so at the address below.

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 27 September 2002 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Tapeo is on Newbury St? Citysearch seems to claim that there's one there not too far from the Copley T stop.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 28 September 2002 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the one. It's on Newbury somewhere between Dartmouth and Fairfield (ie, Dan can't remember which side of Exeter Tapeo is on).

Sir Matos, are you going to be here on Thursday or will you be missing the tapas extravaganza?

(BTW, do I really sound like that? That's so... dirty... I LOVE IT!)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 September 2002 11:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I love that the streets are so conviently alphabetized around there. Why do other cities not do this, too???

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 29 September 2002 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Minneapolis does this.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 29 September 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

And then the DC grid is east-west streets alphabetized, north-south streets by numbers.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 29 September 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

which is why Minneapolis RULES! (Dan, we GOTTA talk!) I think I can try to make it in for Tapas....

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 29 September 2002 21:48 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, my plans are probably gonna be ultra-last-minute (very broke at moment and can't get tix/plans set quite yet). but keep this thread updated and I'll try and make it in on time for all.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 29 September 2002 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It is rock. :-) Hurrah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 September 2002 21:54 (twenty-three years ago)

*cough* friday or saturday fap also for those who are missing thurs *cough*

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 29 September 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

There will be a separate Geetastock, fret not. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 September 2002 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

yea, i'm up for a fri/sat one too, prob thurs also, depends on arrival time

gareth (gareth), Monday, 30 September 2002 06:56 (twenty-three years ago)

also once again friday night in central square = my pref as i am seeing shellac at the middle east that eve (does no-one else want to see shellac?!) (i'm also free sat eve, too).

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 September 2002 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be there for quite a while, so count me in on the thursday tapas and the friday BOOZE. (current plans actually in town 8-11th then driving around state, but likely to be back in Boston on occassion)

Alan (Alan), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

My plans are getting screwed up by the minute, I may not be able to make it at all. I have a wedding to go to on the 13th and may be heading down on Saturday. I may still try the Thursday or Friday as well.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 30 September 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

also, where is the FAP thread for NY? It turns out I won't be in NY much on this trip. I can do this fri, tho it is wedding early next morning, and friday 18th at the end of the trip (i leave next day, but it's an evening flight i think)

Alan (Alan), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I was seriously considering hopping on a plane and coming to this, but then my rent is a lot higher this year so I can't. I'll be there in January though.

Graham (graham), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday night: i'm thinking of heading over to central square around 10-ish to get some late-night eats and drinks at the middle east and then prob. continuing the drinking at everyone's favorite communist bar, the people's republik, or the field or the cellar or something. or maybe all three. (they're all within a couple blocks of central sq.) kenmore square (where axis is, basically) fucking sucks these days. RIP deli haus.

how about we make this a plan?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I strongly vote for either The Field or People's Republik. (Assuming I can go out that night.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

All sounds good. Just hold the fort until the Terrastock attendees stumble over. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to attempt to make a Thurs reservation for 12 people at 8 PM at Tapeo. Sound good to everyone?

Folks who are looking for something to do during the day really ought to check out The Freedom Trail. The church Joei and I sing in is on it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay to all this. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm keen on the field/people's republik, as i've been wanting to go to both for ages but can never persuade anyone here to go more than about 2 mins out of harvard sq...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Toby, you've just discovered the HARVARD CURSE. The only solution is to become a lone ranger (or befriend freshmen with fake ids).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

what the fuck, man? central is ONE STOP AWAY from harvard!! it takes like 5 min!!

harvard students = LaYmOrZ (present company excepted obv, etc etc)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i heard they shut down the grille! what are the freshmen with fake ids going to do??!

dave k, Monday, 30 September 2002 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I did the FAP Boston thing at the Republik earlier this year... that's where Dan and I had the encounter with the grinning waving-fist Joker man. For that reason alone, that place is my recommendation for y'all.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

This kid i knew at Hahvahd back-in-the-day would drink cheap beer thru FUNNELS and would then be forced to wear a pink tutu and a tiara and dance about the square - no wonder they were all so scared of drinking

it's educational!!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Good-bye Crimson Grille/Good-bye Bow & Arrow/HELLO CHARLIE'S KITCHEN!!!

John Harvard's has become much more popular with the college kids, as well.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

charlie's kitchen serves hoegaarden + it is cheaper there than in london = i like charlie's kitchen.

yeah i'm always like "central's 10 mins walk away you fules + it's full of cool places unlike here" but to no avail. i will be solo drinking inside of a week at this rate.

also also does everyone in the us drink really slowly and not get drunk, or is it just these harvard fules?? cos we were drinking the other day from 4:30pm until 2am and i didn't get drunk at all - like we were in a bar from 10pm and i don't think anyone had more than 3 drinks in the following 4 hrs (+ they were all drinking martinis which take precisely no time at all to drink!). this place makes me feel like even more of an alcoholic than i do in london...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Toby: YOU ARE HANGING OUT WITH THE WRONG HARVARD PEOPLE. Look for the singers (choral or a capella); many of them will get shit-faced at the drop of a hat. (From what I hear, Collegium is where most of the partiers are these days.)

College kids who drink martinis are trying to look cool, not get drunk (unless they are me circa 1994, haha).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

back at mit we drank 'em "extra dry" - straight out of the gin bottle (for efficiency's sake obv)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:40 (twenty-three years ago)

double cheeseburger specials + jalapeno poppers + jukebox = charlie's is amazing! what was the name of that really upscale bar on massave that all the well-dressed grad students went to drink their putrid martinis? man, i hated that place.

dave k, Monday, 30 September 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

uh - lemme guess, dave - "the good life"? the place with the upholstered walls? i used to avoid that place like the plague.

but next door...ain't nothin' like the cantab lounge in the morning.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, that was it - near the cantab lounge - wow, even thinking of places i hated makes me nostalgic

dave k, Monday, 30 September 2002 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

hey dave let's talk about how great deli-haus was

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

The Good Life in the financial district is about 500 bazillion times cooler than the one on Mass Ave in Cambridge.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah i went to that one once.

but aw man, i miss the 'haus. sigh. the "authentic" velvet elvis sandwiches!! the surly punk waitresses!! the guinness floats!!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

grr you are all so "it was better back in the day"!

guinness floats, though. mmm.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i liked it before the tea party

mark s (mark s), Monday, 30 September 2002 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I was seriously considering hopping on a plane and coming to this, but then my rent is a lot higher this year so I can't. I'll be there in January though.

What's in January? I guess this must be my week (or lifetime, depending on your perspective) to be completely in the dark on things.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh can I drop by on Thursday???

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course you can. You have to prove to the Canadian contingent that I am real and not a bastard.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

But Ned, you are a bastard.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:55 (twenty-three years ago)

It was actually my ordained mission to call you a bastard, but Kim jumped the gun.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:02 (twenty-three years ago)

But Ned, you are a bastard.

*cries* My parents have lied to me all this time!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I just made a reservation for 12 people at Tapeo for 7:30 PM on Thursday. My confirmed roll call (ie, people who said they would definitely be there as opposed to attempting to be there) is me, Joei, Ned, Mike, Toby, J.Lu, Lyra and Mr Noodles the Infinite Cow. Strong possibles are Gareth, Alan, Chris V, Mickey Matos and Aaron. Is anyone else planning on coming on Thursday? (Tapeo doesn't do reservations, per se; they do priority lists. Changing the number shouldn't be a problem.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 3 October 2002 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanna go to terrastock :(

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 3 October 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, friends Chris Barrus and Chelsea Starr might (I will emphasize might!) be along as well. There's a very off chance that I might be able to see what Landing and Windy and Carl are up to, but I'm guessing they're going to be at the welcome show on Thursday chatting with the other fine folks there.

Jel, it's easy! Get on the plane and fly over. Money, what is that?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 October 2002 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn artists and their mercurial schedules! Aside from the Barrus-monster and Chelsea, how many extra people are we looking potentially at, here?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 3 October 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

A whole shed-load, by the sound of it. :-(

I wish I could go.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 3 October 2002 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Just to say hi! I'm in Queens right now! Just got in, feeling deydrated. Tapeo, next Thursday, see you there!

I have bought a v cheap digital camera thing, so when I get the time I can upload some photos (all v low quality, but what do you expect for 35 quid!)

Heeeee! This is so funny, posting from my friends front room. I always have expected you US ILXoRs weren't real, but I guess it really is a World Wide Web. Aw.

I will start another thread some time for me and Gareth to do some sort of half-arsed journal thing.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 3 October 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Potentially, an extra six! But I really doubt they'll be able to make it -- I'll try and get a hold of them over the next couple of days to be sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 October 2002 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, I'll go to Tapeo at 7:30 on Thursday. [scribbles into to-do list] now to get to Boston....

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 4 October 2002 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Heard back from Landing, they'll still be en route and send their regrets, so that leaves Windy and Carl, who I will call today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 October 2002 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish I could go.

I wish you could come with us!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 4 October 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Very much so! :-) :-) We must all send Good Thoughts to Nicole on the night (or maybe just call her up!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 October 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that Thursday is planned, let's try and stabilize Friday. Looks like the idea is either the Field or the People's Republik, but with a slight preference to the latter. Friday's night show has to end at 9:45 PM, though I figure anyone who gets tired of the line-up on the night (or just tired in general) could head to one location or the other as desired. Anyone want to nail things down further at this point, including full directions from the venue etc.?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 October 2002 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

alan you must called it "it's this half-arsed journal thing"

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 6 October 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

just to get friday back on the agenda. my vote goes to the people's republic, but only cos it has a cooler name (i've never been to either). i'll be around after the shellac show (so somewhere between eleven and midnight?) and quite poss before, too - it's looking like i might have to be in harvard for much of the afternoon, so it may not be worth me coming down to terrastock at all on friday.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 7 October 2002 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

If I can butt in, I said i might be coming over from Ireland for t'stock, well its happened andI'm now in NJ at my Pop's place. I'm going to boston on Thursday but will probably just hang with the old friend of mine who lives there on Thursday night. More later.

tigerclawskank, Monday, 7 October 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Try and make it to the Friday thing at least. Or look for types like myself at the show! ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 October 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

don't have time to read thread (metered access in dc hostel). synopsis please?

thursday. when? where?
friday. when? where?
any other day? when? where?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 7 October 2002 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Well my friend's liable to be working during the daytime on friday but I'll probably turn up when it starts (its earyish isn't it?). So should I do something like sit there reading my copy of Mick Farren's Give The Anarchist A Cigarette for hilarious dorne rock sitcom type identification purposes..... and then turn up at the venue and everybody has a copy of Give The Anarchist A Cigarette

tigerclawskank, Monday, 7 October 2002 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth: thursday info is below. friday is as yet undecided but it looks likely to be either the field or the people's republik 9prob the latter?), both of which are on mass ave in central sq, cambridge. ppl will def be there by 11pm i guess + quite poss much earlier??

other days have not been discussed; i'm free all weekend (terrastock excepted) so wd be up for something sat pm if anyone else is...

...made a reservation for 12 people at Tapeo for 7:30 PM on Thursday. It's on Newbury somewhere between Dartmouth and Fairfield (ie, Dan can't remember which side of Exeter Tapeo is on).

toby (tsg20), Monday, 7 October 2002 23:45 (twenty-three years ago)

quite poss much earlier??

Tstock itself ends at 9:45 and I'd head out to there at that time (Ghost is closing the show that night and I refuse to miss them). So there should be people a-plenty by 11.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

All 15 golden minutes......

lets hope not this time.

tigerclawskank, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

btw - is the arrangement now that we collect tickets from the axis box office? i rather lost track of the emails from terrastock hq...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes -- if you ordered on line, bring a print out of the e-mail confirmation, a photo ID and the card you used to buy the tickets with.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks ned. is the people's republik a definite decision for friday, then?

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Seems like! There might be more discussion of it on Thursday as well, but hell, I like the name and there don't seem to be major objections. ;-) I have no idea when I'll be at a computer next after I fly out on Wednesday night, so I'm sure someone will keep things updated.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

(FYI: Joei will probably not be at People's Repbulik because she is a sensitive opera singer and doesn't want her voice all messed up by cigarette smoke.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

*weeps* Then we'll have to do a pub crawl where she can join in on the way or something. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, you and Joei should move to California.

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Then we'll have to do a pub crawl where she can join in on the way or something.

Inherent problems with this idea:

- Joei hates pub crawls.
- All places suitable to be included in a pub crawl would be smoky no-go zones.

Dan, you and Joei should move to California.

She would LOVE that. (Actually, so would I.)

Did I mention my brother's going to be in town on Saturday?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah well -- but yes, California. No smoky bars for a start. ;-)

And your brother! The man and the myth Natural Law himself! Tell him to keep Saturday night open. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

seaboard.pitas.com

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

so, any thoughts about saturday?

also kenmore sq is indeed rub, as i found out last night. though not quite as bad as coolidge corner, where i ended up sitting in mcdonalds for an hour waiting for the doors to open at a gig, cos all the coffeeshops had closed at 9. wtf?

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:33 (twenty-three years ago)

so, let me get this straight, theres a thur, fri and sat meetup?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Potentially.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I def can't make Friday. I might make saturday -- but from fri morning i'm out and about in a car staying in cheapass motels in the country, so best make the most of thursday. My guts are shrieking for booze NOW! Anyone... (right now I'm in a hostel near the ICA/haynes T stop)

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGH Alan, I have to go home. And I'm six blocks away from you down Boylston!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

is that the HI alan? i'm in there from tomorrow night onwards (the one on hemenway street)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes it is! Very nice. Good showers, good cooking facilities. See you tomorrow anyway!

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Let me nip this one in the bud! Saturday was suggested but we are specifically planning nothing for that evening in advance, since something could instead suggest itself (and overplanning can cause more problems than anything else). So we'll play it by ear.

Dan -- talked to Windy and Carl and they can't make Thursday night -- they'll be in Albany -- but they might be up for whatever happens Friday. So at this point unless you hear anything more from anyone that should be the roster for Tapeo tomorrow night.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

also - does anyone (ned?) know anything about the bands playing on friday afternoon? there are lectures that i should be going to, but if anyone particularly great is playing i'll give them a miss...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Full lineup of bands is here -- for Friday afternoon specifically:

TIME STAGE BAND
12:00 - 12:30 1 nonloc (RI)
12:35 - 1:20 2 Pat Orchard (UK)
1:25 - 2:10 1 ST37 (TX)
2:15 - 3:00 2 Stone Breath (MD)
3:05 - 3:50 2 The Iditarod (RI)
3:55 - 4:40 1 Hopewell (NY)

So none of the total heavy hitters outside of Stone Breath, I'd say. I'm most interested in SB, ST37 and maybe Hopewell, though I could be persuaded to leave early for dinner then (after Hopewell is an hour long break).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, I'm flying out of here in about 2 1/2 hours and I don't know when I'll have net access next, so I'll see who I see tomorrow, and look forward to it! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 October 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah let's set up an exact time and location for this Friday meet thing. How about 10.30pm at People's Republik? I'll duct-tape "ILX" to my face or something so y'all can recognize me.

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 10 October 2002 03:19 (twenty-three years ago)

10:30 is fine by me modulo shellac.

tonight: apparently tapeo is 266 newbury st between fairfield + gloucester. it's presumably booked in your name, dan?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, it's under Dan Perry, although it isn't so much a "reservation" as much as it is "when we get there, they'll pull tables aside for us and make smaller parties wait".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pissed off, I cannot make it at all this weekend. I must attend a wedding on the vineyard this weekend and I have to go to class this evening. Damn it all. I hope you all have a great time and know that I will be there in spirit. Enjoy! Take some nice pics.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, that sucks. Although, thank you for reminding me to get a dispocam for the SHENANIGANS.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 October 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

alang, i just arrived in boston. i'm in room 303, setting off in a bit

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 10 October 2002 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I am leaving work now. I must kill an hour... TIME FOR BOOOOOOOOOOOZE.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 October 2002 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks to Dan & Ned for organizing tonight- I had a great time with everyone, despite being an incoherent mumbling sleepy mess.

Good night everyone!

lyra (lyra), Friday, 11 October 2002 02:24 (twenty-three years ago)

it was a great night. i fear for my head tomorrow:( looking forward to tomorrrow night though...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Did Dan and Ned lez it up?

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 October 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate you all! I'm so mad I'm missing this.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 October 2002 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

And where are all the filthy details?

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 October 2002 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly, no one lezzed up anything, at least not while Joei and I were there. I have no idea what happened after we went home.

I had fun. I also discovered that guerrilla filth humor doesn't translate very well to real life, but hey.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

it was all cool... i left before midnight though, so i can't report on the end of the evening. what exactly were those shots we got given?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

don't know but i thought they were quite nice. amazingly, no hangover (i get a hangover very easily, i can be comnpletely sober and still have a hangover the next day sometimes)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i have no hangover either but my brain isn't quite working properly. think i'm just tired.

u+k: dan's cooking video!! in fact i can feel a new thread coming on...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 11 October 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

hey Matos, hope you're enjoying Boston
ya missed a classic moment last night at DB & Dara's Sorted party
DB was spinning all this early breakbeat-piano-house stuff and, couldn't resist,
I wrote a note and handed it to him, went:

"I gotta say this for my mate Matos
who isn't even here:
'It would be oh so nice
to be with you
to be with you'..."

he smiled, gave a nod of acknowledgement & within 2 tracks he played it! place went mad - Classic!

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 11 October 2002 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

seems shellac are on at 11, so i shd be at the people's republik at 10:30 (if the t works ok). see you all there (except terrastock ppl who i'll see in a couple of hours or so).

toby (tsg20), Friday, 11 October 2002 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

where is peoples republik exactly? 10.30? ok. ned i stood outside the khyber in philly the other day, and ghost were soundchecking...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

people's republik is 880 mass ave between central and harvard; get the t to central and walk up towards harvard and it's on yr left. shouldn't be a problem to find.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 11 October 2002 20:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, it's pretty easy; should be a five-to-seven minute walk.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 October 2002 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i just had some thai food, and nows i feel about unwell:( should be ok if i have a lie down. i shall be there...i shall persevere...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 22:26 (twenty-three years ago)

so what happened to geeta/michaelangelo/whoever else we were expecting?!

anyway it was nice to see you all again; also shellac were basically the best thing ever...

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 12 October 2002 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

what happened to me is that I was visiting my friends (including the one I'm staying with) for the first time in years, literally. tomorrow(SAT) will be a diff. story. Promise I'll be at the Sat nite shindig--where is it? when? how do I get there? PLEASE let me know....

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 12 October 2002 05:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Sci-Fi Paul, you are a mensch and a half! Can't wait for you and Gareth to meet on the 18th....

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 12 October 2002 05:35 (twenty-three years ago)

didn't even get to NYC til 11.30pm because of traffic/weather, but managed to find the ILX posse standing on the sidewalk in central square. we went for drinks at the good life (eek) w/ really, really slow service. good times, though.

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 12 October 2002 06:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I failed to find anyone - at least partially 'cos I went to a different pub so no surprise there.

Anyway today I have a Parliament/Funkadelic tshirt and a brown corduroy jacket

Ghost rocked hard - maybe they are trying to muscle in on the lucrative jap nopise market.

tigerclawskank, Saturday, 12 October 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i had a look in a couple of bars after shellac to see if ppl were around, but the good life didn't occur to me. meep. i don't think i'd've been able to hear anything, though, so it was probably for the best.

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 12 October 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Michelangelo/Toby: Tonight's meet-up location is Lucia at 9 PM on Hannover St in the North End. I may not be able to go, though; my brother's flight has been delayed massively and he's not coming into town until around 9 PM.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

ROCK! thanks, Dan!

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 12 October 2002 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

should be able to make that. toby, are you going to this 2manydjs thing tomorrow night?

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 12 October 2002 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth - in case you don't check the other thread:

hey gareth - v sorry but afraid i'm not going to make 2manydjs as i really feel i shd get some value out of the $70 i spent on a terrastock ticket (haven't really been there very much so far). but if yr around in cambridge on monday we can meet up (i have some lectures but am free most of the day) although i'm going to see sleater kinney in the evening...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 13 October 2002 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

not sure i'm going either. my credit card has packed up. i have $30 to last me a week unless i get this sorted out

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 13 October 2002 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

There's always man-ho-ing...

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 13 October 2002 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

It's always a good approach. Yay to everyone for a fun weekend. Must sleep soon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 02:11 (twenty-three years ago)

A few Boston FAP photos:

Whoa... OK... who's who?

Here are my guesses:

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 18 October 2002 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh wait, is that Chelsea on the right of the first one??? Did she dye her hair blonde?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 18 October 2002 01:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth looks totally scared of you all in that first picture.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 18 October 2002 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

what were you all doing at the Hilton??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 18 October 2002 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned (on top)

Astounding!

Oh wait, is that Chelsea on the right of the first one??? Did she dye her hair blonde?

No, that's Zac aka Mr. Noodles' girlfriend, whose name utterly escapes me. Chels didn't make the trip out.

Gareth looks totally scared of you all in that first picture.

We had already made it clear he would be the first to be sacrificed.

what were you all doing at the Hilton??

Avoiding you, of course. (Actual answer -- Marche. What it is I will let Dan explain.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, first photo in order:

Dan, me looming over Joei, Alan Trewatha looking over J. Lu, Mr. Noodles holding onto his drink, Gareth filled with fear, the inimitable Mr. Matos, a barely visible Mike Daddino, Toby, Lyra and Mr. Noodles' s.o.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:07 (twenty-three years ago)

And yes, second photo is Mike in the clear. A Marche staffer took the first photo, so that's everyone who was there that night, I'm pretty sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:08 (twenty-three years ago)

That one with my back to it makes me look like a whale!

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:26 (twenty-three years ago)

And thats an OJ and Bannana smoothie in my hands.
I didnt realize I was blocking J. Lu so much, sorry.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool!

And ha ha, I nearly went to that Marche Movenpick when I was in Boston.

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 18 October 2002 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i look terrible

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 October 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I didnt realize I was blocking J. Lu so much, sorry.

Not a problem. :^}

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 18 October 2002 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

and wait, toby looks far more scared than i do...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 October 2002 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Marche Movenpick is an excellent do-it-yourself style restaurant where they set up food stations all over this warehouse space and you wander from place to place picking what you want and getting a piece of paper stamped. At the end of the evening, they tally up everything you've ordered and you pay at the door. Mmmmm....

Sounds like Katz's Deli.

Its also an excellent way to screw you over when you spend almost 20 bucks for a crepe, a beer and a smoothie.

(That aspect of it does suck, yes.)

Great moments of failed humor: Ned is showing New Zealand/Australia pictures to all of us sitting around a table at Marche and comes to a picture of a distant peninsula covered by trees with a small sandy beach around it's tip. Ned is giving details about the peninsula, but I'm distracted because the overall shape reminds me of something. When I figure out what it is, I start to snicker.

Ned pauses to take a breath and I just blurt out, "Do you realize that that looks just like a dick?

Ned looks at me and says, "Um, yes, anyway this picture is..." I sit back and quietly pretend that I didn't just say that for about 15 seconds, then giggle again because the new picture is on the same page as the dick picture.

Clearly, I felt letting you be hoist on your own petard was the best option, my dear young man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

But it DID look like a dick!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

If that's a representation of your own dick, I am afeared.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, first off why would you be taking pictures of my dick? Secondly, how did it get to AUSTRALIA???

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

New Zealand even.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

New name for the Otago Peninsula: Dan Perry's Rock Wang.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Rock? Shirley, you jest.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Go for the trip to Dan Perry's Rock Wang. It may be rocky but its worth the rough ride.

"Will you be taking the scenic route or do you want to go straight to the tip?"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 October 2002 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Let us not forget the foaming waters around the headland.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 October 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I love the headland. Ooh baby, yeah.
