Emma, Friday, 30 August 2002 07:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Urgh! Who are you and what have you done with Emma?!?!?! DEAR GOD you've given me the FEAR!

I got up late and have had no breakfast unless idly munching on a sugar free polo counts.

"You suck!"
"Hey, you suck."

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 August 2002 07:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Weetabix and a cup of lemon tea.

MarkH, Friday, 30 August 2002 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 1 September 2002 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

A bowl of ‘Little Man’ Malt Crunchies with milk. ‘Little Man’ Malt Crunchies are an ultra-cheap substitute for Shreddies, sold by Leith’s new ultra-cheap supermarket, Lidl (advt). As far as I know they are not made out of actual little men, for that would be cannibalism, at least in my case.

Plus a lot of tea, served in the only surviving mug from my college room, circa 1908.

Rex, Sunday, 1 September 2002 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 2 September 2002 07:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Proper bed-ridden ill, or ill enough to feel really manky, but still trying to drag yourself about ill? Whichever, bad luck, hope you feel better soon.

Anna, Monday, 2 September 2002 07:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 2 September 2002 08:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hot buttered toast is JUST WRONG. Cold toast mmmm.

Like Anna, I had a Muller light yogurt only mine was strawberry flavour and tea only mine was regular ole PG.

Ha ha Ronan's mum still doesn't love him

She sometimes says I should eat something, that means she loves me a little doesn't it? Doesn't it?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 September 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends if the 'something' is a nutritious, balanced meal or a big pile of ground glass.

Emma, Monday, 2 September 2002 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

or crusty mayonnaise

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 2 September 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

My non violent resistance at work led to me being moved from the deli to the till after refusing to mop a plug socket which was crumbled to pieces and had wires sticking out everywhere. She says "have a bit of toast or something" so I guess that's the same as glass as far as you're concerned.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 September 2002 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan? Have you lost your appetite because you were out all weekend?

Anna, Monday, 2 September 2002 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

No I was a good boy this weekend and I missed Green Velvet to get a lift to sort of civilised 30th birthday party instead of evil mangler people my age I don't know rave in quarry.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 September 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Battered fish and fried rice. I didn't sleep till about 10. Usually french toast is about all I can handle.

Andrew Thames, Monday, 2 September 2002 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Honey Puffs. In my efforts to be more of a "morning person" I have decided to always sing about my breakfast, and Honey Puffs have a good jingle to sing.

"Fly, let's fly away!
Honey bees are flyin' today!
If you like honey, then you'll love Honey Puffs!
Honey Puffs are made to stay fresh, stay good, stay fresh all the time!
Keep lookin' for the funny honey bees!
Honey Puffs are yours and mine!
THANK YOU, HONEY PUFFS!"

rainy, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

my porridge song needs a bit of work, so far it just goes:
"don't spill the porridge on the floor!"

rainy, Tuesday, 3 September 2002 01:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i never got how at the end of that ad, the kids thank the honey puffs. but the honey puffs didn't make the honey puffs, the honey bees did!

ledge, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

i sometimes find myself craving egg mcmuffins, which is for me the only reason to go into mcdonald's (yet i hardly ever do, for political reasons, health reasons, and the general grossness of the chain). lucky for me, i never seem to pass by a mcdonald's when they're actually serving breakfast.

get bent, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

Make your own eggmcmuffin!

Ms Misery, Friday, 29 June 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

And now I'm heading out for a latte.

A bowl of Fruit & Fibre. Don't know why I bought it - it never agrees with me. Actually I do: it was on offer and I am a sucker.

Tea, toast, and really nicely made eggs, thanks to the advice of a cartoon cat.

en i see kay, Friday, 21 September 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, I plan on taking that advice this weekend.

I had some sort of cereal I got at Trader Joe's, it's not that good.

Jordan, Friday, 21 September 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

Vegemite on toast.

luna, Friday, 21 September 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

Trader Joe's cereal is pretty sketch in my experience.

Maria, Saturday, 22 September 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

Glass of orange juice and some instant coffee that tasted like mud. I keep meaning to get back into the habit of eating cereal for breakfast but I can't face eating at that time in the morning.

snoball, Saturday, 22 September 2007 11:45 (eighteen years ago)

cold soba noodles with soy sauce + mirin, shredded carrots, red peppers, bonito flakes

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Want!

Quorn with mustard.

libcrypt, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

some cranberry-orange pita bread with butter

i totally endorse the soba noodles + green tea breakfast/lunch but i woke up too early (aagh) to even contemplate it today. really quite easy to make though!

Free range egg, Lincolnshire sausage and smoked bacon on a white roll, mit KETCHUP, from farmer's market. If you are a trader on the market, this YUM costs £1.

suzy, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

what if i am not a 'trader on the market'?

rrrobyn, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

50p.

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

(i jest: i'd pay a goodly amount for a roll like that.)

grimly fiendish, Saturday, 22 September 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Not sure - I actually work on said market for a few hours every weekend, get paid PLUS all veg I care to eat for a week, the aforementioned breakfast rolls and mate's rates on the other stalls. BONUS: eccentric old people who use RP, Keira and her posse and hedge-fund WAGS.

suzy, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

markets are great places! i haven't been to the market in weeks. i don't think there are awesome rolls like that at the market in my part of town but i know there are merguez sausages! and amazing ice cream! and croissant amandes!

rrrobyn, Saturday, 22 September 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

roxymuzak, Saturday, 22 September 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

breakfast was well worth trudging out in the rain for -- my local of choice is a BIT of a walk but the coffee is great and the bagel i ordered today was actually unexpectedly awesome.

get bent, Saturday, 22 September 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

beautiful poached eggs, hollandaise sauce from the lovely lovely cafe bar round the corner that currently makes weekends of study and/or work bearable.

ljubljana, Saturday, 22 September 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

Eggie bread made with Scottish Plain bread. Stet told me this is the best bread for making eggie and I kind of get his point - it has a dense texture that really soaks it up. Also had a two dollops of ketchup.

Madchen, Sunday, 23 September 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

plain bread is the devil's ... er, bread.

me? a banana. not enough for a growing boy, as my mum used to say. that might be why i'm a short-arsed moke.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

(and the plain-and-egg-powered stet is seven foot eight.)

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

scrambled eggs, french toast, grits, and orange juice, transforming halfway through into a lunch of pepperoni pizza, french fries, and a grilled cheese sandwich (lol college).

bernard snowy, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

Scottish Plain - the TALL one in the wax wrapper that is good for making one-slice bacon sandwiches?

Islington Sainsbury's used to do similar but sadly NAE MAIR.

suzy, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

that's the one. crusty, chewy, pale white shite of the kind that should be flung from tenement windows into the fucking clyde.

i never thought i'd hear myself say this, but islington sainsbury's obviously has good sense.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

finished off last night's Dippin' Strips pizza.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's quite nice - much closer to a home-baked loaf than anything else in the shops (including the stuff from the in-store bakery). Makes good, chewy toast I have discovered this afternoon.

Madchen, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

Islington Sainsbury's was for ages the closest supermarket to King's Cross; lots of Scots seem to settle no further away than that first mile out of the station. Scottish friend who lived in one of the huge punk squats in the early '80s conformed to this stereotype and made me buy some, whereupon I was hooked. My bacon sandwiches are always toasted so I figured out a long time ago that SP was chewy lovely goodness.

When in the Scots Exile section I did not look for square sausage and potato cakes.

suzy, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

today i had two pieces of bread with cheese spread on them and a cup of coffee. less than thrilling, really.

Maria, Sunday, 23 September 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

cheese on toast

blueski, Sunday, 23 September 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

Same as yesterday, so I will not complain.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 23 September 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)

i went to brunch and had breakfast burrito w/ eggs, chorizo, black beans, salsa, etc. mmmmm. also bloody mary. that's going to make my afternoon of studying difficult.

tehresa, Sunday, 23 September 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

i'm now making up for the lack of breakfast excitement by making a big pot of cauliflower and broccoli soup. which i might have for breakfast tomorrow.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 23 September 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

half of a chicken salad on brown bread with russian dressing and some popcorn with truffle salt.

lauren, Sunday, 23 September 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

toasted plain bread also rocks for club sandwiches

stet, Sunday, 23 September 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

Okay I read that as 'to make a club sandwich, I put rocks in it'

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 23 September 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

... which is pretty much exactly how club sandwich a la stet would taste.

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 23 September 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

Speaking of rocks, they've started putting those weird preservatives in plain bread now. Instead of going healthily blue mouldy, it goes that scary orange powerdy way that Warburtons goes.

stet, Sunday, 23 September 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

I think my opinions on plain bread were all covered on the Scottish Things And People I Like thread (which I can't be arsed searching for, but may have been my finest contribution to ILX).

aldo, Monday, 24 September 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

necessity (to go shopping) is the mother of invention: greek yogurt mixed with vanilla extract, stevia, and some crushed-up handfuls of dried rambutan. i don't care for the rambutan on its own, but served this way it takes on an almost fruity pebbles-like quality.
